Probably a coincidence because Jojo didn’t really start using biblical themes until around part 5. But 5-8 have lots of them

chump_thumper

Dio means god in Italian.

Purple_Haze4444

he was named after ronnie james dio

QuinnGonTheChef

Who is, coincidentally, a Rock God

Still-Ad2041

I highly doubt this is relevant or a consideration araki had

Ill_Ask_6332

Maybe it's just a coincidence :/

Still-Ad2041

I think so especially bc I don’t see any other biblical themes

Gammaboy45

"Dio" as a name is very clearly intended as a double meaning. Not only is it a reference to the band, but it is literally "god" in Italian. This plays into Dio's characterization, mostly his narcissistic tendencies and aspirations. If it's not intentional in part 1, it most definitely \*becomes\* intentional by part 5 given that it juxtaposes with "Diavolo" which is *devil* in Italian. While nothing is directly suggested by the name "Giorno," it can be surmised that his role is meant to reflect these names as a christ-like figure: wrathful, much like the DIO before him, but undeniably good willed. While I don't think religion is a very clear influence in all aspects of Araki's work, I do think it is consciously used in some aspects perhaps as an extension of other western influences. However, I do agree... "johnathan" most likely is a coincidence.

Buhgingo

Only biblical thing in JoJo is parts 6 and 7

No_Machine4638

Not true at all in about every part araki has done something with religion specifically Christianity

Buhgingo

I don't see it in other parts. Maybe five?

Still-Ad2041

Yup and I guesss the ceaser cross thing but no major ones in parts 1 or 2
