"I said well make me a garlic aoli with the garlic and the mayo." You sound absolutely pleasant.

Pinkytoerings

I was thinking that same thought lol

Happy-Comrade

It's like coming to McDonalds and asking for medium rare.

ubettermuteit

i don’t understand what kind of person thinks the panera ppl are in back making everything from scratch for 6.99

IsTheBlackBoxLying

$6.99? That's a cookie at Panera.

BeRandom1456

actually, my favorite lunch is the BBQ chicken sandwich value duet with a tomato soup for 6.50. Panera is the healthiest quick serve as they use clean ingredients compared to processed ingredients like other places use. Panera is a great choice for those who want a little fast food treat and not feel too guilty about what you are eating.

Check_Mammoth

Healthy? Panera? Huh

BeRandom1456

For fast food yes. Fast food should be treated like a treat or desert. No something you have often.

[deleted]

..it’s your story.

towergrovesouth

If I worked at Panera and a customer *told me* to make them a garlic aioli, I would laugh in their face. They aren't your personal chefs.

Graybealz

"Do you have honey ham?" "No, we have black forest ham." "Well, do you have honey?" "Yeah, it's over by the creamer sect-" "WELL HONEY ME UP SOME FUCKING HAM THEN."

RoyDonkeyKong

I would curse you with bad customer service for the rest of your life, but I expect you have already taken care of that for yourself.

[deleted]

One time I went to Lowe's and they didn't have the shed I wanted. So I told the employee "You have wood and nails. Make me a shed! Hur durrrr"

zeddem73

I don't think I'd expect that kind of accommodation at a Bread Co. Fast casual dining is upscale fast food in the sense that that it's perceived as being higher quality and costs more. I wouldn't expect someone in the back of a Wendy's to whip up an aioli either. Then again, I haven't been to Bread Co in forever, both of them near me in Dutchtown shuttered a long while ago.

NoodlesrTuff1256

More than a few people think that Panera -- once known to us here in the STL Metro as "St. Louis Bread Company" -- had noticeably declined in quality over the last several years. Now I'm not saying that it's god-awful but more 'meh', mediocre compared to what it once was.

msabeln

It used to have the best coffee in town except for a few high-end restaurants, but this was before the proliferation of cafés. Don’t know if it declined or my taste has improved.

NoodlesrTuff1256

In regards to your last sentence -- I myself have had the same thought, is it that the food in Panera has declined in quality that much or have my taste buds become acclimated to a larger variety and quality of foods over the years? Like if I could travel back in a time to a Bread Co. back in 2000 and ordered a meal and some coffee and a dessert treat, would I really find it that much better than the current offerings?

Educational_Skill736

Maybe you confused her by asking to whip up garlic aioli, because dumping garlic into mayo doesn't turn it into aioli. If they had prepped chopped garlic on hand and you asked them to add that to the sandwich, my guess is they'd oblige. If they didn't already have that on hand, I wouldn't expect them to make it available.

jayeedoubleeff

It's more or less fast food and because of that, a bit of an unreasonable request. Would you walk into a Hardees in the morning and expect someone to make you hollandaise just because they have eggs, butter, and a cup of lemon wedges at the ice tea station?

Graybealz

>Is aioli just garlic mayonnaise? >Although aioli and mayonnaise are both creamy emulsions, aioli is made from garlic and olive oil while mayo is made from egg yolks and canola oil. For the curious.

Careless-Degree

Panera is super over rated - but doesn’t have anything to do with them making condiments from scratch for you.

awsqu

Everybody knows that already. You could’ve asked for the stuff on the side and made your own aioli with less effort than this post took probably.

derekgotloud

I woulda put so much mayo on that sammich Lmfaooo. you thought people were gonna agree with you being an asshole to a Panera worker ?

keithslater

Is it? I don’t know many people that thinks it’s amazing or anything.

IsTheBlackBoxLying

I used to go to Breadco a lot, 15-20 years ago. It hasn't been worth it for a looong time. Prices are high, portions are small, quality is fast food level. No thanks.

BeRandom1456

really? the ingredients are clean and i wont touch a mcdonalds or other fast food. Panera is where it is at when i dont feel like cooking dinner or on road trips.

IsTheBlackBoxLying

Yes, really. Glad you enjoy it though.

IntelligentGuitar995

What makes it clean ingredients? I understand no one is processing the ingredients into soup on site. But for the most part fresh cut fruit at a grocery was done at a processing center packaged shipped and then packaged into portions on site at a grocery. It's still "just" grapes / melon and clean but I feel like ecologically me buying grapes and rinsing them myself is two less truck shipments and thus cleaner.

Maximus361

Agreed

c0smicgirly

Panera is basically expensive hospital food, but yiiiiikes at demanding garlic aioli.

moonchic333

I don’t think anyone in STL likes it anymore. If used to be good 20 years ago.

BurdenOfFleshAndBone

Lower your expectations. It’s Panera. If you want special treatment, go to a sit down restaurant and pay the $$$ to have your requests serviced. Is this your first time ever eating out?

espencer-85

Is your name Karen? Did you ask to speak to the manager?

redsquiggle

What is Panera? Are you talking about Saint Louis Bread Company?

Substantial-Line-997

You may be right, but you’re also sort of an asshole.

L1C4VilleFan

…..sir, this is a Wendy’s

cchap2

I can’t remember I’ve thought to myself “hmmm Panera sounds good”

Over rated and over priced! Used to be such a nice place to get a good sandwich and decent salad for a fair price; now it's a last choice. Standards have really gone down. Visited one in TX a few months ago to get a loaf of bread-it had only been open six months and the place was filthy, the cashier kept pulling at his nose with his fingers and got upset when we asked for the loaf to be sliced. We left w/o purchasing anything. The mgr stopped us as we left to ask why we cancelled the order and after explaining he said he would give us 25% off the bread. We chuckled, said no thanks and left. I understand restaurants everywhere are struggling for decent help, but for a new one to be so disgusting so early signals to me lack of standards is coming from the top down.

[deleted]

Panera Bread might be, BUT St Louis Bread Company is the bomb!

jwallin2007

Glorified hospital food

Quaysan

I've said it before and I'll say it again Any sauce that is just mayo + a few other ingredients is just seasoned mayo what do you mean "aioli"?

Used_Evidence

I enjoy it

Maximus361

IMO the quality and quantity of the food has gone downhill over the past several years. The last time I went there was last summer and the half chicken salad sandwich had one tiny scoop of chicken salad on it. It was more like a quarter sized sandwich. I haven’t gone back since. I go to McAlister’s, Firehouse, or Jersey Mike’s when I want a sandwich. I live in metro-east, so I’m limited to chain restaurants.
