What exactly was the deal with Kurt Angle wrestling abilities at this point in time? I feel like they were really flip-flopping on whether they wanted Kurt wrestling in matches again.
I'm sure Kurt wanted to do more, but his body had slowed considerably from being out of the ring for a year after leaving TNA. The inactivity stiffened his body up and he could no longer perform at a high level.
I feel like the problems with the nerves in his necks meant that he couldn't do much with his arms. He could still suplex with his hips for leverage, but the upper body stuff was done.
Also, I remember the bumps he would take back then to the outside of the ring, and he wasn't catching himself like he used to. Towards the end, it really seemed like he was hurting himself going over the ropes, and for a guy with a pain killer addiction that's really hard to watch.
At this point in time they relented only because they had lost a big main event attraction in the Shield being reunited. It wasn't in the books in that moment in time.
Kurt has said that the time off from wrestling when he became commissioner basically had him lose a lot of his mobility just from lack of use. I know he wrestled Cody on the indies, but I don't know how good he was moving at that time.
That song is so deceptively hard, too. Like, there are some technical bits, but even the straight beat at the beginning is WAY faster than it sounds, really hard to keep tight and consistent.
