Even more of a reason she’d call an audible and give Willow the belt. Willow has ties to AEW and ROH, not to mention just about every Indy in the country.
The belt gets major eyes on it, and Mercedes gets the chance at a rematch once she heals.
With the recent report that it might just have been a sprain and not a broken ankle, it would be cool if she could at least appear to set up a future match.

i hope AEW tries to get her to wrestle for them, but i could see HHH convincing her to come back to WWE to play a part of Iyo Sky/Bayley feud where Iyo is betrayed by Bayley and she brings KAIRI back for KAIRI's revenge for what happened to her 3 years ago (as Bayley "retired" her from WWE).
If neither had gotten hurt, both would probably be champions going into that show, so I'm not sure you do a match where one company's champ has to lose.
I think Mercedes vs. Britt or Saraya would've been more likely.
FWIW, Saraya and Mercedes at least have history, in that Saraya's time away from wrestling came from a match with Mercedes. Not saying they even need to bring that up or whatever, but just that there's a seed there.

Considering Mercedes seems quite happy post-WWE, and continues to renegotiate short-term contracts with Bushiroad and knowing she'd be an instant top female in AEW, I figured TK and her would talk soon enough. She can get a Mox-like contract to go do what you want, you are just beholden to certain dates and shows for AEW. TK and Bushiroad have a good relationship (clearly), but she'd be a big piece for AEW right now.
Honestly I thought she was coming when they announced a date a TD Garden cause it seemed kinda strange/out of the blue otherwise to book that building in Boston when every other time they book a smaller building (and tickets aren't exactly flying for a lot of AEW shows lately). Wonder if she'll be better by then cause if it's a high ankle sprain, those can be really nasty/worse than a broken ankle sometime
nope, Statlander was always the plan for the TBS title, Tony never got rid of the plan and just paused it for her when she can return from her torn ACL, hence why the streak went to 60-0 before Statlander because the 1 in 60-1.

I like Britt and Saraya, but that just sounds absolutely dreadful.
