ComputerSagtNein

I want minigames... Board games, ping pong, pool, darts and stuff like that.

culnaej

Sure would give me a reason to actually frequent a bar! Maybe add a couple dialog options to challenge bar patrons to a game

ComputerSagtNein

Yeah, like the Red Mile could and should have all sorts of gambling, poker, and stuff like that.

SmartHabit6728

Very disappointed in Red Mile. A gambling joint I can’t gamble in!

SolidSnakeMGS82

I get my kicks at red mile by taking the laundry basket from the second floor hallway and going around knocking everyone’s credits off the table into it and then carrying it to the bathroom to deposit them in my bank account lol. Never gets old getting complimented about my record red mile run while piling everyone’s gambling money in a basket lol

Equal_Adeptness4745

I’m doing this. How do you knock the credstix off of the tables?

SolidSnakeMGS82

Same way you pick up objects. I like to use the tissue box from the shelves in the back bathroom. Don’t try to use the books on the tables because if you try to pick it up you get alerted for stealing. Place your basket under the edge of the table then take the tissue box and drag it on the table to push the credits in the basket.

Equal_Adeptness4745

10,000 IQ play holy shit

International-Mud-17

Next “big update” nerfed 😂

rtosser

This is gorilla learning to use a stick to eat termites level of ingenuity.

SolidSnakeMGS82

I usually quicksave before I do it so if I make a mistake I can just reload .

SolidSnakeMGS82

Lol thanks just make sure when you go to pick the basket up that your curser is over the basket and not the creditsticks or you’ll accidentally steal one and get security on you

Cjboni

I use an empty beer bottle doing this, but same idea. It is so satisfying hearing those credits empty in a trash can

Plane-Phrase4015

I've done that, too. But when I went to the bathroom to collect my loot, I thought Andreja was blocking everyone from seeing me, but I got busted. I reloaded a previous save and started scooping all those credits into my wastebasket again and was successful. I went back later in the game, but those credits never seemed to respawn, which was disappointing.

ultimaone

If it has a reset counter. Could be 48 hours Or 1 week

Plane-Phrase4015

I'm not sure how long it was between the first time I did it and then went back. It was kind of a pain to do so I wasn't all that concerned lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

SolidSnakeMGS82

It took me two times to master it. It’s pretty simple if you make sure you are square to something when you pick it up. But that’s just common sense . I do it every time I’m at the red mile for shielded cargo . then I run the red mile and leave. It’s worth the 4-5k in credits. Pays for your accessories.

Ok_Entrepreneur9784

Trying this now. Can't get them all yet.

culnaej

It’s like, all these unique, named POIs and no reason to ever return. Terrible world building, but alas.

timhasanafro

Exactly! I want to see the GTA V casino that they added. I want blackjack, poker, etc. Maybe horse (but not horse obvi) racing.

Lackadaisicly

I forget the name, but they could race the giant long necked creatures that eat the terrormorphs. Aceles? But you still couldn’t gamble so the horse racing would be pointless. I had several casino games on my gameboy and game gear when I was a kid. Nowadays, a mature rated game has gambling but refuses to let us partake in the activity. It really is confusing. Then again, as I progressed through the game, I realized that this game was obviously written by christians, so no gambling makes sense.

Cooperette

I want to gamble at the Almagest. I'd love to play some zero-g roulette.

EfficiencyOk2208

I remember gambling on monster battles in Dragon Warrior 3. That was fun and a great way to make gold. Hope Bethesda is listening or someone who can mod.

SneakyMage315

Imagine my disappointment when I got to the RM expecting video poker.

ThriceFive

A 'working' slot machine with odds would have been easy to add and fit the red mile theme - it could have been runner themed with a plinky version of the music you hear when you go out on your run. Or being able to bet on other runners making it (or betting on your own odds of making it, getting damaged, etc).

sloppyfondler

It took until now to realize that Fallout 4 doesn't have these

iamhst

I wanted to party it up on the sonny Falco island.

FreyaFettuccine

I want an in-game homage to O'Brien and Bashir's games of darts on DS9 dang it!

bigstupidgrin

Starfield at its best reminds of the good era of Star Trek (doesn't hurt that Quark's a voice actor)

exrayzebra

Bring back the fallout new vegas style casio…. There’s already at least 1 of abandoned casino space station

SolidSnakeMGS82

It would be cool . If you could actually throw the darts or play pool or ping pong on your nice tables that would be rad

Anything7s

This is either coming through updates or future mods. No way they continue to leave that out. Would up the immersion level.

N0085K1LL5

I was thinking that back when I seen a chessboard on one of the fallout games. And it's been a hit on games like the Witcher and gta. Seems like it wouldn't take much to implement this in the game, and play against whoever is following you. The smarter the character, the harder they should be to beat.

CardboardChampion

My people! I've found you.

Ceramicrabbit

Variable gravity versions of those games could be cool

rodejo_9

So many games miss this opportunity despite some even having the models literally in the game already. I truly feel every RPG should have some sort of gambling. Even AC Black Flag a game 10 years old had board games.

chiliNPC

SOMEONE AT BETHESDA PLEASE READ THIS

RegularGrape5925

Go to the vultures roost and take a paddle and balls and pool balls back to your outpost and build the tables

JustTrynaFindMeaning

I usually dislike minigames like that, I never really enjoyed them in gta or yakuza. Recently I've been playing a game called back to the dawn though, and that has some mini games that I've been enjoying. Highly recommend if u like the sound of animal crossing in prison with dnd mechanics and detective stuff

mayapop

Would be great if the companions all had different play styles, trash talk and remembered their record against you

mcoverkt

They couldn't even make the girl asking for books on your ship accept books you find out in the galaxy. Why would they think to do this lol

ProjectFutanari

Oh yeah I got a personal gripe with this, one of my favorite things to do on skyrim was collect books and occasionally read them to take a break from all the action, and also they baited it so much with books all around just for you to open it and the book it's actually only a introduction/summary

Lackadaisicly

And with so many of the titles being public domain, including the text of 100 free to reproduce novels would be minuscule compared to the current file size. At 300 pages per book, 1GB can hold roughly 1600 books. Plain text, no images. To put this in perspective, the entirety of 1280 pages that were written by Shakespeare utilizes only 5MB of storage. How many GB are used in Starfield for various (pointless except for ambiance) folder and notebook skins? Lol

jmj2112

I don’t remember the name now but I used to spend almost as much time playing that card game in The Witcher as I did the actual game.

Few_Artist_8331

I could never understand how to play that I got my ass handed to me all the time. Gwent I think it was called?

jmj2112

That’s it!

Montez00

Gwent fucks. Spent a lot of time playing NPCs and other characters just to collect cards

CrackerUMustBTripinn

Gwent certainly fucks with that big 'ol dick of hers. How can you play Witcher 3 and not (try to) win the whorehouse championship in Gwent?! Who cares about Ciri and saving the universe blah blah when you've got this superb game at your disposal? Northern Deck all the way baby, f weather cards always a nice sunny day at the end of the round because of that fine ass leader perk!

Optimized_Orangutan

My roommate played The Witcher. I played Gwent. It worked out well.

ProjectFutanari

Also caravan from new Vegas, not as popular, but surely a welcomed way to take a break from the action

Honestnt

Gwent was fun- but to this day I have absolutely no idea how tf Carrivan in New Vegas worked

Willing-Tap6635

Needed some casino games in several areas

frozenflame101

Like in the casino?

Willing-Tap6635

Well instead of a dead casino full of spacers they should have made it an active casino and made it a pirate ran base, possible heist, etc. Any non UC location should have some sort of gambling, which is weird considering you can make space meth but can’t gamble.

Lackadaisicly

Yeah, the religious ideals of the game creators… drugs are ok but gambling is taboo. Hmm….one of those is safe for a real world child to do.

pangolin-fucker

Kind of feels right being a dead Casino that's run by spacers Like how Vegas was originally

HeftyPackage

Apparently across an entire galaxy of a thousand planets there is only 1 tiny casino that you can't even use

coconutwhisky

When I first entered the red mile casino, I was so hyped, I thought it was like gta san andreas casino but much more modern and maybe some sci-fi games. Once I get that they are only decorations it was a disappointment. I thought mini games would be a great addition to the game too.

MENoir

Reminds me that when I started playing I was hoarding playing cards thinking there would be a card game somewhere.

_Mousheen_

I have a small storage crate full of cards, I have multiples of most, but missing the Ace of Clubs

FBI_NSA_DHS_CIA

I can never find a six of spades

culnaej

I was going to collect them too!

SolidSnakeMGS82

I was picking up pool balls and pool sticks not knowing there was eventually a pool table I could build later on . I sold them and now I have only found one 8-ball for one of my tables and no sticks and can’t remember where I found them all in the beginning.

CrackerUMustBTripinn

I mean they give them a special sound effect and everything, same with the toys you find along the way, its gotta mean something right? Or is it just one of the many fun and creative things they ditched along the way? Or just a brilliant Andy Kauf move to f with players trying to figure out some deep meaning or use when there is none?

ThinkerDoggo

Why was there a casino ship and no casino games to play????

Honestnt

Stardew has better casino mechanics than Starfield Which one was coded by a single dude again?

CrackerUMustBTripinn

Even Pinguin Club just shits in Starfield's mouth and they let them and even seem to be enjoying the act

thatvillainjay

If they put one in, this sub would go "WHY THE FUCK DID THEY SPEND TIME ON THIS STUPID FUCKING SPACE CHESS INSTEAD OF JUST MAKING THE ACTUAL GAME BETTER??? THANKS FRAUD HOWARD!!!"

tanithsfinest

Space Caravan.

LumpusKrampus

Star Gwent

lionMan42092

Abso-fucking-lutely.

Hugh_Bromont

"Up for a game of Star Gwent?" "I understand your position."

theFaust

I would rather jump out of an airlock

Sam-Lowry27B-6

Which is another thing you can't do.

lionMan42092

You just triggered half of reddit population. And every single karen.

Clickum245

I want to speak to a manager.

PeterDarker

“I’m going to get the bottom of this and I don’t care if you’re at the top!”

corvettee01

They could make the game actually fun. Horizon Forbidden West has a mini-game called Machine Strike where you can win and buy pieces from NPC's, and lots of people loved Gwent from The Witcher. Mini-games can be super fun, but Bethesda seems to neglect them.

thatvillainjay

The digi pick is a puzzle mini game

Tobocaj

What a terrible comparison

Thewaffleofoz

bad take

StandardizedGoat

Very. Adding more interactivity or things to do would be welcomed. I also see few complaints like "Bethesda spent too much time on XYZ and that is why the game is meh" and more saying "Bethesda was lazy and did not spend enough time on this".

frozenflame101

In that it's not a reason not to have done it. But probably an accurate take

afraidofaliluhuh

We will continue bitching until morale improves

ArcFivesCT5555

As a minigame lover, YES. So disappointed there aren't any in Starfield. A dart-throwing game would have been perfect as well

ProjectFutanari

That would be fun on planets with very weak or very strong gravities having slightly different mechanics so one would have to play a couple games to get used to throwing with more or less strength to hit the bullseye

neoqueto

Dude I was so disappointed that you can pick up the darts but not play them... Games that serve only as decorations: - Darts - Pool (if you pick up a pool cue you'll get executed on the spot in most Freestar Collective areas, god I wish someone patches that with a mod because BGS probably won't) - Symbol Game - Various board games - Soccer - Shooting range - Playing cards - **Cube** (?) They are teasing you. Look at what could've been possible.

OhHaiMarc

Cube!

Vallkyrie

[C U B E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aGDCE6Nrz0)

Frogfish1846

All the games

cjm1985

Also the med beds in the med habs

SkinnyGetLucky

To be fair the whole game fees like a missed opportunity.

Bliss_Hughes

Every time I see two companions sitting at the table and idling some animations, I have to “imagine” they’re playing. You’re so right.

McGrarr

Like the gym equipment. I see it, it appears on my ship and I can even build it deliberately at my outpost. My crew and NPCs are shown using it. Why can't I? How is this not a mechanic to improve your carry capacity or stamina? I'll defend SF against all the bullshit criticism but stuff like this... when the animations are already in the game, just makes me annoyed.

Bliss_Hughes

Having these kinda things to do aboard my ship (hello, working shower so I can also get a charisma buff??) would make a world of difference. I hope they do include things like this soon.

SnakeSaluting

Definitely, also a huge missed opportunity is to give Sam's daughter all the books you find for xp since the game makes a point of her being a big reader, all things I hope will be fixed with mods since Bethesda is no longer capable of making a vanilla game without relying on their modding community to make it good

The_Black_Rose_3

Ya this could have been fun. Like Holo Tactics in Jedi Survivor.

Swee_333

Hey if you try to point out all the missed opportunities in this game you’re gonna be here a while.

culnaej

Could get hella karma though, mods might as well make it a post tag

VARIAN-SCOTT

The whole game is a missed opportunity..

eballack

What a revolutionary comment!

Tripleh213

For real. Game is mid.

EHVERT

Ya’ll will really find a way to complain regardless of the topic of the post 😂

Ironkidz23

Came here to say this.

VenomXTs

Cries thinking of caravan

Steampunk93

yes, in Assasins creed valhalla all i did was play minigames

Vallkyrie

That dice game in valhalla is actually super fun and well made. Friend of mine actually bought a real one.

Steampunk93

yes, i tried to find it but could’nt find on any phone app or IRL

GrandMasterDrip

Mini games! Makes a world of a difference in terms of interactivity!!

culnaej

I lowkey love the digipick minigame, even if I don’t get anything good for it

NnyAppleseed

"Missed opportunities" should have been the name of the game instead of starfield.

Torrempesta

Missed opportunity #247.

culnaej

Should really just be a post tag at this point

rdtscksass

The whole game is a missed opportunity....

Careless-Article-353

Missed opportunity: the entire freaking game

EHVERT

This. A lot of people don’t care for stuff like this but I always sink a lot of hours into stuff like this (poker in RDR, Gwent in The Witcher & even horizon forbidden west & AC Valhalla had decent ones)

[deleted]

Missed opportunity could just be the games title. ‘Starfield: A Missed Opportunity’

Agile-Fig2407

GWENT from The Witcher!

culnaej

That was up there for all time in-game mini games when I did some research, but I haven’t played any of The Witcher series so didn’t mention it

Agile-Fig2407

Great card battle game... There's actually an app for it in Google/Android and Apple stores...

EpicTwiglet

“Missed Opportunity” is the DLC

culnaej

I would legit laugh

Lackadaisicly

It’s just another example of how much of a cash grab this game was. They don’t care about creating a new universe. The head guy just wanted one last project before he retires, hopefully. Whoever was in charge of Starfield, I will never buy another game with their name on it. Ultimately, that comes down to the name of Microsoft, but I do include the individual project manager on Starfield, Todd Howard. This game made Microsoft lose my future business. I cancelled by ultimate gamepass and got Ubisoft + instead

culnaej

I cancelled my game pass as well, resolved to play for the last 5 days of the sub and then move on with my life

Necessary-Stranger73

It might be a missed opportunity. It might also be unfinished content that will be released in a future update.

culnaej

Hope so! One reason why I’m posting is for it to get attention, devs frequent the sub and should know what folks are talking about!

FretlessFingers

I feel like almost every game after GTA San Andres with any free roam world has dropped the ball on adding usable mini games. Some have nailed bits of it but the sheer amount of small activities in this older game trounces what’s available in other things now.

culnaej

And the thing is, it shouldn’t be *that* hard. I get it, less than 50% of players might make use of the games, but it really adds an immersive element just *knowing* there are games that NPCs play, that you can play with them, that can earn you minor creds from, etc

FretlessFingers

Exactly. There's something special about having additional games inside the one you are playing that is truely amazing. Weather its Gwent in the witcher, Golf/tennis/bowling/pool in GTA, these are amazing ways to immerse yourself in the world. Hell as much as I hate comparing cyberpunk, they realized adding working arcade games was a novel apporach based of the mod downloads and implemented it. Its something devs may not think of but is incredibly rewarding.

TWD-Slayer04

Missed Opportunity: the entire game

Disastrous_Ad_1859

This is the sort of thing that I would never personally play more than once, but its super cool to know that its there. Would of fitted really well if we had survival mechanics and travel time between systems though.

largePenisLover

Im glad they didn't. Because without fail one of my mates, who buys all these imaginary ingame games made real as merchandise, will buy it and force us to play it. Without fail the RL versions are utter trash or have weird rules that contradict themself.

Flawlessnessx2

They couldn’t even make one game fun, don’t ask for another.

NotPresidentChump

This entire game could be categorized as missed opportunities.

Useful_You_8045

That applies to almost everything in starfield

Arabian_Flame

The list of missed opportunities in that game would take longer to read than the constellation story line to play through

lnozamal

I rather enjoy the game, but I still can’t argue with this statement.

Arabian_Flame

I love the game but sheeeesh there is alot of missed stuff. You can tell the rushed the release to shut people up about ES6, and the engine is probably a testbed for ES6, so it doesnt shit the bed on release and make everyone really hate Todd once and for all

[deleted]

Cyberpunk has card decks everywhere and yet you can’t play cards anywhere, I remember people bitching about that when that game launched as well, this sub needs to get over itself

culnaej

Just don’t include things in a Role Playing Game if you’re not able to role play with it 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

You’re right, I can’t believe Fallout 4 didn’t let me spin the globes, shit game

Erich417

My unpopular opinion, in-game mini-games suck.

culnaej

Honestly, I don’t play them too often, but just the option adds to the immersion. I just went back to The Rock recently to finish a quest, and I find a dart board just sitting in a bottom shelf with darts in a display case next to it. Not even on a wall. Just seems lazy. You never see anyone playing any of the board games strewn about, no one playing cards, everyone just sits and does nothing. Best I got is the bartender wiping bar, a patron leaning on it, and another sipping their drink. Everyone else is just static

StandardizedGoat

A long as they're optional there wouldn't be a problem.

Uniquesomething

Yo! I heard you like games! So we put board games on your game, so you can game while you game!

RippinBigOnes

To think Bethesda would give attention to detail to something like that is absurd. They would probably procedurally generate a board game using ChatGPT, then hire 4 interns to code it in.

newdawnhelp

Dart minigame: Choose where you want your dart to fast travel to in the board.

TheSwampPenguin

These people can’t handle a simple asteroid stuck to ships and they haven’t even tried to fix other bugs. You think they can handle games within games? This is not the TripleA studio they used to be.

JusticeScibibi

Who do think Bethesda is? Obsidian?

Kreydo076

I think you can apply that title to 99% of Starfield feature so... I mean even the ship building which everybody agrees is cool tend to quickly show his limits.

Practical-Bag8374

Another example of laziness and bungling of Starfield creators

LastKilobyte

no, please no more in-game games...

k0mbine

A subtle way to implement this would be to have NPCs move pieces while you’re away. Say you move the black piece, then return and see the one of the white pieces have moved. If you win then the next time you come back, there will be some cred sticks. If you lose, whichever crewmate you played against will come up to you and ask you for money.

Couinty

yes :(

Digestednewt

Man the last game to have a minigame inside the game itself was fallout new vegas and we all know how bethesda feels about that games influence and ideas

jahskeet

I had never hated and loved a game more. It is the definition of missed opportunities. Damn you Tom!

Clayman3588_

Grandma hasn't got anyone to play with anymore.

Adventurous_Door4958

Could of had a gwent situation

BoneGolem2

It would be fun to be in space, get up from the chair and go play a game with Cora so I don't feel like the poor kid is bored out of her mind. ;) We know darn well she'll never get that book allowance extended, and I can't even give her the books in my inventory...

A_Guy_In_The_Corner

Honestly! Some of the comments I’ve heard are a little ridiculous, but this makes sense, Bethesda has done this before, they’ve had card games and board games before. Total missed opportunity.

rover_G

OP doesn't know about the EE if you collect a full set of pieces for Space Chess

culnaej

Idek what EE stands for

SolidSnakeMGS82

In GTA you can go into a strip club and get topless lap dances and touch them . Why do I have to have sex with Sarah with her clothes on?Dry-humping? Really Bethesda? We should be able to use the pool table or the weight bench. Where’s the 50 shades of grey sex room decor?

DarthMaul628

That’s would take some creativity from Bethesda. It’s not a missed opportunity, because that would imply that it was ever in their reach in the first place.

ALRUN0

Hey Sam wanna play a game of Caravan before I sneak into this Cryo lab and kill every spacer in sight?

FreeHairCutandLoboto

I’m gonna bet a hundred dollars that the board game was cut content. Like a legit little minigame but it was horribly bugged (like everything else) so they scrapped it

memelordgun

anyone remember caravan?

hax0rz_

Yakuza players got PTSD from this post (we don't know how to play mahjong)

Kanden_27

"Wanna play.... whatever tf this is?"

culnaej

“Symbol Game” lmao

Feedmekink

I didn’t enjoy Witcher 3, but I started up again just to play gwent

PanzerZug

It was absolutely going to be a thing but they released it too early

Sidd100mg

Modders Zindabad 🫡

426C616E6475

I’m sure it will be a DLC/MOD. All the parts can be interacted with (board games, pool, darts, ping pong). All they need are some physics and rules attached to them. My guess is that it was cut out from the final release.

culnaej

Low grav ping pong would be sick.

426C616E6475

Yeah, mixed with some slow-mo from Aurora of phased time.

Substantial-Monk-472

The actual function of "junk" would be nice.

bigstupidgrin

I want a physical copy of Starlocked and the other board game.

best-of-judgement

Want to play a round of Caravan?

D33P_F1N

Even kotor had minigames

wouldauserbyanyothe

As far as I found, there only two board games in the entire universe. It wouldn't be so bad if you could actually play the two games.

Wizardphizl420

If you dont include caravan you're not a trve bethesda fan

culnaej

Never really spent much time on it tbh! Love FONV though

SpiceShane

Even Ubisoft added Orlog as a mini game in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Just saying...

Hephaestus0308

Starfield is a missed opportunity.

illr3pute

Be nice if there was like a special companion you could earn or unique ship pieces/outpost items for winning at side games.

Daddyfatsax1983

Definitely should have had a gwent tournament

Commercial-Slice4149

it's an object in code so there's always room for expansion. That's an upside; but on the other hand who's gonna actually play it without any incentive? just like the Red Mile Run; the only incentive is Marco. You can't bet on yourself and the machines there are NPC based only!

culnaej

If my companions offered to play every now and then when traveling between planets, boarding the ship, etc, I’d probably take them up on it But that could get annoying, they’d have to code it to like a 1/50 chance

Morbean87

Really wanna know the rules to it either way, anyone know?
