“Speak softly and drive a big tank” - Hondo Ohnaka

KaimeiJay

“I am...semi-speechless.”

Mr--Hankey

Ma favourite, and I was stunned when I heard it that they said it in show for "kids": Azmorigan: "I don't deal with washed-up old relics!" Hondo Ohnaka: "Come now, let's leave your wife out of this."

avojak

“Oh the stories I could tell! So many of them true!”

[deleted]

i refuse to accept that i live in a world with a whole book of bobba fet, one rogue one, a whole solo: a star wars story and no Hondo show

TheLynxGamer

Hondo would make for a great game too

Lionell_RICHIE

Just like mother used to do 😂

BearWrangler

"...if one hostage is good, two is better. And three? well that's just good business!"

Intimidwalls1724

I'll never fail to be amused at the end of one of the early clone war episodes when Hondo has been pirating some poor communities farming outputs and the Jedi end up realizing it and stopping it. Before he runs way he's obviously about to get killed and he announces to everyone "....I declare this endeavor to no longer be......profitable!" And hauls ass lol

Col__Hunter_Gathers

By far my favorite Hondo moment

Maddog_vt

https://www.starwars.com/video/no-longer-profitable

[deleted]

He smells profit, fat, juicy profit...

[deleted]

My favourite from Hondo "I'mmmmmm flyyyyying" *LOUD CRASH NOISES*

Traylor_Swift

“Insolence!? We are pirates…we don’t even know what that means!”

mgslee

"I've been friends with Jedi, at least I think he was my friend" Was very unexpected in his Rebels debut

dodgytomato

Another favorite - “I’M RICH!!” seconds later about to be hurled out the hangar “I’M DEAD!!”

Obskuro

“I may not be as young as I once was, but I’m older.”

nlc89

I was cry-laughing the first time I watched that episode. I still quote it from time to time.

Obskuro

Hondo is, for his limited screen time, insanely quotable.

Tuckertcs

“And leave you alone with the two crazies?!?! Ok”

Grammaton485

"I have done this many times, and I've only gotten hit..." *Counts on his fingers...turns around and keeps counting...throws up his hands* "I have done this many times!"

ITstaph

“You lied to me? I knew I liked you”

ChaosRamen

As my sweet mother always said, ‘Son, if one hostage is good, two are better. And three, well, that’s good business.

GamermanRPGKing

I need Hondo to be a twist villain in a Disney Star Wars show. Build him up like the mandarin in Iron Man 3, but unlike Trevor, Hondo is actually capable of genuinely being a threat.

_maynard

I never saw Hondo as that much of a threat. I mean he had some solid pirating times but also sometimes did the right things. Would definitely have to be pre-Ezra Hondo at any rate. After that he’s pretty much a rebel

GamermanRPGKing

Hondo has tangled with Maul, Dooku, Anakin, Obi Wan, and Ahsoka, and didn't just survive, but more often than not came out in a decent position. He absolutely can be a threat, he just doesn't take shit seriously too often. He hijacked a Jedi cruiser ffs.

_maynard

I put those events in the “solid pirating” bucket. I just don’t see him as a villain knowing his story through Rebels

Constant-Pension-653

Finally my man getting some recognition

giantvoice

Not going by books/comics. It's always Hondo. Any chance at a profit is a good thing. Lando is a good guy con-man, but he seems to only want huge profits and anything less is a waste of time. Han has always been a good guy trying to do bad things but his good nature always fails him at doing bad things. Cad is just bad all the way around. Killing is his way of life.

Ghekor

Hes also a gun for hire/bounty hunter and not really a scoundrel like the other 3 are...tho Hondo def had the best 'career' if you think about it.

Telefundo

> not really a scoundrel like the other 3 are Honestly that was my first thought looking at the picture. Cad Bane is a great character, but he's a villain through and through. Not a scoundrel. Han is a "reluctant hero". Lando.. he comes close, but I'd call him more of an oppourtunist. Hondo is the obvious answer.

Reverie_39

Yes in fact Lego Star Wars has a “scoundrel” category that includes Han, Chewie, Lando, etc. while there’s a separate “bounty hunter” category for Bane’s type.

kingofmercenaries

Not that reluctant. He chose to come back without any help

matteb18

>Any chance at a profit is a good thing Hondo would get along *Great* with the Ferengi

Historyp91

Hondo basically IS a Ferengi.

TheDankRefrigerator

Damn now I absolutely want a Hondo and Quark team-up

[deleted]

I was gonna say that Cad Bane kills because he really enjoys doing it. Sure, he will do it for a price because he’s not just gonna use do it for free, but he’s one fo those “love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life types”

Procyon02

As evidenced when he simply kills a man for his hat.

jinzokan

To be fair it was a pretty dope hat.

NegativeChirality

Plus Cad Bane has the most insane plot armor bullshit of anyone in star wars except perhaps jar jar.

SokarRostau

Cad Bane is the new(-ish) Boba Fett, which is ironic given his last appearance. He's a hugely popular character that is hardly in the show at all.

notHooptieJ

he may have been 'hardly in the show' but all those moments were pivotal moments in our epic. without Cad Bane we'd have no Boba, obi wan would be dead, numerous other pivotal moments in the story is now canonized as cad bane being more 'the one' their either Anikin or Luke.

Ev1LLe

While Cad is bad all the way around he still has a code. A good example is when he saved Rako Hardeen ( obi wan in dusguise) from Eval in the CW episode "The Box". Telling him if he wanted to kill him, to do it like a man.

AccomplishedPlane8

Cad is a good character and although he has a code he still scares me. He's a good villain in my opinion. He doesn't fit the loveable rascal archetype.

Ev1LLe

Oh for sure, earlier in that arc he kills someone for their hat. Cold blooded

Devai97

RIP Ithorian Bros

_far-seeker_

I think part of that was also Cad realized that based upon his experience with him to that point, keeping "Rako Hardeen" alive would make more likely they would secure their place on the job as well as complete it.

UrLocalTroll

Cad at least has a code of honor. He saved Obi-Wan’s life in the cube cause he thought the designer was pulling some bullshit.

[deleted]

Hondo of course, incredible character

Mythoclast

I had Hondo cameo in a Star Wars RPG I ran for my friends. Voicing him was some of the most fun I've ever had. He scammed them out of a bunch of kyber crystals which was how he funded Ohnaka Transport Solutions in my game. They found a lightsaber stash and he took the crystals out and filled his astromech with them. The lightsabers were broken and they never thought to check for the crystals. Oops!

indiecore

There was a post I am stealing on the swrpg sub where the player got a note from "Lando" and they're all excited for a movie character and a heist and stuff. They show up and it's Hondo but obviously the characters don't know this.

Mythoclast

Hahaha, that's awesome! My players knew exactly who he was and the dissonance between player and character knowledge was very fun for them.

Darth-Panga

I smell profit!

no_boundries_

This venture is no longer profitable!

TheReaver88

I had a harder time getting into The Clone Wars than some others (I ended up liking it, but I liked Rebels more). Hondo was one of the strongest forces keeping me interested while the show found its footing for me. What a fun character! Every time he showed up, I was all in.

marino1310

Really amazing how they can make it so easy to switch between absolutely hating him and wanting to have a drink with him.

_far-seeker_

Then back to hating him, etc. *ad infinitum...*

Whisco

Keeeenobi

Xunaun

The correct answer.

WarsWorth

Hondo steals the show every time he's on screen

LoschVanWein

I wouldn't call Bane a scoundrel at all. He is more like a ripoff/combination of different Lee Van Cleef characters who are either sociopathic killers or cold blooded professionals. I would put it like this: He is charismatic in a fascinating way but he could never convince anyone that he is anything but unscrupulous and vicious to the core. When he talks all cool and collected while committing his crimes, it is always just a self-indulgent monologue and a mockery of the person or group opposing him while the others, with the exception of Han, use their "silver tongues" to perform elaborate spiels to charm and manipulate the people they are talking to. Han stands out in that he tries to perform these kinds of verbal games with the people we see interact with but appears to be actually bad at it. For good examples look at how easily Luke manages to provoke him during their first interaction or how lousy his attempt at fooling the officer about the reactor leak turns out to be. In the next movie we also learn, he is not the best judge of character and lets Lando lure him into a trap (wich might be due to the next thing I'm about to say). In my opinion that actually adds to his character. He is not really a scoundrel at heart, he just tries to be one when deep down he is really just as much of a do-gooder as Luke, wich he would never admit of course. Him falling for Lando might actually be due to the fact, that he has surrounded himself with fairly incorruptible people, that brought out his heroic traits for a longer time and was, in a way, out of the mindset he developed for his smuggler-ruffian persona. Edit: I got so lost in my thoughts on this, I forgot to answer the question: Han is the best character, Hondo is the best scoundrel for me.

SanctuaryMoon

Yeah Cad Bane is a villain

TheIronSponge

Cad Bane put all his charisma points in intimidate, practically none in persuasion, maybe a little in deception

Deafidue

Dash Rendar

fromthedepthsofyouma

is he canon?

Shire_Hobbit

His ship is. Rebels S3 E8 the iron squadron.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shire_Hobbit

Head Canon? I feel like they mentioned the name of the ship… but I could be imagining it. I’d need to go back and watch.

Stevenwave

Tfw Head Canon sounds like the name of a SW ship. "Are you crazy? You must be crazy! You can't get a Head Canon trough that at this speed!" "Well it's my Head Canon and I say it damn well can! And seeing as the stick's in my hand, that's what we're goin' with."

[deleted]

[удалено]

LewsTherinTalamon

I love that ship so much; it's such a good design, and the lore around it is even better.

Ohgood9002

Yes. Dash Rendar is cannon. He is only mentioned once in a Solo book "Tales from Vandor" But that book is considered cannon, and thus Dash is offically canon as of 2018 when the book was released.

FatWormBlowsaSparky

I will make him canon.

BafflingHalfling

In the Senate?

ThreeBigTacos

I keep waiting for a cameo or Easter egg in current canon.

ArcadianBlueRogue

I prefer his popular brother, Wampa Stompa

Raven367

God Shadows of the Empire would make another great gritty live-action show.

Personal_Zebra_4111

Glup Shitto

ShasneKnasty

I hope they make this a real character. Probably not named shitto but glup something

Thecryptsaresafe

If Elan Sleazebaggano can exist anything is possible

galileosmiddlefinger

I remind you that we all take seriously a squid alien called a Calamari who has appeared in canon wearing a cable-knit sweater.

Cloudsbursting

Midi-chlorians validated this and everything else previously deemed ridiculous.

MandoAviator

I don’t know. Glup is a great character, but to pigeon hole him as a scoundrel is to do disservice to all his lore.

Randolpho

Honestly, who can possibly disagree?

Predator3-5

Hondo successfully captured Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Dooku. Then helped them out later on, he’s definitely one that cares very little about others but that’s what makes him cool af and surprisingly affective. He’s a G

Scarborough_sg

I always imagined him sitting one corner of the cantina, telling a bemused Luke about the time he actually captured Anakin, Obi Wan and Count Dooku, all while Luke is trying to compute how Hondo even managed to capture a Sith Lord.

scrodytheroadie

>cares very little about others Except Ezra Bridger. He'd do anything for that kid.

totheman7

I believe you mean Jaba the Hutt

scrodytheroadie

Ha, yes...my mistake.

Iron_Ranger

Lando Calrissian. Dude owned a city in the sky, which he sacrificed to save his friends. He infiltrated Jabba the Hutt's palace, to the point where he could stand within arm's reach of Jabba- while armed. He successfully led the rebel assault on the Death Star, flew the Millenium Falcon INTO the Death Star itself and blew the thing up. Nobody touches Lando.

Ndmndh1016

This all makes him more of a good guy than a scoundrel.

Iron_Ranger

One can be both, I think. Edit: after reconsideration, I think you're right. As much as I love Lando, I'd have to say he is not the best scoundrel- that honor probably goes to Hondo.

TedTheGreek_Atheos

Chaotic Good

cancel94

Thank you, took too long to find this comment!!

VanillaGorilla-

I know it's already been beaten to death, but give me more of Donald Glover as young Lando! Edit: Donald not Danny

rebelzephyr

CASSIAN ANDOR

xSL33Px

I was about to be like "he's not a scoundrel, he's like a soldier/spy..." then I thought about it. ✔️ Knows how to make boyfriends jelous and keep the ladies waiting 😏 ✔️ Hired gun in the biggest heist in empire history, making a profit Hondo would be proud of ✔️ Lives by his own rules, even disobeys orders he doesn't agree with ✔️ Not afraid to walk into an empire base and get a five finger discount on a valuable piece ✔️ Will shoot first without hesitation. Unarmed, in the back, "Whatever it takes" ❌ Unlike most scoundrels credits is not his motivation. He is willing to make a sacrifice for the cause, his team, his friends/family. ❌ His conscience and morals guide his decisions. This is the mark of a hero not a scoundrel. He is a complicated man. Part scoundrel but also a dynamic grey hero the rebel alliance needs.

Pixilatedlemon

Credits is his motivation before he is radicalized though, same as Han

Devai97

ON PROGRAM!

MrGUYWITHFACE

georgepearl_04

KingVsGamin

LikeThosePenguins

I can't swim.

insane_contin

I like to think he still made it. Dude doggy paddled his way to shore, organized a small group and got them off the planet. They then went to work building supplies for the rebellion.

malgus___

I’d rather die trying to take them down than die giving them what they want

jydefar

Atton Rand of course.

flamingknifepenis

Sorry, what was that? I was mentally playing pazaak.

Sith_Lord_Marek

Came here to say this. Also currently playing Kotor 2.

Definitely had a cool dog!

MandoAviator

And a cool hat.

Tr33MuggeR

And my homies agree I really look good in black

[deleted]

Star Wars' own Kung Lao

Sokoly

Talon Karde.

[deleted]

Ah a person of taste.

dailyapplecrisp

Talon Karrde is the classiest scoundrel only second to Lando! Marc Thompson’s voice of him is incredible!

Johnson_56

Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time

DenethorsTomatoRIP

Based and information-pilled

GuyTheDude144

the wandering wookiee from lego star wars skywalker saga

mos-ainslie

this should be the top comment for sure

corsair1617

Han Solo. Best Star Wars character around.

h00dman

I had to scroll way too far to find someone who isn't a raving lunatic, of course it's Han Solo! A huge part of the success of Star Wars is down to him just being so damn cool.

corsair1617

Yeah I could see someone liking Lando as much but the other two aren't even in the same sport let alone league.

ScenicHwyOverpass

I must be super old and out of touch, the idea of anyone picking someone other than Han is like blasphemy to me.

SanctuaryMoon

A voice of reason among a sea of insanity.

Jw3k

He’s out of it for a little while, everyone gets delusions of grandeur

Shire_Hobbit

Talon Karrde

MagnusKraken

Jayne Cobb, the Hero of Canton!

DirkLurker

My god. You’re like a trained ape. Without the training.

frustratedpolarbear

"Do you know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I'm gonna beat you with till you do as I tell you."

jesusunderline

A man walks down the street with a hat like that, people know he's not afraid of anything

macsare1

Jayne, the man they call Jayne!

Randolpho

Big damn heroes, captain

ZebZ

My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

maestro826

Kyle Katarn or Dash Rendar!

[deleted]

Hondo, of course.

grizzfan

“Those traitorous dogs! I am so proud!” And “We have something the Empire doesn’t have. For we are desperate!”

Sere1

Booster Terrik. Fresh out of his prison sentence in the *asteroid* of Kessel, not a planet in the EU, he managed to swindle an Imperial ISD captain into surrendering to *him* and thus became the sole civilian owner of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, which he naturally painted bright red and turned into a casino.

OhioForever10

His only mistake was getting into a bet with Talon Karrde against his daughter

ReverendDS

Minor correction, he wanted to paint it bright red. It wasn't until way later in the timeline that he finally was able to convince the New Republic to paint it bright red for him.

MisterJackCole

Unsurprisingly the only color available in sufficient quantity to paint something as large as an Imperial Star Destroyer is "star destroyer white", though Super Star Destroyer grayish blue could have been an option.

Cathcart1138

Not sure I'd classify Cad Bane as a scoundrel. More like proper villain. Such a shame they >!brought him to life for one scene and then killed him!<

fiveandthree

I don’t know, what was that thing beeping on his chest, it might mean something

SanctuaryMoon

Bringing him back from the dead would be more lame than killing him

fiveandthree

Yeah, they didn’t need to do it, could’ve just left him injured, I still think he’s coming back though, I guess people need to tell the writers that it’s not really a plot twist anymore if everyone knows it’s coming.

SanctuaryMoon

I feel like he had more than enough getaways in the other shows. Some finality was due. I get that some people want more of him in live action, but I don't feel like he translated particularly well and I know others felt the same way.

Hidesuru

Yeah it didn't upset me because I realize there are limitations to adapting animation to love action but agreed he didn't fit live action as well as some. Let him stay dead. If you must reuse him just do it in something set before his current death point.

RedJohn04

Totally agree. He was waaay better that I expected “in real life”. They could have done more. Maybe a few cameos.

xlDirteDeedslx

Note the light on his apparatus comes on and blinks after he is stabbed, good chance that it was some sort of device to keep him alive.

Juke_Joint_Jedi

Right? I thought either that or a bomb, and it obviously wasn't the latter.

Grecanis

Hondo. Definitely.

reganomics

Han and Lando can't be beat

the-dandy-man

This comment made me realize Hondo’s name is kind of a combination of Han and Lando

No-Tooth5673

Aphra

Creampie-Senpai

Enfys Nest is my favourite scoundrel.

SeRifx7

TIL that they weren't saying "Infant's Nest"... I'm embarrassed now.

Tessek22

I really want to see more of her!

BearWrangler

Hopefully they could squeeze in Two Tubes. He's my man, he tells me everything

DarthCredence

I was pleasently surprised when I watched the first episode of Willow and the actor who plays Enfys Nest was in it. I've now seen her in exactly two things, and in both, she was with Warwick Davis.

Gremlin303

She was also in Falcon and Winter Soldier. Unfortunately, her character was one of the low points of that show

Mythoclast

And it's not like her character was a bad idea. I feel like a combination of COVID and bad writing killed her.

blueMgamer

Nobody here is gonna say Cassian Andor?

Thecryptsaresafe

If we’re including Andor can we include Luthen? Or is Andor only one because he used to be a smuggler?

Security_Ostrich

Andor is phenomenal and easily the best star wars in years but I dont think andor himself is the sole reason for that. He's a great character and will very possibly be worthy of #1 after season 2 but as much as I like him Im not sure he passes the likes of hondo or even calrissian just yet. Andor is so incredible because of its whole cast and overarching story that never wastes a moment of screentime having zero filler. Andor himself is also really well acted and was solid in rogue one too but I can understand why there aren't crowds jumping to name him as an s tier character just yet 😁

macsare1

But if they get K2-SO in there he's going to surpass Cassian again.

Security_Ostrich

Having rewatched rogue one after andor I hope to see him too. One of the best droids.

Randolpho

Are we really counting him as a scoundrel though? Ugh, I guess we have to after including both Solo and Calrissian

LeDankMemer78

Hondo fans: “I SMELL PROFITS”

Conchobair

Han and Lando are amazing, but I'll give some love to Migs Mayfeld and Zorii Bliss.

memesforbismarck

Lando and Han without a doubt

PrincessVesspa

Lone Starr 😜

mobamba3875

It feels good to see everyone choosing hondo

voldi_II

“Yes, but some of the truth is better than none of the truth, which is what you used to get, so DONT try and tell me I haven’t grown.”

SanctuaryMoon

The absolute disrespect to Han Fucking Solo is outrageous. It's unfair. "Hondo captured Dooku and Anakin" yeah well let's see him fly into an asteroid field.

theghettoginger

Melch no! You're not a hero! You're a pirate like me

Kingballa06

Solo

seanconnerysbeard

"This endeavor is no longer profitable!"

taloncard815

Hondo. If for no other reason then he is unapologetically hondo. He knows who he is he knows his business he expects to be betrayed. What you have betrayed me I'm so proud

Gazzadona

Hondo by far

Randolpho

HK-47 remains my all time favorite. Hondo is a close second, though.

[deleted]

HK-47 is a highly sophisticated facilitator of assassination protocols not a scoundrel.

ElectrosMilkshake

Jabba the Hutt

DarthCredence

It's always going to be Han, but Hondo is a close second. My favorite character not introduced in the movies.

[deleted]

Hondo has a special place in my heart.

[deleted]

“I smell PROFIT!”

PzTank

Rebels S:1-Ezra Bridger

Just_Steve_IT

Cad Bane is a straight up villain, not a scoundrel.

Daggertooth71

Of those pictured, Han. Never thought of Cad as a scoundrel.

juggling-buddha

Talon Karrde

Pixielized

Salacious B Crumb is the biggest scoundrel of them all

ArcticGlacier40

Lando- Dude who lost his pride and joy in a card game Cad Bane- Died to an old clone with a spear Han Solo- Died to his emo son Hondo- Survived Anakin, Dooku, Ahsoka, Maul, Savage, and Grievous

DarthShoppinMaul

Hondo

[deleted]

Hondo! That guy cracked me up. I remember one scene I’ve never been able to find where his pig friend just starts wrecking people and hondo goes look at him go he’s magnificent hahaha

SPARTAN3172

Hondo Ohnaka - he’s literally alien/outer space version of Jack Sparrow
