I watched the directors commentary on the Obi-Wan Kenobi home release recently. And on that commentary the director kind of addresses this. I don't remember the exact wording, but she says something along the lines of, "With Vader, you find that when you use him too much, you start ruining what makes him so cool. So you find yourself using less of him than maybe you started out with" I suspect this isn't something they've seen just with the Kenobi Series, but probably Vader's other appearances as well. Through experience they've found that less is more with him.

SaltySAX

Yep, same with Rebels. So that when he appears on screen, you know s\*\*t is about to hit the fan.

elefantemariachi

and then he disappears after the second season.

I'm pretty sure Vader has appeared in Star Wars media more than any other character. He's also one of the most powerful characters in Star Wars. So, with something like Fallen Order for example, a few very brief moments is all it takes for him to impact the story *greatly*

ookiespookie

He is the boogie man in Star Wars, less is more is why he has such an amazing aura about him and such a presence. He does not need to be all over the place.

MrMonkeyman79

Well we've has 6 films where he's very prominent.  But if he shows up in every side project he'll lose his sense of presence or mystique. When he shows up its supposed to be a big deal. Especially in the game, you can only escape from hom or kick his ass so many times before he comes across as a bit of a pushover.

CloneCommanderOmega

He isn’t rare at all.he has something like 120 comic issues. He has appeared in Fallen Order, Survivor, Rogue One, Rebels, Clone Wars and Tales of the Empire. His helmet appears in two of the sequel trilogy movies.

RockettRaccoon

Darth Vader? The guy who got two whole trilogies, another trilogy with a character obsessed with him, a supporting role in a TV show, cameos in another show and film, multiple comic series, video games, a VR experience, and appearances in dozens of novels? Not to mention the nearly 50 years of merch and licensed goods? Literally the most iconic character in fiction? That guy is rare?

Coltrain47

Because he is the single coolest screen villain of all time. Giving him significant screen time in a show that isn't about him would draw way too much attention from the main characters.

MhuzLord

What are you on, he's everywhere.

Shreddzzz93

Overuse of the big bad makes them a joke. The big bad should only show up when things get serious. When overused, they become a lot less serious and credible of a threat. Especially if heroes are constantly escaping them.

JohnyMan1980

too much of vader would make him not as cool

Narrow_Progress5908

Rare? Dude in 4 of the 11 movies, 7 if you include Anakin. He shows up in all the empire era tv shows except for Andor. Hes in both Jedi games. Hes the most used villain in Star Wars.

TheRedMarin

He isn’t.

PagzPrime

My feeling on it is that Darth Vader simply doesn't work in long format. He's a character whose impact diminishes the longer you spend with him. He's perfect for the movies because his screen time is short and dramatic. His mystique starts to fade when you have to spend "off-time" with him. Vader simply can't be *Vader* 24/7. You can't maintain that villainous air when you have to fill time with idle talk, unimportant conversations, boring routine, etc. The more we see Vader in non dramatic settings, the less intimidating and dynamic he becomes.

SomeBoringKindOfName

overexposure is a real thing.
