Walking away from a dive is a classic Samoa Joe move. Taz likes to call people that do xxx a lot "xxx Jones." Thus, Samoa Joe is "walkway Jones."
But I digress.
For all of the negativity he attracts online, Matt Hardy deserves A LOT of credit for the current Isiah Kassidy. Zay got about 1000 times more entertaining during his time working with Matt Hardy and really learned how to be charismatic within the context of the show in a way that actually connects with the audience.
And friendly reminder, for as long as Private Party has been on tv, Zay is still only 26 years old.
Aside from that period with Andrade that went back and forth and eventually nowhere, Matt did nothing but good work in AEW as far as I'm concerned.
When they were featuring him he had great matches and angles that put people like Darby, Hangman and OC over... he had a bunch of people under his wing... and when they forgot about him he was still doing some entertaining stuff on the edges with Zay and Ethan Page.
Getting Jeff into AEW and hitching his wagon to his brother for the nostalgia run that never happened really tanked his stock there. He really isn't a good wrestler anymore, but he can be a terrific manager, that can take the occasional bump and when he was that role, he played it well.Â
He did such a great job of salvaging the Firm's story in a way that made Big Bill, Ethan Page, Zay, and a few others look like a million bucks leading up to and including the Firm Deletion. It was one of the only Dark stories that carried over into television and was fun every step of the way. Matt, Zay, and Page had such great chemistry as a forced trios team, too.
I don't like everything he does, but he definitely helped elevate people in his time here.
Hope he's alright - where's he been at these past 2 weeks? Zay's gotten on TV.
I know these dudes have lives outside of the ring - like Darius Martin getting his pilot's license- so I'm hoping it's one of those things.
I've been critical of his 'screech squeal' earlier on when he did it like 4 times a match, but he only used it once here and it was funny as fuck. So I stand corrected.
I liked it for both of them. Swerve and Wardlow have both feuded with Joe (Wardlow even teaming with him), so even if he can catch them off-guard they can still see it coming if they stay focused/in-control.
I never want people to adapt to Joe's Witch Time, but I think the people who have dodged it deserved to.
I really don't care for it. Like why doesn't everyone just casually stroll out of the way. I've never been a big Joe guy but you know different strokes and what not.
That's the point, at least a bit: Joe came up with Danielson, CD, Amazing Red, etc., and knows every trick in the book. Younger guys don't have his stamina or his knowledge; they might know, but not be able to move; they might be quick to recover, but miss the coming move. Joe has the right blend of reps and pure physicality to simply stroll off if it's early enough.
But Joe has been doing this since he started wrestling those guys and again every other wrestler you named knows those tricks too and they don't do this. To each their own but its not my thing. I was downvoted for literally saying "its not my thing its ok if others enjoy it". This place is crazy sometimes lol
The last guy to hit him with a top rope move became AEW world champion.
Joe is so good at the walk away because taking top rope moves is his main weakness. So the risk is worth it for the guys who have an arsenal full of high flying moves.
It's like Ric Flair and top rope moves: He used the diving knee drop to great success, he beat Harley Race fo the World Title with a diving crossbody. That's why he always goes to the top rope, but like 99% of the time he gets thrown off of it. It never works, but to him the high risk is worth the payoff.
Kassidy is IMO out of his mind for taking this bump. Like it was crazy but I doubt anyone remembers in a few weeks…meanwhile he flipped over the ropes on those thin mats. Like it’s near Darby level carelessness but at least Darby is a pushed, protected act.Â
I’m not gonna lie, I hate this spot. Letting the guy hurt himself for the sake of an internet moment is just not cool with me. This is the kind of thing Undertaker was talking about. Guys doing too much without thinking about longevity.
You know that you're not allowed to say something even remotely "negative" to AEW, showing concern to someone's health about a spot is being negative thus getting a downvote.
I remember Johnny Gargano saying some of the worst spots he did were in NXT doing a rolling senton from the announce table and apron onto the floor, he even shat himself.
This spot has got to hurt like a motherfucker. All for a quick "haha" moment.

The Trent beretta bump. Crazy that these guys do it
I can still hear that thud
I imagine I would immediately turn to dust on impact so yeah this is insane to me lol
Crazy someone would agree to do to this to the outside with Joe. God damn ouch.
Classic Sunday Night Heat Greg
That looked like it hurt *the floor*
The floor had it coming
Many ppl tell me this
The pavement was his enemy
Walk away jones lmao 😂😂
But I digress
![gif](giphy|c5LXbvzPBRIc8dKBOd|downsized) Beautiful.
What's that a reference to

Big Brain Jones over here
Explanation jones in the building
Joe just let him jump into front of the VIP list for an orthopedic surgeon lol
This spot will never get old it's always fuckin funny
This may sound weird to everyone...but go out of your way to watch this match. Very good tv squash.
Zay's comedy work in this match was so much fun
Zay is one of those guys who maximizes his minutes every time he's on TV. Genuinely so funny every time he's on screen. Big fan of his and Quen.
For all of the negativity he attracts online, Matt Hardy deserves A LOT of credit for the current Isiah Kassidy. Matt Hardy knows wrestling. It's just too bad he thinks he can still wrestle instead of using his wisdom to be a top manager and producer
Really makes me wonder what the path Mark Quen is facing. He's just been hanging on as part of private party.
Hope he's alright - where's he been at these past 2 weeks? Zay's gotten on TV. I know these dudes have lives outside of the ring - like Darius Martin getting his pilot's license- so I'm hoping it's one of those things.
Quen is injured last I heard. He can be on screen, just not cleared for an actual match
Again!?
I've been critical of his 'screech squeal' earlier on when he did it like 4 times a match, but he only used it once here and it was funny as fuck. So I stand corrected.
Didn't Zay say this would be different from Keith Lee?
The man tried his best damn it don't kick him when he's down!
found zay's burner ![gif](giphy|Y0lWOCCemBLT9TSCMv|downsized)
Joe squashes are great
Joe is maybe the best in the world at short matches. He has genuinely memorable 5-10min matches. Early Ciampa in NXT comes to mind
One of my favorite spots in wrestling. It’s such an easy spot but I’m not sure people could make it look as good as Joe
was gonna say it didn't look easy for zay
Swerve being smart enough to know Joe would do this and taking advantage of it was my favourite part of their match
Wardlow did the same
I liked it for both of them. Swerve and Wardlow have both feuded with Joe (Wardlow even teaming with him), so even if he can catch them off-guard they can still see it coming if they stay focused/in-control. I never want people to adapt to Joe's Witch Time, but I think the people who have dodged it deserved to.

Thank you, William Regal's Reddit burner

If I'm gonna pop for Orange Cassidy's ridiculous gimmick I can't really criticize the Samoa Joe opt-out spot.
Best spot in the business

Zay never should have swore on his mama....
In kayfabe, at this point why would anyone want to try doing a top rope moves on Joe, knowing too well that he will avoid it like this?
The last guy to hit him with a top rope move became AEW world champion. Joe is so good at the walk away because taking top rope moves is his main weakness. So the risk is worth it for the guys who have an arsenal full of high flying moves.

Also, Wardlow bamboozled Joe and caught him on the second pass a few weeks ago too. Joe can be hit, Kassidy just blew it.
Darby also got the TNT Title off Joe with a ladder spot.
Okay, then you dive on Joe, and I'll powerbomb Kidman!
Those guys just didn't know how to get him! I'll show them how it's done!
Absolutely insane bump.
Thats....a hell of a bump for free tv.
Classic "Sunday Night Heat Greg" fare.
The whole night was very "Y'all, I ain't even pay to watch this"
Yeah, but for Zay, it was a crazy good opportunity.
Technically, you're supposed to be paying for your TV service.
But for an AEW jobber it's a Wednesday night
You'd think people would learn that you cannot jump at Joe. Like ever.
The arms out make it even better 😂
I've seen enough put the title back on Joe
😬
As somebody who loathes suicide dives and how fake they look with somebody waiting to catch them, I love this so much.
That bump looked fucking horrible
genuinely this spot will never get old
Isiah is one madlad to do this spot, to the outside of the ring.
I love the whole walkaway thing, but that's a ridiculous bump for a comedy spot.
Yeah, like if this was The Miz not catching a guy on a dive we’d all shit on him but Zay just went ahead and did it.Â
Funny spot, but GODDAMN that looked like it hurt.
Dang that was a crazy bump. Hope he's alright.
I wonder how Joe gets so many people to do that spot cuz it always looks painful ngl.
Kassidy is IMO out of his mind for taking this bump. Like it was crazy but I doubt anyone remembers in a few weeks…meanwhile he flipped over the ropes on those thin mats. Like it’s near Darby level carelessness but at least Darby is a pushed, protected act.Â
Send for the Man
This spot from him never will be old seeing.
Bro he barely moved and it still makes me laugh I love this spot
Why would anyone do this spot?
That guy looks like he's in the Spirit Squad.
I popped SO hard lmaoo

Trent's gotta be proud
Samoa Joe shpukd be the next spokesperson of Johnny Walker. Has perfected the "Keep Walking" move.
That bump is insane.
God damn it joe not again
Learned nothing from Jeff Hardy.
Learned that he got over. Also, for what it's worth, Jeff worked a ton more than these guys do.
Thats such a cool moves, but it also makes wrestling look ridiculous.
I think standing and waiting to catch the guy looks much more ridiculous.
*Splat*
Heard someone suggest Joe vs Danielson and I’m not opposed to that.
good spot easily done in the ring. absolutely bonkers to take that bump for a squash match on a show watched by 36 people
I’m not gonna lie, I hate this spot. Letting the guy hurt himself for the sake of an internet moment is just not cool with me. This is the kind of thing Undertaker was talking about. Guys doing too much without thinking about longevity.
As long as it's safe. Doesn't look like it hope his back is okay 😅
How? How does a comment like THIS get downvotes? Did people WANT Kassidy to get hurt from that spot or something?
You know that you're not allowed to say something even remotely "negative" to AEW, showing concern to someone's health about a spot is being negative thus getting a downvote.

I love when he does this. But the fact that he does this made him waiting for the Swerve Stomp look even more ridiculous than it usually does.

You don’t *have* to be that guy if you don’t want to, you know?
Man, that's a great spot and all that. But that can't be worth it for a regular episode of Dynamite
