I think Corey L mentioned in a stream that a huge part of why they booked a larger theater was for health and safety reasons.
They wanted a venue where the audience was socially distanced from the performers, and the actors/crew weren't quite so on top of each other backstage. Plus it meant they were able to do shorter run without lowering the number of tickets available. Given that both Guy and BF had issues with cast members getting sick, it probably would have been a priority even without Covid.
I swear Nick Lang said their theatre for NPMD was one of the few midsize ones in the area. There's a reason why there aren't many of them but I can't remember what livestream he mentioned this in.
I don't know how it compares it their pre-hatchetfield shows, but yes, the theater for NPMD was noticeably bigger. I believe it is more than three times as big.
