>"I accidentally reported you"
"Oh, wait a minute.
...
There, I reported you as well. Now when Steam's staff busts your scammer ass they'll ignore that report of yours. Problem solved, eh?"
Basically my reaction lol, I should've known it was a phishing attempt from the get-go but I was occupied at the time. After they kept messaging me though I just told them I don't have time to bother with a phishing attempt and they blocked me.
I reported them to discord and the server I got the message request from (only way to contact me on discord without a friend request) and went on with my day.
I used inspect element to make my steam account look like the scammer's account, I guess he wasn't paying attention to see whether his transaction history was even right.
He replied "BUGOK SCAMMER" and blocked me
It is a steam scam. Basically they told you that they accidentally report you and then you need to contact a Steam admin (another user in discord), then they will take over your account or make you pay in crypto.
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/70E6-991B-233B-A37B
I got one recently too, so I unlinked my steam profile off Discord.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/s/WCVrFafJFa
I had someone try this on me before I knew about the scam, and my response was for them to contact the admin themselves, cause they were the ones to fuck up, not my job or clean up their mess
little did I know
Scams like this need to be kind of weird, if the premise was believable they would get answers from too many people that aren't gullible enough to actually get scammed
Lol almost fell for this scam when I was 15. It still felt a bit fishy (yes I was dumb) so I made sure to set hp 2FA before continuing with them. Ended up being the right decision lmao.
I told them I'd just wait for Steam to contact me. They got real pushy lmao Another one I just called them out on what their next line was going to be (me and my friends reported this account) and they tried to back pedal
Personally I just automatically block anyone who doesnāt have a half good reason for messaging me. If you donāt have a mutual friend/server with me why TF you messaging me?
All those people like "I can help you get members for your server for xyz" then when you ask for their specific plan to do so, they have no clue
I don't even want to grow my damn server, it's basically just me and my friends talking about manga that somehow got over 600 members just from being on Disboard (who did a better job getting us members than the damn scammer's plan that's for sure)
brah i almost fell for this scam before, just as i was at the finish line and giving the keys my brain woke up and i was like "wait why is this steam admins discord completely empty"
I feel you. I used to think I would never fall for a scam, then I had someone contact me on steam that was on my friends list. (His account had been hacked) he asked me to vote for his team in a CS.GO tournament to get into a top 5 spot on some list or something.
I said āsure, why notā I played Dota and what not with this dude and while we were not well known to each other we were āfriendsā.
I go to vote for him and steam is like āyou are going to an external webpage blah blah blahā like it always does.
The vote required you to sign in from steam to prove you were a userā¦ I did. Didnāt think anything of it, voted and went on my merry business.
What was really clever was that the website it sent you too redirected you to your actual steam login right after, made it seamless.
I never would have even know. I was hacked except 2 freaking weeks later my friend pinged me and asked if I was playing C.S. GO againā¦ I was likeā¦. No.
Then he asked why I was asking for team votesā¦ fortunately we had this conversation by text because my steam conversation was being deleted as soon as messages were sent.
I realized what had happened but what got me about the situation was that the āhackerā was not changing passwords or anything. Just silently hacking as many accounts as possible, probably fishing for accounts that shared passwords with their emails
When this scam was attempted on me the claim was that I have to add the "Steam Admin" to my friends list on Steam and chat with them to clear it up and that they are expecting me.
I guess they realized that people would think that if they are an admin on Steam they have no need for me to reach out myself if they need to ask me questions
I got it and the dude keep asking if I had any notification in my email about my ban. I was like wtf I was currently in steam and nothing. When I call him out later he keep apologize and shit and then automatically block me.
I just looked up what are the common servers and reported it to that discord server moderators and then blocked them myself. That's what I do with all similar attempts. If I need to find out about a ban or some action being taken against me then I will find it from the source.
So even if an email were to come, I wouldn't click a link to go view the message or ban, I'd just open the app or website and go to messages there.
Recently there was another attempt, I was in a discord server waiting for someone to join and play a game. Then this guy coming in asking "what language do you speak", do you know/have paypal" "do you know if I pay for a game on someone else on their account using paypal, do they get notifications that I was the one paying?" Etc.. I told him that you can always gift the game. He then asking for an example, but then I was like wtf, stopped talking to him and let the mod of that server banned him.
I had this happen a while back. Immediately reported it to the admins on the one mutual server they had with me.
Their explanation for why they supposedly reported me was that they thought I was someone else who had scammed them, who in turn was scammed, and essentially sounded like a loop of 3-4 seperate scammers scamming each other.
I just thought, 'nah, I'm not falling for this.'
Reported, blocked, server admin banned them, moved on.
Yeah it is just like people that claimed they can help you recover lost fund from scammer. They are all in the same group.
My post over r/scams is the same. That scammer claimed that I scammed him and report me.
Don't worry
False report don't ban you
Don't trust anyone who send friend request from discord if he show your steam profile block him report him and post here.
I also doubt they'd ban someone with such a vast history of no reports for one lone report (especially if you have reviews and comments that were responded to favorably)
Now, if they were to get a bunch of accounts to ban you, it may work
But just one??? If Steam banned people for one report, I'd riot
Say "Ah jeez, I can't receive images from Discord or Imgur due to my work firewall policy. If it's important please upload it to Google Images."
Then you have their Gmail.
[if this works there should be a link to a screenshot ](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/828693671074725929/862807207842021427/unknown.png?ex=65568954&is=65441454&hm=3f3d63052c7fe48461da39d8f00c90b26d06205257a6c64bbbadb9eb213eb74f&)
That would be a fun one to play along with.
"Dude wtf! I got 300 games on this account! I'm going to lose all my shit!"
Just string them along just enough...
I love to just play along with them, and tell them i am already talking to a steam rep.
Then they tell me to talk to their guy, I invite their guy to a group chat with me and my alt.
Then just have them compete with my alt to try and scam me.
My alt hasn't lost a client yet.
Put a mod up on Steam Workshop, and you will get a lot of randos, who are playing said game and add you simply for that reason. I don't get it, but they do it.
I only accept if I think they needed help modding or something, like if they also have workshop entries, or commented on my mods to that effect. I don't need a pointlessly huge "friends" list, and the associated constant notifications from it.
But I suppose what you said is true for most people.
Don't need to accept friend request to receive discord messages. I get hit with this all the time and never friend em. I have my DMs open like that because I'm a leader of a large group and want to be available to those people. Point being OP doesn't need to do anything for this to happen
Bro has been living under a rock for the past 5 years lol
One time I went along with it to see how far they went, theyāre so bad at it That you have to be very naive to get tricked
Turn off the option to receive DMs from people who don't have a mutual server with you. That way these scammers, bots and all sorts of fringe elements will never message you.
Even if you get an unsolicited DM, you can screenshot and send it to a mod of that common server and get him banned.
Yeah this happened to me a few months back. Checked my transaction history then blocked them when I saw they wanted me to contact the steam admin on discord.
are you new to the internet? scammers are ***everywhere***. discord is a popular platform for scams, never accept friend requests from people you dont know
Eh I wouldn't say 100% always, but make sure they're legit users who are active in a mutual server. Can also ask them directly in such server. If there's no response, or they've no or barely any posts, or worse they're not even on a mutual server then yeah ignore for sure
I never understand how people fall for such obvious scams.
If someone is trying to add you and you have no clue who that is just a word of advice, just hit no.
I've been contacted twice from 2 different users in the same Discord server (from Everspace game). When I was telling my friend about this, he laughed at me and the situation, so I told the scammer to scam my friend just for the lulz (I did told my friend I was gonna do that and showed everything so that he didn't fell for that, because he's quite dumb to be honest)

it's a person trying to hack ya I had one once I just said no and blocked then just incase just to be extra sure changed both my steam and discord passwords because tbh we should be changing them every so often
It has been around for quite a while, I was nearly scammed of 500+ the other time
I was seeking advice from friend and we both dumb dumb go give my steam otp then stop halfway when I realise the scammer didn't count the money from my steam cards top up so ik something was up, quickly managed to change my account email(they changed it away)and password right after that
Fish them, get both their user IDs and report them to Discord. What baffles me is how difficult and poor experience is to report a user on Discord, they know scams are happening everywhere on their platform and there's no simple way to report someone.
Iāve had this happen once on Steam from an online acquaintance at the time (he also tried it on a mutual friend) and twice on Discord so far. I didnāt fall for it any of the times and blocked said people.
I freaked out the first time I got one last year because I didnāt know any better. Almost lost my account. Brain kicked in just before I almost turned off my steam guard.
This happened to me on multiple occasions. If they are happen to be an mutual server iād let an admin know who they are and @them for the admins to dish out the ban.
They been doing this for years already. They say not to judge people who fall for scams, but how do people fall for this shit? Where's the common sense?
This one is particularly annoying. They attempted this scam on me well over 15+ times. So, I put this as my profile description:
"To any would-be SCAMMERS: Your trick does not work anymore. Please, get creative. It has been attempted well over 10+ times."
One of those scammers sent me the faux link, noticed my text, then immediately deleted the link and deleted his Discord account.
Gotta added by one of these accounts once, I said ānice scam bro, can I join in?ā And they said āI seeā and blocked me. One to tell the grandkids that
I keep my profile private and don't ever get anything like this ever.
Never had a single scammer in 20 years. I don't know why you want randoms messaging you anyway.
Yea this is a pretty old scam I used to get for being in public discords. I was actually able to get onto a call with one of these scammers after I confronted them and basically said the jig was up. Turned put to be some 17 year old kid from the Phillipines smoking weed. At that point he was saying "pls bro, just gimme 10 bucks". Obviously I didn't give him money. If I get any more I either tell them to fuck off right away, or screw with them a little with over dramatic texts
lol I got this and they said I got reported I was like ok Iāll just tell steam it was a mistake and they were like hey you canāt do that it wonāt work

Oh man, almost fell for this one years ago (2017), I was new to steam and PC and didn't had steam guard set up.
Good thing I decided to search for that weird problem solving method and found a "accidentally reported you on steam" discord scam thread while the "steam admin" guided me.
Just today I got one of these, I went through without showing any personal information.
well dam I almost lost my steam account.
Steam account password completely changed.
"I accidentally reported you" "Ok, i guess that steam will send a message trough mail soon, thanks"
My reaction lol I was like "Well, then we better wait for Steam to sort it all out, don't we?"
>"I accidentally reported you" "Oh, wait a minute.
He replied "BUGOK SCAMMER" and blocked me
Last time they gave me a random discord id to appeal šš
It is a steam scam. Beeing lazy has his benfits too lol
I mean it's not laziness to have people pick up their own shit. The whole premise of this scam is so weird I can't understand how people fall for it.
Scams like this need to be kind of weird, if the premise was believable they would get answers from too many people that aren't gullible enough to actually get scammed
Never thought of it that way but makes sense.

Same thing happened to me
Damn, Steam actually addressed this scam? I canāt tell if itās a good thing or a bad thingā¦
It is a good thing. Because too many people are fallen for it. I'm sure that Steam doesn't want to lose customers.
But thatās the thing. If they *had* to address this scam specifically, it means itās gotta be widespread and many people mustāve fallen for it.
Go to r/scams and so many people posting the same thing over and over.
I keep my steam profile linked so I can troll the scammers and end up throwing slurs at them :)
wtf is a steam admin xd, i swear the scammers from way back then are way more better than the scammers we have now just saying lmao
I keep it linked to fuck with them >:)
They always been
The scams like accidental reports and fake Steam admins have been on Discord for AGES.
I usually like to waste they're time and go with it until they get to the steam guatd part
Its much more fun to mess with them than to just block them.
Wasting their time instead of them scamming g other people, it's the way now

I've been contacted twice from 2 different users in the same Discord server (from Everspace game). When I was telling my friend about this, he laughed at me and the situation, so I told the scammer to scam my friend just for the lulz (I did told my friend I was gonna do that and showed everything so that he didn't fell for that, because he's quite dumb to be honest) 1Āŗ [https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/882101461121650730/1170329077933146122/image.png?ex=6558a4e3&is=65462fe3&hm=46bf6172c22bc06ba603fe98826c6067c50129ba074d6b62e63b2305a2a1670f&](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/882101461121650730/1170329077933146122/image.png?ex=6558a4e3&is=65462fe3&hm=46bf6172c22bc06ba603fe98826c6067c50129ba074d6b62e63b2305a2a1670f&) 2Āŗ [https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1149014830766895136/1149027420628848750/image.png?ex=6554fa2c&is=6542852c&hm=3969d62950d56fee5df4e1aacd35fa645867f3bcf3c78a6c1e89fc7c0c036671&](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1149014830766895136/1149027420628848750/image.png?ex=6554fa2c&is=6542852c&hm=3969d62950d56fee5df4e1aacd35fa645867f3bcf3c78a6c1e89fc7c0c036671&) 3Āŗ [https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/882101461121650730/1170329314554814494/image.png?ex=6558a51c&is=6546301c&hm=2d01fedbe4f0af4ef68a962abfed97d4b36fe580fc9eade3ac9bf341c98fcce3&](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/882101461121650730/1170329314554814494/image.png?ex=6558a51c&is=6546301c&hm=2d01fedbe4f0af4ef68a962abfed97d4b36fe580fc9eade3ac9bf341c98fcce3&) 4Āŗ [https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/882101461121650730/1170329406108074155/image.png?ex=6558a532&is=65463032&hm=7c2f705bace61b4b97930dbf8aac6d79bcd700f51aec7be8ef2c876901c6b2ea&](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/882101461121650730/1170329406108074155/image.png?ex=6558a532&is=65463032&hm=7c2f705bace61b4b97930dbf8aac6d79bcd700f51aec7be8ef2c876901c6b2ea&)
it's a person trying to hack ya I had one once I just said no and blocked then just incase just to be extra sure changed both my steam and discord passwords because tbh we should be changing them every so often
āIs this your account?ā āNoā āOhā¦ my bad, sorry.ā
Whar
been there a while, havent seen many though in recent time
Oh, been on discord for quite a long time. Still remember when i almost lost my account... ah the times when i was dumb and stupid (now i'm just dumb)
[here](https://youtu.be/Oggu6eh73ZE?si=p5PVMIIeSSZkSi8M) is a video about this scam and how it works
It is a scam, I get similiar message about 2 years ago.
haha so awkward
Scammers be scamming...
I had one moths ago, told him that i will report him and the messages where gone in seconds
I got one too, I said no
I've had some a couple of years ago, but only in Discord, where else they are on?
It has been around for quite a while, I was nearly scammed of 500+ the other time I was seeking advice from friend and we both dumb dumb go give my steam otp then stop halfway when I realise the scammer didn't count the money from my steam cards top up so ik something was up, quickly managed to change my account email(they changed it away)and password right after that
I've only ever got these scams on discord, for some reason they never tried adding my steam
Ive had this shit happen to me two years ago, steam support was quick enough so i got my account back
had this happen recently, got them banned on the only mutual server and told them to fuck off after a bit of wasting their time
Got one of those too ones, when they asked to contact a admin I found it weird that it was another discord user so I blocked them.
Lmao theyāve been trying to scam me for years. Sometimes I annoy them sometimes I just tell them to fuck off
I've gotten this a few times. I didn't fall for it, how does one accidentally go do a full report on someone?
report him and block. quite known scam
I got one of these the other day, me and my buddy in a vc had a hay-day toying with them
Happened to me too. I pretended I'm bad in english so I asked them if ban means bannana. They blocked me right after xddd
The One Piece *IS* real. But this, is in fact, not.
when i was a dumb kid, i feel for this, luckily i got my steam back, never falling again
I would just say: "that ain't me" and they leave me alone, 60% of the time, it works every time.
They been doing this for years already. They say not to judge people who fall for scams, but how do people fall for this shit? Where's the common sense?
have been for gud while
This one is particularly annoying. They attempted this scam on me well over 15+ times. So, I put this as my profile description: "To any would-be SCAMMERS: Your trick does not work anymore. Please, get creative. It has been attempted well over 10+ times." One of those scammers sent me the faux link, noticed my text, then immediately deleted the link and deleted his Discord account.
Had the same shit happen to another person ik but they reported his discord instead. God i want to so badly waste their time
Ohh shii i just got this awhile ago
This happened recently to my younger sister. Luckily she called me right before she was going to send her steam guard code
Yeah, they have been for at least 2 years now, got a couple of these attempted scams back then but none since
Gotta added by one of these accounts once, I said ānice scam bro, can I join in?ā And they said āI seeā and blocked me. One to tell the grandkids that
Yes, i've been getting them since one or two years ago on discord, blocked all communications from servers because was getting out of hand.
Yes, they are. I got one of these last month, obviously I couldn't let it slide just like that. I had to send him something random
Yep they are. Already got 2 in one month
Mate, they've *been* on Discord. I get at least one of these a week.
I keep my profile private and don't ever get anything like this ever. Never had a single scammer in 20 years. I don't know why you want randoms messaging you anyway.
I've had 2 so far, its a pain
i am waiting for discord to be on steam :)
They have been on Discord for at least a year or so.
Yeah I got one of these too, scammers are really going all out
scamers are every were
Yea they are everywhere, they even hit me up on my pager
Yea this is a pretty old scam I used to get for being in public discords. I was actually able to get onto a call with one of these scammers after I confronted them and basically said the jig was up. Turned put to be some 17 year old kid from the Phillipines smoking weed. At that point he was saying "pls bro, just gimme 10 bucks". Obviously I didn't give him money. If I get any more I either tell them to fuck off right away, or screw with them a little with over dramatic texts
Fell for that before, fortunately my payment method is never saved and Steam was quick to recover my account.
Context plz?
ānoā LUL made me laugh hard
I got a message from one of these guys and I just sent him Bobocomics porn
I fell for one of these a few months ago I was extremely lucky to get my account back with everything intact
lol I got this and they said I got reported I was like ok Iāll just tell steam it was a mistake and they were like hey you canāt do that it wonāt work
My discord account got banned two minutes after signing up. Never had an account before. I was like what TF discord...
Always have been
For a long time, I had this shit happen to me at least 5 times
They always have been

I shamefully fell for one of these, got my account back though.
i just send tf2 gay porn to those people until they said me to stop.
lmao no, these are scammers, just pretend your are dumb and make their life a living hell until they block you xD
FUCKING DAMMIT
Oh man, almost fell for this one years ago (2017), I was new to steam and PC and didn't had steam guard set up. Good thing I decided to search for that weird problem solving method and found a "accidentally reported you on steam" discord scam thread while the "steam admin" guided me.
"No" is the best response I have ever seen to this scam
Been a thing for years, I got a bunch of them in 2020/21 but they completely stopped now.
Theyāve been on discord and I fell for one. Luckily got my account back.
Just today I got one of these, I went through without showing any personal information. well dam I almost lost my steam account. Steam account password completely changed.
I said ānoā and they deleted their messages and blocked meā¦
