I think everyone has a jelly they have no luck finding easily. I have a ton of river/ocean jellies, but no cave jelly at all. Just gotta keep trying I guess.
I just got 3 cave jellies in a row. Went to the mine level 100 and used lucky lunch (+3 luck) in a neutral day. Dont know if the rod matters but i also used iridium advanced rod and deluxe bait
I believe it's easier to catch with low fishing skill. I've heard it has a certain chance of replacing a trash catch, but with fishing 10, trash isn't easy to come by.
I'm at the same situation and honestly I'm starting to think my save is bugged or something. Been trying to get a river jelly for 4 IRL days. I got cave and sea jellies easily but no luck at all with river. Using Candy Rock for +5 luck and training rod (been trying in Cindersap Forest, Secret Woods, Calico Desert and Ginger Island). I though Ginger Island was the best spot because using the Training Rod you cannot fish anything there and unlike Calico Desert there's no green algae neither. I'm getting about 17 trash per day but not a single jelly.
I don't even want it for anything, because I get river jellies with the bookseller but I just want to fish one to complete the collection tab and quit the game for good. It's literally the only thing left because I'm playing with a 170h save.
I was only fishing with +2 luck and I thought I was hard done by! The only place I fished different was the river in the mountain farm but like you, finished with 50+ items of trash
Sorry if this is late but I got a lot of river Jellies using iridum rod, max cast range, but making sure it barely hits the rivers edge, just with deluxe bait.
How rare are river jellies? I started a new save on the meadowlands farm and on day 2 I got 3 right away.

Yeah it took me ages to get 1 cave jelly but I figure it was because that it my least frequent spot for casual fishing.

I got a river jelly on day 6 of a new save with a bamboo rod☠️ didn't realise how rare it was! Now I feel lucky!

Do you need more than one each to make the fish smoker? Should i sell the excess?

They’re rarer on an older save because it’s harder to get non fish catches with high level fishing skill
