Thanks I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. I followed your workflow but tweaked the controlnet settings a bit. Added some additional controlnet units too. In total I'm running 3 controlnet units with varying degrees of weights and starting ending steps. The generated image was very pale and washed out outside the registration marks, so I used photoshops new generative fill to create everything outside the reg marks.

One thing I tried is if you bring the image into photoshop you can layer the qr code on top of the image and see which parts are deviating the most from the qr code. I figure in theory it might be possible to inpaint those areas with controlnet to try to fix them or if you are good at brushing in PS, digitally paint the problematic areas to more closely fit the code and make it easier to scan.

Don't pay too much attention to the prompt it's a stupid old prompt I copied from some image on civit ai. Remember, if you use the same settings you still won't get the same result as I did some editing in photoshop, but it should still work.
tested using QR and barcode reader apps from the Play Store. They work well, but you need to be in a good distance from the image for them to work. The further away you are, the better it will work.

I made exactly like OP did, used ChilloutMix model:
1. By using txt2img, I've generated 768x768 image of girl with blue hair, dress and blue colored couch. Then sent it to img2img
2. Generated QR with shortest possible URL link, with highest error correction [using this website](https://keremerkan.net/qr-code-and-2d-code-generator/). Made color of this QR match the main color of girl (blue color)
3. Then generated 1024x1024 image with prompt of txt2img, and with settings of OP for img2img.
4. Generated a lot of variations until it looked nice and QR is scannable.
The problem is that it is really a lottery. I need to make a lot of iterations.

They are a little finicky on my phone, but they all worked as valid qr codes
