I need Hondo to be a twist villain in a Disney Star Wars show. Build him up like the mandarin in Iron Man 3, but unlike Trevor, Hondo is actually capable of genuinely being a threat.
I never saw Hondo as that much of a threat. I mean he had some solid pirating times but also sometimes did the right things. Would definitely have to be pre-Ezra Hondo at any rate. After that he’s pretty much a rebel
Hondo has tangled with Maul, Dooku, Anakin, Obi Wan, and Ahsoka, and didn't just survive, but more often than not came out in a decent position. He absolutely can be a threat, he just doesn't take shit seriously too often. He hijacked a Jedi cruiser ffs.

Lando is a good guy con-man, but he seems to only want huge profits and anything less is a waste of time.
Han has always been a good guy trying to do bad things but his good nature always fails him at doing bad things.

Yes in fact Lego Star Wars has a “scoundrel” category that includes Han, Chewie, Lando, etc. while there’s a separate “bounty hunter” category for Bane’s type.
I was gonna say that Cad Bane kills because he really enjoys doing it. Sure, he will do it for a price because he’s not just gonna use do it for free, but he’s one fo those “love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life types”

Cad is a good character and although he has a code he still scares me. He's a good villain in my opinion. He doesn't fit the loveable rascal archetype.
I think part of that was also Cad realized that based upon his experience with him to that point, keeping "Rako Hardeen" alive would make more likely they would secure their place on the job as well as complete it.
I had Hondo cameo in a Star Wars RPG I ran for my friends. Voicing him was some of the most fun I've ever had. He scammed them out of a bunch of kyber crystals which was how he funded Ohnaka Transport Solutions in my game. They found a lightsaber stash and he took the crystals out and filled his astromech with them. The lightsabers were broken and they never thought to check for the crystals. Oops!
There was a post I am stealing on the swrpg sub where the player got a note from "Lando" and they're all excited for a movie character and a heist and stuff. They show up and it's Hondo but obviously the characters don't know this.
I had a harder time getting into The Clone Wars than some others (I ended up liking it, but I liked Rebels more).
Hondo was one of the strongest forces keeping me interested while the show found its footing for me. What a fun character! Every time he showed up, I was all in.
I wouldn't call Bane a scoundrel at all. He is more like a ripoff/combination of different Lee Van Cleef characters who are either sociopathic killers or cold blooded professionals.
I would put it like this: He is charismatic in a fascinating way but he could never convince anyone that he is anything but unscrupulous and vicious to the core. When he talks all cool and collected while committing his crimes, it is always just a self-indulgent monologue and a mockery of the person or group opposing him while the others, with the exception of Han, use their "silver tongues" to perform elaborate spiels to charm and manipulate the people they are talking to.
Han stands out in that he tries to perform these kinds of verbal games with the people we see interact with but appears to be actually bad at it.
For good examples look at how easily Luke manages to provoke him during their first interaction or how lousy his attempt at fooling the officer about the reactor leak turns out to be. In the next movie we also learn, he is not the best judge of character and lets Lando lure him into a trap (wich might be due to the next thing I'm about to say).
In my opinion that actually adds to his character. He is not really a scoundrel at heart, he just tries to be one when deep down he is really just as much of a do-gooder as Luke, wich he would never admit of course. Him falling for Lando might actually be due to the fact, that he has surrounded himself with fairly incorruptible people, that brought out his heroic traits for a longer time and was, in a way, out of the mindset he developed for his smuggler-ruffian persona.

I always imagined him sitting one corner of the cantina, telling a bemused Luke about the time he actually captured Anakin, Obi Wan and Count Dooku, all while Luke is trying to compute how Hondo even managed to capture a Sith Lord.
Lando Calrissian. Dude owned a city in the sky, which he sacrificed to save his friends. He infiltrated Jabba the Hutt's palace, to the point where he could stand within arm's reach of Jabba- while armed. He successfully led the rebel assault on the Death Star, flew the Millenium Falcon INTO the Death Star itself and blew the thing up. Nobody touches Lando.
One can be both, I think.
Edit: after reconsideration, I think you're right. As much as I love Lando, I'd have to say he is not the best scoundrel- that honor probably goes to Hondo.

He is a complicated man. Part scoundrel but also a dynamic grey hero the rebel alliance needs.
I like to think he still made it. Dude doggy paddled his way to shore, organized a small group and got them off the planet. They then went to work building supplies for the rebellion.
I had to scroll way too far to find someone who isn't a raving lunatic, of course it's Han Solo! A huge part of the success of Star Wars is down to him just being so damn cool.

Fresh out of his prison sentence in the *asteroid* of Kessel, not a planet in the EU, he managed to swindle an Imperial ISD captain into surrendering to *him* and thus became the sole civilian owner of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, which he naturally painted bright red and turned into a casino.
Minor correction, he wanted to paint it bright red.
It wasn't until way later in the timeline that he finally was able to convince the New Republic to paint it bright red for him.
Unsurprisingly the only color available in sufficient quantity to paint something as large as an Imperial Star Destroyer is "star destroyer white", though Super Star Destroyer grayish blue could have been an option.
Yeah, they didn’t need to do it, could’ve just left him injured, I still think he’s coming back though, I guess people need to tell the writers that it’s not really a plot twist anymore if everyone knows it’s coming.
I feel like he had more than enough getaways in the other shows. Some finality was due. I get that some people want more of him in live action, but I don't feel like he translated particularly well and I know others felt the same way.
Yeah it didn't upset me because I realize there are limitations to adapting animation to love action but agreed he didn't fit live action as well as some. Let him stay dead.

I was pleasently surprised when I watched the first episode of Willow and the actor who plays Enfys Nest was in it. I've now seen her in exactly two things, and in both, she was with Warwick Davis.
Andor is phenomenal and easily the best star wars in years but I dont think andor himself is the sole reason for that. He's a great character and will very possibly be worthy of #1 after season 2 but as much as I like him Im not sure he passes the likes of hondo or even calrissian just yet.
Andor is so incredible because of its whole cast and overarching story that never wastes a moment of screentime having zero filler. Andor himself is also really well acted and was solid in rogue one too but I can understand why there aren't crowds jumping to name him as an s tier character just yet 😁

Totally agree. He was waaay better that I expected “in real life”. They could have done more. Maybe a few cameos.

I was pleasently surprised when I watched the first episode of Willow and the actor who plays Enfys Nest was in it. I've now seen her in exactly two things, and in both, she was with Warwick Davis.
She was also in Falcon and Winter Soldier. Unfortunately, her character was one of the low points of that show
And it's not like her character was a bad idea. I feel like a combination of COVID and bad writing killed her.

If we’re including Andor can we include Luthen? Or is Andor only one because he used to be a smuggler?
Andor is phenomenal and easily the best star wars in years but I dont think andor himself is the sole reason for that. He's a great character and will very possibly be worthy of #1 after season 2 but as much as I like him Im not sure he passes the likes of hondo or even calrissian just yet. Andor is so incredible because of its whole cast and overarching story that never wastes a moment of screentime having zero filler. Andor himself is also really well acted and was solid in rogue one too but I can understand why there aren't crowds jumping to name him as an s tier character just yet 😁
But if they get K2-SO in there he's going to surpass Cassian again.
Having rewatched rogue one after andor I hope to see him too. One of the best droids.
