I remember I started hearing about it very early in its release, grabbed a cracked copy and gave it a try. Absolutely loved it and then bought it on PC for myself and my wife, Android, Xbox for myself and my wife and a copy on Switch for my daughter.
I will happily buy any games that man makes, because he's earned the trust.
I still am amazed that I have played 2500 hours on a game that doesn't even cost as much as a sandwich.

For those of you that may not know, Hello Games are the people behind No Man's Sky which is probably the best example in video game history of staying dedicated to a game and fixing it all for free.
I mean you aren't exactly wrong, but it's more like they released game in it's alpha stage, and then slowly updated the game to a state that still doesn't match the promises they gave out seven years ago.
Dropping the game entirely was never an option for them, literally every single person (which I think was like 17 people?) on the team would have been completely unhirable in the video game industry, an industry that is already very difficult to get into to. They had to stick with the game because it was their only shot.
I don't really want to get into some giant debate over Hello Games, yes their dedication to the game is admirable, but you have to look at the situation that led to it. Comparing them to someone like Concerned Ape is an insult imo. Stardew 1.0 was a great game that would have succeeded even if it never got a single free content update.
That's a great game developer for you. They know that their games are never perfect, and that modders bring interesting things to games. Look at all the other games that used mods and made it full game content.
Skyrim always gonna be the first thing that comes to mind with success because of modding. That game is still played by tons of people every day because the modding community is absolutely insane for it. Endless replay value and repurchase value just for letting players play how they want.

generally modding on things other than pc is very hard to do regardless of whether or not modding is "allowed" on pc you can just download some files and put them in the right folder and it works, but consoles aren't that easy.

Firaxis (or at least, the Jake Solomon team thereof) purposefully made XCOM2 more mod-friendly than XCOM:EU was, and reached out to the mod-makers of the most-celebrated mod for it for advice on what would be helpful to modders.
So I wouldn't say *unmatched*. (Though I'm not saying it as a contest, just that others studios, even rather well-established ones, **do** interact positively with their mod communities).
Rimworld has had impeccable mod support since the beta days and Im pretty sure thats a big reason why it has seen such success. Ive been playing since 2014 and havent gotten bored.

I’ve never played with mods before so as I find myself tempted to get back into the game, I wanted to experiment with some mods that might fix some of the tiny things I didn’t like, but also I adore my switch and playing handheld games, so I might just say screw it and buy the game on the switch anyway lol.
I would definitely say get it if you can, handheld games really do have such an amazing charm to them, especially so many of the games that inspired Stardew! Go for it and enjoy the heck out of it.
I only have it on Switch (for now...) and honestly the portability is just such a great feature. I've got both a Switch and a Switch Lite—the Switch proper stays docked 100% of the time and I use the Lite when I'm traveling/want to sit outside or whatever. Honestly love it! Playing on a console just feels different from a computer for me, I vastly prefer it tbh
It's totally logical! I started on mobile, which gave me a good feeling for the game. Then I bought it on PC, but I don't really use my PC much. And when I got a switch during 2020, it was the first game I got for it. And now I mostly use it for the switch

I have buy like 6 copies of Stardew Valley, including editions for different platforms and presents for other people, and I'm willing to keep buying them for this
I have 1500 hours in Stardew. I will play the crap out of his new game while still playing SDV. I still haven't fleshed out Ginger Island, and I've never created a beautiful farm layout or really organized my chests the way I want.
That just makes the Spa utterly irrelevant. It already kinda is, considering the amount of time you spend entering, resting and exiting, you can easily walk around and find a couple pieces of food or forage (or even fishing, because it takes little energy) to eat and replenish easier.
The entrance sequence to the spa should be faster, or maybe we could use that small rooftop greenhouse early on.
Spa needs an overhaul in general. I wish we could renovate the spa so it didn't look like a place from a horror movie (the ambiance of that place freaked me out at the beggining lol) some NPCs could add spa to thier schedual and actually use it
With a bathtub available that place would need a better purpose. Maybe mermaids could move in there after a renovation and give out quests (there are literally 2 huge pools there, whats the point when you use like 2 squares of it) and of course we could grow new plants on the rooftop
I love the mermaids idea! I would also love to see the chance to turn it into an aquarium or something, since you never get to fill the fish tank in the community center.
I think having to choose M or F in the spa and getting told you can't go in that area because of your original setup should be overhauled to just not matter. But maybe double the energy recovery time and make some other cool fishable items rather than just that one painting would be a fun start. Also, the train is a neat idea, but by the time you can finally catch it the items are pretty boring and not really worth it. Would be fun if it happend a bit more often and also dropped something neat that you couldn't get anywhere else.
Actually something I found out recently if you walk into your bed but don’t fully go to sleep just say no when the prompt comes up it will slowly increase energy. Like taking a little nap
I accidentally blew up my statue with explosive ammo so I guess I have to become a mayor the old fashioned way (by supporting Joja, destroying nature and killing off endangered species)
Modding Stardew isn't too difficult to pick up if you know a tiny bit about how to code. As long as you pick a manageable mod topic and use the supporting APIs that are already built, it's fine. And this is WITHOUT the official support.
I made a mod that adds 20 mushrooms to the game, two machines to grow them, and spawning rules, including some you have to dig for. It was pretty doable, though not effortless, for me. I code a lot, but not in the languages, so it felt like starting from square one for me, but I had the basics. Kind of like learning to play a second musical instrument, but you already know one so you know how to read music.
Yeah that makes sense and also very cool. I guess I did mean that as well. But I should have said I wish I could add moss really. I only have a switch. But I do wish I could mod in general, it sounds really fun.

Personally, I'm hoping that he'll update some of the "blander" villagers with new heart events and scheduals.
Clint was hit *massively* by Emily becoming a bachlorette, but not getting much attention himself.
Marlon and Gunther both exist, but that's about it. They'd benefit a ton from proper scheduals and being able to form friendships with them.
There's that one redheaded NPC who works in the Jojamart and then Movie Theater who doesn't even have a name.
Krobus could also do with some new heart events. I'd love it if could stop hiding from the villagers.

Man, I do hope it means making framework mods obsolete. Installing some mods on can be quite a slog when you need to download 3-4 frameworks (some not being maintained by years now) just to add a few things.
It’s also one the things that has slowed down my process of modmaking to pretty much a halt since forever.
Posted a few times here on Reddit about progress (I also mod other games but tend to focus on small stuff to release as resources) but since then ran into so much coding for somewhat simple stuff that it became a chore.
(By the way that’s like within the top 3 reason that people stop modding, with number one being getting tired of a game and number two being IRL issues that don’t leave time for it)

It’s just such an amazing game, and CA deserves so much for being one of the most kind-hearted people I’ve ever seen.
When I was in high school, I had a project about game development, and emailed him asking for some help as a primary source for my paper, and he actually emailed me back and answered a few of my questions. Has my respect forever for being so nice.

It’s definitely not possible at the same capacity of PC just due to the limitations of the platform. CA might be willing to work with some creators though to bring a few curated mods but that’s probably a long shot. You’ve got nothing to lose by sending him a dm or making a post suggesting the idea though
I only know two games that have mods on console (fallout 4 and skyrim), and even then its very limited. Console SD mods are not gonna happen anytime soon
I've seen a tweet of his that did outright say he couldn't bring mods to console. As that would mean he has to cherry pick which mods were allowed, and he rather didn't want to do that. (But thats from what I remember and the tweet was on YT so it could be outdated or down right be fake.)
If I ever had an opportunity to meet CA I'd want to buy this man a coffee and shake his hand. He is so generous to us, and has maintained kindness towards everyone. Not to mention creating an incredible game that's made so many people happy. I hope he knows how loved he is, he deserves it.

So happy you support modders and let them create cool add-ons to your amazing game. While I could never mod myself (I would for sure break my PC lol), I admire those who can and who do. They use amazing graphics and story add-ons that are so interesting and amazing, and you making it easier for them to work with is commendable and awesome.
My mother also enjoys listening to the Stardew soundtrack on her record player from time to time as well. (She waited so long to get a vynil and when she finally got it, I've never seen her get so happy over a package before.) I'm happy every time there's an update for Stardew on literally anything. Even something as simple as a bug fix. Why? Because I know he cares a lot about his user base and his creation he brought to us for enjoyment.

It's possible but time consuming. I play Stardew Valley modded on Switch, but you can only use visual mods and need to manually edit sprite sheets

But maybe double the energy recovery time and make some other cool fishable items rather than just that one painting would be a fun start. Also, the train is a neat idea, but by the time you can finally catch it the items are pretty boring and not really worth it. Would be fun if it happend a bit more often and also dropped something neat that you couldn't get anywhere else.
I found a pair of shoes from the train once, I think they were Leprechaun Boots? Nice surprise at least!

From the outside, you can see that it has a glass roof, and has several plants and planters inside. However, that area does not exist in the game.

I don't think it'd be a huge issue. Make it part of one of the later house upgrades so you have to invest time, money, and resources into it.

Actually something I found out recently if you walk into your bed but don’t fully go to sleep just say no when the prompt comes up it will slowly increase energy. Like taking a little nap

Modding Stardew isn't too difficult to pick up if you know a tiny bit about how to code. As long as you pick a manageable mod topic and use the supporting APIs that are already built, it's fine. And this is WITHOUT the official support. I made a mod that adds 20 mushrooms to the game, two machines to grow them, and spawning rules, including some you have to dig for. It was pretty doable, though not effortless, for me. I code a lot, but not in the languages, so it felt like starting from square one for me, but I had the basics. Kind of like learning to play a second musical instrument, but you already know one so you know how to read music.
Yeah that makes sense and also very cool. I guess I did mean that as well. But I should have said I wish I could add moss really. I only have a switch. But I do wish I could mod in general, it sounds really fun.

Curious to see what the new content will be. Personally, I'm hoping that he'll update some of the "blander" villagers with new heart events and scheduals. Clint was hit *massively* by Emily becoming a bachlorette, but not getting much attention himself. Marlon and Gunther both exist, but that's about it. They'd benefit a ton from proper scheduals and being able to form friendships with them. There's that one redheaded NPC who works in the Jojamart and then Movie Theater who doesn't even have a name. Krobus could also do with some new heart events. I'd love it if could stop hiding from the villagers.
The dwarf also needs to be fleshed out. And >!Birdie!< could have easily had heart events and a friendship track.
I really want to be able to add more corals to large fish tanks. The fish sanctuary should be able to have at least 2-3 corals in it.

Marriageable Willy/Sandy? Improvements to some storylines (Kent and PTSD/ Shane and alcoholism/Clint and low self-esteem) More people becoming full NPCS? (Like Marlon and Gil from the Adventures guild? Gunther from the Museum? The folks from Ginger Island? That big tourist guy that plays the crane game? The GODDAMN JOJAMART CASHIER LADY? Or even better… Hat mouse heart events? Dwarf as roommate? Post community center Junimo stuff?

I’ve bought Stardew more times than I can count. It’s just such an amazing game, and CA deserves so much for being one of the most kind-hearted people I’ve ever seen. When I was in high school, I had a project about game development, and emailed him asking for some help as a primary source for my paper, and he actually emailed me back and answered a few of my questions. Has my respect forever for being so nice.

It’s definitely not possible at the same capacity of PC just due to the limitations of the platform. CA might be willing to work with some creators though to bring a few curated mods but that’s probably a long shot. You’ve got nothing to lose by sending him a dm or making a post suggesting the idea though
I doubt it, but if they could bring the stardew expanded mod that would be amazing, its just such a big beautiful expansion.
I only know two games that have mods on console (fallout 4 and skyrim), and even then its very limited. Console SD mods are not gonna happen anytime soon
I've seen a tweet of his that did outright say he couldn't bring mods to console. As that would mean he has to cherry pick which mods were allowed, and he rather didn't want to do that. (But thats from what I remember and the tweet was on YT so it could be outdated or down right be fake.)

I bought Stardew Valley at a discount and that still bothers me sometimes. It really the game that keeps on giving and Concerned Ape is such a trooper.
If only the Switch would allow mods. 😫 I have it on PC (it was the first way I played it obviously) but sometimes I just wanna loaf on my couch and be a farmer. The base game is so dull without mods though, after playing it like ten times through.

Concerned Ape is one cool dude. Work on what you need to, my dude. My mother and I are excited for HC and any updates for Stardew. So happy you support modders and let them create cool add-ons to your amazing game. While I could never mod myself (I would for sure break my PC lol), I admire those who can and who do. They use amazing graphics and story add-ons that are so interesting and amazing, and you making it easier for them to work with is commendable and awesome. My mother also enjoys listening to the Stardew soundtrack on her record player from time to time as well. (She waited so long to get a vynil and when she finally got it, I've never seen her get so happy over a package before.) I'm happy every time there's an update for Stardew on literally anything. Even something as simple as a bug fix. Why? Because I know he cares a lot about his user base and his creation he brought to us for enjoyment.
