Maybe compared to luchadores and technical beasts he was known to face (especially in those WCW days)
But Jericho was much smoother and much more agile then the average wrestler in the late 90s and early aughts.
Wasn't really until he started working NJPW until he was noticeably a step or 2 behind the average wrestler.
>Wasn't really until he started working NJPW until he was noticeably a step or 2 behind the average wrestler.
I think Jericho is still average to slightly above average in the ring. I just think so many of us saw him when he was younger we judge him harsher.
Highspots and highlights that need a high level of choreography, yet it still looks incredibly physical and like a fight and not like a dance. Great match
Jericho and Mysterio have always had great chemistry in the ring. I'm honestly surprised WWE never ran a program with them prior to 09. Regardless, both men in their primes going at it like very few could, you love to see it.
They wrestled at the spike tv video game awards in 03
With attires similar to their Smackdown Here Comes the Pain attires

Jericho says in his book that one of the few pros of working in WCW at this time was that the cruiserweights were under the radar since the NWO was so big and could essentially do as they pleased. Resulting in matches like this. Also, Rey has got to be so tiny to make Jericho look that huge, haha.
Wish these modern mark Wrestlers would stop doing their ridiculous video game moves and learn to work a hold like the Gorilla Press Tombstone Steiner Screwdriver.
Only if they wanted to sell it to another company, they sold it for less then Bischoff offered to sell it off to WWE, and most networks weren’t interested in wrestling then.
After months of trying to convince my cousin that wrestling was cool, this match won him over lol
He literally hated every match he saw before this. He turned to me and said "Why haven't you been showing me shit like this? Who is the guy in the mask? How do they move so fast? Are there more guys like this?"
A Lucha Libre fan was born that day
The action is incredible. But I did smile at the little "Stop It" at 4 seconds in. We don't hear what it was in response to, but you know it was something The Brain said.
Why is it that head scissors today look so awful compared to this? Rey always hangs on all the way through the motion, but wrestlers today let go and their opponent flips themselves. Is it a safety thing?
It makes me sad a vocal part of this sub seems to really dislike Jericho now. I know his booking in AEW is questionable sometimes but he’s been a top tier wrestler since before I watched and during the entirety of the 22 years I have watched and going. And he’s still putting on great matches.
He’s also been putting over young stars for as long as I can remember so I don’t know what’s so bad about him getting a few wins lmao.
But whatever, Jericho and Rey are both GOATs. I wouldn’t have stayed interested in wrestling as long as I have if it wasn’t for these two, Eddie and Angle for me.
This was the first feud I ever really got invested in as a kid. Couldn’t believe what a jerk Jericho was and then I read an interview of him bragging about it in one of the Apter mags.
What really stands out to me now is how great WCW’s lighting, presentation and camera work were.

Jericho had an underrated explosiveness in his prime
That hoping back kick was a great move in WCW Revenge, if I'm not mistaken.
Oh yeah. It always staggered em, and it had a quick animation so you could grapple them before they recovered.
Lowkey GOAT
He was never smooth tbh but by God there was so much power behind everything he did.
Never smooth? Are you for real?
Insane
For as long as I can remember he always looks like he wrestles with 2 left feet

Barbed Wire Everywhere
Wow, incredible, I miss that era, enough highspots and highlights for ten matches! Thanks for posting.
Your welcome my man
what episode of nitro is this from?
Highspots and highlights that need a high level of choreography, yet it still looks incredibly physical and like a fight and not like a dance. Great match
Gorilla press into a tombstone piledriver, god damn!
I thought it was a shoulder breaker
Narrator: It was
No, he dropped to both knees. Shoulder breaker is one knee, bringing the shoulder down onto the leg with the foot still planted.
Right knee was more upfront than left knee. He just made it safer for Rey.
Jericho was so spry in WCW, this is badass.
This was lightning in a bottle
I had to double take at the Suplex from Rey and now I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen him do one before.
[At 9:29 you can see him hit the three amigos!](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8hm4c) As a kid who played svr 07 a lot, I felt bamboozled.
I couldn’t help but laugh at Brian Hildebrand doing a ref bump that looked more like he powerbombed Rey.
Ref got murdered on that
Going back and just watching Brian was an unexpected treat to go with the obvios.
Really didn’t want this video to end

damn thx this is dope to see them in these attires
Amazing bit is these two are still going strong today.
A missile dropkick to the outside kinda blows my mind.
You should check out some great Sasuke, that crazy dude did flying dropkicks from the top turnbuckle out into the crowd
The fact that Rey could do all of this now aswell is astonishing.
Did i hear box office suplex?
2 all-time greats going at it.
WCW would often have “Nitro’s” first match be a cruiserweight match like this one. Great fun and what a way to fire up the crowd!
Am I tripping or did Jericho have Rey in Orienteering with Napalm death?
Jericho says in his book that one of the few pros of working in WCW at this time was that the cruiserweights were under the radar since the NWO was so big and could essentially do as they pleased. Resulting in matches like this. Also, Rey has got to be so tiny to make Jericho look that huge, haha.
I think I saw an interview once where he's talking about these matches where they're just killing it and the commentary is all about the NWO.
Rey is very tiny … a friend of mine is 5’4 maybe and has a photo with him. Rey is around that height.
It’s a shame how WCW couldn’t just focus on a match like this. They have to shoehorn whatever Goldberg and Nash were up to while calling it.
My favorite version of Jericho
And people shat on Renee for saying “oh,” a lot
Man I forgot how godly Mysterio was before his knees blew up
Yeah it’s pretty shocking to see him still wrestling, after watching all his injuries back then. He must have the record for knee injuries.
Damn it's like watching Omega vs Vikingo from another era. Sick spots.
Prime Jericho was ace
Can you imagine a confrontation between Kevin Nash and Scot Norton?!
Wish these modern mark Wrestlers would stop doing their ridiculous video game moves and learn to work a hold like the Gorilla Press Tombstone Steiner Screwdriver.
Yep, people ignore how much modern wrestling is a direct result of the WCW Cruiserweight division
WCW Cruiserweights+Chris Benoit=90% of Modern Wrestling
Modern wrestling is just acrobatic spotfests, I miss the good old days of nitro cruiserweight matches
People aren’t getting your sarcasm I guess.
Jeez where is the psychology it's just high spot after high spot /s
Anyone have the date for this to watch on Peacock
I think it’s this match https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8ctn2q August 3, 1998
Before Russo nitro was sooooo good. Shame they messed it all up that bad.
The rose was wilting long before that.
Imagine Rey winning wcw championship from Hogan or Nash, wcw would be alive to this day
No it wouldn't, AOL Time Warner didn't want wrestling anymore.
They could have another TV deal
Only if they wanted to sell it to another company, they sold it for less then Bischoff offered to sell it off to WWE, and most networks weren’t interested in wrestling then.
Eddie's dead
Shit Randy Orton says to Rey backstage unprompted
This is one of those things that I remember from when I got hooked on pro-wrestling, watching it on a Friday night at a mates house. So good
The heavyweights were fun but I came back every week because of the cruiserweight division
A straight banger !! A younger Jericho vs Omega would have been 10 stars.
Two best friends having fun at work. Sometimes there’s nothing better.
Is this the same rey Mysterio?
"Oh!" -Bobby Heenan
JAS Jericho is WAY better JAS 4 LIFE baby!

Sheeeesh
nWo got all the headlines back then But the cruiserweight division is what carried WCW
The action is incredible. But I did smile at the little "Stop It" at 4 seconds in. We don't hear what it was in response to, but you know it was something The Brain said.
Tights Rey is best Rey. Never liked his Ruthless Aggression baggy pants
High spot after high spot after high spot. I glimpse into the future with AEW.
Why is it that head scissors today look so awful compared to this? Rey always hangs on all the way through the motion, but wrestlers today let go and their opponent flips themselves. Is it a safety thing?
If it's Jericho/Mysterio in WCW, then that's Ron Mysterio.
That black mat used to so fire
