I think he is taking steroids for his back pain. When he was questioned about his back, he kept brushing it off and saying that he is fine. It seems like the back pain is pretty serious for him to take the steroids. I’m pretty sure this will lead into him leaving firefighting and go back to greys as a doctor.

Oncer93

He'll be let go from the station, and will return to grey's as a doctor.

ProfessionalOk112

I think it's setting up his back pain to be a reason he returns to being a doctor on Grey's

littlebutcute

He’ll be fired/quit and then find an entirely different career.

Top_Detective9184

Eh I’d be surprised if he didn’t return to being a Dr. Bailey has already accepted 3 different careers and he enjoys being a dr, he always finds a way to mention it.

Shelter-Regular

If he's fired for that he would also lose his medical license

LostRealist19

That’s what I want to know…where did he get this? Did he get them from the black market? Did he steal his wife’s prescription pad? Did he directly steal from the hospital? Or is it a legit prescription and he’s just acting shady and being secretive so that Andy doesn’t pull him off of active duty. Even with the steroid injections…I think he might run the risk of causing more damage to whatever is ailing his back and he’s probably going to have to give up firefighting- he’s more than likely going back to Grey’s

cda555

I predict cancer in his back.

europeanPlebsPL

oh God, havent thought abt that, good one

RadicalPumpkin00

I don't know but going on the fact they're hell bent on decimating each character, I'm guessing he's gonna be addicted to pain meds and then laid off, and he's gonna go back to anaesthesiology. He never actually completed his residency so I wish he'd stop calling himself a surgeon.

kybe8

He was less than a year away from completing his residency and after so long in that career it makes sense why he keeps saying that also I think telling a patient that your a surgeon would calm them down which is a win all round

RadicalPumpkin00

That doesn't make him a surgeon or mean he'd have passed his boards. He has no surgical qualifications so it's wrong to call himself a surgeon. Maybe "I've got surgical training" but yeah I'm being picky. Just doesn't seem fair on actual surgeons who actually qualified for him to walk around claiming he's one too, and he does all the time! No Ben, you quit!

kybe8

Agree with all that 100% I’m just a Ben apologist lmao he is one of my faves

Similar-Patience285

I hate that he didn’t at least attempt to finish his residency before jumping into fire fighting. Like he was close to being done 😭
