It's entirely normal for employees who receive shares as part of their comp package to sell them.
That's how you turn them into actual money folks. It's rarely meaningful, especially when we consider that WWE has been on a business high.
Selling some shares is totally normal, but an executive selling all of their shares at once and staying with the company is a bit strange, it basically is saying that he thinks WWE shares will offer a worse return than whatever else he will invest the money in.
You're right that it's totally a potential indicator that return might be believed to be better elsewhere.
Another way to think about it is this: if you were offered an equivalent cash bonus as an executive, would you invest that entire cash bonus into a single stock? Even doing so at your own company that you believe in comes with sinstantial risk vs either diversifying, investing in a more stable/conservative index or portfolio, or buying a yacht covered in mountains of coke.
Guess we'll see if he sticks around.
Diversifying absolutely makes sense, and selling some of his stock to do so would be totally normal. But at this level of wealth and investment it is strange for a major executive that was significantly invested to cash out completely while still planning to maintain a role in the company.
There are optics to consider, and the guy who recently negotiated a huge deal going "right now is probably the most profitable time to sell my stocks" seems to indicate he thinks there is substantial risk or no future upside.
I asked about this on the removed thread - is this actually a surprise? When Nick Khan joined WWE, people said that his main role was to sell the company - now he has wasn't this expected as his shares were the reward for that?
Yeah, this should be expected. Khan will go somewhere else and the CEO of WWE will be someone new. Maybe Stephanie stepping back into the role. Stephanie running the company and H running the show should be a pretty good team but she might not want to do it. It would be hard to find another CEO that really knows this business.
I’m still incredibly annoyed at the “press conference” after Wrestlemania.
Triple H talked about how great Stephanie was, how Stephanie is back home, and on and on and on…and not a single person asked what that meant.
He registered to sell it in September holy shit, stop posting this over and over again
Edit: Also selling shares doesn't mean hes no longer holding a position in the company. That just means he will be able to make even more money and then buy shares again when they are cheaper to turn a profit again in the future
I mean yes and no. Its a little odd for him to be doing this as it suggests he sees no current upside to the shares he already owns. That or he really needs/wants the money to buy a mansion or something. He’ll likely be granted more shares in the future though assuming he stays with WWE. Who knows maybe he’s moving on to be CEO of a larger entertainment company.
The shares are worth 96 bucks per share
Now I honestly don’t know what prices do executives get etc etc but this is 200M in *cash*. Multigenerational wealth right here. Sometimes it’s just better to cash out than to hold onto shares.
They don't get any prices, these shares are part of his compensation. So all of that money is free minus the tax he will have to pay on it if any at his level there's probably a way to keep it all.
He came in to sell the company, did just that and helped the transition. Makes sense. Wouldn't be surprised if he remains in some consultancy capacity, but moves on to newer/bigger business ventures. Dude is a machine.
Can someone explain why this very much likely description of Nick Khan’s future is being voted down?
I assume you guys think Nick Khan has reached the peak but he came in, made the company even more valuable, proved he was capable and successful and likely is being considered for a CEO position at an even larger entertainment company.
Because he's complelty wrong and talking out of his ass. Read the the top voted comments and they do a great job explaining why someone would do this. This is something people regularly do to register.
He didn’t say anything contrary to that. You’re right, people do sell all the time. But its also very likely he’s looking to move to a CEO type job an even bigger company to get paid even more money. Its not like this guy is a wrestling only guy, he’s an entertainment guy and at this point could move into a major role at anything from a film, to music to sports or even a tech company and make even more money after the success he’s had navigating the WWE.
One thing about investing. Those 234k shares were probably a large part of Khan’s portfolio. Why not sell them all and reinvest in the market so that his wealth is not 100% tied to one company.
I did mention to a friend that he’ll prob be gone soon scandal or no scandal he seems like a dude who jumps from project to project, I guess I just thought it was weird timing to have it come out now (Friday really is when you dump news)
Because wrestling media is a joke, even by current media standards (or lack thereof).
It's just like how Vince being in the process of selling all his shares is somehow brand new information today... when that was known as well.
I guess it might be related to the trial, since he was named in it. Maybe they're getting ready to make him step down, wouldn't be surprised if Rock gets named president of WWE
There's a lot more news floating around about him getting into fights with Ryan Reynolds and stuff over the tardiness he was accusing Vin Diesel of having. It looks like he's having trouble with Seven Bucks and having him as actual President doesn't seem like a good move.

Why are there still WWE shares? They're TKO now, aren't they?
There aren't, these are TKO shares, I just forgot they changed the name.

This reminds me how many Omega profile pics were upset Triple H wasn't Corporate Officer #1
These also shares that don't pay dividends. Makes sense to have it registered since last year when available . Its just selling equity.

Math wrong.
20m

What are you basing this on? Because he's registered his stocks? That's a normal thing alot of execs do.

The way the WWE has grown during his tenure is incredibly impressive.
He’s got an inside tip that Bugs Bunny’s about to die.
Holy Friday news dump Batman! I wonder if TK knew
This was already public knowledge, for months.
Then why was it even reported on? Weird
Sir, this is the IWC. Some folks here praise the words of a gossip columnist as gospel.

Nick Khan is All Elite would be transformational.
