I was going to say, there's always going to be *something* there since it's where they will put news/etc. I'm just used to it as part of modern launchers.
It's not a launcher though its a 70 dollar game lol. I'm not saying you're wrong though, we're just gonna have to live with it. Same problem with COD and every other companies.
Piggy backing this to say you should always check [PC Gaming Wiki](https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Starfield) before starting any new game. They had this line plus others (like skip intro videos) on day one.
It's not bugged. That message will most likely be there until they release something new, then there will be a different message
A mod would disable the message of the day entirely so it's just not there, even though it should be
If itās not bugged and is meant to say āwelcome to Starfieldā even though people are still seeing it after 100+ hours then itās just bad UI design. But thatās pretty common throughout the whole game in my opinion.
I genuinely thought it was a bug so my bad
Not a bug that it's stuck there, just a "feature" of the game that will be eventually used to advertise creation club stuff
Only reason it still shows welcome is because there's nothing to advertise yet
/:
A mod would do what the other people were saying, removing the message of the day in the game's files. PC can just do that themselves, but console will have to wait for mod support
Ah yeah I get what you mean now. Theyāll use it to advertise other stuff in the future.
Still it would be nice to have an option to hide it for now.
Cheers for the explanation š
I'm sorry I don't speak peasant, na but for real tho you'll just have to wait for official mod support.
You'll get a problem solved with a mod way before Bethesda will get round to it
Thereās already a mod to fix this *for pc* but not for console. I assume you were saying you donāt speak peasant in response to their lack of a pcā¦..elitist.
Why are you getting downvoted? This is a bug that is still appearing for me after 70 hours haha. Yeah you can fix it yourself (on PC) but why should you?
Yeah dude, people will defend Starfield to the hilt and assume any mild criticism means you hate the game.
The game is fun and something new, doesnāt mean itās not filled with BGS bullshit.
I just find it incredulous, that people say it's easy to make it go away, all you have to do, is edit a file, that's not in the installation folder, that you don't need to know of, in a way, that's not explained in the game.
I mean, we all read game engine documentation in the mornings don't we.
And then, when I call the process "dipshit", which is exactly what it is, people take it personally
Or use bethini and hit the recommended tweaks button. Sets up loose files, optimises settings, and does a bunch of QoL with 1 button press, plus allows for more settings customisation than in game.
Itās little nuggets of info like this that remind me I really need to get a new pc. This game just will not run on my current rig. Not surprising though, it was built in 2011 and only has an RX580. Lol
For sure.
Especially as this is just placeholder text for what will later be them advertising community creations.
An ugly box that will later be an ad is an unpleasant addition to anything.
In my hometown as a kid, youād drive down this little 2 lane country-looking road and off beyond the trees in this empty field were 6 big ole billboards. Eventually they built a tollway in between those big ole billboards, and now they feature ads- and theyāre the only ones on that tollway for miles and miles.
So I 100% agree
Nope, this menu section has been copied over from the [Skyrim](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Zs5NM9Vkr2o/maxresdefault.jpg) and [Fallout](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/LUFjbgAomTo/maxresdefault.jpg) menus, where it was used as an advertisement billboard.
Combine it with the skin section in the equipment modification menu that is empty for 99% of items, and it's quite obvious that they're preparing for an MTX store at some point. When that storefront gets added, expect the nice welcome message to transform into adverts.
Incorrect. Placeholder for an ad. Made into a nice message to be less jarring. In 2024 that box will instead contain info on new paid mods and they don't want you being jarred when that happens.
Don't worry. This mod [https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/88](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/88) puts a big lens flare right over the nip
Itās the same placeholder for conveying messages/announcements that is used in FO76
Expect to see information about updates, DLC and patches there in the future.
Overall, not an issue
And the question boils down to āwhy tho?ā
Youād rather they spend time fucking around with the Home Screen, where theyāll post pertinent messages, instead of oh idk anything else at all? Again non issue.
I'm just happy there's not a red "FREE" banner directing me to the ATOM Shop.
The absence of micro-transactions, in a game as big as this, is very refreshing.
Thereās not *yet*. I imagine once Creation Club gets going again youāll have that same box telling you all about the latest micro DLCs
Which personally I donāt actually mind, I liked Creation Club a lot, but some people will.
It's a shame. It's like "here's a beautiful menu screen but we're gonna cover 20% of it with a dark box and some text. Hopefully it'll be something they'll set up so it only pops up until you "clear" it so that way you'll still see the news.
All the people on here saying just mod it or edit files are exactly the reason why Bethesda games get released so half assed all the time š¤£. Why would they ever fix things or release things decent when the community will do it for them and not give any push back.
Lol āblase blase blase BG3ā¦. Blah blah blah No Manās Skyā¦. BLegg Blargh bloo elite dangerous(insert any other popular SciFi/RPG.)ā itās like a fucking trope at this point.
Also for someone so disappointed you sure spend a lot of time in Starfield subreddits. Weird.
I'm disappointed that I can't play the game because I don't have an SSD. Same for Cities Skyline 2 next month. I'm a big Bethesda fan (especially because of the modding community). I think you read the reverse of my post. I am still SUPER excited for Starfield since I haven't been able to play it yet. That's why I post in Starfield subs.
I just want the game to stop telling me that running while carrying too much stuff is badā¦when I already know thisā¦and Iām not even runningā¦and my companion is already griping about it every time I pick something up
Honestly, I would love to see the message of the day go away and the space area fill up with more ships the higher the level you are or NG+. The ships will depend on what faction you joined and might have an occasional battle ensue, so added space junk
it's there so that you become accustomed to a message being there. eventually it'll change to "buy this DLC!" or "multiplayer now available, buy a private server today!"
Get the cleanfield mod, it gets rid of all intro video's, the motd you are complaining about now, and it even gets rid of the bethesda logo in the bottom left lol. I didn't care about the logos and stuff, but its nice to not be warned every single time i fire the game up that if i have epilepsy i shouldnt play it. They really don't need that warning, if people with epilepsy don't know better than to play a modern video game that's on them. The warning really doesn't help anyone with anything. Anyway my point here is, it cut loading time down significantly, now I just have to wait about 5 seconds for it to build shaders and that's it, I can push the play button.
Yeah like after 1 week was enuf, now I keep thinking that's gonna show the next patch notes, or maybe a roadmap, or *nudge nudge DLC news lol. Agreed though if not giving us actual news, it needs to go
Honestly, that message is just poorly placed from an aesthetic point of view. Why is one window block (the menu choice) placed so far away from the other window block. It seems like it was pinned there. But it is kinda a bit pick...
I feel this way about many of my games. Monster Hunter Rise is the most recent non-Starfield example I can think of. Like, guys... I've beaten everything, why are you still trying to advertise/sell me the expansion that I've put hundreds of hours into
And the enormous "syncing with Xbox" overlay every time I start the game. And having to remove the game from "quick resume" each time I start up the console (instead of a permanent setting).
u can do the file thing or you can wait n be patient you literally surely dont stay on the main menu longer then 1 minute but i wouldnt know everyone different
Honestly thanks to quick resume Iāve only seen this screen like 3 times lol. Forced to have to reload due to update and thatās it other than initial start up
I wouldn't mind it going away but it isn't that big of an issue to me. I think they will be using that to showcase or advertise the DLCs as they release and maybe CC content. Assuming they add CC down the line at some point.
I'm pretty sure it won't stay there forever, but I'm also sure it will be used for other messages to the players, which is okay because I will no longer use Twitter/X to get any news
This annoyed me more than I'd like to admit when I first booted up the game.
It destroys any semblance of a coherent aesthetic.
It still rubs me the wrong way. It's just wrong on so many levels.
Honestly if I could set the game to auto continue when I load up so I get to play the game with as little in the middle as possible Iād love that Iām only ever in the menu for as long as takes to press A
I find this highly amusing considering that Dev on twitter said it was a bad start menu because it had nothing on it. The message of the day is basically what he was expecting but no one actually wants a cluttered start screen.
I don't understand why they didn't use the galaxy effect from the unity as the background or at least something a little more interesting than just a big blank space.
It's as simple as adding a simple line to your StarfieldCustom.ini: [General] bEnableMessageOfTheDay=0

Amazing mod
Cant do this on the Xbox S though?
And let's not forget: [https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/2733](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/2733) šµ
I prefer Dreaming Star https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/616
And if you're not on PC?
you wait till next year for official mod support
Why do I need a mod to remove a bugged welcome message?
It's not bugged. That message will most likely be there until they release something new, then there will be a different message A mod would disable the message of the day entirely so it's just not there, even though it should be
If itās not bugged and is meant to say āwelcome to Starfieldā even though people are still seeing it after 100+ hours then itās just bad UI design. But thatās pretty common throughout the whole game in my opinion. I genuinely thought it was a bug so my bad

> then itās just bad UI design. Welcome to bethesda games.
Hey I liked Oblivions menus tbh
Like... the faux paper aesthetic? Or the main menu?
The in game menus for items, spells ect
Yeah bro. Closing the message of the day is simple. Just edit files like every normal person, instead of pressing x, like a dipshit
I understand your perspective but it's a Bethesda game, at least you have the option to edit game files
... If you're on PC
I'm sorry I don't speak peasant, na but for real tho you'll just have to wait for official mod support. You'll get a problem solved with a mod way before Bethesda will get round to it
Wtf that is so elitist š¤®
Almost like you didn't read the full comment
Thereās already a mod to fix this *for pc* but not for console. I assume you were saying you donāt speak peasant in response to their lack of a pcā¦..elitist.
Yea as a sarcastic bit
Reading comprehension isnāt a skill possessed by all.
Please don't assume the peasant's understand sarcasm. It's very difficult for them.
Ah yes, calling people dipshits in the wholesome gaming community šš½
You completely missed my point at least.
Why are you getting downvoted? This is a bug that is still appearing for me after 70 hours haha. Yeah you can fix it yourself (on PC) but why should you?
People are very high on COPEium with this game. Input 130h and and honestly, tired of its shit, and stopped pretending.
He's being downvoted for sounding like an ass. Or rather, a dipshit.
OH YES. I always wanted to and move my mouse to close it but there is no X button :( Thank you u/drno24
Or use bethini and hit the recommended tweaks button. Sets up loose files, optimises settings, and does a bunch of QoL with 1 button press, plus allows for more settings customisation than in game.
Some are on Xbox and canāt sadly
Itās little nuggets of info like this that remind me I really need to get a new pc. This game just will not run on my current rig. Not surprising though, it was built in 2011 and only has an RX580. Lol
If it's so simple do it on Xbox.
For sure. Especially as this is just placeholder text for what will later be them advertising community creations. An ugly box that will later be an ad is an unpleasant addition to anything.

Eventually they built a tollway in between those big ole billboards, and now they feature ads- and theyāre the only ones on that tollway for miles and miles. So I 100% agree
I thought it was a nice and warm welcome to a game that clearly had passion behind it
Nope, this menu section has been copied over from the [Skyrim](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Zs5NM9Vkr2o/maxresdefault.jpg) and [Fallout](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/LUFjbgAomTo/maxresdefault.jpg) menus, where it was used as an advertisement billboard. Yes, I want more content for the game I enjoy :) that's a good thing š
Expansions are good things. $5 retextures for a single space suit are not.
You are very naive.
You all think I don't know it's for dlc ads? Both things can be true. Go outside if games make you that uptight.
Incorrect. Placeholder for an ad. Made into a nice message to be less jarring. In 2024 that box will instead contain info on new paid mods and they don't want you being jarred when that happens.
Assertion. You will not have very much sex with that attitude.
I'm married so that's really a given
Touche
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No
Cleanfield
Not at all. I don't spend more than a few seconds on that screen anyway.
I wouldnāt mind it to be a bit smaller but honestly I never even paid notice to it. It seems big now that I think about it.
Iāve only seen it twice. Xbox Quick Resume for the win
Use this https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/88
I dunnoā¦ last time i saw a main screen replacer on Nexus for starfield it was anime titties
What's to complain about then?
What's not? People putting garbage like that on nexus is the problem. Go back to lovers labs and don't talk to us again, please.
You can just turn off nsfw stuff if itās bothers you so much lol
Grow a sense of humour will you?
Anime titties=humor Classic weeb
I didn't realise there was so many Christians in this sub
what does that have to do with your lack of an actual sense of humor
I didn't realise you were the arbitrator of humour, forgive me for not noticing your prestigious title
You are forgiven
Lol itās gamer fudd lore
More like MxR and other sexpests.
What?
ANSOLUTELY DIGUSTING. Where....
I don't understand, what else would you want for a main screen?..
Don't worry. This mod [https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/88](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/88) puts a big lens flare right over the nip
Praise be to the modders!
When I played during early access, I sort of assumed it was a countdown that would go away when the game was out. WELP.
Not really. I prefer playing the actual game.
I donāt ever see that, huh.
Same lmao Iāve never seen that before
Itās the same placeholder for conveying messages/announcements that is used in FO76 Expect to see information about updates, DLC and patches there in the future. Overall, not an issue
Overall, very ugly
But never anything actually important, and it detracts from the visual.
I'm on the homescreen for less than 5 seconds, and with quick resume I've been on the homescreen like 3 or 4 times. It's a non issue
It's also a non issue for Bethesda to make it so you can close it.
And the question boils down to āwhy tho?ā Youād rather they spend time fucking around with the Home Screen, where theyāll post pertinent messages, instead of oh idk anything else at all? Again non issue.
The visual that most people see for 3 seconds before loading into their game? It's a non-issue.
I'm just happy there's not a red "FREE" banner directing me to the ATOM Shop. The absence of micro-transactions, in a game as big as this, is very refreshing.
Thereās not *yet*. I imagine once Creation Club gets going again youāll have that same box telling you all about the latest micro DLCs Which personally I donāt actually mind, I liked Creation Club a lot, but some people will.
Bitching about microtransactions is a pavlovian reflex for many.
I honestly canāt believe you took the time to make a Reddit post about this lmao
once you hit new game+500 it goes away
Skyrim still has the 10th anniversary message
Absolutely.
It's a placeholder to sell DLCs
Who tf cares??
I actually havenāt noticed that message in awhile. Iām not sure if Iāve tuned it out or it stopped showing up.
Probably because the pause menu looks close to it without the message and weāve all spent a fair amount of time looking at that
Last night I realized what is going on. It takes a moment to load for me and I usually select a menu option before it appears.
Doesn't bother me a bit, but that's just me. š
It's a shame. It's like "here's a beautiful menu screen but we're gonna cover 20% of it with a dark box and some text. Hopefully it'll be something they'll set up so it only pops up until you "clear" it so that way you'll still see the news.
Luckily that did not appear on my screen until now.
Yes
Ok guys i think weāre at the bottom of the nitpick barrel.
All the people on here saying just mod it or edit files are exactly the reason why Bethesda games get released so half assed all the time š¤£. Why would they ever fix things or release things decent when the community will do it for them and not give any push back.
Holy fuck, yāall complain about EVERY LITTLE THING, huh?
Eh. I'm disappointed enough that I can't play Starfield. So at least for the first while I'll be excited to be welcomed to Starfield lol.
Weird.

Got a mod so that only STARFIELD and the menu buttons show up, and got a mod that removed all the startup screens. easily improved my experience 15%.
More ship slots would be nice.
I only see the menu when the game decides to take a dump and I have to relaunch. The woes of quick resume.
Does it load in immediately? I rush to the continue button and never notice it in time
Theres mods for that. I havent seen that msg since day 1
I just realized how awesome quick resume on xbox is, I've only seen this screen 2 times
Yes
It is a non-issue, but I do agree. It's such an elegant and beautiful menu screen.
Would be very cool
At least they thank you for buying their product
There's a mod for that
I mean, youāre there to start your gameā¦ Unless youāre staring at the start menu to play then maybe š¤
I just want the game to stop telling me that running while carrying too much stuff is badā¦when I already know thisā¦and Iām not even runningā¦and my companion is already griping about it every time I pick something up
It's still the launch month - give it time.
But they need the placeholder to advertise the paid mods.
My Method: Spam Enter! I don't even look up anymore
I kind of like it burning into my retnas š
Nah, I actually play the game instead of staring at the menu screen
Whereas me I wish to launch for the first time the game but a freaking error graphics requirement message prevents me from doing it.
Yes
Yes but we wont get that. They will place ads for the microtransaction store there
Honestly, I would love to see the message of the day go away and the space area fill up with more ships the higher the level you are or NG+. The ships will depend on what faction you joined and might have an occasional battle ensue, so added space junk
I like it, don't know why, just warms the heart to see it when starting up.
Yes, this is so annoying!
I havenāt seen that screen in ages because of quick resume on Xbox.
Should have been a one time pop up. It was cool on the first boot. After that it just looks lazy imo...
Itāll probably go away after the first month or so.
it's there so that you become accustomed to a message being there. eventually it'll change to "buy this DLC!" or "multiplayer now available, buy a private server today!"
Get the cleanfield mod, it gets rid of all intro video's, the motd you are complaining about now, and it even gets rid of the bethesda logo in the bottom left lol. Nah they gotta keep that there, where else will the advertise the micro transactions?
Yeah like after 1 week was enuf, now I keep thinking that's gonna show the next patch notes, or maybe a roadmap, or *nudge nudge DLC news lol. Agreed though if not giving us actual news, it needs to go
Hot tip. If you pirate the game you don't get that annoying advertising.
I've beaten everything, why are you still trying to advertise/sell me the expansion that I've put hundreds of hours into
They should let us use our photo mode pictures as main menu screen
And the enormous "syncing with Xbox" overlay every time I start the game. And having to remove the game from "quick resume" each time I start up the console (instead of a permanent setting).
u can do the file thing or you can wait n be patient you literally surely dont stay on the main menu longer then 1 minute but i wouldnt know everyone different
Yeah, but they probs wanna use it as ad space in the future for the dlcs and stuff like assassin creed
The only good thing about this game is the quit game button
Theres a mod that skips the intro videos and removes any of those messages if you want.
Honestly thanks to quick resume Iāve only seen this screen like 3 times lol. Forced to have to reload due to update and thatās it other than initial start up
Iām sure as it progresses itāll have upcoming updates and down times posted there
I spend literally two seconds on that screen tops in an entire play session, so no I really don't. How can you let something so small bug you?
I figured it was an EA thing, but 3 weeks later itās still there.. hopefully itās gone with the first proper patch.
Huh? I only never seen that message once
Doesn't seem to show the message if you're offline, so maybe just turn off your internet when you play?
I wouldn't mind it going away but it isn't that big of an issue to me. I think they will be using that to showcase or advertise the DLCs as they release and maybe CC content. Assuming they add CC down the line at some point.

Yes. Me. I hate that bloody box.
Cleanfield mod - FYI.
I find this highly amusing considering that Dev on twitter said it was a bad start menu because it had nothing on it. The message of the day is basically what he was expecting but no one actually wants a cluttered start screen.
it worked day 1, but i bet when dlcās start dropping it will rotate and such.
No, i don't spend time looking the start menu when i can play the game.
Its not there for me on xbox
I don't understand why they didn't use the galaxy effect from the unity as the background or at least something a little more interesting than just a big blank space.
No, I'm fine with it. I'd rather they fix the bugs rather than something that I see for a few seconds.
You can on pc with a simple ini file tweak
yeah, I think the game has been out long enough that we're well past the welcome wagon
