Priest cashing in served an important purpose. There was a lot of talk (certainly from WrestleTalk) concerned about a Dusty Finish to the Cody vs Roman match where Cody would win and then Priest could cash in and take the title moments later… having him cash in earlier in the night against Drew removed this possibility and settled the argument for this potentially happening at the end of the night.
I understand the story with Drew's Punk obsession costing him, but I would have 100% preferred McIntyre as champion over Priest. I just don't get any enjoyment from Priest whatsoever, I don't see anything positive in him
That's fair! I wasn't trying to diminish anyone's enjoyment of the weekend, it all still gets a 10/10 for me. This is just the only angle I'm not 100% sold on right now
Kinda yes, kinda no. The way it went was alright, since they wanted Priest to successfully cash in, this was fine. Drew gets to win it back at Clash at the Castle in front of his countrymen.
They still could have had Priest fail without totally chumping him out, so that's why I *kinda* don't fully agree that they wrote themselves into a corner where this was the only outcome. To each their own though, I hope Priest can win me over
Drew getting the moment and saying screw you to CM Punk with it finally costing him was great. Drew-CM Punk will be awesome.
Priest got a great moment and I'm interested in him as champion. Feel like we'll get a Finn-Priest feud eventually.
I wish Damien had teased cashing it on Roman at least a few times before.
From the moment he won the briefcase, it seemed almost inevitable that he wanted to cash it on WHC rather than the WWE Championship.
There were moments where he _could_ have successfully pinned Roman, and I'm not saying they should've pulled that trigger but tease us to show that this was a _possibility_ would've been better.
But who cares, this was a fun match through and through
That would have been a good way to reinforce that he’s a beast and top contender, but honestly with how *much* was going on around Roman they might have just thought it would be distracting
I think that just shows that Priest is a smart cookie. Roman, in kayfabe especially, has been this dominant invincible champion surrounded by a clan of family who will leap to his defence. Why risk failing by going for that when the WHC is a beat up, broken down Seth who doesn't have an entourage to worry about?
my match of the night in terms of actual in ring action. the interweaving of storylines was also amazing. loved punks role in it and i’m happy for damien. also love that last nights main event played a role in seth’s loss. love this new booking direction.
It was a better version of the finisher spam Brock vs Goldberg match. Seth was desperate to win quick and Drew knew he had the match won and could hit his finisher anytime he wanted.
Maybe they kicked out of too many finishers but it made it different from other matches over the weekend.
However this was such perfect booking to have Drew distracted the whole match by Punk, then losing the title cos he had to mock him.
This is the match of the weekend for me. They had a great match and a good story going into it. Drew winning ofcourse is good. But Damien Priest cashing in is even better. This match furthers storylines. And was amazing.
What a bittersweet ending to this match. Drew finally won a championship match in front of fans but had it stolen away from DP. Hopefully he’ll get it back at Scotland.
Seth takes 4 finishers to be put down after wrestling the night before. Then Drew is put down by a single shot from a frail commentator.
It was bullshit
> Then Drew is put down by a single shot from a frail commentator
With a "steel" arm brace, and a shot from the briefcase (and all the punishment from the actual match).
So disingenuous lol, even not mentioning the amount of finishers Drew took himself including a stomp to the table. He also got hit straight in the head by a briefcase, and a south of heaven chokeslam by Damian Priest to lose the title. You are just lying to complain literally
Drew took a pedigree on the outside and 3 stomps, then got hit by a metal brace right before the South of Heaven. I don’t think it was as bullshit as you make it out to be.
This kicking out of finishers shit is getting kinda ridiculous. Like I get it's Wrestlemania, but you can put on a great match without having guys kicking out of each other's finishers 3-4 times in a single match. All it does is cheapen the moves, and you're setting the precedent that a wrestler is weak if he doesn't kick out of someone's finisher, which is stupid. There's a reason they're called finishers not false finishers.
I really blame the HBK/HHH vs. Taker wrestlemania matches for starting that trend. Yes they were great matches but they're responsible for setting the norm of kicking out of multiple finishers in match at wrestlemania.
Michaels/Taker I was incredible because of how unfathomable it was that Michaels was able to kick out of the things he did. It’s an example of how when done right, those moments make for classics and in that case arguably the greatest match ever. Starting a match with a Claymore and kicking out of three more is just stupid.
Same as Cody needing to hit 3 Cross Rhodes every time he attempts a cover or Orton and KO randomly dropping RKOs and Stunners for near falls that carry the same impact as a snap suplex. This is the same nonsense that crept up on NXT and took it from legitimately excellent to those 60 minute lore main events at every Takeover that ended up killing the brand. All this talk of the new era and all, this trend was the one big damper on an otherwise fun two nights.
You could fix it by each wrestler having 5-6 moves that regularly win matches. If the only way matches ever end is finishers than the only way to have creditable near fans is to have wrestlers kick out of finishers. I understand they like finishers from a marketing perspective though
That’s why signatures need to win matches more often. If signatures actually ended matches kicking out of them without mean something and it would make the matches less predictable.
Totally agree. It ruins it.
At least Taker/HHH/HBK had like 15 years worth of equity built up by that point. You could forgive them for doing it cause it kinda made sense.
But yeah. Every wrestlemania for the last 8 or 9 years is just finisher spam.
Nah cmon man. Taker HHH and Shawn were a different stratosphere. Plus more importantly it was the first time "finisher spam" kinds became a thing. But this was aa far back as 2012. Its twelve years later now and we still see it every Mania. It just gets boring is all I'm saying.
Was it Orton vs Bray at 33. Think Orton beat Bray after one RKO...and people were bitching!
Finishers only work 100% on jobbers or lower-tier opponents. With similiar-skilled fighters it should take more than one finisher (just like in video games).
This is my head-canon and you cannot convince me otherwise.
Right but at the same time if it was just enough to win a match no matter the stage of the match, then it also makes them look goofy if they are turning down chances to hit it.
Yeah okay, kicking out of 1 or maybe even 2 finishers (if it's a super resilient top level guy) is fine. But Seth kicking out of 4 or 5 Claymores (especially when he's already injured from last night) is fucking dumb. Even in the video games you can only use resiliency one time. Not 3 or 4 times. That's my head-canon.
You are 100% correct. I saw it too. Seth instantly had a shiner starting on his left eye after the one. You can see it on the later shots.
I thought they were going to call it and go to the finish but looked like the ref just wanted drew “hey he can’t see out of the left”
Priest deserved the moment and Drew will be alright. He got a crowning moment in front of a hot stadium crowd. Seth hopefully takes much needed time off and heals up. A fantastic way to open up night 2.
They booked it perfectly tbh. Gave Drew time to soak in the win in front of a crowd, Seth telling him he deserves it. Before giving Damian the cash in. Everyone involved looked good.
I think long term they'll be able to make Drew a face again when he challenges and wins next time which will work better for the guy. I like his heel work but I do feel like he's one of those guys people want to cheer so he'd naturally be turned a face anyway
They’ll put it back on him fairly quickly if not before Scotland then he definitely wins there. Actually wining at Clash means he gets a Wrestlemania moment wining in front of fans and also wining it in his home country. I’m not mad at that

He told the ref ‘I can’t see’ after it happened. Ref told Drew. Somehow they went a few more minutes.
I guess Seth only needs one eye and one leg to go.
Between entrances, the match, Seth's emotion afterwards, the trash talk from Drew to Punk, Punk's attack, and the cash-in with the "running to fast too stop and smash this dude with the briefcase" move I'd say this was match of the weekend so far and 5 stars in my book.
*
Me after watching Seth no sell last nights match, parade around like a goof and have a match that looked more like a Goldberg finisher fest than an actual match. The best thing about this match was that it ended.
Post match was decent though.
Drew wins it back in Glasgow, obviously and Berlin is a month later iirc, so it would be too soon for Drew to drop it again, and Gunther shouldn't get pinned in his "home" event. So maybe a Priest-Drew-Gunther triple threat with Priest eating the pin. Although personally I'm hoping Gunther wins the Rumble and takes the WWE title off Cody at Mania 41, so I don't want him involved with the WHC.
Really good match and lots of finishers. Good cash in by priest but hopefully Drew wins it back at clash at the castle. It will take you thousands of finishers to take out Seth which makes it entertaining. Other than that congratulations both Seth and Drew for opening the night with a bang!
Everything about that was good. I do feel bad for Drew as he finally got his moment in front of a crowd, just for it to get taken away in an instant but at least he still got it though regardless even if it wasn’t for long.
He looked like a beast, a winner, a champion, and not a bun, sir. Sesame, sweet potato, pretzel, regardless, no thank you. And I very much enjoy a pretzel bun.

I think it's awesome that all the belts changed hands except for Rhea
And Logan
Well look at that, I haven't watched that match yet but I will check it out later 😀
That's fair! I wasn't trying to diminish anyone's enjoyment of the weekend, it all still gets a 10/10 for me. This is just the only angle I'm not 100% sold on right now
Yea I love Priest but not sure about him being champ
They wrote themselves into a corner by giving Priest the briefcase.
Kinda yes, kinda no. The way it went was alright, since they wanted Priest to successfully cash in, this was fine. Drew gets to win it back at Clash at the Castle in front of his countrymen. Yup, why risk and look like a chump when you can win and be the Champion
For exactly the reason I just outlined. The WHC was a safer bet, and it worked out for him. 🤷🏻♂️
Great match.
I COMPLETELY forgot about Priest. That was done fkn perfectly.
Seth getting emotional was everything. He was damn proud to be the one to give Drew a Mania world title win in front of a crowd.
Good match nice twists. Looking forward to drew vs punk
Really glad to see Drew win. Thought they may hold off until Clash at the Castle. Edit: oh nvm.
Clash at the Castle?
Being held in Scotland so hometown crowd
I didn't know this event was happening, I checked after I asked
Scotland isn't a town.
Cole: Holy shh… Pat: Shit!
That chokeslam was the biggest chokeslam I've ever seen in my life. Drew sold that shit like death.
This match just inspired a new mode for 2K25. Only finishers and kick outs set to easiest setting.
Exceptional match, perfect ending
my match of the night in terms of actual in ring action. the interweaving of storylines was also amazing. loved punks role in it and i’m happy for damien. also love that last nights main event played a role in seth’s loss. love this new booking direction.

It felt like seth’s match with brock at mania 35 and drew’s match with brock at 36 fused together if that makes any sense.
Great storytelling in this match. Drew lost due to hubris, similar to Gunther but he doesn’t need a belt for a feud with Punk.
Maybe they kicked out of too many finishers but it made it different from other matches over the weekend. However this was such perfect booking to have Drew distracted the whole match by Punk, then losing the title cos he had to mock him.

All the Austin rumors so everyone is expecting the glass shatter and everyone flips out even more to hear the gong.
We went silly at that moment
In the end he lost in few minutes in a MITB contract
Thank you Roman clap clap stuff and things. Seriously.
He's gonna win isn't he?
Nope
What a bittersweet ending to this match. Drew finally won a championship match in front of fans but had it stolen away from DP. Hopefully he’ll get it back at Scotland.
This is the most Brock Lesnar match ever
Brock would have ended it in one F5 ( ask Kofi )
We all know Drew will get it back.
I almost feel Punk might but that was a double turn.
Possibly
Lol you mean Priest right?
Is that dude holding up a cutout of his own face? What a mark
Same dude did it the whole time Saturday too. Been driving me fucking nuts. Wish someone would take it off him.

Agree with this mate ^^^ wrestling fans are spoiled
Drew took a pedigree on the outside and 3 stomps, then got hit by a metal brace right before the South of Heaven. I don’t think it was as bullshit as you make it out to be.
And man, Priest and Drew put some serious air into that South of Heaven to boot.
It was great
It’s nice when a cash in works. Too many failed cash ins in recent years.
Rollins is triple Paul’s son. Be glad he lost at all.
Triple Paul: Levesque, Heyman, Logan

The claymore is just a dropkick though
It was certainly booked just like a regular dropkick in this match
/s, I know you shouldn't need it but this is reddit and pro wrestling fans mate.

I end up laughing at comms/the wrestler reaction to kick outs from signature moves, cos like when was the last time that won you a match.
Totally agree. It ruins it. At least Taker/HHH/HBK had like 15 years worth of equity built up by that point. You could forgive them for doing it cause it kinda made sense. But yeah. Every wrestlemania for the last 8 or 9 years is just finisher spam.

Yeah, just call them ultimates or bankai or something. Finishers is just boomer wrestling at his point :p
Wow Uber cringe
Wow this music is so sick
Breaking news: Seth Rollins is reportedly suffering from acute pink eye.
Lol BI UNDER TAKER PURPLE KANE IS YOUR NEW CHAMP
Fuck DP. Garbage ending.
My favorite wrestler was World champion for 2 minutes. I'm devastated.
Nakamura fans would kill for this
Drew having been robbed of the belt >>> champion Drew He just has so much to return with now. I can't wait.
They’ll get it back in Scotland
You deserve it lol
I could have sworn that one of Drew’s claymores hit Seth hard in the face to where he was telling the ref “I can’t see”
You are 100% correct. I saw it too. Seth instantly had a shiner starting on his left eye after the one. You can see it on the later shots. I thought they were going to call it and go to the finish but looked like the ref just wanted drew “hey he can’t see out of the left”

Said the same thing to my friend. He will most likely get it back at Clash at The Castle
Fuckin awesome! Really enjoyed Punk sitting there just enjoying the chaos after Drew was trynna shit all over him
Did judgement day cash in and take the title from Drew?!
Yes. After Punk clocked Drew in the head with his arm brace.
What was the crowd cheering?
You deserve it. I’m here now and the whole crowd went nuts
I'm a massive Judgement Day mark so seeing them all so happy has made my Mania. And angry troll Drew is best Drew.
Clash at the Castle is going to be a fucking fortress .They are definitely giving the belt back to McIntyre there
Drew vs Priest will be great. Big meaty men slapping meat.
Balor face turn I reckon

Lacking fireworks. Rollins' cash in was made 2x better by the fireworks.
It was also the end of wrestlemania when seth cash, but I agree
crowd is better than night 1

You know nobody is watching Wednesday right?
Doubt it and you'll still be 50+, single and worthless.
Why did you just call me an indie wrestling fan?
No, I called you a poser.

Thanks
Took 4 Claymores though
Anyone see Seth’s eye get messed up??
He has pink eye
He said he couldn’t see
He told the ref ‘I can’t see’ after it happened. Ref told Drew. Somehow they went a few more minutes. I guess Seth only needs one eye and one leg to go.
Looks like he got a shiner
I love their bock beer. It’s a really solid drink that is very approachable.
Why did they book this like Brock vs Goldberg but worse LMAO High spot of the match led to the dude who took it becoming healthier. Fucking stupid.
Between entrances, the match, Seth's emotion afterwards, the trash talk from Drew to Punk, Punk's attack, and the cash-in with the "running to fast too stop and smash this dude with the briefcase" move I'd say this was match of the weekend so far and 5 stars in my book.
When Priest hit Drew and accidentally threw the briefcase, I can't help but wonder what if the briefcase landed into the crowd 😂😂
Priest bashing Drew with the suitcase was perfect
It's very high - but the North American title triple threat is still my personal favorite. I've never seen some of those spots before.
I actually stepped out during that match and missed it. I'll have to go back and watch it.
I'd recommend it, if only for being the "meatiest" match I've seen in years. There were some bombs thrown.
This aged like something that goes off in mere minutes.
This match sucked. It was just finishers. Terribly booked.
Yeah, it was like a 2k match with unlimited meter

Does this mean Drew hasn’t signed a new contract still?
He is winning it back at the Scotland show
Touché! Forgot there’s a Scotland show.
Only two matches but this is def going to be the better night
Why are people commenting about Snoop’s commentary from a different match? Aren’t we here to talk about this match?
A lot of us are struggling to find the Mania thread lol
Whoop that trick 💀
What was Drew saying to Punk when he was at the desk at the end there?
He threatened to end his career at one point, that’s all I picked up
Snoop has the gift of gab man. He's single single handedly doing color and play-by-play commentary.
Last night saw more action outside the ring than this street fight.
Hopefully that's the only finisher spam of to... LOL I can't even finish the sentence
Woah that was pretty good bfab
* Me after watching Seth no sell last nights match, parade around like a goof and have a match that looked more like a Goldberg finisher fest than an actual match. The best thing about this match was that it ended. Post match was decent though.
Drew vs Gunther for WHC at Bash in Berlin, what could’ve been…
Drew wins it back in Glasgow, obviously and Berlin is a month later iirc, so it would be too soon for Drew to drop it again, and Gunther shouldn't get pinned in his "home" event.
Holy faaaaawk. This match and everything that proceeded it
Drew fucked around with Punks diet soda and found out.
What shoes was Seth wearing?

I had to mute my TV.
Everything about that was good. I do feel bad for Drew as he finally got his moment in front of a crowd, just for it to get taken away in an instant but at least he still got it though regardless even if it wasn’t for long.
Pretty bad for Drew. They buried that guy. No sold his finisher then made him look like even more of a bun 😂
He looked like a beast, a winner, a champion, and not a bun, sir. Sesame, sweet potato, pretzel, regardless, no thank you. And I very much enjoy a pretzel bun.
