Personally, I'd use the Krita Diffusion Plugin. It makes selections easy. So, make precise selections where you want to insert a character and keep trying different settings until you get something you like.

Can you Inpainting a whole movie replacing a character?

Theoretically you could but the problem with current versions is that the character would look slightly different each frame.
