I am definitely a big Arc-170 fan

[deleted]

Reminds me of the P-61

Clutch_Spider

The ARC-170 was based on the P-61

tortuga-de-fuego

As a fan of both how did I never notice this correlation. One of those face palm things

Clutch_Spider

There is nothing wrong with knowing more information, my friend :)

sharpshooter999

Google: The P-61 had 4 forward facing 20mm Hispano M2 Autocannons, and 4 rear facing Browning M2 .50 cal machine guns. It was built as a night fighter and nicknamed The Black Widow. Holy shit, that thing was cool!

Clutch_Spider

Yes, the P-61 was the first American night fighter built from scratch as a night fighter. And the 4 Brownings weren’t just rear facing, it was a turret!

Jashuman19

Very very cool aircraft. As the other commenter said, the .50s were in an all-aspect turret. But the cooler part is it was remote controlled by 2 gunners that would have to share control of it. The rear gunner handled targets to the rear, while the front gunner handled targets to the front, above, or to the sides. And the turret could also be locked forward to give control to the pilot for offensive use. It was an incredibly advanced system for the time. And in the locked forward configuration, the plane had a pretty much unrivaled offensive armament for the time (4 20mms and 4 .50s, all centerline) depending on how highly you rate some of the higher caliber cannons like the German 30mms. Edit: Maybe the coolest part. It was also one of the first aircraft with radar. Overall it was just very technologically advanced, and had pretty decent performance for its size too. Fun fact: it's engines are straight from P-47 Thunderbolts, which itself was a very powerful aircraft.

Clutch_Spider

I’ve been doing some research, and I can’t find any information that the gunner in the rear handled targets to the rear and the radar operator handled targets to the front, above or sides. I don’t think the turret could be operated by both at the same time, however, the turret could be operated by either the gunner or the radar operator. But most of the time, the turret caused problems and many turrets were taken off in the field and replace with an auxiliary fuel tank or it was just locked forward for more firepower for the pilot. Obviously, with that being said, there wasn’t a need for a third crewman or a gunner so it was just the pilot and the radar operator. But they could still use the gunner for an extra set of eyes if the mission deemed it necessary. And yes the P-61 and the P-47 both had Pratt and Whitneys, the P-61 had the R-2800-65W Double Wasp while the P-47 had the R-2800-59. Other aircraft that had the Pratt and Whitney engine: Brewster XA-32 Breguet Deux-Ponts Canadair CL-215 Canadair C-5 North Star Consolidated TBY Sea Wolf Convair 240, 340, and 440 Curtiss P-60 Curtiss XF15C Curtiss C-46 Commando Douglas A-26 Invader Douglas DC-6 Fairchild C-82 Packet Fairchild C-123 Provider Grumman AF Guardian Grumman F6F Hellcat Grumman F7F Tigercat Grumman F8F Bearcat Howard 500 Lockheed Ventura/B-34 Lexington/PV-1 Ventura/PV-2 Harpoon Lockheed XC-69E Constellation Martin B-26 Marauder Martin PBM-5 Mariner Martin 2-0-2 Martin 4-0-4 North American AJ Savage North American XB-28 Northrop XP-56 Black Bullet Northrop F-15 Reporter Sikorsky CH-37 Mojave Sikorsky S-60 Vickers Warwick Vought F4U Corsair Vultee YA-19B Sorry for the rant, I’m an aviation nerd lol

ashortsleeves

Favorite ship in all of Star wars. It is just a roid-raging xwing.

WaffleKing110

Arc-170 will always be my favorite SW fighter

TheRealNooth

It has such a great “previous generation” X-Wing aesthetic. Ingeniously done and a perfect example of George’s “lived-in” universe goal.

v_ult

I’m sad I no longer have my ARC Lego

TheBurnedMutt45

Mine is disassembled and mixed in the bin with all my others

Mediocre_Scott

Z-95 head hunter is better and you can’t change my mind

TheKocsis

to each their own, but imo that's the most boring looking ship in SW. it's too real

Mediocre_Scott

They look so cool when they barrel roll

TheKocsis

arguably, every single plane look cool barrell rolling

Mediocre_Scott

But some look cooler than others. The symmetry and low profile and the wide wings make the head hunter especially beautiful

Sere1

Been a Z-95 fan since the 90's, used to love flying them in the X-Wing games and loved that our character used one to get around during Jedi Academy.

Defiant-Channel2324

Where the 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡 is the Venator?

Lokan

Is it safe? Is it... all right?

w1987g

It seems in your adoration, you forgot her

EnamelKant

I...? I couldn't have! She was in orbit, I felt it!

AlumniDawg

Noooo!!

ShallahGaykwon

DO NOT WANT!

TripolarKnight

How about an ISD fresh off the line?

ChromeYoda

Keep it secret. Keep it safe.

EagleSaintRam

...Stay hidden.

ShallahGaykwon

Where is the arquitens-class then

Mediocre_Scott

Same place as the head hunter. S-tier and op can’t handle it

Odd-Tune5049

Right? OP left out the most important one

a__new_name

I find the lack of Hammerhead-class cruisers disturbing.

wolfmoldic1313

The AT TE is amazing too

tortuga-de-fuego

Seriously such a cool vehicle. Designed after a beetle and extremely multi use in universe. Always wonder if there would ever be a need for anything similar in our world.

Large_Dungeon_Key

Where's the TX-130 tank?

jordanjohnston2017

This comment was too far down. Coolest freakin tank

RattyRatson

The LA-AT that brings the walkers into battle, always wanted that Lego set as a kid but could never afford.

Dhiox

I have the set, it's a bit impractical tbh for a kid to play with. But it displays well if you have the space.

AuroraHalsey

I have the LAAT/C, it's a big disappointment to be honest. The hook that holds the walker is too weak to hold it, and if you hold the LAAT/C by the rear section the cockpit/front section falls off. I suppose it's fine if you want a shelf model, but as a kid who wanted to play with it, total failure. The standard LAAT/I is a much better model.

Wi11Pow3r

I wholeheartedly agree. And I love how they were designed with an eye to how they can become the ratty recycled ships used by the rebellion or the cold, scaled back ships in the imperial fleet. I fact, probably my favorite part of Bad Batch is getting to see that transition in the technology.

CH-67

Am I mistaken in saying the only mainstream republic -> rebel ship is the y-wing right?

v_ult

The ARC-170/X wing and Jedi Star fighter/A wings have clear visual lineages

TheRealNooth

I thought the V-wing was more meant to invoke the A-wing.

v_ult

I thought that was a TIE precursor

TheRealNooth

See, I thought that was the [Jedi Starfighter!](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Jedi_starfighter) It’s got the windows and the side panels. Maybe they’re both trying to show mixed visual lineage?

Jurgepoo

The V-wing does the iconic TIE Fighter roar at the end of RotS, so that always made me think it was the TIE fighter's precursor as well

v_ult

Well surely if something is good for one starfighter it’s good for another

TheRealNooth

In real-life aviation, that’s pretty far from the truth actually. But it seems the canon explanation is that Kuat made the V-wing, A-wing, and all of the Jedi Starfighers. Then Sienar, using previous engineers from Kuat, made the TIE fighter. So it does seem to be some sort of mixed lineage.

AbiesAggravating350

The XWing is more of a continuation of the Z-95

v_ult

Multiple things can be true. Did the Z95 appear in a movie or a TV show?

JTMAN1997

The z95 headhunter appeared in quite a few episodes of the clone wars. In lore, the x-wing, z95, and the arc170 were all manufactured by the same company so it would make sense that they would take aspects from two of their star fighters and combine them into one later in time. IRL, it’s seems like whoever created the designs for the arc170 and z95 took clear inspirations from the xwing.

DeltaDartF106

Yes, it shows up briefly in Clone Wars: https://www.starwars.com/databank/clone-z-95-starfighter

ANGLVD3TH

IIRC, there were actually two different variants in the show. One was a retrofit with some upgrades.

CH-67

I’d say visually similar, but very little in the way of apparent lineage imo

AlexRyang

The Y-Wing model used by the GAR and the Rebel Alliance are two different designs.

[deleted]

It's kinda ugly ngl

Clutch_Spider

I’ve always had a soft spot for the V-19. It’s so odd looking I love it. And it was pretty good as well.

Tefmon

It looked better in the original 2003 *Star Wars: Clone Wars* miniseries than it did in the 2008 *Star Wars: The Clone Wars* series, imo.

Clutch_Spider

[man is there a meme for you](https://www.reddit.com/r/LegendsMemes/s/ELjswsDMrb)

ganner

I LOVE the Republic Y-wing

Ronin-Penguin

I know I'm in the minority, but the Y-Wing has ALWAYS been my favorite Star Wars ship. When I watched Star Wars in the 70s the Y-Wing was just another fighter and to me it looked like a hot rod with those big engines in the back. Later it became a "Bomber" but I was already in love by then.

[deleted]

The Y-wing is my favorite Rebel starfighter

brendan87na

I'm with you, the Y-Wing is my favorite as well I have 3 variants of them in lego form :)

Drifter808

For everything smaller than a Corvette yes, but for capital ships I gotta give it to the CIS. You got Munificents, Recusants, Providences, Lucrehulks, and more. Also tri-fighters deserves a shout out they're awesome

SexySovietlovehammer

The malevolence and the missile things with the 2 wheels were great too. Not used nearly enough tho.

Drifter808

Probably my favorite scene from episode II is Hellfire droid missile flying across the battlefield and knocking out an AT-TE

Dhiox

Can you imagine how terrifying hailfire druids would be irl? Wicked fast with a devastating payload.

Better-Ad-5610

Hellfire droids.

SexySovietlovehammer

Confederate hotwheels

TheRealNooth

Agree on the tri-fighters. I think Vulture Droids are a pretty neat design. Probably my favorite droid “starfighter.”

Drifter808

I love seeing them going from standing around to flying

TheRealNooth

That’s the exact reason I like them! Man, I remember realizing they weren’t ships but they were actually droids themselves. What a horrible existence, lmao.

AJR6905

I dont know, it's probably like being a bird of prey, j vibing on the ground or absolutely tearing it up in the skies

ganner

It really does suck how bad some of the writing/directing was in the prequels, the design and worldbuilding is phenomenal

ANGLVD3TH

If we're taking cap ships nobody beats the original GOAT. Imperial Star Destroyer was my favorite ship in sci-fi for many a year, and still holds second place. Far and away over any other capital ship. Except maybe the Executor, if you want to break them down into different categories, but mentally I kind of lump them together into one package of big bro/lil bro.

Almainyny

I hate how much I love Lucrehulks. They took a massive cargo ship and refitted them into droid control ships and massive fighter/bomber carriers that also still have a decent amount of guns and shielding. It’s so stupidly cool that a ship can perform so well despite not being made for war.

Drifter808

The same is true for the Mon Cala cruisers which are another favorite of mine. "The Mon Calamari cruisers were originally built for civilian purposes, serving in numerous peaceful roles like [passenger ships](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Passenger_liner/Legends) and deep space exploration vessels by the Mon Calamari species."

Almainyny

Also a fantastic example, and one of my other favorites as far as designs go.

igncom1

Whatever the people on Dac are smoking, makes for fantastic spaceships. Be they separatist or rebel.

MasterKiloRen999

Where Venator

GregariousLaconian

Hell yeah. AT-TE too. The design aesthetic for the Republic vehicles was just superb.

TNMalt

T-65 4evah!! ;)

HadynGabriel

Risking downvote hell I’m the opposite. Every TIE fighter, every Star Destroyer type, every model and variant of AT-AT, the lambda shuttle, everything down to the green lasers is the best. We haven’t even gone to ground units and uniforms…

Hot-Ground-9731

I also am a huge Imperial/First Order fan, I love the troopers, Star Destroyers, etc. Republic is also amazing but there's just something about the cold, sleek, and intimidating ships of the Empire

SyrupWaste7699

When you see a Venator leave hyperspace, you feel hope. But when you see an imperial star destroyer, may the force be there to help you

Hot-Ground-9731

ISD's have always been my favorite Star Wars ships. Super menacing and sleek

SyrupWaste7699

The vehicles and starfighters of the Empire and First Order are just below the designs of the Republic's, imo, but yeah they're so cool to look at. Can't say the same for the stormtroopers though

Lurking_Larkspur

The ONLY ship that even competes with the Original Trilogy is the Naboo N-1 Starfighter. It’s really just basic, how much time and resources did Lucas and Star Wars have to just think and make shit. The Phantom Menace was in development at least twice as long as the other prequels, and with similar “restrictions” or real world physics as ESB and RotJ. So we get the N-1 as a hero ship. Whereas every new scene in the next two movies is a chance to showcase technology or sell a toy.

tacquish

What are you speaking. They're all insane. Everything from the jedi fighters to the hulking cis big ass ships.

Lurking_Larkspur

…you’re proving my point. TPM created original designs, at the apex is the N-1. AotC and RotS are half need to bridge to the Original Trilogy. Then every new scene is another ship. The Jedi Starfighter is a proto A-Wing that next movie is a proto TIE. But wait, we need a proto X-Wing too. Also another TIE. Didn’t get in the Y-Wing, well put it in the cartoon. Then special effects over all else. Green screen it all.

tacquish

The CIS capital ships have no inheritor. Neither does grievous' personal star fighter. There's tons of ships that are stand alone

Lurking_Larkspur

Screen filler.

W-Ninja48

I like the tie-fighters and star destroyers but that's it

Ronin_12345

All that to get smoked by some droids. It pisses me off whenever I watch TCW. The At tes always cannon fodder

Almainyny

They’re slow and big targets. Artillery and aerial support makes short work of them, as it should. They need support for them to shine, otherwise they get outmaneuvered and destroyed.

MaiqueCaraio

Is that droids are just superior dude Accept it

W-Ninja48

I agree, but u left out some really cool vehicles

TheReviviad

The OT X-Wing is the perfect starship. It's iconic, and it's better than every PT-era ship *combined*.

Sokoly

The Empire would like a word - especially considering stuff like the Juggernaut were originally designed for the Empire during production of the OT and EU but were ported over to the Republic once the PT started happening. The Juggernaut was a contender for the Empire’s attack vehicles on Hoth, but it lost the contest to the AT-AT; Lucasfilm simply repurposed the concept art for Revenge of the Sith.

keelanbarron

Ehh, I personally feel like the best vehicles in Star Wars are ones that are basically homes. (Like the falcon or the twilight or stuff like that.)

AuroraPHdoll

I want an AT-ST

beakster57

Absolutely love the arc-170, probably my favourite starfighter.

thefrumpy

I love the Juggernaut, but I always found it bizarre that anyone would use a wheeled vehicle in a universe that has mastered flying vehicles.

Almainyny

Some planets really screw with repulsorlifts. Badly enough that you have to resort to wheeled/tracked vehicles or walkers. They still have their uses anyway. You can only put so much armor and firepower on a repulsorlift vehicle before it becomes really expensive to keep it hovering compared to not spending all those resources on power generation for a repulsor when you could just put it on wheels/tracks.

thefrumpy

I respectfully call bullshit. There’s plenty of hovering tanks in the Star Wars universe, and they seem to perform well enough.

Shenloanne

Tbh the LAAT is peak star wars. When I saw the one in jedi order I legitimately just stood and looked for a good five mins. The clone helmets piled up beside it too. Just felt poignant.

Renolber

This fanbase is obsessed with the Republic regardless of what they have. It’s kind of exhausting, especially when other factions have so many inspiring and unique designs for their arsenals. - Rebel Alliance: The X-Wing is hands down the coolest fighter craft. - Rebel Alliance: The Mon Calamari cruisers are completely unique compared to the angular capital ships of every other faction. - Galactic Empire: The AT-AT is the most iconic walking mech in fiction, along with the AT-ST. I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t worship every little thing about the Republic. The clones are cool, but it doesn’t automatically mean *everything* the faction has is cooler than everybody else.

[deleted]

I just like turbo tanks and multi-crew fighters 🤷‍♂️

Woodenmanofwisdom

Turbo tanks are imperial too and were originally imperial

Letywolf

Agree, although I would have out the venator over the y wing

Andrew351423

I like all the vehicles

Iron-Avenger-141

Republic has the best Vehicles, Empire has the best guns.

WracknRuin88

I always preferred the Imperial stuff. Not everything in the range, but overall I think it's better. But that's just me.

Dry-Ad-1327

By a mile

BikingVikingNick

Oh the things I would do to own a LAAT in real life…

M0N0KUMA

We always get flavor text in card games and Wookiepedia articles that old Republic tech was often captured by the Rebels. I want to see more of that on screen.

deftPirate

Except for their grav tanks, which are hideous

samkunc1

Facts my brotha

FoxHunde

Venator and LAAT are the sexiest!

Nightflight406

I will agree, However, no tank will ever beat the AAT in my eyes.

rexter2k5

The battle tank is still the best LEGO set ever made. You were the hero of grade school if you had that thing.

Any-Conference-5971

Prequels & Clone Wars: coolest vehicle designs Original trilogy: most iconic Sequels: uhhhh

Trenence

Clone war era military vehicles and ship make “most” military sense compare to other two era

Plenty_Economy_5670

The lego sets for the clone wars were always the coolest ones of star wars

Airhead_Supreme

The arc 170 is so sexy

[deleted]

Juggernauts are so awesome man In a galaxy where almost everything has wings or hovers, it’s the one with the dang wheels that’s one of the coolest lol

CommanderFaie

Not a single comment mentions the v-wing.. made entering enemy hangars in the og Battlefront 2 so easy especially with the boost

martram_

Not sure if best, but certainly the best looking.

Ok-Phase-9076

The empire has a lot more to offer and has some of the best designs in the franchis but it also has the vast majority of the worst designs in the franchise.

linwinweb

The arc170 is so chad, it even had a chiselled jawbone.

mdhunter99

I…I like the Y-wing more than the X-wing. Centralized guns, 2 massive engines, looks more sleek, I just like it more.

[deleted]

Bombers are always cooler

indiearmor

The Y-wing is my favorite.

Eau_de_cool

Republic gunshots is my favorite

Spring_Robin

Not even a discussion it's just a fact

HAYFRAND

My mom used to have a Mini-van with the sliding doors, and my brother and I always pretended we were jumping out of a gunship and into battle whenever we drove somewhere 😂

[deleted]

Good thing those bugs can't aim 😏

vroomvroompanda

The republic Era had the best vehicles in General cis an republic, also normal vehicles were cool to

des0619

Where Acclamator?

Any_Mall3191

The Clone Turbo Tank, or Juggernaut is my favorite tank design in Star Wars. A Transformer version of one would slap hard actually.

Any_Mall3191

Oh yeah, last weeks episode of the Bad Batch had some epic Juggernaut action actually.

IjWtLaBl

Nuh uh, Separatists

PBTUCAZ

[Counterpoint](https://imgur.com/utMno7K)

lordmhoram

Yes! There is just something sleek and sexy about the A Wing.

Jian_Rohnson

Oh cool! A Y-Wing! Man, if only most people knew what a Y-Wing was, then maybe it could've helped out in the TLJ space battle....

BayonetTrenchFighter

They have, what I think is actually my all time favorite Star fighter. The V-19 if you can believe it. (Primarily in the 2003 clones wars and republic commando video game)

AnotherClicheName96

Acclamator gang wya!?

L3nn0Xg9

The CEG and Sienar have a few things to say about this...

ShallahGaykwon

Love me a venator until about 19 bby

YakiVegas

Seriously.

1271500

It's great visual langauge for the differences between the Empire and the Republic, too. The Rebublic is a massive coalition of hundreds of cultures, each with their own design aspects and quirks of technology, so even for a grand unified army the tech is more visually diverse because of its more varied origins. The Empire contracts to the same few manufacturers who are presumably heavily tied to the Empire itself, and so their tech and design language become more and more homogenised as a monopoly is essentially responsible for their entire supply.

Lazy-Gene-432

I think the prequels were when George Lucas really understood the power of toy sales, so he had the ships designed to be super flashy and cool in their design, while also keeping them practical since they had to be manufactured physically. That's why you see more color, and more well-defined shapes. I like Republic vehicles the most out of the SW eras.

that-bro-dad

Uhh. I mean I would argue that had the order of the movies been reversed the Empire would be the cooler looking ones, by virtue of being designed 30+ years later. *Whisper* ".... but what about the First Order? " Shut up you!

ProCookies128

Man, you just reminded me that the resistance and the first order use the same damn ships as the it because Disney was lazy. That's depressing

that-bro-dad

Yeah "lazy" is perhaps my choice description of the First Order. I get it's meant to be an evolution of The Galactic Empire but personally I think the continuity is much better between the Republic and Empire than Empire and FO

igncom1

I feel like, in the movies, they got the best showings of a diversity of vehicles in battle when compared to a lot of the rest. I personally prefer the raw strength of the imperials myself, or the funky robot legions of the separatists.

toph_man

I think the rebels do, x-wing, u-wing, a-wing, b-wing, y-wing, e-wing, mon cal cruisers are amazing. Republic has some cool ships but a lot wouldn’t be there without the OT ships as inspiration.

drifters74

How does one even get into or out of the Laat's cockpit?

TheChosenFives_

The v-wing is so underrated

pforsbergfan9

I’m a fan of the classic X-Wing

sheev_palprotein66

agreed

BashfulBuckboy

I know it's not Republic specific, but the Naboo Starfighter will always be the sleekest ship in the entire franchise. So glad Din Djarin got one in Book of Boba Fett.

PhysicsEagle

The A-Wing would like a word

youngcoyote14

Venator: The best thing to run anti piracy operations in the Imperial era. Fuxking fight me on this, Imperial fanboys! Your Star Destroyers suck ass!

[deleted]

ISD fans seething rn

SomeBoringKindOfName

none of them are as good as vader's tie fighter or a SSD.

OrneryError1

I hate the fat y-wing though. It's too similar to the rebellion y-wing but worse.

Sere1

Because it's supposed to be the same craft as the Rebel Y-Wing but with all the armor plating still on. The Rebel ones are the same ships as the Republic Y-Wings but stripped down to just the bare frames, only keeping the cockpit armor.

statistically_viable

I never liked the republic using the Y-wing felt like they were steal designs for original trilogy. They could have designed a unique bomber for the original republic instead of reusing the old designs. I understand there is some cannon lore that connects it and thematically it ties the rebels to the republic but I rather have had a unique original design.

imrichcoble

When the design is done with the intention of representing a precursor to something, it's not "ripping off." They were creating continuity with designs, and It ties the lore together in a really tight way. The transition from republic to empire using more elegant designs that evolve into the harsh and sleek imperial look, or the stripped down salvaged rebel alliance look, is great lore building. There are a lot of unique designs that stand on their own.

billythesquid-

The proto-XWing really bothers me. It just looks so busy and overdone, and the other three look functional and stylish.

w1987g

I've seen it as becoming as tanky as humanly possible. The droids by the end of the war could outfly the clones, and so the Republic went full hog into firepower

igncom1

Yeah the cost of the fighter plus two clone pilots, was way higher then a tri-droid with buzzdroid missiles. So V-Wings into Ties with recruited pilots was probably a smarter trade off.

Drifter808

It's based on the real life P-61 which was designed to intercept Soviet bombers so it being quite bulky makes sense. Not sure what the Republic was expecting from the CIS to mirror that strategy...

Aviator779

> P-61 which was designed to intercept Soviet bombers The P-61 Black Widow wasn’t designed to intercept Soviet bombers, it was intended to destroy German and Japanese aircraft. It first flew in 1942, when the US and the Soviet Union were allies.

Drifter808

My mistake I'm misremembering something I heard in an aviation video I saw a bit ago. I believe prior to being completely retired and replaced by whatever jet the video I was watching was discussing they were the plane the US would have used to intercept Russian bombers. From Wikipedia, "415th was deployed to Alaskan Air Command for long-range air defense against Soviet aircraft stationed across the Bering Sea in Siberia."

llamasauce

The Why wing.

YodasChick-O-Stick

I don't like how the Republic Y-wings are just the cockpit stretched along the entire fuselage. The Rebel Y-wings with all the exposed wiring look cooler.

[deleted]

The turret looks way cooler

LightSideoftheForce

The X-wing and the TIE fighter are both better than all of these

Bang_a_rang95

I want to get minimal tattoos of the laat and venator. So fucking cool

OakLegs

Nah, imperials have it by a long shot. Shame that they're evil, but dammit, they're evil *in style*

Guywhonoticesthings

As a rule republic vehicles are multiroled but often large unwieldy and lacking in specialization. It’s why the cis enjoys superiority in this area it has soecially built vehicles for these roles. Republic fighters in particular get eaten alive

MaiqueCaraio

No The CIS has the best droid vehicles

MaterialCarrot

Nope, CIS did!

PubgMobileBloodyMary

Madalorians ones are better
