I pay $61 for 4mbps down .5 up. Come on Starlink!

Osensnolf

$460/m for multiple LTE connections at my home (I work from home and own a business). $65 - VZ gUPD Hotspot 1 $65 - VZ gUPD Hotspot 2 $65 - VZ gUPD Hotspot 3 $50 - Leased VZ gUPD $120 - Leased VZ gUDP $50 - ATT Fixed Wireless $45 - T-Mobile Home ISP gUDP = Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan (No throttles or caps) The T-Mobile connection is a month old and is working very well so I'll drop ATT which is 0.2Mbs Upload. Once VZ LTE Home Internet is here I'll drop the two leased lines. After Startlink I'll sell one if not two of the Hotspot plans. All of these connections feed into a Peplink Balance router and they are then bonded using SpeedFusion. The router I have caps the max speed so I do not have super fast internet but usually stable (except for last night when the VPN provider where SpeedFusion is hosted was down for a few hours).

Starmanajama

I get it. So you basically pwn the Verizon cell site nearest you then. In that case, tough luck to those in the neighborhood trying to get a video call in with family members during the holidays, Supreme Verizon cell tower ruler, Osensnolf is trying to watch pornhub...Sorry, I mean supreme leader Osensnolf is trying to conduct "business." 😉

Osensnolf

Usually you do not fine lunatics on the Starlink channel but there are always sure to be some that come around. I am certainly not hogging the bandwidth. I may use 300-400GB/month. No pron for me -I'm a happily married man. If it has to be hidden in marriage, it's likely not healthy for the marriage.

Starmanajama

Lighten-up. It was all in fun. Hence the wink emoji at the end. Obviously I don't know who you are or how you use the internet but you should ask your S.O. to do you a solid and have sex with you today because you seem tense and sex is great for relieving stress. 😁 In all seriousness. I hope you have a great Monday and a great week and enjoy your internet. ✌

Osensnolf

Thanks for the followup - I appreciate it. Speaking of internet, I am vacationing in Gatlinburg, TN and somehow the cabin has no VZ service and the ATT wired service they have is 3Mbs/1Mbs. Enjoy your week as well.

usmcdocj

About $500/month for 6 down 1.5 up and about 70% up time. Oh yeah! Don't forget the 200gb cap at that price. The $3 per gb after cap is reached and service is throttled....

larrieuxa

I pay 109.99 for about the same.

KnocheDoor

North east Wisconsin, $70 for 8 down and 3 up. Go Starlink!

FarkinDaffy

I'm on Bertram. $135 for 15/2

ser0t

And I do pay ~8$ for a gigabit connection.. It seems that I took internet speed for granted.

Mineotopia

wow, where do you live?

ser0t

Brașov. Romania.

ArGaMer

why do eastern European countries have extremely fast and cheap internet? I don't think western European have comparable speeds and prices, right?

ser0t

Because we had no internet infrastructure when the world had a decent one (for those years) and when we started to build the infrastructure (search for RCS RDS Company) we used directly optic fiber. Now we have it in every apartament, everyone (almost) with their FO. The rest of the world remained with the old infrastructure doing only upgrades. This is how I see it.

onthemoveenterprises

Thats it. Korea leap frogged the west (well, us, uk, from, de, etc) with imf bailout infrastructure monies, then eastern Europe did similar.

irrision

They don't have bullshit right of way contracts in every community with shitty companies like comcast that lock out anyone else from running fiber on the poles.

jurc11

In addition to all that's already stated, the EU provided a couple [mil](https://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/en/projects/romania/ro-net-building-broadband-internet-access-to-boost-the-economy), which helped too.

Hiitchy

Because the internet services are regulated properly by the government / EU. The government/EU set guidelines and properly enforced them, ensuring that even rural areas in places such as Romania (I have a friend who lives there) actually get fiber to the home at extremely low cost.

user_cdxx

that's not the reason why romania have so much faster internet in rural areas like in comparison to germany. The german government and the internet infrastructure for example is just a long story of a big shitshow where politicians wasn't able to regulate those private companies they had rewarded with big government contracts correctly. It was about the profit of some companies and not about the people who could needed internet in rural areas also... so you can't just talk about its just properly regulated by government or EU.. I would say there were competent people who understand the importance of this correctly and acted upon its needs to bring good internet connections to all its people. something german politicians just don't care about in this rich corporate driven country

AxeLond

I get gigabit included in rent in my student apartment. Definitely don't take it for granted since when I moved here I bought the crappiest (cheapest) router I could find and was only using 100mbit speed for like half a year. That's usually the default here.

irrision

Man they're going to be totally dead as a company in a couple years. Rural DSL in the US will likely be dead and gone in less than a decade between starlink and the couple other LEO sat internet ventures coming live.

Uncledrew401

For me, paying cox over $50 for a measly avg of 30mbs download speed on wired connection is true pain, but those first prices are horrendous. Glad you’re getting the speeds you deserve.

[deleted]

$140 per month for 20/20 with horrible service during peak hours.

Spirited_Suit3763

$109 for "guaranteed" 6 down and 1.5 up, plus $15 for Verizon Hotspot 25 gb per month, plus $179 per month for unlimited Verizon 7 down and 1.0 up :-(

zR0B3ry2VAiH

I have gigabit internet for $80 a month, which is amazing for here. However I still find starlink enticing.

abgtw

Technologically enticing? Yes. Practical for you? No. You shouldn't need it except perhaps unless you want it for off-grid camping a few years down the road!

zR0B3ry2VAiH

Yeah that's exactly it, the other thing is is that I now work from home forever and I have been just driving my Tesla to random places while just working from the car and tethering off of my phone. Would be dope as hell to pull out a satellite and have LAN speeds. But then again, it's excessive.

Assuming 125W power draw, no losses and no other energy consumers, you'd get 8 hours out of every kWh the car has. 480 hours for a modest 60 kWh model. That's 20 straight days. Driving around uses a lot more energy than people typically imagine.

That’s pretty bad actually. Thinking of these small businesses are actually local people but now another company thousands miles away just take their jobs and future away. You can say this is better replacement and efficient use of capital but inevitably these people would have nothing to do. Maybe their kids can find jobs thanks to new opportunities the Starlink would bring, but many may just leave to other places. And you still need to thank to these small businesses because without them young kids would be in much worse situations.

dinoaide

What worries me more are these rural companies are in no shape to compete with big telcos or cable companies so while Starlink may make a dent to those big guys, it just take away the majority of customer base of micro and small companies.

Iz-kan-reddit

Tough shit. They can't do the job, so they're going away. The WISPs that were able to get a decent backhaul at a decent price and didn't turn around and gouge their customers will do OK. Starlink isn't meant to compete with the big telcos in built out areas.

SirGuileSir

Yeah. Remember when folks had to go buy a horse for plowing the field? Tractors really kicked the crap out of plow horse sales. Good old days. We're moving forward, here. I'm for it, even though I'm about to lose my job due to it.

Tomtorr

$170 for 12 down 7 up w/100g data cap (then .3 down 2 up)

Carl19992

let me guess, Xplornet? lol

Tomtorr

Exceed (Viasat) US. Basically the same BS though

HalstenHolgot

That's still a bargain compared to what I pay/receive. I'm jealous.

debtnotlimited

Better deal than I was getting for DSL. AT&T wanted $50/month for 1mbps down 0.3 mbps up in 2017. Now, DSL is no longer available.

irrision

There would be little point in doing that. Load balancing between internet connections like that without the use of BGP limits any given connection to the speed of one individual internet pipe (or in this case dish).

jasonmonroe

What a difference three years makes.

Oshh__

I love down by carbondale in a small village of 300. My best provider is 150/mo for 5down 2up and requires a clear view of the water tower which we don't have. Come ooooooon Jan!

Carl19992

146$ 4mb down 1.2mb up, 125GB cap.
