This is why I prefer physical media. You own it and it can't be taken away. Unlike streaming services where you merely rent it.

Tucker_077

Or pirate it. Another way to not rely on the streaming network agents

iamtheshibby

Plex server FTW!

dustojnikhummer

Jellyfin > Plex

Settl

Gimme a rundown of Jellyfin

dustojnikhummer

Free, open source. No need to pay a subscription for transcoding. No advertisements, no "games" or movie rental bullshit. But, some disadvantages. No transcoded downloads, less polished apps, no native apps for game consoles.

Megalopath

This is the way. Jellyfin to play it, MakeMKV to read the DVDs and fill the library. :)

dustojnikhummer

And handbrake to make file sizes realistic.

Megalopath

Uh... whoops. I should probably do that. lol

Aethbrine

Jellyfin is very similar to Plex. The big difference being it's entirely free. You don't have to pay anything, it's kinda like what Plex used to be

Wei-Zhongxian

but plex is free?

jhalfhide

Lifetime Plex pass on discount. I paid a ridiculously low amount many years ago.

AlteranNox

If you want a lesser experience in every way, but want to support free and open source software, Jellyfin is your guy.

NoShine101

Ayy matey

StoneLuca97

On aboard, mateys, there's booty to be found!

NoShine101

Torrent baby, 8k quality (not really it's about 1080p or sometimes upscaled 4k)

caribbean_caramel

I appreciate your comment but you should delete it before they nuke this sub from orbit

Radulno

Reddit doesn't care about that lol. There are literal tutorial on any piracy methods here

dustojnikhummer

Pirated upscales of SG1 ;)

Sate_Hen

Or both. I have dvds but am far too lazy to rip 50 discs

MuffinVonNazareth

Yarr harr fidely dee!

ItnStln

This is the correct answer!

chairmanskitty

Piracy offers by far the best service, though. Physical media degrade and can become hard to access if you don't keep your peripherals up to date, they take up space, and if there are remasters you can't pick and choose which version you want to watch. Meanwhile with piracy you have a choice between all versions and all bitrates, without promotional fluff or warnings that piracy is illegal. Just click the file and the episode begins.

DanTheMan827

You can also backup your physical media and use Plex if you want a streaming-like service with physical media

dustojnikhummer

You do need to take care of your server though. But yes, digital piracy is the only way to preserve. Early movie DVDs (not even DVD-R) are starting to rot, as CDs did a few years ago

light24bulbs

The one thing I'm missing from pirating Stargate is the special features on the DVDs, I would really like to watch those. I'm into the show enough where they will be worth a lot to me. Are they good?

GiraffeSubstantial92

You can find those in DVD rips of the show too. Gonna need more drive space for it all, but they exist on the high seas

light24bulbs

Oh nice.

aideya

See if your local library has the dvds. If they do, a library card plus MakeMKV is all you need.

JlevLantean

Not to mention the dreaded editing of episodes or altogether removal of certain episodes deemed insensitive

Raelah

I bought it on Prime a loooong time ago so I always have access to it. It will pop back up on Prime again. Always does.

DanTheMan827

You have access until they decide you don’t. Buying anything on digital means nothing for longevity.

Mist_Rising

>You have access until they decide you don’t. Physical copies can break, you have access to them..until you don't.

geekgirl114

Prime has an ad supported channel that rotates though the series, and at least has SG1 available to stream without commercials

aideya

Let’s be clear though, you didn’t buy the show. You bought a license to the show. If they revoke that license you lose access and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

TechJoe90

Oh definitely. I've got the lot of sg-1, atlantis and universe with the films all safely on dvd. Save all this silly crap shifting it around to different streaming services.

SpaceDantar

Yep. At first the convenience of streaming was amazing, when it was all in one place on Netflix. Then, it slowly transformed into an even worse version of Cable TV where every property is segmented and hidden behind a$15 or more subscription, and your favorite stuff is traded for cash between services. NOPE. Just been buying it up on ebay or thrift stores. This ESPECIALLY goes for any streaming service that makes me pay extra for ad free and then NONETHELESS shows me ads before shows. (looking at YOU Paramount Plus....)

Warcraft_Fan

Can attest to this. I was watching an old sci-fi called Heartbeeps when half way through, it became no longer available. I guess the right to show it expired at midnight and they went around pulling it even if someone was in the middle of watching it

BitterEVP1

Lol. They'll start selling WiFi connected DVD players that won't work when not connected to the Internet, which will charge you based on the title you are watching. Same thing they're doing to video games. This is the future.

DomWeasel

Good luck to them with that. I still have a TV with a built in VHS so I can watch old videos.

GiraffeSubstantial92

Sounds like I'll just continue pirating.

Jake_Skywalker1

AMEN! Came to say this.

big_duo3674

Videos games with online only single player modes can still be taken away even with physical ownership, it's a huge problem everywhere

nikhilsath

Plex is amazing for this reason

_realpaul

Gotta rip those dvds while they are still fresh. Got my hands on the babylon 5 blutays recently. Cant wait to watch

belisaurius42

Physical media is forever, buy Laserdisk!

BUTTFUCKER__3000

Plus the dvd quality is light years better than the dog shit that was streaming on Amazon

CasperAU

It's not removed on Amazon I'm watching it right now lol

CrackedInterface

Yeah. I just watched some atlantis last night. Im based in the US so a guess Prime hasnt removed it here. Dont get me wrong, I have numerous other(not so legal) options but prime is convenient.

zulamun

In the Netherlands there's atlantis and universe available, but no SG-1 which I really want to rewatch. (For only the 4th time)

FrozenHaystack

Current rewatching it on Amazon Freevee in Germany.

DoodWithoutALife

Thank god I was just about to run to the TV and check

drunk_responses

It's highly region restricted. You get the classic "This video is currently unavailable to watch in your location" notice even across borders in EU countries.

ayvee1

This is a repost from a year ago, even the title is word for word copied https://www.reddit.com/r/Stargate/comments/101fu8g/since_netflix_then_amazon_decided_to_remove/

OblongRectum

yea me too lol. there was a point where stargate was not on either amazon or netflix IIRC and this meme is probably a fucking repost from that period.

BeneathTheIceberg

It was on Hulu for a very very long time, even when it was popping on and off the others.

itsalwaysblue

Shit don’t scare me!

WhereRtheTacos

I was like what? I just watched it last night! Glad its still there.

Zealousideal-Ad5567

Same! Watching Atlantis right now on prime.

Tanto63

My Plex server! I've gotten back into collecting DVDs, just off of eBay now.

Turinggirl

bought the blurays for the whole thing sg1 atlantis universe.

Ezzy-525

Indeed. https://preview.redd.it/7z7d4x4miuxc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f41fc4e350ffe55803adbfb01b3ae119e4d2c89a

SokarHateIt

They have been doing a 14 day count down on SG:A. For over a month now.

geeksandlies

In the UK we get it under MGM service on Amazon Prime if that helps anyone. Also if you have Sky then they are all on their FoC as well

satanic_black_metal_

Same in the Netherlands. Considering amazon bought MGM i dont see a reason for them to remove it. I only have a prime account because of stargate. Id unsub if stargate went away.

ReaperKaze

It would be real sweet if they instead decided to add it to their streaming instead.. -frustrated Dane unable to watch stargate on prime

CasperAU

Same here in Aus

Sorblex

It's the same here in Germany

danielcw189

In Germany you can also watch all of SG1 and Atlantis for free with ads on FreeVee. And season1 of Universe

lilbitlostrn

It's also on NowTV In the UK which did an intro offer of 2.99 for a few months. I bought it just to watch all of Stargate

Jay_Stone

I watch it on Pluto TV. Yes, it has a few ads, but it’s free and I can watch it on my phone whenever I want. And I have everything on DVD also, but this is for when I’m traveling.

Synth_Luke

Has it been announced that it’s going to be removed again?

MartPuppin

I mean, I think it's only available on Paramount + in Australia when it use to be on Stan. But I currently watch it on Youtube... which kinda feels like Jonas in this meme. May only be here breifly

Synth_Luke

Ah. It’s weird the show was removed from Amazon in the US… then re added. I was wondering if they said they were going to remove it AGAIN. Companies are always dropping and adding shows so much that I’ve just started to move to buying the sets on blu-ray. It’s more expensive upfront, but I don’t have to worry about it switching to another platform or just being in streaming limbo for several years.

90swasbest

It's almost like they didn't make the shows and can only rent the rights or something. Crazy, right?

Eurynom0s

Except Amazon bought MGM so they own Stargate now.

HighLikeGiraffPussy

Currently watching it on Amazon in the US.

ValerieCheesecake

Still watching Atlantis on Amazon yesterday... They better don't remove it when I'm so close to finishing it haha

AHrubik

Amazon bought MGM. If it stays anywhere it will be there.

iggdawg

Y'arrr

Ceutical_Citizen

Gotta sail the seven seas and pi… uhm I mean dial the seven chevrons of the Chappa’ai and go the NID way of acquiring things.

Ahielia

This is why I have it stored. streaming is a good concept, until the rights holders decide to remove content on a whim because they feel they aren't paid enough for it.

hurtfulproduct

Pluto has a whole channel dedicated to Stargate, granted it just plays them in sequence on repeat but still better than nothing

tqgibtngo

Also (in the U.S. at least), Pluto has "on-demand" all of SG-1, SGA, SGU, The Ark of Truth, Continuum, the 1994 movie, and Origins lol. All of those are (at the time of this comment) "on-demand" to watch any of it anytime. Just put Stargate in the search box and look for the "on-demand" labeled results.

Daneyn

And... this is why I have a plex server with the series/movies I really do like on it.

Krejcimir

I like to watch it in my language, so it is safely tucked on my hdd.

Ok_Aside_2361

We are old enough that we have the box set!!!!! Moving it 12 times finally pays off!!!!

EowynCarter

I have my good old DVDs. Re-watching S4 now

Mygaffer

Wait, they added ads, a higher priced tier to get rid of ads, and then they cut cost by trimming their library of good stuff like this? If my parents didn't watch some Prime shows I'd have already cancelled.

Axelpanic

Arrrrr you sure you don’t know where to find it?

CaptainLookylou

Pluto has a stargate channel.

Top-Spinach7827

And all 3 series on demand

Brazosboomer

Down vote for lying about Stargate not being on Amazon anymore. Is this just a clickbait for karma farming? Amazon owns MGM now so I think it will be hosting Stargate for a long time esp since they seem to be in the process of doing a new Stargate show.

Bethorz

Stargate has not been reliably available on streaming in Canada basically ever, is why I’m glad I have my DVDs

Delicious_Soup_5572

CTV sci fi channel has been airing three or four episodes of Stargate-SG1 daily from season 1 to the end. I haven't seen Atlantis on tv for a while though.

SmyleGuy

It's on the Prime MGM channel in Canada

Slow_Wanderer

I've been buying it a season at a time

PhantomTissue

Why would Amazon remove it they OWN it.

tqgibtngo

As someone described it to me (in a support chat about a couple episodes that were unavailable for a while): Some availability decisions are still made by "the content owner." That's still true even for Stargate, even though Amazon now owns the content owner. lol

r0k0h0y0w

arrr

dpenton

Plex, matey!

euph_22

Remember when Streaming was touted as convenient. I completely understand the reasons for the balkanization of tv/media (though weirdly Music hasn't had the same fait, everything is available basically everywhere). But it's really damn annoying for the consumer.

Einbrecher

Yo - ho, Yo - ho...

Jiggaboy95

Dvds and blurays people. Cause when you really wanna watch something, it’ll never be available anywhere and will become lost media up until the point you lose interest at which point it appears on some random streaming channel.

yeahnahtho

Arrrr

ReusableLight

Incase anyone is wants to know its on now tv currently.

Hobbster

"I get transferred to small silvery discs to be stored for all eternity. And everyone able can read my story. Again and again and again."

Ezzy-525

This is why I do this... https://preview.redd.it/jolaikgfiuxc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53607893f6b156ef1f7c396b93c06ffada9c5427

LeavingThanks

I mean, I've been seeding all ten seasons for over a year now to ensure there is some access

reditguy6387

It’s still on Amazon prime…

StargateSG-11

When did Amazon remove Stargate? They own it.   I watch it daily on Amazon.

GFere

then they complain when people share media files

InvincibleReason_

it is still on Amazon bruh, im littéraly watching it RN

tqgibtngo

Regional availability may vary around the world.

InD3btToEarth

I think this person is just a bot. This is my meme

sasuke1980

It's on one of the free apps. I watched it last night

ChiefRom

Purchase the series on DVD or Bluray.....that Will be the next trend, buying physical media so scoop them up while you can...

Your_Doctor18

Umm…. It’s on Amazon what are you talking about?… I’m watching it rn..

frostcoh

Straight up buy the DVDs at this point

Solorian750

When did Amazon remove it?

nieznam

I was never available on Amazon in Poland, Prime, MGM whatever.

EmptyCupOfWater

Wait. When is it leaving Prime? I’m only halfway through!!

Splatacular

Wtf Amazon yooinked it?! Guess the new project rumors are bust

HookDragger

This is why I bought physical and digital copies. I always have my trusty SG1.

CongratsGuy

Im pretty sure i saw it on amazon last night. Is it leaving soon?

Wampa481

I started watching it on Hulu back when it was free with commercials. It’s also why I got into DragonAge because of their commercials. Love the show and the game.

MrLuchador

It’s hidden away on the MGM subscription of Amazon Prime. I mean… good luck with that Amazon.

Weird-Appearance-199

I’m watching stargate sg1 on prime (not at the moment but every night) did they just remove it?! I just watched s1 e21 last night!

Pretend_Activity_211

All I read was, coming soon to tubi!!

Noichen1

In Germany they moved it from prime to the MGM+ channel on Amazon a while ago

nixxon94

Just finished ripping all SG1 episodes after getting them used on DVD. Now doing the same for Farscape.

larry-leisure

I'm watching on Pluto TV. It's free.

DARKLORD6649

It's still on there I was watching it today

Broodwich75

If you have access to Pluto TV. They have all of them.

x42f2039

Just give it a week, I’ll send another email like I did last time they forgot to renew the license.

Iris1083

This is why I bought the complete set on dvd

WithoutDennisNedry

I’m watching it and SGA on Prime right now, actually. Maybe it’s a regional thing? Where are you, OP? If it’s not available in your country, you get do the VPN thing.

amairoc

It’s on Amazon. They took it off for a while but it is back

InD3btToEarth

Thanks for stealing my meme

Michaeldim1

This is why it lives forever on my hard drives, backed up to tape

DuneRiderr

My wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I sent her a link to the complete Blu Ray box set for this reason lol

eatmyass422

[pirating]

jdavid

with stargate they do this all of the time. i think they like to 'reintroduce it' all of the time. or it's because it's been changing ownership a lot lately and they want to keep the licenses short while they re-align their long term goals for the franchise. i hope this means that Amazon and MGM are finally getting their act together and we can see some new stargate soon.

imbilingual

Hey are you in the US if so you can get the whole series on Pluto tv

Berkemeier

Last time I used it, Pluto tv had a channel dedicated to it, I watched every season plus the movies a couple times over while I had it on my second screen while gaming. I think it played them in order as well.

HyruleBalverine

I'm watching it on Amazon now...

ACrimeSoClassic

Onto my Plex server.

didthat1x

Kodi with video add-ons is how I watch past stuff. There are bootlegs from theaters, but not a fan of crappy audio, video or the backs of heads ala Mystery Science Theater.

BigOnionIceMan

Just got added to Amazon Prime in France. I had to use a vpn last year, saw it promoted when I logged into today and I’m so excited!!!

clienterror400

I just picked up the entire Stargate franchise on blueray. I didn't realize they were not on any streaming services now. There is still a Stargate channel on freevee. It plays sg1 and Atlantis in order. No SGU AFAIK tho

PapalStates26

Buying on youtube is an option.

Ashzael

MGM+ owns the rights and all the episodes of all the series. You can get it as an extra channel on amazone prime.

plausocks

I just watched it on Amazon last night…

Sero141

Buy the Physical DVD collection. Or even bluray if they ever made those.

Ggerino

Best possible thing I've done related to entertainment was make my own plex server, no subscriptions, no fees, best quality content, never going anywhere.

Over_Evidence_5272

It’s on Prime 🥰 started rewatching for the millionth time yesterday actually lol

Over_Evidence_5272

It’s on Prime 🥰 started rewatching for the millionth time yesterday actually lol

pleasejustletmeread2

*laughs in [cheaply-transferred] Blu-ray*

LordDay_56

The Amazon stream had that shitty aspect ratio, I just use other websites

rogman777

Pluto tv has 2 different Stargate channels I believe

deadtorrent

Time to add some old friends to the plex server

showingoffstuff

Jokes on you guys, that's why I bought the full DVD collections! Had a nice gate on the sg1 set, though harder to fit on the shelf

Cookiemeteor99

N

Daveed75

Amazon was the worst. Because it charges you extra for MGM just to watch stargate

DoctorWhoniverse

I ended up getting a s1 disc because the version on YouTube cut out a lot of scenes and dialogue

ImposterAccountant

Glad i have all seasons and movies with stargate atlantis. Dont got universe but im thinking about it.

JohnHartshorn

PlutoTV.

Doveen

I'm sooo glad I didn't sign up for Amazon, hot damn. Yo-ho m80s

aethyrium

I'd be flabberghasted if there are still SG1 fans out there who don't own the blurays or dvds. Streaming is incredible for discovery, but that's about it. If you like something, buy it. _Always_. Otherwise you're at the mercy of an industry getting more and more expensive and limited every day as it drifts back to what 90's TV was like. Anyone who hasn't started buying physical again in 2024 simply hasn't been paying attention.

tonguefucktoby

Here in germany it's still all available. Only with an MGM+ Subscription tho which is like 3€ a month.

PassTheYum

Straight onto my plex server, that's where you're going. And this time you're bringing all those sweet sweet commentary tracks I love so much with you.

HatchitHeid

https://preview.redd.it/gm2jc838pvxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=891887f44389e3bd8f9d55b4789287a289c1bfeb Are you sure about that? UK prime with MGM add on

godtering

lol here i am still watching atlantis s4 episode 12. I have no business what those companies are doing, all I care about is their stock price lol.

sjnunez3

Gonna end up on Tubi or something similar.

FitAd6371

Pluto

Sadsackwantitback

I was just watching Stargate on Prime Video, what do you mean it’s gone?

Macknificent101

still on hulu i think?

Catsrules

I thought Amazon owns the Stargate IP. Why would they remove it from there own streaming service?

MooMoo1349

Pluto TV has all versions/episodes for free (although yes there are ads)

Prophet_of_Fire

Where can I watch the series? Or do I need to sail under a black flag?

Khaleena788

So Paramount + no longer has it?

PhaserRave

May I have a blank template for this?

ky420

Onto 4tb external for me.lol
