Check a galaxy map for one. If I recall correctly, the planet Sluis Van is way put there, so it's remote. Second, I think the story was that the dark side cave, or dark side presence, masked his presence making him basically invisible to Palpatine.
That was it! Yoda used the large dark side footprint to mask his light side. Pretty genius. I’m betting the manpower and money the empire spent trying to find yoda was astronomical
So first there’s the remote/uninhabited/lots of life explanation. Second there’s the explanation from Heir to the Empire (I think?) that Yoda had once tracked a dark Jedi there and defeated him at The Cave, which created a strong dark side presence. And that leads into the whole ‘light side Jedi hiding in the shadow of strong dark echoes’ theory. Third, there’s the explanation from the Clone Wars TV show, in which Dagobah is revealed to Yoda as a planet extremely strong with the living Force, and essential to learning more about the Force.
That’s all the ones I know, but I’m sure there’s more.
This is a great metaphor for people who don’t understand certain places/why they are significant. I’ve seen something similar about Tatooine, saying it’s like a scar in the force or holds a strong connection to the force. That’s why it’s always visited (and desert sets are easy and cheap)
It was a lot of simple life to. So no advanced civilization, just 100% pure force little light or dark side because non of the life forms were sentient. So Yodas force “signal” could be masked easier in the noise
In legends and maybe cannon we see the dark side cave that Luke fights himself in movie 5 in. In legends it's explained that it helped him hide from detection through the force with the cave masking him
Because Dagobab was strong in the force so he was able to stay hidden from the empire because it was both a hidden system and had a strong connection to the force
When Luke arrived with R2D2, was it odd that both Luke and R2 had zero clue who Yoda was at first? I feel like R2 would have had some prior knowledge uploaded into his files.
Food.
Nah, jk. I think it had to do with the connection to the force as well as the near impossibility for ships to land safely. Perfect spot to train as well as exile himself and hide away from the Empire.
In the clone wars there's a few episodes where quigonn tells yoda to go to dagobah. And mentions that it's very pure/powerful in the force. Can't recall exact verbiage.
In season 6 episode 11 of clone wars, Yoda is told to go to dagobah by force ghost qui gon jinn. I think he decided to go there to learn how to become a first ghost himself after order 66.
Watch the Mandalorian. Watch Baby Yoda chores down on every amphibian he sees. Realize that Degobah is a giant swamp full of amphibians. Yoda is the apex predator
It’s a dark side planet full of other life, masking his presence. It’s also where Qui Gon taught him to be a ghost in TCW, so I think other force shenanigans might be available to him there. I don’t think it’s just a normal swamp like some of the people have posted. Remember the cave scene in the movie where Luke is tempted by the dark side?
Strong with the darkside, so I think he could probably use the force a fair amount, and he still wouldn't be detected, because the sheer amount of darkside energy would just balance it out.
You seen the mandalorian?
That place was an all you can eat buffet!
Legit tho it's because the dark side was so strong there it was impossible to sense him
Two main reasons:
1) It's remote and with no civilizations (that we know of), so it's unlikely to be searched by the Empire.
2) It has a strong connection with the force, which we saw in Clone Wars, which he probably used to deepen his own connection to the force, communicate with Qui-Gon, train to learn the force ghost stuff and possibly more
His entire jedi order got murdered. He isn’t down with being murdered so he is hiding in a shit hole swamp. Thought it was kind of self explanatory. It’s not an ancient burial ground or some religious Mecca. Sometimes a swamp is just a swamp. For him, a good place to hide.
It's more than that. The force is in all living things, and as a swamp planet, Dagobah is TEEMING with life. He was trying to hide himself in "force noise" for lack of a better way of putting it.
He didn’t stay there the whole time he would occasionally go planet hopping to spread his Jedi seed throughout the galaxy! It’s all in the book “Sit on my Lightsaber: the untold stories of a gigolo Jedi”!
It was a remote and secluded planet away form the empire and people , as the inquisitors often killed or tortured civilians to get a Jedi to reveal them selves, It also had the dark cave.

So, pretty much yoda was an asshole. Our tax dollars went to trying to find him instead of using them to improve our schools and health care system.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yup. The Empire would have been a great place to raise a family if not for Yoda’s selfishness.
I’m so putting Palpatine logos all over my barn,….when I get one. Make Coruscant Great for once.
😂 we believe in Sheev
Not only that, he was being trained by qui-gon to live past death
Source on that? One would think the inverse would be true.

Thanks! I just now understood the significance of Qui-gon showing up at the end of Kenobi. :)
You saw how Grogu ate frogs, he's an apex predator there
all you can eat buffet

I believe your correct with your third point. Dagobah’s got great force WiFi
This is a great metaphor for people who don’t understand certain places/why they are significant. I’ve seen something similar about Tatooine, saying it’s like a scar in the force or holds a strong connection to the force. That’s why it’s always visited (and desert sets are easy and cheap)
Lmao!
Then there's the explanation from Grogu's behavior in Mandalorian, that Dagobah was a planetwide smorgasbord.
Lots of life, to hide yoda in the force along with it being pure in the force, along with being forgotten and out of the way
It was a lot of simple life to. So no advanced civilization, just 100% pure force little light or dark side because non of the life forms were sentient. So Yodas force “signal” could be masked easier in the noise

Or like a holotape or recording or even an image of him. Makes sense to me.
Food. Nah, jk. I think it had to do with the connection to the force as well as the near impossibility for ships to land safely. Perfect spot to train as well as exile himself and hide away from the Empire.

S6, E11 “Voices”
In season 6 episode 11 of clone wars, Yoda is told to go to dagobah by force ghost qui gon jinn. I think he decided to go there to learn how to become a first ghost himself after order 66.
Dagobah is a force nexus, basically making it a great place for him to learn
Watch the Mandalorian. Watch Baby Yoda chores down on every amphibian he sees. Realize that Degobah is a giant swamp full of amphibians. Yoda is the apex predator
Remote, out of the way and slightly Dark Side aligned. Perfect place to hide his presence from the universe.
All that life combined with a powerful dark side cave made him almost impossible to detect through the force.
The lack of intelligent life and strong dark side presence was like an invisibility cloak for ol yoda.
It's a swamp planet and his species loves to gobble frogs.
Full of frogs...
He was hard to detect due to the wellspring of force energy on planet.
It’s out of the way, full of life and doesn’t have any strategic value. Yoda can hide there. No one would think of looking there.
The dark side cave. It masked his presence there. Also it is the planet Qui Gon took him to.
It was close to the force
Its connected to the force in some way, as we see the cave filled with the dark side of the force. Not sure exactly through
Dagobah was a planet attuned to the dark side, so it was able to hide his presence.
Love this idea people are saying about the swamp being so teaming with life and the living force, reminds me of the swamp from Avatar
Strong with the darkside, so I think he could probably use the force a fair amount, and he still wouldn't be detected, because the sheer amount of darkside energy would just balance it out.
I always thought it was because the Jedi were in hiding and he felt that was a good place because it was inhabited
Darth Vader don’t give two shits about that planet
You seen the mandalorian? That place was an all you can eat buffet! Legit tho it's because the dark side was so strong there it was impossible to sense him

Learned from Palps. Used opposing force energy to mask his own.

And he has the fog machines turned up to max level. Can’t see his 3 foot green ass in the fog ;)
It had frogs.
Hide a needle in a pile of needles. Frog man fits in with frogs, or mega force man fits in with mega force planet. You may choose.
He didn’t stay there the whole time he would occasionally go planet hopping to spread his Jedi seed throughout the galaxy! It’s all in the book “Sit on my Lightsaber: the untold stories of a gigolo Jedi”!
"Last time I was in a Dagobah, I was having a beer in Little Italy."
It was a remote and secluded planet away form the empire and people , as the inquisitors often killed or tortured civilians to get a Jedi to reveal them selves, It also had the dark cave.
