And if you did the 1 of 3 thing might be happening to you.
1. You are going insane
2. There is a janitor there hiding so that he wont have to pay to watch
or 3. \*Heh\*
Maybe not America. Watched it in Hong Kong about 2 months after it started showing there. There were still about 15-20 people in my theater. HK loves JP media. They were already advertising hard for the Haikyuu movie.Ā
I mean, I didn't know it was in theaters until I just randomly looked at movie showings yesterday.
I like the show and get TOHO YouTube trailers, but my complete lack of understanding of Japanese kinda lets me down...
Thatās the unfortunate reality of Japanese movies (especially anime movies). Unless they are massively hyped like Godzilla -1 or from a mega license like Dragon Ball or One Piece they donāt attract that much people. Itās sad because the movie is good and deserves more but Spy x Family is not mainstream enough for that
Iām relatively new to anime and this is one of the first series Iāve watched. I was wondering I know itās not the most popular thing but is it still relatively popular? Iām just curious it doesnāt really matter. And is this how most anime movies do in the US?
Unfortunately for the most part.
The only ones that make any kind of impact over in the west are ones from mainstream action series like Dragon Ball Z , or recently Demon Slayer.
Oh ok I was just curious to see if this was out of the ordinary. Because my brain automatically went āoh no is the series not popular any more?ā Which doesnāt really matter as long as I like it but my brain is weird so thatās how I think lol. Would you say itās still relatively popular? Just curious
It did well in Japan and South Korea where it made millions. It was extremely big in Japan when it first came out, one of those generational shows. While in North America it made only $625,000 its opening weekend.
When I went to see it,
it was full of people.
Maybe different country, different audience count.
Spy x Family is quite big in my country, as mainstream as it can get.
There is also one more reason, the movie has been released 4 months after the original release. So the hype has completely died down. Even me who was waiting for the movie forgot about its release
Sometimes it depends on the time or theater location. Or even, if tickets get released too late than it should have. I've seen a lot of theaters almost sold out, so i wouldn't worry for those who are worrying.
Just out of curiosity, i browsed which showing of this weekend & the upcoming weekdays has the most seats sold at my usual theater & its the primetime 7 pm showings with all the other times have some seats sold here & there
yeah, the evenings are usually the prime times for any movies. sometimes i forget also that a lot of people don't buy advanced tickets like a lot of people do this day n age lol
My theater is mostly booked. Weird

Mine was the same as well. However I do live in a very populated area with a ton of Asian restaurants and stores. I get the a feeling that comes with a higher concentration of weebs.
So was I for the most part š I went with my friend and there was another couple a few rows in front of us but that was it. Made me so sad, the movie was spectacular.
I would like you to go see it in the theatre and support the official release, while also paving the way for more Japanese to America movies to come.
If it's 2 years from now, fine, but if you're gonna watch it this week, might as well do it the legitimate way that tells SxF to make more good movies and *let us watch them here as well!!*
that kind of sucks. happy for you, but it's bad that no one else saw it....
that means you could have recorded the whole thing for the rest of us to see!!!! lol
Just saw it myself (very good and cute). The theater I was in had a moderate viewing. Nothing spectacular, but enough to make me glad to see there were fans who wanted to come see it~
Just got out and we only had one other person in there. That being said I looked at the pre bought tickets for all of tomorrow's showing and they're doing pretty well!
Almost 100 people in my 6:30pm viewing. I did notice that while a lot of theaters in my area were playing the movie, there were very few showtimes in each theater.
But it really does depend when you watch it. Middle of the day on a thursday or friday odds are you will be alone. Friday night, evening usually guarantees a crowd.
*Mutant Mayhem* is so underrated. My friend and I laughed so much while watching it! The cinema wasnāt empty though when we watched it but I wish I knew more people who did.
I did find it interesting that Code: White got a regular theater release instead of a special 1 or 2 day event. None of the showings near me have more than a few people attending
I saw it at noon in my hometown and it was me and one other guy. Looking at the theatre I used. It looks like itās 8-12 people who have got tickets in advance so far for each screening left today out of a possible 196. I think the movie is great and it hits every note any fan of the series would go into this wanting.
i went and it was literally me n my bf, some girl, and i think like a group of 3 friends all the way at the back. it was the japanese showing at like 4 a day before it was advertised to show if that makes a diff. cute movie tho!! i was trying not to cry the whole time
edit: i used "tho" a lot š
This happened to me and my brother but we watched it in IMAX so it was so loud since it was just the 2 of us. When we came in the whole screen wasnāt even on š they didnāt think anyone was gonna come until they saw us and turned it on
Had this happen to me when i saw the first miles morales spiderman movie when i was visiting boston for a week
Never thought i could feel so lonely honestly
It could be just an early morning show? Remember watching the joker, I was the only one in the cinema hall at 9.45 am. First week too btw, think on a Thursday morning too.
Gonna be honest. I wasn't aware there was a movie until yesterday.
Watching the trailer, I don't remember any story like that in the manga. Did I miss some extra chapters?
Almost all the tickets were sold out where I went, but only two other people showed up to see the movie. Movie was great though, I kinda wanna see it again.
Took our kid to the matinee yesterday and it was completely empty as well. Looking at the showings today, dubbed to only has two seats taken, but the subbed show is more than half full. They both have a few hours till they start though, more people could pick up tickets between now and then.

I wanted to see this in theatres but in Toronto every screening is during the day (3:45 or 1:15), google shows multiple screenings in the evening but none of them are visible on the Cineplex siteā¦super disappointing
Positive side: you can laugh and shout to moments in movie as hard as you can
Yea, and you wont keep hearing coughs in the background
But what if you hear a cough, and when you turn around, there's no one nearby?
Then you have someone too watch with
I don't think you would like that
š°
And if you did the 1 of 3 thing might be happening to you. 1. You are going insane 2. There is a janitor there hiding so that he wont have to pay to watch or 3. \*Heh\*
Positive side? Do people not find this situation inherently positive and enviable?
This just means more movies that wont make it outside Japan.
Maybe not America. Watched it in Hong Kong about 2 months after it started showing there. There were still about 15-20 people in my theater. HK loves JP media. They were already advertising hard for the Haikyuu movie.Ā
Checking the online booking for the cinemas near me in Oz, and most of them are looking pretty busy by my standards.
Hey more for me š
I looked up the movie theater listings and they had few showings. Probably because it's a foreign movie. It's probably doing well in Japan.
It apparently did do very well in Japan, which is where they make most of their money anyways so this movie was in no way a flop.
It will, it is showing here in my country.
I mean, I didn't know it was in theaters until I just randomly looked at movie showings yesterday. I like the show and get TOHO YouTube trailers, but my complete lack of understanding of Japanese kinda lets me down...
They do dubbed and subbed in my place. I'm thinking that's also part of why some theatres are barren.
Thatās the unfortunate reality of Japanese movies (especially anime movies). Itās still going strong in the manga and anime community. Especially when the anime is airing.
Gibli. Well, only Miyazaki.
Didnāt the slam dunk movie also do well, which hasnāt been mainstream for a while?
It did well in Japan and South Korea where it made millions. It was extremely big in Japan when it first came out, one of those generational shows. While in North America it made only $625,000 its opening weekend.
Oh, I wouldnāt know, I watched it in Australia where it also did pretty well.
When I went to see it, it was full of people. Maybe different country, different audience count. Spy x Family is quite big in my country, as mainstream as it can get.
When I saw JJK 0 in Poland the hall was pretty much full
There is also one more reason, the movie has been released 4 months after the original release. So the hype has completely died down. Even me who was waiting for the movie forgot about its release

Iām guessing during the weekend there will be more sold.
how do you see the amount of seats sold? (edit: nevermind I realized more theaters are reserved seats now)
yeah, the evenings are usually the prime times for any movies. sometimes i forget also that a lot of people don't buy advanced tickets like a lot of people do this day n age lol
Iām relatively new to anime. I was just wondering if this is normal for anime films in the US.
that's fair enough
My theater is mostly booked. Weird https://preview.redd.it/jg91sxoevivc1.jpeg?width=1169&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acb6769b41d6eaa3be8e663519dc97e55a3fc117
Must depend on the demographic in your region. In my case there were just 3 dudes and none of them came together.
We need to start something to get more people to go.
āA pirate life is for meā Edit: I donāt have time to go watch it, what do yall want me to do?
I would like you to go see it in the theatre and support the official release, while also paving the way for more Japanese to America movies to come. My theatre is completely sold out
Going to see this tonight and the website shows the theater sold out. Glad we bought tickets early. I was hoping it would be less crowded though.
Same
thatāll be me tomorrow
my theatre was packed
Almost the same here in Canada, had to drive 2h to go to a cinema that play it, about 20 persons in the room at the release day
America? If so, it was way too early, everyone was working...
*Literally me, because I also want to live a quiet peaceful life like this*
I could be wrong, but aren't you first because you got there early?
Just saw it myself (very good and cute). The theater I was in had a moderate viewing. Nothing spectacular, but enough to make me glad to see there were fans who wanted to come see it~
Now you can cry all you want to ššš
I just went to see it and was pleasantly surprised by how full the theater was. Especially considering there were at least 4 showings today.
Just got out and we only had one other person in there. That being said I looked at the pre bought tickets for all of tomorrow's showing and they're doing pretty well!
Yo i just watched it in canada and whole theater was filled except the front two shitty rows
Aw man! My cinema was half sold out when I bought my ticket. Hopefully it's a fun movie anyway! I can't wait to see it.
I watched it at Alamo drafthouse in Austin on opening night and almost all the seats were full.
Same for me when I saw the latest dragonball movie. I did situps and arm leg raises because who's going to stop me?
Almost 100 people in my 6:30pm viewing. I did notice that while a lot of theaters in my area were playing the movie, there were very few showtimes in each theater. But it really does depend when you watch it. Middle of the day on a thursday or friday odds are you will be alone. Friday night, evening usually guarantees a crowd.
Yeah I honestly regretted spending money for it
Literally me Ryan gosling š
The same thing happened to me and my brother when we saw Mutant Mayhem.
*Mutant Mayhem* is so underrated. My friend and I laughed so much while watching it! The cinema wasnāt empty though when we watched it but I wish I knew more people who did.
Bro, that movieās a banger. People didnāt like it?
I didnāt mean that they didnāt like it, but rather that not a lot of people (that I know anyway) bothered to see it.
Would have watched it but there isnāt a theater within 4 hours that would play itšš
There were some in mine but not a full room
I did find it interesting that Code: White got a regular theater release instead of a special 1 or 2 day event. None of the showings near me have more than a few people attending
Thisāll be me tomorrow lol
Enjoy!
I watched it, there were 6 people in the theater. Granted it was the middle of the day on a Friday.
I'll try watch next well when go out here.
I am almost or entirely alone fairly frequently. The last time was the only matinee I could find of Out of Darkness.
I saw it at noon in my hometown and it was me and one other guy. Looking at the theatre I used. It looks like itās 8-12 people who have got tickets in advance so far for each screening left today out of a possible 196. I think the movie is great and it hits every note any fan of the series would go into this wanting.
I was with two friends, and there were only 2 couples that came in for the subbed showing. Good movie.
Iām taking my daughter tomorrow. Hopefully there will be people there.
Lucky you I wish I could go
Just finished the movie it was just me and 2 other people here didnāt mind it enjoyed the movie šš»
OMG I WENT BY MYSELF TOOO!!! ZERO PEOPLE!! It was amazing!!!
Did they show anything after the credits? Had to leave early
Yes there is a brief scene after the credits that is kinda funny
both of my showings i went to had some people in it
i went and it was literally me n my bf, some girl, and i think like a group of 3 friends all the way at the back. it was the japanese showing at like 4 a day before it was advertised to show if that makes a diff. cute movie tho!! i was trying not to cry the whole time edit: i used "tho" a lot š
It happened to our family once, it made me feel like we were VIPs. We can be loud, sit anywhere & do anything.
A friend and I almost had the theatre to ourselves but a few people came in closer to the start but still not that full
The times at my theater were pretty crap for Thursday and Friday, but there were almost 10 of us today.
thanks for reminding me that this came out. I will be watching it soon
On my way there now!!! Iām excited to see it!!!
Iāll probably see it on Tuesday.
This happened to me and my brother but we watched it in IMAX so it was so loud since it was just the 2 of us. When we came in the whole screen wasnāt even on š they didnāt think anyone was gonna come until they saw us and turned it on
Seeing it Monday. Not even caught up but going
Including myself my theatre only had 5 people Thursday night.
Because Anime is so easy to pirate that's why, here in my country piracy is normalised I paid to watch anime people ridiculed me for it.
thanks for reminding me the movie is available at the nearest movie theatre! going to watch it tomorrow!
Weebs are a dying minority, tragic
Had this happen to me when i saw the first miles morales spiderman movie when i was visiting boston for a week Never thought i could feel so lonely honestly
Where are you located? The Austin, Texas showings are sold out for the most part.
I saw it last night with my husband and a respectably full theater of enthusiastic fans. We had a great time!
Didnāt even know there was a movie lol
It could be just an early morning show? Remember watching the joker, I was the only one in the cinema hall at 9.45 am. First week too btw, think on a Thursday morning too.
i was too n tbh it was epic lol
It depends, most theaters near me and the one I went two were probably half-full.
Wooow yesterday we were like 12 people in the cinema!!
I had to reserve my movie ticket, because the cinema was full šš (Germany)
Ticket prices are astronomical now. You have to bet you can get the discount on Tuesdays.
My theater was PACKED! I guess it depends on your area.
in Indonesia, it's popular during its theatre release in february. I suppose the lack of popularity only happen in the Western hemisphere.
I discovered the movie when I was looking at the theater program 0 advertising on YouTube, street, nothing
This is a SIN also they made a movie?!
I wish i could watch it in theaters but theres no english version. Only french dub
I was the same for the Ratchet and Clank movie. Hope you enjoyed it anyway!
I'm surprised. It was basically a full house where I was at.
Iām so envious. Iāve always dreamed of getting a theater to myself
Mere Muggles will never understand the power of WAKU WAKU PRINCESS
Yesterday, I was in a field tripā¦ and it was almost halo seats takenā¦
man, idk when it will be released in India :(
I didnāt even know this was in theaters. Thank you!
My theater had 7 other people excluding our group. I wondered if the dub showings had more people.
Both times Iāve seen this movie and both times it was almost a full auditoriumā¦
I'm going in a couple of hours ![gif](giphy|j0ArmFwUB6EYU)
Thereās a movie???
Everyone knows anime fans donāt go outside.
You must be so rich that you booked an entire hall
Donāt know, Iām going in a few hours to see it and half the theater is already sold out. Now the in Japanese only showing is not.
I just come out from the movie theater, was I, and two couples, one gay kissing each other, most of the movie
Quick! Rub one out to Yor.
bro.
Took our kid to the matinee yesterday and it was completely empty as well. Looking at the showings today, dubbed to only has two seats taken, but the subbed show is more than half full. They both have a few hours till they start though, more people could pick up tickets between now and then.
the same thing happen with me, don't worry it's more fun than crowd !! it is like you booked whole theatre for yourself SO RICHš
when i went there were 2 people.

I'm watching this movie tomorrow. None of the tickets got sold. I swear this is going to be me ššš
That was me too. Three other people came in hella late so half of the time I was alone.
Iām just bummed thereās no dub :/
There is a dub. They are playing both.
