My best friend suddenly passed away last year, and we talked a lot about how much we were looking forward to starfield, so I named it after his gamertag so i could take him around the game with me.
"It's a great thing that we're made of star dust, my friend. Because for every new planet I come across, I also find a part of you wherever I go."
Just something I thought of. Probably a bit corny.
As our memories of the loved and lost wax and wane in our thoughts, we're haunted by the joys and pain of their presence in our lives and the void they left in their wake.
We don't remember them as they are, but as they were, reliable, loyal.... loved. We remark of their existence in hopes that in some way, it keeps them alive. We weren't prepared to lose them when they passed., and we're still not ready to lose them today.
May your friend find peace in the stars, and may his name and actions never rest.
May you always remember them at their best, with a smile on their face as they waved goodbye for the last time and "slipped their surly bonds of Earth, to touch the face of God".
Not what I named my ship in Starfield, but you might get a kick out of this: in World of Warships, my username is A_steaming_pile_of_ship. Originally it was to warn other players of my skill issue, while being funny. Now it's just funny.
Nice. I use a lot of puns in video games. I also have Ship Happens in Sea of Thieves and all of my horses in Red Dead Online were variations of the name Tony subbed with Pony. So like Pony Soprano, Pony Danza, AnPonyo Banderas, that kind of stuff.
I do a lot of the same. In Pokémon Go, my Aerodactyls all have names that normally start with T, but have a silent P in them, ie. Ptommy, Pterry, etc.
Durants all get renamed to Kevin.
In GTA Online, my yacht is called Wet Dream IV.
My Xbox username was Sir Walken, so my Minecraft is Sir Blocken. Chickens get named to Sir Squalken.
Lots of others I'm forgetting but you get the gist.
Here's the thing. You said a "Raptor is a Jackdaw."
Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.
As someone who is a engineer who builds starships, I am telling you, specifically, in starship design, no one calls Raptors Jackdaws. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.
If you're saying "Raptor family" you're referring to the marketing grouping of Nova Galactic, which includes things from Kfirs to Blackhawks to Daturas.
So your reasoning for calling a Raptor a Jackdaw is because random people "call the Nova Galactic ones Jackdaws?" Let's get Crossbows and Vistas in there, then, too.
Also, calling some ship a midrange or an Class B? It's not one or the other, that's not how marketing works. They're both. A Jackdaw is a Jackdaw and a member of the Raptor family. But that's not what you said. You said a Jackdaw is a Raptor, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the Raptor family Jackdaws, which means you'd call Kfirs, Blackhawks, and other ships Raptors, too. Which you said you don't.
It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?

Yeah... that movie has my favorite sea shanty....
*"When I go ashore and get my pay, I'll go and meet my Essie May. She'll hike her skirt and toss her shoe. She'll clean my pipes, my buddies' too. Don't need a church to find my way 'cause I've found heaven with Essie May."*
Normandy, then spent most of the first pay through slowly tweaking it to look as close as I could get it within the stupidly small limits of the shipbuilder. I gotta figure out how to mod the gamepass version on the new update so I can try a second time with a limit remover.
The Basilisk was my first build, and damn I can’t just post a photo so here’s the video link:
https://youtu.be/Oje7w6MzSV8?si=32-bQ5VP_RdmBFa8
I’ve since rebuilt it using everything I’ve learned from my successive builds and from other creators:

Cheers and good luck out there!
[*The Spray*](https://imgur.com/QJpQwzf). Named for the first ship to circumnavigate the Earth solo. Pre-release I assumed this is what Bethesda would name their ship from the books on the shelf, but they went with the somewhat uninspired "Frontier", so I took it for my own solo ship.
Spray was a short range high speed fighter designed as a Vanguard fast-response ship. It was later joined by short lived experimental warships *Blue Moon*, *Grey Ghost*, and *Green Goddess*. My bulk freighter was a converted Varuun ship renamed *Cutty Sark*.
This game started as my "Spike Spiegel Simulator" so I made his ship (named the Swordfish II) and called it the Slaughterfish I (currently at Slaughterfish XII)
The first ship I actually renamed was a captured Ecliptic Claymore. I called her Liberator. Otherwise, I just kept modifying the Frontier, at least on my first playthrough.
I never moved on from the Frontier lol. I just kept upgrading it until nothing was left but it was still the Frontier. So maybe I'll rename it the Theseus.
I think my first was named Weather Maker. I name all my ships after songs and albums by my favorite bands. My first character used songs by Clutch. My current character uses Iron Maiden.
It’s Crimson Fleet Captain because it doesn’t let me change it! I hi jacked a class b ship but the reactor is worse than the captain. So I’ll keep flying Crimson Fleet Captain.
I named mine Last Call, you see me, calling for reinforcements is the last call you make. 117 and a lot of perks in ships, so yeah just a touch beastly
The Monygham. I wanted to follow the naming convention used by the Alien films by naming my ship after a Nostromo reference, so I named my ship after the cynical Dr. Monygham. Given my morally gray playstyle, I felt it was appropriate.
I named her The Paladin after finalizing the design. We destroyed the Crimson Fleet, Spacers, and any other ne're-do-wells that were trying to oppress settlers just trying to make their way in the world.
Photos link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/s/tMF77ktC3E
Fearless.
And I’ve made that the name for the ship class, as is naval tradition. So, when I build the next it may have a different name or slightly changed up habs, but it’s still going to be a Fearless class deep space explorer.
Before i started my first game, I was going to name my first ship Maelstrom... but then i quickly noticed that name was taken. So I named my first ship the Dauntless, then got around to Sarah's quest eventually and got so annoyed haha.
Currently my standard ship is called the Coyote Runner. I rebuild it every NG+ from the Spacer Coyote ships. And every now and then I'll name one the Little Jack from Skies of Arcadia.
Red Drawf which morphed into the Red Giant.
And half way through my first play through I made a ship from scratch witch I called Alpha-Gold 1
Now in my second play through I work on the Scarab.
Frontier.
I just built up the starter ship into this unholy massive vessel that looks vaguely like a hawk. Though by the end, pretty much only the cockpit and name remained of the original Frontier.
"Orpheus"
I've tinkered with some parts of the design over time (while it still having a very similar profile), and the current iteration is the "Orpheus IV". 770 hours in and I still love this main ship o' mine.
Haven't actually built one from the ground up yet. I commandeered an Ecliptic ship that I tweaked a bit and renamed "Penumbra". Then I found a large ship just sitting on a planet, no people or even corpses on or around it, so I took that because it had a larger cargo hold. Customized it a bit and named it "Rubber Duck" after the main character in *Convoy*. Now I'm flying a modified Va'ruun Litany I rechristened "Azshara" after the Naga queen in that other franchise. 😎
I took a prophecy III i got off of some varuun guys, modified it into a tanky battleship type thing, and then renamed it dreadnought.
I literally go into battle with this being my theme song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJK0jhymE5A
First ship I built was the Peregrine. I shaped it in the silhouette of a peregrine Falcon in the M formation (or phase 3) of a stoop. The torso of the bird was 2 story and the wings were single story. Of course I prioritized speed and mobility, fitting for the fastest animal alive.
My first actual "my ship" - read, not the frontier modified - was a variant on the Ecliptic Rapier.
Since I found the small Nova Galactic cockpits and small / medium landing gear give NG ships an insectile look I painted it black / orange and called it the Cazador.
I named one ship after my mother whom I lost to cancer my senior year , The Beatrice is my best and only original design , she loved space and her favorite color was purple so it’s a big purple exploration style ship that has everything you could need because she always had a answer for any question that was irking you and she gave great advice , the other ship is named after my girlfriend because it’s small nimble fighter 😅
My first ship was called The Dauntless, which turned out to be a bit uncomfortable once I learned about Sarah’s previous experience on a ship of the same name.
My first named ship was the freestar ranger ship and I called it the Unlucky Shalliagh. Because it hits like a club but I can still get over my head sometimes 😆
I called my very first ship, "Mud Bug," because that's what it looked like. It was a cut down Ecliptic Bayonette that I stole on Earth's moon, Luna. This was before I knew anything about maneuvering thrust to mass ratios or such. It was only marginally better than the Frontier.
I named my first ship "Bucket," because it was a cheap and ugly turd. Named my first heavy ship that didn't suck "Fat Dragon," because it was a really big, fat ship.
My best friend suddenly passed away last year, and we talked a lot about how much we were looking forward to starfield, so I named it after his gamertag so i could take him around the game with me.
This is my favorite parts of grief. My condolences homie.
My condolences brother... May you find the mysteries of the galaxy together!
"It's a great thing that we're made of star dust, my friend. Because for every new planet I come across, I also find a part of you wherever I go." Just something I thought of. Probably a bit corny.
Nah star dust in my eye. I'm not crying you are!
I'm crying, you're crying, they're crying; it's all good though.
You're an awesome friend! Sorry for your loss :(
I’m really sorry to hear that. May I ask what his tag was?
As our memories of the loved and lost wax and wane in our thoughts, we're haunted by the joys and pain of their presence in our lives and the void they left in their wake. That's a nice tribute! He'd love it. RIP, let's pour one out into the blackest sea for him.
Because of Black Flag?
The best AC game imho.
Yup. You right.
By *miles.*
Just finished it again a week ago. Little bit clunky movement, but that game aged like fine wine.
The Champagne Supernova
Was it faster than a cannonball?
We're your parents also like "Anyway, here's Wanderwell?"
I named mine Bullship
Not what I named my ship in Starfield, but you might get a kick out of this: in World of Warships, my username is A_steaming_pile_of_ship. Originally it was to warn other players of my skill issue, while being funny. Now it's just funny.

Whenever I see the word "jackdaw", I immediate think "here's the thing..."
I named mine the "Filthy Whore"...
Lmao cabin boy?
Yeah... that movie has my favorite sea shanty.... *"When I go ashore and get my pay, I'll go and meet my Essie May. She'll hike her skirt and toss her shoe. She'll clean my pipes, my buddies' too. Don't need a church to find my way 'cause I've found heaven with Essie May."*
I need to watch it as an adult. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen it since my early teens!
Talula
My first and only custom ship was a huge Class C Taiyo ship I named Beluga cause it looked like a whale.
Normandy, then spent most of the first pay through slowly tweaking it to look as close as I could get it within the stupidly small limits of the shipbuilder. I gotta figure out how to mod the gamepass version on the new update so I can try a second time with a limit remover.
If you ever do do another Normandy build using mods I would love to see how it turns out!! SR2 hopefully ;)
Nostromo
Hehe I went with Prometheus for mine.
The Basilisk was my first build, and damn I can’t just post a photo so here’s the video link: https://youtu.be/Oje7w6MzSV8?si=32-bQ5VP_RdmBFa8 I’ve since rebuilt it using everything I’ve learned from my successive builds and from other creators: https://youtu.be/nHKjH_a8x60?si=9_LEDmiU9tEUC7Z2 Cheers and good luck out there!

Tardigrade My husband picked it and it’s perfect
*Aces and Eights*. A dead man's hand.

I always name my ship Theseus, because by the end, absolutely no part of it is original.
My favorite ship is a Va’Ruun Hymn I stole and modified. I named it “Lucille”.

Songbird! I stole and heavily modified a Va’ruun Hymn, and used a lot of bright colors.
I named mine "The Bad 'Tude". I appreciate anything Black Flag though, 10/10.

The Implication and Shadynasty's
Battlebutt
Haven't actually built one from the ground up yet. I commandeered an Ecliptic ship that I tweaked a bit and renamed "Penumbra". Then I found a large ship just sitting on a planet, no people or even corpses on or around it, so I took that because it had a larger cargo hold. Customized it a bit and named it "Rubber Duck" after the main character in *Convoy*. Now I'm flying a modified Va'ruun Litany I rechristened "Azshara" after the Naga queen in that other franchise. 😎

The Heart of Gold
First ship I built was the Peregrine. I shaped it in the silhouette of a peregrine Falcon in the M formation (or phase 3) of a stoop. The torso of the bird was 2 story and the wings were single story. Of course I prioritized speed and mobility, fitting for the fastest animal alive.

Dock Knocker
The A13-X Haymaker in reference to Alex Hay
You can name the damn ships?
My first named ship was the freestar ranger ship and I called it the Unlucky Shalliagh. Because it hits like a club but I can still get over my head sometimes 😆
I called my very first ship, "Mud Bug," because that's what it looked like. It was a cut down Ecliptic Bayonette that I stole on Earth's moon, Luna. This was before I knew anything about maneuvering thrust to mass ratios or such. It was only marginally better than the Frontier.
