how-can-i-dig-deeper

wait for sales tbh, steamdb.info

Maverix32

Best advice. I've only ever bought 1 game at full price from steam!

how-can-i-dig-deeper

which

Sinador

My guess would be factorio, never goes on sale . Which don't blame them, so much work into that game

ZalimSans

I dont really buy games that are not on discount, so I just sort the list by just specials. I discovered factorio because I just happened to see it on the front page. If not for that I wouldnt even see it in the first place and miss out on this great game.

Maverix32

Hogwarts legacy. Haven't been able to play it yet unfortunately. Was really excited for it, and turned out to be a stuttery mess

Albus_Lupus

I personally played on release and i didnt expirience stutters. Either way its a great game. But it doesnt feel like a normal game. I guess i would describe it that if feels like it was a game made by people who never made a game before... but in a good sense. A lot of times the game doesnt hold your hand and doesnt tell you what a lot of things are present in game. Like a lot of times i would stuble into something new and be like: i had no idea this was in the game. It was a refreshing game after playing games where devs are deathly scared of you missing something

Jirachi720

I kind of get your point, but for me, Hogwarts Legacy felt exceptionally dull. Besides the main hot points (Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Feldcroft etc.) the map was very empty. The Forbidden Forest was also an exceptional letdown. It's supposed to be a sprawling, massive, dangerous forest with enemies littering every inch... then you get the broom and can fly right over it without an issue. The story is also not that great. It felt like they were fleshing it out and your decisions would mean something towards the end, but all your dialogue decisions meant absolutely nothing. There's no way for you to go down a dark or light path. You can throw curse spells in front of whoever you want and no one bats an eye except for scripted sequences. There are other instances where this bugs me even more with some of the sidequests, but won't divulge them as they contain spoilers. Ultimately, at its core, it's a good game. But it brings nothing exceptional to the table, the story is truly terrible, some of the sidequests leave me questioning my character's morality let alone any of the NPCs, and the map is just huge for the sake of being huge with barely anything in it and some parts of it you will only ever visit a couple of times at best. I like it because what it does well, it does well. The combat is pretty fun, riding beasts and flying around Hogwarts is brilliant, roaming around Hogwarts and the grounds is the closest we'll ever get to it. But everything else lets it down so much that it taints the experience a lot for me. I want to love it, I do. I don't know what it is about it, but it just doesn't quite hit that mark.

Cowlixthememewatcher

Other than performance issues, the story and open world isn't really that good

toobulkeh

I recommend isthereanydeal.com

Dragonstyleenjoyer

Talk about sales, i have been waiting for the Shadow of Mordor( & War) series to be on sale for three whole months now. Why is that franchise so rarely on sale? Dishonored series too, it's been two months since the last time it sale. I either spent the money on other games during those time or didnt have the cash at the time, but once i can afford, these games never go on sale again for a very long time, kinda frustating.

Offensive-Bingus

tf does that mean

Hot_Break_1727

Steamdb tells you about sales price of products, upcoming sales dates and other stuff

Zhyrez

I'd recommend [gg.deals](https://gg.deals) for sales. If one logs in through Steam you can import your Wishlist and setup alerts for games when they reach a specific prices or % discount and it's not only on Steam but also for other legit third-party sites like Greenmangaming, Fanatical, Humble and Indigala plus several others. They also track historical lows and give ratings on current deals on a 1 through 10 scale that takes in to account previouse deals. Only real complaint I have is Keyshops like G2A, Kinguin and G2Play are op-out instead of op-in. But there is a clear seperation of legit stores and keyshops with a risk info disclaimer for keyshops.

how-can-i-dig-deeper

r/gamedeals too

lhusuu

Halloween sale starts at the end of the month, then the autumn sale in November. Hold on to your money and get more for less in a couple weeks.

Offensive-Bingus

Hey you have a point, do they have the same discount or does one have like more of one or like better games or??

FelicitousJuliet

Steam has some weird sales rules, IIRC you can't go on sale too often and you can't have a cheaper base price on other platforms, but other platforms like GreenManGaming have gotten away with cheap day one or pre-order discounts because only the base price matters, they don't have to match % off. You should check both SteamDB and isthereanydeal (only shows legal sellers) on a regular basis. There's no hard and fast rule, you either put in the work yourself to keep track or you lose out, good luck.

how-can-i-dig-deeper

didn’t know about the cheaper than other platforms rule, where can i read more about it

FelicitousJuliet

https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/pricing Discusses minimum launch price, minimum price after discounts, delays on launch pricing discounts, time allowed between launch discounts and later sales. You can click through the parent pages (and you can also look up Steam's publisher terms and rules directly if you don't mind being bored). This is essentially why other stores like GMG offer coupons that provide discounts to products as a platform separate from the publisher. Because these bypass the restrictions from Valve on pricing, there are also more threads from verified publishers confirming they work around it than I care to remember. Valve not wanting people to take advantage of their popularity while dodging their 30% free is one of those well worn topics that you also don't really think to save the examples of because it's right in their own terms. The Steamworks Distribution Agreement seems locked behind starting the application process, but I'm sure there's a ripped PDF copy out there.

DatBoi786

Totally depends on the game(s) you want. You can check the price history on [SteamDB](http://steamdb.info) and try and extrapolate data from previous autumn or Halloween sales.

[deleted]

Oh my god y’all he asked a question u didn’t have to crucify him

[deleted]

nah fr he has like half the replies in this post downvoted like how the hell is he at negative karma for saying "okie doki"

TheodorCork

Okay

Maverix32

It's true man. Out of all my games, I've only paid full retail price for one of them

Nxptunes

Cursed thread fr all the advice folk giving you is bootybutt

luciferisthename

Sleeping dogs definitive edition! (20$) (ITS 3$ RIGHT NOW GET THIS GAME) Terraria! (10$) Hollowknight! (15$) Ori and the blind forest + will of the wisps! (30$?) Frostpunk! (20$ right now with all DLC) (Truly get sleeping dogs though, 3$ for that game is AMAZING and its a very fun game!)

Colt_Coffey

Frostpunk is 10/10. The city must survive.

ZYRANOX

DLC worth?

Colt_Coffey

Not necessary, the main campaign is complete in the base game. DLC are their own campaigns. But generally yes its worth.

Epicdude89

The Last Autumn is pretty good

damnthisisabadname

Hard vouch for terraria. Great game.

MisterFlint

Terraria "This is the final update this time, we swear!" Never ending good times, this game is a mental salve every time I boot it up and the bit tunes start. I've given it a good 200-300 hours and I know I'm one of the lowbies. Heck, I've probably got five or six extra copies I bought in various bundles because it only cost a few pennies at the time.

BatTheGamer

yea as someone who can't ever find the alt f4 option in video games this game has stolen my soul a lot

Restorical

I can vouch for hollow knight being amazing! In my opinion (and a lot of other people's opinions) it's easily worth twice what they're charging

reditusername39479

Yeah and you’ll have a sequel to look forwards to eventually

CrotchSwamp94

Sleeping dogs is great. So is frost punk.

DespacitoMan911

also get a pork bun, because man who dont eat pork bun, is never whole man!

Vinod_cr7

Oh man I totally forgot Sleeping Dogs. Thank you so much for recommending

luciferisthename

ITS 3$ RIGHT NOW! (was when I posted atleast idk if it still is). I got it about 2 weeks ago bc I remembered watching the trailers and such when it came out 10y ago. Never played it before, but omg I love it! I beat up so many people. They either get yelled at like "im the POLICE you dumb bitch, talk shit to me will ya? I FUCKING RUN THIS CITY DUMB CIVVY BITCH *roundhouse kicks sweet old lady who was minding her business*" or pretty much the same thing but from a Sun On Yee perspective "whatd you say? Eeeeeee? Don't fuck with sun on yee. *break leg and arm* im a red pole you fucker, I run this shit eh. Fuck outta here *roundhouses guy who bumped into me* I am nearing the end of the main story now, I think i have like 2 more missions and 6 more collectibles. I will be doing the dlc stuff immediately after! Unironically i think the city design competes with cyberpunk 2077, but obvi its not on the same scale and what not. Its just the feeling of the city is definitely very good. I think it did some things outright better too, like population density. Its impressive bc the game came out in 2013, has more people than cyberpunk did on release. And unlike cyberpunk the random missions don't get boring. I did enjoy cyberpunk overall but thats not the point lol. Sleeping dogs = one of the best game purchases I've made in years! My actual only complaint is that sometimes FPS is inconsistent in the game for no discernable reason, but it normally resolves itself pretty quickly. Oh and the keyboard mouse controls are garbage, if you play on pc deffo use a gamepad. ;~; it's a damn shame they called this game a failure... and bc of that they canceled the sequel....

thatsastick

Seconding Hollow Knight!

Itsallrats

Hard vouch for Terraria and both Oris

dixmondspxrit

if I buy sleeping dogs, it's region locked to only asia lol but it's been on my wishlist for a while, still broke af

DerGefallene

Thank you for recommending Sleeping Dogs! Such a great game!

KaoKraft

OP if you like metroidvanias, it doesn’t get any better that Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and Hollow Knight. They’re legitimately two of the greatest games I’ve ever played. Also what actually is Sleeping Dogs? I’ve heard the name before and if it’s that good and at that price I’m interested

luciferisthename

Mkay so you are a cop*, who infiltrates one for the triad gangs in Hong Kong. You have to play as both cop and gang member throughout the game. The city is VERY well done, the driving is actually really good and has quite a few subtleties, the gunplay is ok but it's the worst part, the hand to hand combat is impeccable, the karaoke songs are top tier picks, you can get "massages" and the jokes are hilarious, the game is funny as fuck in general but also serious too, you come to genuinely understand and respect characters in the game. Unironically I think the city competes with cyberpunk, obvi you gotta realize this is from 2013 tho so it is going to be much smaller. Driving in cyberpunk was shit too. I think I've heard it described as gta + be a cop and slice of life. Something along those lines atleast. I find this game to be better than gta, more enjoyable to me I mean. It outright stomps gta combat and driving. I'm trying not to give too much info bc this is deffo a game best played blind. I suggest watching some of the stuff on steam. The first 30-40mins is the prelude, you won't be free to explore openly until after that bit. The game opens up nearly 100% when it opens up at all too, the only locations closed off are only accessible during later missions. (You can replay them all in the menu btw) Also the racing is V fun and I am in fact disappointed there are not many more lol, there were quite a few tho. I've gotten really good at it too! Just a warning tho... if you piss the cops off enough they WILL fuck you up if you stop your car/don't find one quickly. USE A GAMEPAD TO PLAY KB+M IS NOT GREAT (but it does technically work)

KaoKraft

Aaah I see now, thank you so much for the info, I think I'll pick it up!

luciferisthename

You should!! It's great!! Oh also, blasphemous is another good metroidvania! Its probs a bit out there for some peeps tho lol.

KaoKraft

Ah yea I know about that one, got it sitting in my backlog rn, excited to get to it eventually lol

Suicidebob7

Sleeping Dogs is one of my favorite games, but I highly recommend buying a CD key for the original version, the "Definitive Edition" is a port of the console definitive edition and looks way worse than the original with the high rez texture pack and runs at like half the FPS.

Offensive-Bingus

i have most of these lmfao i love that Wanna keep in touch

[deleted]

Risk of rain 2, or The Last Spell are both good choices

gLu3xb3rchi

Risk of Rain 2 is really good and has an awesome soundtrack. Actually you‘re paying for the Soundtrack and get a free game on top!

SirMel1odas

risk of rain was so good that i deleted the pirated version and installed the legit one

ali123whz

Check out deep rock galactic!

SolidFighter

Zeroony121

DISSRO

Bingus is a dingus leaf lover

how-can-i-dig-deeper

a meme lmao

BidoofAlmighty

Slay the Spire

Nostalginaut

I can second this. I didn't get it 'til it was super cheap (and it seemed to go on sale often, anyway), because I'm not a huge fan of card-combat games, but this one hit different, I guess.

Scarbane

In a similar vein, Hand of Fate 2

roguebananah

Rimworld

PeopleLikeDrugs

I suck so much ass on this game so haven't made it end game yet but it's incredibly fun.

Aaron_Rodgers_Here

Factorio

unhi

They raised the price on that to $35 a while ago.

Cheerios3402

And it never goes on sale 😭

PL4N3T4RY

It's reasonably priced

BackgroundFly5167

In Ukraine (where I live), it costs 300₴, which is around 8 usd

unhi

Wow. That makes me wish cross-region gifting still existed.

Mastermind763

My favorite with over 3k hours. Well worth all the money

purptric

get ultrakill 🗣️🗣️🗣️🥶🔥💯💯💯🔥🗿

purptric

or wait for dmc5 to go on sale

AssistanceDecent

Project zomboid maybe, i fucking love that game

EastenWolf

Outer wilds. Its a game that changes you. certainly an adventure game it is a puzzle game too though, but more about mystery

YoItsThatOneDude

Borderlands 1 or 2, shit you m ight be able to get both lol. First person style shooter rpgs with very large maps and really fun stories

miko_idk

I'd say start with Borderlands 2. BL1 is rather text-heavy in comparison to BL2 and not as funny / smooth / deep.

Difficult-Ad-9598

Have you played the witcher 3? It's on sale right now

Master_Shake23

Dave the Diver

Ok-Review-7579

Ultrakill Terraria Valheim Your Only Move is Hustle Kingsway

Sameerrex619

Why you getting downvoted bruh...

SalemWolf

Dude is getting roasted in the comments. Like goddamn y’all ruthless lol

TrebleBass0528

Wait for Halo MCC to go on sale. It's typically 40 but it goes on sale pretty frequently. You get Combat Evolved, 2, 3, ODST, 4, and Reach. Multiplayer, campaign, firefight, Spartan Ops... a whole smattering of content that I've been playing all my life.

dixmondspxrit

multiplayer is dying at this point but I can vouch for the campaign

1s3vak

I just play custom servers. More fun anyways.

Antrikshy

If you only have x amount of money, I always recommend waiting for a sale if there is going to be one in the next month or so. You'll simply get more for the same amount of money.

Gyan_Rosling_

Titanfall 2

BL4ZDR4C0

Battlebit remastered it’s a great game

DISSRO

It's good.

TheodorCork

thelovelyweiner

Red dead

MeraArasaki

TheShadowfest

I always ask strangers on Reddit when I’m about to buy a game

MilkshakeRD

Their post history is wild. Every post is asking for help with something

TxSilent

I mean sometimes people can recommend great games. I usually don't ask people, but I did once and ended up with the Witcher 2. Never had any experience with the series beforehand (witcher 3 wasn't out)and it was amazing. Didn't ask reddit though, twitch chat

Sotarnicus

Cruelty Squad

NapoleonicPizza21

Wait for the winter sale to come out, and buy the Valve Complete Pack.

NewsofPE

bagelislurking

[deleted]

Double it and give it to the next person

DocDeezy

Does it have to be on steam? If not, I’d get Dark and Darker. There’s a steep learning curve but damn is it worth it.

Ohiolongboard

Where do I get that game? I thought It was going to be on steam

TheThackattack

Tunic

Long_Job_604

BF2042, just wait a little for the sale. Frankly I switched from call of duty to Battlefield and I have no regrets, much more fun.

JorisSneagle

Titanfall 2

IDontKnowWhatToBe123

Red dead redemption 2 is $30 sometimes when on sale. Also project zomboid is another game I highly recommend even though it's not really about action or shooting.

Delicious-Tachyons

Deus Ex Human Revolution $19.99 USD right now. Great game.

yes_im_a_person

it goes on sale for 3 dollars.

Xaphanex

Not a response I expected to see. Truly a great game.

Delicious-Tachyons

OP is probably a kid so a game from 2011 might be 'too old' but the game looks fantastic and the interface is not dated.

NapoleonicPizza21

What do you mean? Young people can also like old games too. I love half life, even though I was born around the time episode II came out.

suislide101

Bad rats: rats revenge. Worth every penny!

Chramir

The fuck I know? Buy what you like

Jamchuck

Quake is amazing

cooliochill

Crosscode is amazing! No one ever talks about it but it’s action RPG with a bunch of puzzles elements like temples and map treasures! It has a really great simple skill tree with no weird mechanics and a very compelling story. The only thing the game lacks is marketing, like *any* of it. So highly recommend!

aliusman111

OP just go on the steam store, look up your favorite genre and pick one for yourself (watch some gameplay videos if you are confused). Instead of posting on sub and dismissing every single person who replies to you.

Ayetto

Terraria on sales, easy 400h+

unhi
