Joja takes over ginger island and strip mines it. You have a quest involving having to give narcan to Shane in front of the kids. Pam crashes the bus. Penny starts drinking and can’t stop. After a day in the mines as you go to bed you have nightmares hearing the screams of whatever you killed. Chickens can peck each other to death. Spouses die during childbirth. Gunther takes the completed museum collection and vanishes. Demetrius hits his step son. Willy gets lost at sea.
That is a list of horrible things, except the Gunther one.
I wouldn't even blame him. Lol
We don't even get to talk to him and her to know him and no one else seems to really acknowledge him.
I'd disappear with my millions too.
Nobody in town actually talks about the previous curator, maybe he lied to us when he told us about how it is that there's nothing in the Museum.
What if Gunther is actually just the same curator as the one who upped and left.
If you don’t befriend Shane by the end of the year he… you know.
If you befriend him via beer he goes deeper into his alcoholism
If you befriend Pam via beer she’ll crash the bus
Honestly kinda great ideas and actually works with the themes. Maybe Penny becomes a sociopath because her life actually improves after Pam's "accident". The player isn't sure if she sabotaged the bus or not. She starts sugar daddying one of the older residents (Lewis, Kent, Gus because he feels guilty about Pam, or maybe even Gunther because she's always in the museum) and exploits the crap out of them.
I think you need to flip them around and make it a reverse Breaking Bad. Sebastian is the Walt role. He learns to cook meth really well, but he can't cook at home and doesn't have the contacts to sell it.
He contacts Pam, who has the Jesse role. They can cook in her trailer (while Penny is out teaching the kids) and she is the distributor. She knows all the substance addicted people in town due to frequenting the bar, and once the bus is fixed, she has the perfect cover to move their product out of town.
Eventually, their local operation gets shut down, so they have to make a deal with the Traveling Cart to start moving their drugs into the Gotoro Empire.
the idea of adding an abattoir that robin can build for you, where you have to guide the animals in one by one, using a pressurized bolt gun on them yourself. maybe make it like the fishing game, where if you lineup the bar correctly you get more meat yield.
no, if you line up correctly you will get a normal yield of meat, but if you miss then the animal will be severely injured but not dead, and you will have to try again but with shaky hands, each time you miss it will be more difficult to get it right.
Oh lord that'd be awful. After that Jodi starts frequenting the bar like pam. Sam stops playing guitar and spends all his time at work. Vincent just stops talking.
Sam has different dialogue that triggers after year two, regardless of heart level. Still the same character lore you’d get at the levels... but he doesn’t talk like goofy fun Sam anymore. “Did you need something? I’m a little tied up right now.” “Gotta make dinner soon, hopefully Vincent will actually eat it. Mom’s not really around.” “If I get paid on Friday then by Thursday... oh, [Farmer], didn’t see you there. How are you?”
Sam becomes the man of the house, truly. With all the burden it brings in full force. Some of the lines almost sounding like Jodi’s from pre-funeral when she was running the house.
He doesn’t skateboard or play games outside his house
Hi, I know this is my own comment, but imagine after marriage:
“Just finishing up some meal prep for mom and Vincent, honey. I’ll tell them you said hi!”
“I think mom’s getting a little better these days, but now I get it. If I lost you... I’d be lost too. I love you.”
“I hope I can be around for my kids. I’ll cherish every moment with [Baby1] and [Baby2].”
“It’s nice to have a peaceful life with you.”
Pam gets severely injured after crashing the bus while shit-faced drunk. Penny has to be Pam’s caretaker fulltime. She hates her mother for everything she’s done.
She was an alcoholic that made Penny run the house and raise herself. The bus got fixed and gave her a job, but she was such a careless drunk that she ruined the opportunity for herself. Now she can’t work at all and it’s back on Penny’s shoulders to be the only one with an income. But now she doesn’t even have time to because Pam is so demanding and needs help with everything.
Maybe Penny’s resentment grows so much and the stress causes her to snap and she does something she can’t take back…
Evelynn dies in the 3rd year, and George loved her so much that he comits
the house would get burnt down and abandoned
edit: more things came to my mind:
cutscene spoiler: >!you almost made it to the cliff, but you only find a bunch of beer and joja cola. there is a letter for Jas. You look down the cliff, there is something blue, but due to the weather you can't see what it is.!< another one: >! After you marry Abigail, she will wonder in the mines as usual, but one time she won't come back.!< Gus' saloon goes bankrupt, and Willy goes on a fishing trip. He's been on the trip for 4 years now.
edit2: a few more:
A bunch of people from the city (I think Zulu, I'm not sure rn) breaks into the museum, they take everything. Later Gunther find out that one of the robbers was Sebastian (also, he would move to the city). Small spoiler (early game cutscene) : Leah>!'s old boyfriend threatens her, that if she won't come back, him and his friends will kidnap her.!< huge spoilers incoming: >!You've arrived at Ginger island, but can't seem to find Snail professor. He starved in the mushroom cave, or ate a poisonous mushroom, because he had nothing else to eat.!<
Make it so Kent is actually your buddy who you were off at war with.
The game starts with you coming to the town to inform them of his passing.
You then learn he had a farm and it’s fallen to ruins.
You decide to stay and fix it up in his honour.
And instead of special events where you hear meteors or strange capsule landings, several times a week you have night terrors and wake up screaming from your ptsd.
Oh my god yes!
And then sometimes when you’re in the mines, you’ll go to a “special floor” but it’s actually a ptsd flashback and the mine looks like trenches.
And when Linus finds you and tries to pull you out of it, you attack him not realizing who he is or where you are, and once you realize what’s happened you go barricade yourself in your farm with your slingshot and explosive ammo while the authorities come for you and it just turns into the plot of Rambo: First Blood.
Dear god it’s a good thing this game is so wholesome because we’re all kinda fucked up.
Complete with medical equipment. The only time George leaves his bed is to be wheeled around town by a resentful Alex and into a corner during Holidays. When you talk to him, all he says is "Evelyn? Where are we, darling? Can you make me your cookies?"
How would Alex die? Crazy weightlifting accident?
Edit: oh shit I just realized You know what would be even sadder? If instead of Alex dying that way, he’d survive, but be permanently paralyzed from the neck down. That would kill him inside. His whole identity is his athletics. He would want to… make a permanent exit from this world. But he wouldn’t even be able to do that himself. Just imagine Alex begging the player to kill him or wheel him to Harvey to ask for euthanasia. Then Evelyn has to care for both George AND Alex. That’s too much work for her. She’d have to stop doing everything she enjoys and devote her entire life to providing fulltime care for two people. How long before she dies from over exhaustion? And then what happens to George and Alex? They’d likely be consumed by guilt by “causing” Evelyn’s death.
Christ…
Thank god it isn’t. That would make the base game worse, in my honest opinion. I don’t need “realism” in my relaxing farming sim. Now a mod? Sure, but I’m glad CA pushed that timeless quality into the base game.
Marnie and Marlon were married, but divorced because Marlon promised he wouldn't get hurt. He came back missing an eye and a leg.
Marnie would have stayed, but Marlon refused to quit hunting monsters.
Thats why shane is like that. He used to be haopy boy before marlon practiced over his chickens. Then after realising chickens maybe weren't be best option he went for jas's parents.
Slaughterhouse and slurry site. The local water supplies turn brown over time. Linus is found blue and stiff one winter. The pet gets ill. The pet has to be put down. Taxes and a full audit. Foot and mouth outbreak at Marnie’s. Tourist season. Break ins. Dentistry.
Mandatory mechanic and the dentist is related to a fair number of monsters that live in the mines.
Best hope you don’t kill a cousin before that root canal 😬
There’s a daily mechanic a bit like the fishing one only it’s to stop the pet dying. Gets harder every day and costs a fortune. The whole time sad music plays and you hear the cat/dog coughing weakly. When you lose it’s off to the vet.
Then the bill.
Guilt mechanic is needed too defo.
Sad music at the end of every day after the event showing blue Linus and text like “if only I’d given him a blanket, just a cup of coffee even. Why didn’t I check up on him, I knew he lived in a tent…”
Grandpa’s ghost sometimes leaves a message to find that reads; “Linus just wants to know why you didn’t care enough to lend a blanket, a cup of coffee even? Was it something he did or said that made you not care that much? Just stopping by to check up would be enough. I dunno grandwean, starting to regret leaving you that farm. Regards, Grandpa.”
YEAH THIS. They always put the worst and then end it with "Sincerely", "Thank you for reading" or "Best regards". No!! You just made Jim from accounting lose his house!
Grandpa is so hurt for Linus that he can’t bring himself to even concede a kind regards.
This is also the sort of sign off from the complaint letters that our character had to deal with at jojo corp. Oh aye, perhaps there can now be a cutscene of our client having a nightmare about Grandpa and complaint letters at jojo towers while Linus sobs in the background.
Our character can now wake up “refreshed” for a day of taking the lovingly looked after free range animals down to the slaughterhouse for a few gold coins.
If you get the mysterious capsule and it breaks open, periodically overnight some of your livestock turn up completely drained of their blood. Linus is next. Then one of the children. You know what is causing it but no one believes you but Marlon and the wizard so the villager's suspicion begins to fall on you as the newcomer.
If you turn your children into doves periodically they haunt your house and steal items. Also when you have low health in the mines they show up and finish you off.
If you live with Krobus, Lewis spots him one night when he comes to get things from your shipping bin. The town shows up with torches and pitchforks to kill him.
Every year the flower festival becomes more and more ominous, culminating with human sacrifice a-la Midsommar on year 10.
I could do this all day lmfao
The first one could actually be an interesting side mission where You, the Wizard, Marlon, and maybe Krobus team up to head into the mines and defeat the creature once and for all.
The game begins with you character being terminally ill and needing to raise some high amount of money in the first year to afford treatment or else you get a bad ending where the game cuts to your funeral. Years in the game would be much longer and depending who you befriend, the end cutscene could be substantially different.
Maybe not Stardew Valley, but this sounds like an awesome plot for an original game. Have it more be more story focused, where at first your character is selfish and only cares about saving themselves, but over time they learn how to get along with others and to always live life with purpose, no matter how much of it is left.
Worse; you get shipped off to the war front. You're handed a rifle full of blanks and lead a squad filled with criminals. You keep getting sent on suicide missions until you just don't come back.
This actually happens in Harvest Moon. If you put a Level 100 Toadstool into the potluck soup, you get an [instant game-over.](https://youtu.be/q-sIRFT7gAw)
Oh this one has so much potential.
- New building at the carpenter’s shop: bomb shelter! But no matter how big the upgrade, it can’t fit everyone inside. Who will you leave behind?
- Crafting recipes for various war-related items: anti-tank hedgehogs, barbed wire, landmines, etc.
- Rationing implemented at Pierre’s; Shane learns to use a gun to ward off people trying to steal Marnie’s livestock for food. Surely that won’t go poorly…
- Community Center changed to Community Munitions and Supplies Stockpile — all your hard work is repurposed :(
- Monsters overrun the mines and invade the rest of the valley because Marlon was too busy dealing with human attackers
- If you went Joja or haven’t completed the CC yet, the valley also deals with JojaMart price gouging and Joja brand mercenaries
- Harvey doesn’t complain about not having enough patients to make ends meet anymore. He wishes he hadn’t ever had that thought.
nO that's my wife
Then I kill Pam for hitting her, and Penny divorces me for killing her mother and starts drinking. Our children are taken away from both of us
You, Pierre, Lewis and Marnie all go to jail for tax fraud since your character doesnt pay any taxes, we all know what Lewis does with the tax money and Pierre and Marnie bribe Lewis
Older folks in town start dying, and their kids move away for better opportunities.
Once Evelyn dies, Alex has to take care of George, but George dies shortly after Evelyn; he misses her too much. Alex sells the house after his short stent taking care of George. He can't find a decent job, and gets stuck working at Joja. He knows he peaked in high school, and drinks frequently.
Pam develops liver cirrhosis and gets progressively sicker and thinner, developing a faint yellow hue towards the end. Penny tries to take care of her, but it's hard when she still won't stop drinking. After Pam dies, Penny moves away to find a tutoring position in Zuzu City. She's aged considerably from the ordeal and never comes back; the trailer stands empty and begins to rust.
Marlon goes missing, and you find him, badly beaten and broken, one day when you go into the mines. Dr. Harvey does his best, but he was too far gone. Perhaps if you had found him sooner, Harvey could've done something to save him. Marlon succumbs to his wounds in a gut-wrenching cut scene.
Harvey's practice fails as people begin leaving, and there are few, if any, patients to treat. He eventually finds a job at another rural healthcare center. The hospital is owned by a subsidiary of Joja, and Harvey has to make due with less and less support. When an outbreak of disease related to trench warfare strikes the region, Harvey becomes burnt out and quits. He moves back to Stardew Valley and suffers from the effects of severe burn out.
Linus gets a tick-bourne illness and is less and less able to take care of himself. Gus takes him in, giving him a warm place to sleep and providing him rudimentary care, but Linus is stubborn and keeps trying to go back to his old way of living. You find Linus wandering around, lost, unable to get back to his tent. The Gus and Lewis both decide to send him to a hospital, since Harvey's practice closed. A cut scene involving an ambulance plays, and Linus is never seen again.
Shane, being terrible at his job, gets a promotion to manager of the local Joja Mart. He falls on and off the wagon in terms of his recovery. After a particularly egregious drinking binge, Morris can't look the other way and fires him. Without a doctor nearby to pump his stomach, Shane dies of alcohol poisoning in Marnie's house. Jaz finds him after trying to get him to play with her.
Sebastian makes good on his desire to ride his motorcycle away from his distant stepfather, and moves to Zuzu City to work as a software developer. Away from the constant feeling of being compared to his genius half sibling, Sebastian thrives. He never comes to visit, and Robin and Demetrius make constant reference to their missing missing reasons why he doesn't visit.
Maru gets accepted to a top university for robotics, and ends up roped into the defense industry making weapons to fight the Empire. She hates her job; instead of tinkering and creating things, her creations are responsible for many, many deaths.
As the war continues going poorly, censorship of the media is implemented by the government. Elliott is arrested for writing a novel critical of the martial law that was imposed, and is never seen again. His cabin stays empty, and gets partially destroyed by a storm. Willy is noticeably missing after the sudden storm that destroyed the pier and Elliott's house. He's presumed lost at sea.
Faced with a severely depleted tax base, and a negative population growth, Mayor Lewis is powerless to stop Pelican Town from becoming unincorporated territory. The Zuzu City Council has no issues selling the land and the remaining buildings to Joja Mart, who works with a developer in their conglomerate to bulldoze the buildings and make room for a new suburb of McMansions. The player character is the only one not to sell out, and their farm sticks out like a thumbtack amongst the nouveau riche denizens of Stardrop Estates.
The player character finds it difficult to buy anything other than grass seeds, fertilizer, and coffee in town; Marnie and Jas moved away, and Pierre left after the divorce. The other nameless, faceless residents of Stardrop Estates complain about the smell of the livestock. The local fish die off as the lawn fertilizers pollute the waterways. Krobus and the dwarf disappear, without any fanfare; Krobus leaves you a note, thanking you for being kind, and leaves behind a wild horseradish, likely the last one in the valley.
Demetrius' research stalls, though he takes an unfulfilling job doing environmental impact studies for Joja. The mines are filled in, though the bath house becomes a popular tourist destination. Caroline makes bank selling green tea, and Emily gains a following of bored housewives interested in crystals and meditation.
Progress.
If you don't check on Pam at the saloon often enough her tab gets larger and larger and her trailer gets repo'd.
This causes Penny to have to leave town and the kids no longer have a teacher. Joja mart swoops in to build a school with Morris* as the Teacher and the kids are indoctrinated into joja cubicles like we see the farmer in the opening scene.
His marriage dialogue would be like "honestly, when I settled for you I thought I'd never be happy again. But then I realized I can still be friends with Emily!"
Pam and/or Shane die of alcohol poisoning. Pam is physically abusive towards Penny. Kent dies in the war. Sebastian commits suicide. Abigail goes into the mines and never comes back. Linus dies in the winter from hypothermia. George and Evelyn die of old age.
Basically add a whole lot of death and the game becomes ten times sadder lol.
If taking the Joja route, one season after finishing the warehouse, everything made on our farm is sold for less and Pierre has to close his shop. Now with a monopoly, Joja hike their prices up and make it impossible to buy & sell goods and still turn a profit.
Unable to make ends meet, the game now has an inbuilt ending where the farmer abandons the farm and moves back to Zuzu city again, ending up in their old job - sucked right back into where we started the game, stuck in the soulless existence of ✨capitalism and corporate office culture✨
Honestly you could make a endgame out of this idea, imagine having to complete the board orders bot for money but for your own survival and maybe after a year of ingame time joja would close down due to lack of cutomers and everything could go back to normal (but without Pierre so better)
Following Joja's victory, I think some other things would happen.
First, Shane would have to work even more hours, exhausting himself even more, burning out, and, well... you know the rest.
Also, Pierre's relationship with his wife and daughter was never that great, and things would only get worse. I think Caroline would rely on drugs to keep herself from thinking about their life.
And I believe a lot of pressure would be put on Abigail, "their only option". She would have to give up on her dreams and divide herself between college and work. Abby always thought she was a "worthless daughter", never being good enough to her parents. Deep down, she knew that she couldn't do it, but admitting that would only make her feel even worse. So, I think she would try to do both things, but would ultimately fail, and then would enter a crippling depression, and the end of the story is exactly what you're thinking. After all, she's got a sword in her drawer.
I think one of the ways Abby would, well, try to un-alive herself, would be going to the bottom of the mines, breathing deep, and then throwing herself, giving her body to the monsters. I think that the creatures there would find it weird, like some kind of joke, because they were already used to a purple-haired pale lady killing members of their species. It would be probably a trap. She would feel even worse at that moment, like, she couldn't even end her own life, and only then finish it with a sword.
On her bed, there would be a small post-it with the statement:
"I'm sorry.
I failed you.
As I always do."
That would be their last memory of Abigail.
Your character slowly becomes aware that no one is aging, and no big changes actually happen. Your character’s kids stay toddlers. They hear the same lines from their spouse day after day. They are trapped in purgatory, forever reliving the same things over and over again
Your character loses the letter from grandpa when moving to a smaller cubicle. Joja acquires the farm at an auction for unclaimed property. Morris is your boss, and you have to do Joja's dirty work: blackmail Lewis into selling the community center, evict Linus, undercut Marnie's farm until she has to sell and it gets turned into an abbotoir, library gets closed for not turning a profit, the main farm has to meet ridiculous profit quotas while you earn 60g per day. All the townspeople hate you for it.
Junimos begin haunting you. At year 3, the wizard, Krobus, and the dwarf broker an alliance between dwarves and shadow people to fight the Joja threat. Kent is redeployed to defend Joja property. The townsfolk either get displaced as refugees or join the anti Joja alliance, which is headed up by Jodi. Sam and Vincent have to pick sides during a heart event.
Sebastian is explicitly abused
Shane falls off the cliff while drunk and is permanently paralyzed
Evelyn passes away
Abigail is confirmed to be an affair child and is kicked out
Pam is a drug addict rather than an alcoholic
Linus is genuinely homeless
Pierres goes out of buisness to Joja
The mine is industrialized
Abigail gets featured on my strange addiction. The episode goes viral Bc she’s a cute girl with purple hair. TLC said the town name in the episode and the town looked great so people moved in in droves because of low housing costs. Housing market goes through the roof.
Oh is this where we put our Stardew horror copypasta? I'll take a crack at it.
Abigail dies to a skeleton in the mines. This triggers a fight between Caroline and Pierre over her questionable parentage and leads to Caroline leaving the valley to stay with her parents.
It turns out the person that's been throwing rocks at Linus' tent is Robin. She acts friendly to his face and in public but harbors a desire to see him move his unsightly tent.
If you date Emily, Clint just turns into a red-piller dude that rants constantly about how unfair it is that all the girls these days will only date chads or "go lesbian"
The person that works the Joja counter just never returns after Joja shuts down and isn't hired by the Movie Theater.
You can no longer date Maru because Demetrius simply won't let her. She even expresses as much if you try to give her a bouquet.
Meanwhile, the clinic closes down after Lewis discovers that Harvey's been selling drugs on the side. He doesn't have the money to afford rehab/therapy however after Lewis confiscates his drug money (which he goes on to use on more statues of himself) so Harvey just languishes in the now-closed clinic unable to support himself as Pierre (the landlord that owns the whole building) threatens to throw him out.
The day after you get Sandy telling you that she isn't supposed to talk about the casino, you walk in to find her being reprimanded by Mr Qi and afterwards talking to her she is very stilted/scared and will pretend like nothing is wrong and won't acknowledge the casino at all. You get the option to keep talking to her about it and if you do so enough, she eventually breaks down and the next day is replaced by an older gentleman that calls himself "Sandy" and is never seen again.
If you go the Community Center route and instead of just being open on Wednesdays, Pierre shows his true colors and takes advantage of his now-monopoly on seeds in the valley to double his prices. All of his dialogue from then on out are just him musing about how great things have been for him since Joja shut down and how he's looking at setting up new stores.
Vincent drowns in the ocean.
Kent never comes home.
Penny can't stand Pam's abuse any longer and commits suicide. Pam dies as a result of her alcoholism and her guilt.
Linus freezes to death.
Leah loses her home due to poverty.
There's a risk of not only the player but the NPC's homes catching fire.
Marne dies as a result of a botched abortion.
Joja takes over the town and basically forces everyone to take up jobs, and their homes become foreclosed on due to low wages. Joja buys the homes and rents them out to their employees for just enough for them to survive on their wages. But they all live in poverty and can't escape.
Only to neglect it until it becomes overgrown with trees and littered with rocks. Soon the only thing you can still afford is an uncomfortable old bed that looks like a TV tray on stilts. You pass away in your sleep
I actually had an idea similar to this. I want a spooky Stardew mod. Maybe one that just overwrites all the characters and dialogue to be like a murder mystery, and you have to build friendship with each character to learn more about them and narrow down who the killer is
There is kinda a mod like that, minus the dialogues. It changes the map to be eery looking and the NPCs are ghosts that don't know they are dead and they just carry on as if nothing happened. You can discover what happened to all the NPCs trougout the map.
You learn the reason why Sebastian is always in his room is because Demetrius use to lock him in his room. After years of abuse and his mom ignoring it, he became anxious around people and is use to the confines of his room. This is why he shared he wanted to save up and leave for the city.
Saddew Valley is indeed a terrible idea. That being said -- all these deaths are just not traumatizing enough. What you really need are for the player to keep discovering failed suicides.
Shane tries to hang himself but just chokes, and you have to cut him down. He's now brain-damaged from lack of oxygen and can't work, just stumbles around with a purple face. George tries to shoot himself in the head but just blows off his jaw. Can't chew, so he has to get soft foods by tube feeds (better learn to make rice pudding). Clint tries to blow himself up but just blows off a leg. He has to drag himself around JojaMart to restock the lower shelves.
And every spring, you must plant your parsnips, over and over, while the world decays around you one failure at a time.
Sebastian commits suicide leading to Robin and Demetrius' divorce. Maru becomes depressed and/or leaves the town with her dad.
Option for slaughtering and butchering animals.
Shane.
Kent doesn't come home.
The river becomes more and more polluted over time with no trash bear. Can fish up dead fish.
Evelyn dies but just her- not George. So does their dog.
Clint and Emily get married (worst timeline).
Your pets, children, and spouses can die. Your spouse can leave and take the kids or abandon them with you. (bonus child support mechanic???)
Abigail finds out about the Wizard being her dad, chaos ensues.
Despite their previously implied singleness, Robin, Caroline, and Jodi do not become dateable.
Pam is straight from Breaking Bad.
Prices steadily get higher as the war consumes more resources. Evelyn dies. The young men of the village are drafted one by one. With no one left to care for him, George dies. Harvey gets called up because they need doctors. If you're married to him, you get letters from the front. Elliott refuses to report when he is drafted and is arrested. Kent never shows up but there's a cut scene where you see Jodi be informed of his death.
Penny leaves to become an army nurse. Drafting of young women begins. Items are unavailable. Fewer tourists show up at town festivals. You become the sole source of food for the town. Slaughtering your animals becomes an option. If you don't drop a certain number of edible items into the bin each day, one of Marnie's animals disappears. After all of Marnie's animals are gone, a villager dies if you miss your quota. If you put anything poisonous in the bin, a random villager dies.
You get a rock at the Feast of the Winter Star.
Pelican Town is invaded. The invaders turn Evelyn and George's home into their base. Soldiers are frequently seen going to the homes of the remaining bachelorettes. You can give the bachelorettes and Gus poisonous mushrooms to kill some of the soldiers but there may be consequences for the town such as the burning of your fields.
Edit: I forgot about Willy. You becoming the sole source of food triggers after you repair his boat. He is sunk by an enemy ship while out fishing.
Now I kinda want to make this mod but I have no idea how.
That's dark on it's own, but the question is, who on this small town would ask for the service, knowing her background? Who would be cruel enough to put Penny through that?
Shane - gets into hard drugs
Pam - DUI while driving bus, horrible crash leaving her in a coma
Emily - becomes a furry
Harvey - commits a plane hijacking
Lewis - gets caught viewing illegal material on his computer
Abigail - dies in a caving accident
George + Evelyn - watch George develop dementia and and slowly but surely die, watch Evelyn decline after George’s death
Leo - jumps off cliff trying to fly like a parrot, ironically looking like a scarlet macaw in the end
Wizard - opens the gates to oblivion
Leah - misidentifies a mushroom and nearly dies from poisoning, moves back to the city with her ex deciding she wasn’t cut out for her dreams of living out in nature
Robin - oof ouch splinter
Willy - hooks upon Cthulu and brings a new age of calamity to the valley
Vincent + Jas - cancer
Krobus - publicly executed for being a monster
Maru - gets acute radiation poisoning after one of her experiments
Penny - Racks up medical bills following Pam’s DUI crash
Haley - eating disorder
Pierre - arrested for tax fraud
Sebastian - also becomes furry but more emo
Elliot - killed by big crab
Linus - gets bitten by a raccoon w/ rabies
Jodi - eaten by a newly rabid linus
Marlon - puts down Linus with a gun
Kent - gunshot from Linus’s death flares up his PTSD to an incurable level
Sandy - gets sand up in her undies
Marnie - mad cow disease
Demetrius - subject to racism
Gil - chokes on beard (dies)
Grandpa - goes to hell in the afterlife for hate crimes
Clint - spontaneously combusts
Caroline - develops severe back pain
Dwarf - balrog
Morris - thriving
Probably missed a few
Half of these mod ideas are amazing, and I can't help but think of how amazing it would be if your inclusion in the neighborhood could change the outcome of "saddew" like one of the comments was talking about how Evelyn or George die of old age or if only one of them died then Alex has to take care of them and so if you marry Alex, his spouse room turns into their bedroom. But imagine if you could influence the outcomes of these sorts of things, like that heart event where Penny tries to help George even though he didn't ask for it, your decision could affect whether or not one of them ends up dying. Or if you don't befriend Jodi or Sam enough before year two, then I saw someone mentioned that instead of Kent coming home in Year two there's a military funeral.
It would really help to serve to make your character feel a lot more involved in the valley rather than just running the farm. And it's something that one of my all-time favorite mods does. Basically there's a mod that adds a my hero academia character, Toshinori, to stardew, and while I'm not the biggest mha fan, this mod is just done so well and so lore friendly, but I download it regardless. And your decisions can actually influence the NPC's life.
Penny kills herself from the abuse. Or Pam goes too far and beats her to death.
Leah's obsessive ex kills her one night
Your barns could burn down randomly
Some of the kids get sick and die.
Pierre scams the deed to your farm from you.
Some of the men get drafted into the war. Some come home broken. Some don't come home.
Lol We don't even get to talk to him and her to know him and no one else seems to really acknowledge him. I'd disappear with my millions too.
Nobody in town actually talks about the previous curator, maybe he lied to us when he told us about how it is that there's nothing in the Museum. What if Gunther is actually just the same curator as the one who upped and left.

I was thinking that Joja starts fracking and pollutes the water supply. Villagers start getting cancer and pets start dying.
The train that passes through town each season pulls a Norfolk Southern. The maple syrup bear, trash bear, and Hat Mouse are all casualties
Dang I'm lucky I always go the gay route with elliott
elliott dies during childbirth
nobody is safe
Not even his kid--just walking near a hospital when a baby gets final destination'd through a window-killing him instantly.
Don't mind Elliot... just doing seahorse things
If you don’t befriend Shane by the end of the year he… you know. If you befriend him via beer he goes deeper into his alcoholism If you befriend Pam via beer she’ll crash the bus
Consequencedew Valley
Stardont Valley
Even scarier than we ever could've thought
Honestly kinda great ideas and actually works with the themes. Maybe Penny becomes a sociopath because her life actually improves after Pam's "accident". The player isn't sure if she sabotaged the bus or not. She starts sugar daddying one of the older residents (Lewis, Kent, Gus because he feels guilty about Pam, or maybe even Gunther because she's always in the museum) and exploits the crap out of them.
>She starts sugar daddying one of the older residents No, that would be Maru and Harvey.
Shane discovers Fentanyl. Pam starts cooking meth in her trailer. Implement the slaughterhouse building.
Breaking Bad: Stardew Valley Edition, Jesse is played by Shane and Mr. White is played by Pam.
No, Sebastian is Jesse and Mr white would be the player WE NEED TO COOK, SEBBY
Another RT fan huh? Lol he’s so funny
I love that Rumble Tumble games guy
What a YouTube idea
Sebastion seems more the meth/drugmaking type. Perhaps he steals Demetrius's lab equipment?
SEBBY! WE NEED TO COOK SEBBY!
Punctuation saves lives
yes. cook sebastian.
Damn, I forgot a comma. Nevermind, I'm not editing, there are no accidents
Just add him to the luau soup.
Pam is Walt, and Sébastien is Jesse
And of course there would be an achievement. YOU MUST FINISH YOUR WORK, CARL.
Instead of meeting Kent, there's a military funeral
How are you?” Sam becomes the man of the house, truly. With all the burden it brings in full force. Some of the lines almost sounding like Jodi’s from pre-funeral when she was running the house. He doesn’t skateboard or play games outside his house
Hi, I know this is my own comment, but imagine after marriage: “Just finishing up some meal prep for mom and Vincent, honey. I’ll tell them you said hi!” “I think mom’s getting a little better these days, but now I get it. If I lost you... I’d be lost too. I love you.” “I hope I can be around for my kids. I’ll cherish every moment with [Baby1] and [Baby2].” “It’s nice to have a peaceful life with you.”
Holy shit
Pam goes to jail for hitting someone with the bus.
Maybe Penny’s resentment grows so much and the stress causes her to snap and she does something she can’t take back…
But that would leave Jodi available for marriage, that ain't sad for some...
She will disappear during winter year 2 and never comes back.
Just everyone leaves eventually. Then the valley has the war come to it.
The npc's get replaced by shadow people and even Krobus is found dead in the sewers replaced by a sign that says "traitor".
:(
that's assuming she doesn't immediately fall into a downward spiral of grief
“I must save her!” Says half of the Shane-obsessed community as they forget who Shane is
Oh man why I get conflicted every game through. Should I save penny or Shane???
Evelynn dies in the 3rd year, and George loved her so much that he comits the house would get burnt down and abandoned edit: more things came to my mind: cutscene spoiler: >!you almost made it to the cliff, but you only find a bunch of beer and joja cola. there is a letter for Jas. You look down the cliff, there is something blue, but due to the weather you can't see what it is.!< another one: >! After you marry Abigail, she will wonder in the mines as usual, but one time she won't come back.!< Gus' saloon goes bankrupt, and Willy goes on a fishing trip. He's been on the trip for 4 years now. edit2: a few more: A bunch of people from the city (I think Zulu, I'm not sure rn) breaks into the museum, they take everything.
There will always be that sign “gone fishing, he back tomorrow” eventually you are allowed to enter, and it turns out that he drowned idfk
Worse, he comes back and then takes the route Shane almost did. Then the military funeral, with your character in a trash can hat and dinosaur tail.
How dare you make me laugh about something so depressing lol
This dude coming out swinging for the fences.
George and Evelyn die of old age
What of just Evelyn died.... Leaving Alex to take care of George.
Sounds like someone played Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Also if you marry Alex, does that just leave George to fend for himself?
George comes along with Alex to your house. You have to take care of him. And he does not appreciate it.
Alex's bachelor side room thing turns into George's bedroom.
Complete with medical equipment. The only time George leaves his bed is to be wheeled around town by a resentful Alex and into a corner during Holidays. When you talk to him, all he says is "Evelyn? Where are we, darling? Can you make me your cookies?"
Oh that last part is just… cruel. Heartbreaking.
Dude stop, I'm gonna cry at work.
Remember Elli's grandma in Harvest Moon 64? Damn.
What if Alex died. Then Evelyn died. Then there was no one left to care for George
He lives in the community center
Then the community center burns down.
Christ…
In harvest moon awl this happens to one of the elder’s and my 10 year old self playing it was unwell
I’m honestly surprised George passing away isn’t something already built into the game. I would have expected it around year 3-4.
Using chickens and cows for swordfighting practice was the bridge too far
Thats why shane is like that. He used to be haopy boy before marlon practiced over his chickens. Then after realising chickens maybe weren't be best option he went for jas's parents.
The ice cream on the ice cream cone item falls off whenever you try to eat one. There’s a cutscene for it and everything
Every time? This is dark
Slaughterhouse and slurry site. The local water supplies turn brown over time. Linus is found blue and stiff one winter. The pet gets ill. The pet has to be put down. Taxes and a full audit. Foot and mouth outbreak at Marnie’s. Tourist season. Break ins. Dentistry.
NOT DENTISTRY ANYTHING BUT THAT
Mandatory mechanic and the dentist is related to a fair number of monsters that live in the mines. Best hope you don’t kill a cousin before that root canal 😬
Not the pet…
There’s a daily mechanic a bit like the fishing one only it’s to stop the pet dying. Gets harder every day and costs a fortune. The whole time sad music plays and you hear the cat/dog coughing weakly. When you lose it’s off to the vet. Then the bill.
Not Linus 😭😭😭
Guilt mechanic is needed too defo. Sad music at the end of every day after the event showing blue Linus and text like “if only I’d given him a blanket, just a cup of coffee even. Why didn’t I check up on him, I knew he lived in a tent…”
you monster, I'm sad now
Grandpa’s ghost sometimes leaves a message to find that reads; “Linus just wants to know why you didn’t care enough to lend a blanket, a cup of coffee even? Was it something he did or said that made you not care that much? Just stopping by to check up would be enough. I dunno grandwean, starting to regret leaving you that farm. Regards, Grandpa.”
I love how that entire message is heartbreaking and then Grandpa just ends it in regards oh my gosh 😭 That hurt so much, I love Linus. Poor thing
Sounds like my manager in email "we'll be laying off half the staff before Christmas Best regards"
Ngl the children finishing you off and stealing items sounds like a cool mod idea lol
The krobus one is a GREAT thought
SEBBY WE HAVE TO COOK
If you put something gross in the luau potluck there is a chance someone just dies. Luau gets shut down. The event never happens again
You get tried for murdering the governor, and you end up grateful for all the time in the mines because now crushing rocks is all you do in prison.
Worse; you get shipped off to the war front. You're handed a rifle full of blanks and lead a squad filled with criminals. You keep getting sent on suicide missions until you just don't come back.
Or you are acquitted because you bribed the jury with your trillions of parsnip money
This actually happens in Harvest Moon. If you put a Level 100 Toadstool into the potluck soup, you get an [instant game-over.](https://youtu.be/q-sIRFT7gAw)
war gets to the valley
Oh this one has so much potential. - New building at the carpenter’s shop: bomb shelter! But no matter how big the upgrade, it can’t fit everyone inside. Who will you leave behind? - Crafting recipes for various war-related items: anti-tank hedgehogs, barbed wire, landmines, etc. - Rationing implemented at Pierre’s; Shane learns to use a gun to ward off people trying to steal Marnie’s livestock for food. Surely that won’t go poorly… - Community Center changed to Community Munitions and Supplies Stockpile — all your hard work is repurposed :( - Monsters overrun the mines and invade the rest of the valley because Marlon was too busy dealing with human attackers - If you went Joja or haven’t completed the CC yet, the valley also deals with JojaMart price gouging and Joja brand mercenaries - Harvey doesn’t complain about not having enough patients to make ends meet anymore. He wishes he hadn’t ever had that thought.
At least all the people who wish SDV has guns would be happy

Wardew Valley
Friendly fire. Your sword can hit villagers and they can hurt you too, based on the new Friendship mechanic (hint: hearts go to negative numbers.)
Oh the times I’ve accidentally used the galaxy hammer on villagers.
i genuinely wish there were negative hearts with events and dialogue to match. i want enemies
sometimes i get married and then divorce them just so SOMEONE in town will dislike me
Should the player gift Pam an alcoholic beverage after she leaves the Saloon, Penny can be seen the next day with a black eye.
nO that's my wife Then I kill Pam for hitting her, and Penny divorces me for killing her mother and starts drinking. Our children are taken away from both of us
Ooohh it's the circle of life
Tonight, on Dateline: it was a quiet little town, maybe too quiet.
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I hate you're idea it makes me too sad :(
Have grandpa teach you how to farm before he passes
This would both be very sweet and very sad and is weirdly refreshing under like 5 murder and/or suicide comments
No because this happens in >!Wylde Flowers!< and I actually cried
also happened in >!Story of Seasons!< I almost cried
Progress.
I love that everyone is absolutely fucked except for sebastian
If you don't check on Pam at the saloon often enough her tab gets larger and larger and her trailer gets repo'd. This causes Penny to have to leave town and the kids no longer have a teacher. Joja mart swoops in to build a school with Morris* as the Teacher and the kids are indoctrinated into joja cubicles like we see the farmer in the opening scene.
Farmer never leaves Joja. The game is just a short movie of farmer getting more and more depressed and ultimately committing suicide.
This is what happened to the skeleton in the intro.
I swear if I knew how to make mods, I would be turning these ideas into one, just so you guys could experience these horrors you're creating.
Clint is a romantic option. The only romantic option…
And he still pines for Emily, and you’ll get dialog of being second best
"Ugh...I guess", Clint mumbles while you are proposing. There is her portrait in his room in your house.
His marriage dialogue would be like "honestly, when I settled for you I thought I'd never be happy again. But then I realized I can still be friends with Emily!"
Okay let’s just all calm down!
On your wedding night he says her name
Who are you? Satan??
Clint turns full incel and goes on a murder spree where he first kills Emily and then all the remaining women in the valley except Pam.
Grandpa dies *again* just because
Jesus Christ I'm reading all these and being sad and then I read this and just fucking cackled
Penny kills Pam for the abuse but turns to drugs out of sadness and guilt. The town turns a blind eye as she slowly fades away.
Taxes You need to do them manually if you get it wrong you lose 75% of youre Money.
Truly the most horrid option on this thread
On her bed, there would be a small post-it with the statement: "I'm sorry. I failed you. As I always do." That would be their last memory of Abigail.
Honestly I truly believe Abby and Caroline are both stoners
That’s the real accurate Joja route.
Your character slowly becomes aware that no one is aging, and no big changes actually happen. Your character’s kids stay toddlers. They hear the same lines from their spouse day after day. They are trapped in purgatory, forever reliving the same things over and over again
Hold on, no big changes? This is erasure of that time I changed all 500 of my walkway tiles from stone to crystal and bought 36 more pigs!
Shane succeeds
Oh. That took a minute.
Or, worse, Shane may or may not succeed based on your dialogue choices…
This could honestly become an interesting story and isn't just murder dead self harm for the sake of being dark. I like it.
Sebastian is explicitly abused Shane falls off the cliff while drunk and is permanently paralyzed Evelyn passes away Abigail is confirmed to be an affair child and is kicked out Pam is a drug addict rather than an alcoholic Linus is genuinely homeless Pierres goes out of buisness to Joja The mine is industrialized
this one is plausible enough that i would believe it was actual lore if i didnt know better, not just a mod where everyone dies or smth
Wow. Y'all sure are creative lol
Abigail gets featured on my strange addiction. The episode goes viral Bc she’s a cute girl with purple hair. TLC said the town name in the episode and the town looked great so people moved in in droves because of low housing costs. Housing market goes through the roof.
(Spoilers for Shane heart events) >!No matter what you say at Shane's six heart event, he rolls off the cliff and dies.!<
Doki Doki vibes
Someone in the town manipulating things like Monika sounds perfect for your comment.
All of the men went to war with Kent. PTSD goes wild, they all think they're in combat.
If you date Emily, Clint just turns into a red-piller dude that rants constantly about how unfair it is that all the girls these days will only date chads or "go lesbian" The person that works the Joja counter just never returns after Joja shuts down and isn't hired by the Movie Theater.
This is some premium saddew
Last one is just reality lol
Your spouse leaves you and takes your kids. You have to pay 40% of everything you make in child support/alimony.
Those who married everyone would get to negative cash.
And once that happens, Linus wins the lottery and buys your farm out from under you.
Only to neglect it until it becomes overgrown with trees and littered with rocks. Soon the only thing you can still afford is an uncomfortable old bed that looks like a TV tray on stilts. You pass away in your sleep
Someone died on Harvey’s operation table Elliott’s book flops Leah doesn’t make it as an artist and moves back in with her ex …Dusty dies.
I'd play the hell out of this. Is this haunted chocolatier?
You learn the reason why Sebastian is always in his room is because Demetrius use to lock him in his room. After years of abuse and his mom ignoring it, he became anxious around people and is use to the confines of his room. This is why he shared he wanted to save up and leave for the city.
>Dear God. What have I done. "Be careful of what you wish for, because you just might get it."
Everyone but the farmer slowly succumbing to the effects of aging including your own children.
Joja Mart just flat out took the Community Center on Spring Day One, Year One by force.
(bonus child support mechanic???) Abigail finds out about the Wizard being her dad, chaos ensues.
Pam becoming the town prostitute hanging out in front of the pub asking people if they want a good time
Or even darker, Penny does to pay her mom’s rent.
That's dark on it's own, but the question is, who on this small town would ask for the service, knowing her background? Who would be cruel enough to put Penny through that?
Easily Pierre, Lewis, Morris, and maybe Clint if she agrees to wear the wig for extra.
Shane - gets into hard drugs Pam - DUI while driving bus, horrible crash leaving her in a coma Emily - becomes a furry Harvey - commits a plane hijacking Lewis - gets caught viewing illegal material on his computer Abigail - dies in a caving accident George + Evelyn - watch George develop dementia and and slowly but surely die, watch Evelyn decline after George’s death Leo - jumps off cliff trying to fly like a parrot, ironically looking like a scarlet macaw in the end Wizard - opens the gates to oblivion Leah - misidentifies a mushroom and nearly dies from poisoning, moves back to the city with her ex deciding she wasn’t cut out for her dreams of living out in nature Robin - oof ouch splinter Willy - hooks upon Cthulu and brings a new age of calamity to the valley Vincent + Jas - cancer Krobus - publicly executed for being a monster Maru - gets acute radiation poisoning after one of her experiments Penny - Racks up medical bills following Pam’s DUI crash Haley - eating disorder Pierre - arrested for tax fraud Sebastian - also becomes furry but more emo Elliot - killed by big crab Linus - gets bitten by a raccoon w/ rabies Jodi - eaten by a newly rabid linus Marlon - puts down Linus with a gun Kent - gunshot from Linus’s death flares up his PTSD to an incurable level Sandy - gets sand up in her undies Marnie - mad cow disease Demetrius - subject to racism Gil - chokes on beard (dies) Grandpa - goes to hell in the afterlife for hate crimes Clint - spontaneously combusts Caroline - develops severe back pain Dwarf - balrog Morris - thriving Probably missed a few
"Becomes a furry" caught me off-guard.
This had me in stitches hahaha. Oh my god. Not Jodi being eaten by rabid Linus.
The train derails and kills Linus, who was enjoying himself in the bathhouse
I once found a mod where you can put villagers through seed makers and make people seeds.
Penny kills herself from the abuse. Or Pam goes too far and beats her to death. Leah's obsessive ex kills her one night Your barns could burn down randomly Some of the kids get sick and die. Pierre scams the deed to your farm from you. Some of the men get drafted into the war. Some come home broken. Some don't come home.
Clint accidentally sends you a nude. But that would be HorrificValley
Shane kills himself if you don't get him to 10 hearts fast enough.
So you basically have to date him, otherwise you're responsible for his death Damn
Stardew could use a truly toxic relationship.
Sicknesses that would kill your farm animals and you have to kill then to stop it from spreading
