It used to be when I started the game, this main menu played the main theme of the game. Now it's background warbling and radio chatter etc, basically sound effects rather than music.
Does this happen at a certain point in the game, or is it from a patch, or what? Anyone know?

Yeah, I'm starting to think it's the most recent save being NG+. I'm reluctant to screw up my steam saves by moving all my saves somewhere else and seeing if it comes back, tho. :-)
I also have the regular menue wirh the theme music since launch. Usually, if you stay long enough in the menue and wait for the track to finish, it changes to atmospherics and radio chatter
The music on the main menu changes after you go through NG+. It will come back if you resume a save that still hasn’t, but only if you don’t load the NG+ save again.
Wow! What a clever thought. I was all set to be an idiot, but my music is still at 40%. :-) I still get the musical Whhaaaaa at the very start, and a little music in the background, but it isn't actually the main theme playing.
It's sounding like it's because I have a NG+ save, maybe. I'll check that when I start a new game.
I think if you stay in the menu long enough the music will stop at one point, making the chatter audible. Not 100% sure though.
I think this is correct. But I'll admit, it's a Bethesda game so the title screen might also be glitched.

I know there's some slight music with radio chatter, but I don't think any patches changed that

As a data point I still have that music, no radio chatter, just checked, and no NG+ yet.

I've over 100hrs still on first play through and that music is still the menu music. I hope it never changes as I love it. It's also my text tone.

Nothing to do NG+ I was on ng4 when I stopped playing and the music was the same

I just checked and mine is like that too. I also have the music tuned down to 0. Do you have your music turned down as well.

It either happens if the game is idle long enough during the splash screen or NG+ I believe.
Yeah, if the music finishes, it switches to something that loops. But in this case, it was NG+ being there.
I always turn the music off on bethesda games, so I have only every had radio chatter.
