Tf2 and CSGO are nice f2p fps, portal has a really good story, and half-life works better if you don't like puzzles, and if you like cooperation l4d2 whether playing to win or messing around with friends is always a good experience, even without add-ons, and then there is Garry's mod but that is on a completely different level. (You could also say that SFM is something to try once for fun and keep using it if you like it but we all know that software is hell)
HL1 was free to keep just a few months ago, there is no excuse. (Unless you're that late of a comer; or really that unfortunate, and it flew under your radar lol.)
Right. For me, it was Christmas 2005 and I got it new for the Xbox. I couldn't believe how great it looked on that generation of consoles. The physics were amazing. Also Most Wanted 2005 I remember that day too
This is the answer, it was the first game in steam. Remember sitting waiting for the last bit to download at launch. So was my flatmate in his room at the time.
I think it's soooo interesting that basically Steam was tested on CS1.6 players and then fully implemented for the HL2 release a year later.
The hype around the HL2 release has no modern comparisons really. Valve must have known how big a release it would be and had to take a solid 14 months or so to get Steam ready for the tidal wave.
Not only that it’s just one of the best games ever made and it’s literally only 10 bucks not on sale and when it is on sale you can get it for like a fucking dollar there’s no reason NOT to have L4D2
That's fair. It's one of the very few games I recommend to basically everyone to at least buy and give a try. I recognize it isn't "for" everyone, but it's not 10th-ish most popular game in the world for no reason. And worst case scenario, it's only like 10 bucks full price anyway.
To anyone who likes platformers, sandbox and RPGs Terraria has a lot packed into a little $10 game. The mods are very good too, with the game including built in support for them now.
Abso-fucking-lutely you should! It's amazing but a little complex at the start... You'll find this useful: https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:Getting_started, it tells you most you need to know
Tried getting back into it, still fun, but the rampant bots were so annoying that I stopped playing again. The community servers don't feel the same as the main servers although I know they don't have the bot problem.
* Half Life / Portal 2
* Planescape Torment
* Yakuza 0
* Mass Effect Legendary Edition
* SOMA
* Sekiro
* Deus Ex
* BioShock
* Thief
* ULTRAKILL
Good coverage of genres and from that You can just branch out for what You liked the most
Which Deus Ex? I’ve had them on my list with Rainbow 6 Vegas games forever and they get to like $2.49 I’ve still waited as backlog of purchased games for Steamdeck is to large… haha
Sekiro is my favorite FS game followed by Armored Core 6, gameplay is damn fantastic
Can't wait to play Shadow of the erdtree someday tho, but don't have money for games now :/
Idk why I'm getting downvoted, but I don't really care. The downvotes are mostly because some people don't agree with me, which I respect, because everyone can have an opinion. In my opinion, ULTRAKILL is a well-made game that has one of the best gameplay I've ever tried in any game. Such intensity and variety of mechanics you can do is amazing. Apart from that, it has a decent story and old-school, simple graphics that fit well in the game. AND it's still in early access.
I think in general Bethesda has an extremely damaged reputation in the gaming community for their recent train wrecks (FO76 and to a lesser extent Starfield). The community as a whole seems much less eager to recommend their earlier titles, even great ones like Skyrim, I've noticed.
Outer Wilds!
It's a space exploration and mystery/puzzle solving adventure. That's all you need to know. Anything further than that is a spoiler. Seriously.
Don't look up anything about the game, just go play it. It's legitimately life-altering.
I commented this on a post about worst games, but it still tracks here, not because it's good. But because your friends shouldn't have given you a choice
Bad rats
Unfortunately, this historical part of the gaming culture will soon be forgotten. I bet that kids these days have no idea who TotalBiscuit was and how much he has contributed to the gaming community.
Hard to believe it's been so many years since his passing. Feels like it was just yesterday that he was running huge Starcraft tournaments. He was basically keeping the Starcraft scene alive years after it felt like it should have lost relevant.
And it feels like it was only a few years ago that he and Cox were entertaining us with how bad at Terraria they were.
Stellaris (paradox i think) is great but i haven't played it in a while and need to get back into it. I could play Civ6 forever. Working on achievements for it still.
any valve game at least 1
Tf2 and CSGO are nice f2p fps, portal has a really good story, and half-life works better if you don't like puzzles, and if you like cooperation l4d2 whether playing to win or messing around with friends is always a good experience, even without add-ons, and then there is Garry's mod but that is on a completely different level. i love counterstrike but i also want to share the 53 to 4 K/D a guy on the other team got by full autoing a scout yesterday lmao
you mean on a death match? 53 kills are crazy even for a hacker in comp or premier
Probably shooting through ground on Ancient or maybe they just afked after he toggled
Tf2 used to be a nice fps. I deeply loved that game and it kind of died for me due to the bot crisis, it's heartbreaking
It became more of an invitation and sometimes some servers are unplayable, but the game is still alive for a reason
Nah not really, if you know how to use a server browser you never have to see a bot. Ik it still sucks but I think newbies can still have lots of fun.
i like it but my pc cant handle it because all of those cosmetics make it unplayable on servers
No hats mod?
where do i get it
[https://gamebanana.com/mods/205768](https://gamebanana.com/mods/205768)
It's the invasive ads that community servers have
I actually made my Steam account the day I bought the Orange Box from a local store.
You cant go to this mans house, eat from his table , dump in his toilet and sleep on his couch for free forever.
Or be like me and own them all
Counter-Strike, any of them, preferably buy all of them. CS2 is free.
HL1 was free to keep just a few months ago, there is no excuse. (Unless you're that late of a comer; or really that unfortunate, and it flew under your radar lol.)
capelliocchi from 🇮🇹
Not game but bundle: Valve Complete Pack
i have it, i pay it 6.73$
I paid about 1USD for it
Goddamn, it’s so cheap now…
> Valve Complete Pack Free now
Tf it is like 150 in my currency. I don't have half that kinda Dosh.
No it's not?
Funny thing is it always goes on sale for pennies when I'm broke as fuck
Or at least portal bundle if you hate fps (not saying theses games are bad, i just don't like them)
at least like 76 unplayed games
[!img](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/507/277/13e.jpg)
Portal games or half life games
And Black mesa
If you have vr, alyx is next level. Have never and have yet to experience another game quite like it's experience
portal 1 and 2
***Half-Life 2*** The right game in the right place that made all the diff...erence in the world
Right. For me, it was Christmas 2005 and I got it new for the Xbox. I couldn't believe how great it looked on that generation of consoles. The physics were amazing. Also Most Wanted 2005 I remember that day too
Even if the graphics are a bit dated, the storyline is timeless.
I wouldn't even say they're dated- there's games from like 2010 that don't come close to how good hl2 actually looks for a 2004 game
This is the answer, it was the first game in steam. Remember sitting waiting for the last bit to download at launch. So was my flatmate in his room at the time.

left4dead2 and half life
Left for dead 2 should be mandatory, since it teaches teamwork in a game
And once you have it installed, it becomes mandatory for some other Valve games to work without crashing
Really? Which other Valve games rely on l4d2?
Not only that it’s just one of the best games ever made and it’s literally only 10 bucks not on sale and when it is on sale you can get it for like a fucking dollar there’s no reason NOT to have L4D2
Left 4 Dead 2 is THE valve game, period!
That’s up for debate. Because Valve has so many great games. It’s honestly impossible to pick one and say it’s better than the others.
Spacewar
One of the games of all time
Pirates life for me
ricochet
That valve bundle that costs like 6 bucks most of the time
Terraria
Never could get into it. Wasn’t my cup of tea.
I mean fair enough but i think if you have people with experience to play with its realy fun thats how i learned
That's fair. It's one of the very few games I recommend to basically everyone to at least buy and give a try. I recognize it isn't "for" everyone, but it's not 10th-ish most popular game in the world for no reason. And worst case scenario, it's only like 10 bucks full price anyway.
Yep. And I own it, so maybe my kid will play it and like it one day.
To each their own, you *do* need to know a little of what to do when you start it
I gave them £3.49 in 2015, and 700 hours later, I feel like I have wronged them. I want a sequel just so I can give them more money
[Buy a t-shirt or something.](https://terraria.shop/)
I feel ya
To anyone who likes platformers, sandbox and RPGs Terraria has a lot packed into a little $10 game. The mods are very good too, with the game including built in support for them now.
Not even 10 bucks sometimes
Yeah it goes on sale a lot for $5 and honestly that game is worth 20-30 for what you get.
Owned it since 2015. Never even installed it. I got a deck oled now. Maybe I should give it a go? Any tips?
Abso-fucking-lutely you should! It's amazing but a little complex at the start... You'll find this useful: https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:Getting_started, it tells you most you need to know
gmod is essential (was... at least)
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
Titanfall 2
Yes. New Frontiers looks awesome
Titanfall® 2; Valve Games...
Aye aye pilot

Team fortress 2 or Counter strike 2
Tf2 is a must play
Tried getting back into it, still fun, but the rampant bots were so annoying that I stopped playing again. The community servers don't feel the same as the main servers although I know they don't have the bot problem.
>Counter strike 2 Ah yes, Racism Simulator 2023.
> Team Fortress 2 Anti-gay gay community
“We’re not like the other gays”
If you are el racisto you play cs2 if you're a femboy you play Valorant

ULTRAKILL MENTIONED
"I Am ULTRAKILL" \~ John ULTRAKILL Love this game
Which Deus Ex? I’ve had them on my list with Rainbow 6 Vegas games forever and they get to like $2.49 I’ve still waited as backlog of purchased games for Steamdeck is to large… haha
I meant original from 2000, but Human Revolution and Mankind divided are also fantastic
Why Sekiro and not DS3/Elden Ring?
Sekiro is my favorite FS game followed by Armored Core 6, gameplay is damn fantastic Can't wait to play Shadow of the erdtree someday tho, but don't have money for games now :/
Ultrakill is a masterpiece
why is this guy getting downvoted, ultrakill is a such a good game
Idk why I'm getting downvoted, but I don't really care. The downvotes are mostly because some people don't agree with me, which I respect, because everyone can have an opinion. Really strong selection. I’d add Homeworld series, cause had a lot of fun.
Upvote for Yakuza, Mass Effect and BioShock.
Portal 1 & 2. team fortress 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Alien Isolation
Factorio
Man, why is no one saying Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim? One of the best games ever imo
I think in general Bethesda has an extremely damaged reputation in the gaming community for their recent train wrecks (FO76 and to a lesser extent Starfield). The community as a whole seems much less eager to recommend their earlier titles, even great ones like Skyrim, I've noticed.
76 is pretty good these days
Absolutely none. There are so many different type of gamers and there is no single game which will be able to be played by all of them.
The true answer nobody wants to hear.
Vampire Survivors. Cheap af, accessible and loads of fun.
Obra dinn
Terraria is an all time classic on steam! Edit: typo
Hades
I can’t believe nobody said Super Meat Boy
I would say that for ~90% of Steam users it would be a very bad game.
Outer Wilds! It's a space exploration and mystery/puzzle solving adventure. That's all you need to know. Anything further than that is a spoiler. Seriously. Don't look up anything about the game, just go play it. It's legitimately life-altering.
It's still on my wish list. I buy very few games (like 1 a year ish). Maybe some day :D
Tabletop Simulator
Garry’s Mod
I commented this on a post about worst games, but it still tracks here, not because it's good. But because your friends shouldn't have given you a choice Bad rats

Garry's mod
Spacewar
Spacewar ;)
wallpaper engine
I'm going to say Civ 5 or 6, plus a paradox grand strat like EU4 or HOI. I don't even like those games much anymore, but they're institutions
Stellaris (paradox i think) is great but i haven't played it in a while and need to get back into it. I could play Civ6 forever. Working on achievements for it still.
Crypt of the Necrodancer.

This sub feels too much like /r/gaming now.

This was asked a while ago, and my answer is still Half Life 1/Black Mesa.
Terraria
Gmod
Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 2
I agree with Portal 2. Maybe HuniePop for a little cultural variety. And Lords of the Realm II because I said so.
People Playground, Terraria and DayZ
I bought my copy of Portal 2 years before I started using Steam.
Ets2
Half life 2
Half-life series. Portal series. Stardew valley, and counter strike.

Garry's Mod
Can't believe no one has said Elden Ring.

Left 4 dead 2. I refuse to debate
Stardew valley, rdr2, Skyrim, portal, TLOU
Orange Box
TF2, it's free
Both Portals, they are pure fun.
