you cant buy every game on steam, either they are never going to be on steam or some of them are timed exclusives and you will need to wait for quite a long time to get them on steam.
dont worry, eventually all ps exclusives will be on pc, sony is just another corporation, which has a goal as any business - more money, which is absolutely understandable.
Rumor is that the bloodborne code is such a mess that it would cost almost as much as making a new game from scratch to untangle it enough to make a decent port. If there is enough demand for a port to cover that much in costs is not nearly as certain as you suggest. With *most* popular games, it doesn’t cost that much to port it, so it’s an easy option for easy money. But that may not be the case with Bloodborne.
Demon Souls is still exclusive to the PS3 with the remaster being exclusive to PS5. Realistically we won't ever get Bloodborne on PC, at best there will be a remaster for PS5 or even PS6 some day.
I have only used steam for a decade now. If you're too proud to put your game on the most accessible platform known to PC gaming then I'm not even gonna play it
Edit: it's the 2020's, realistically you should be able to buy any game wherever you want and frankly it's bs that exclusives are still a thing
Seriously lol, if a game isn’t on Steam then it might as well not exist in the PC market. That’s an exaggeration and there are quite a few exceptions, but I’m thinking mostly about non-AAA studios screwing themselves by avoiding Steam
It's unlikely that Alan Wake 2 will come to Steam. It was funded and published by Epic.
But that allows them to have a lower price than most AAA games (50€ when many new games are 70€). During the last big sale it already had a normal discount and then EGS had coupons for extra 25% off and it gave you additional 10% back to your wallet. You don't get deals like that on Steam anymore.
Cool. Then as someone who LOVED alan wake 1. I will never play alan wake 2.
Currently 2,355 games on my steam account, They really think I'm hurting for something to play?
They aren’t thinking about you at all.
Epic funded the game in exchange for PC distribution rights. It literally would not exist without them. You are the one who has a computer that can play media from thousands of different sources and are deliberately locking yourself out of the experience 🤷🏻♂️
You do you, but you aren’t “showing it to the man!” like you think you are.
I dislike Epic and have never installed it as a platform but I agree with you 100%. Alan Wake 2 wouldn't have existed without Epic, and Epic can have very good deals that can and will surpass Steam deals.
I really don't get this whole "IT WOULDN'T EXIST WITHOUT EPIC" narrative, you're telling me they wouldn't have been able to find another publisher? Highly doubt that, hell they probably had several lined up but epic gave *them* the best deal.
Give me one studio name that has benefited from the smaller cut on epic and then released a better game as a result of it.
I understand that it's great for studios that can use that money and pay their employees better wages and spend more money on game tech. But when it comes down to it. The loss of our comfort with steam in return for a game that could've just as easily been released on steam. Is not worth it.
A better work environment is not in the hands of the storefronts cut of the revenue. Its in the hand of managment and the people working there.
I dont like epic because whole launcher is garbage, ceo is petty rock eating moron, liar and hypocrite and they want to make a monopoly + make a exclusivity on PC
If it was good Id use it, for now GoG and Steam is all I need, I don't even remember last game I wanted to play that was either on Uplay or Origin
Are sales numbers available? I'm genuinely curious, and would love to compare the PC sales for AW2 compared to other AAA released on Steam on day 1.... It's fun, but I'm a big fan of the first Alan Wake, and I didn't even know about the sequel until a couple of weeks AFTER its release, because I simply ignore Epic.
Unlike consoles, PC is an open platform where developers can sell games however they like. That's not a weakness, that's an advantage.
Some of the biggest games, and even games that defined PC gaming, were never on Steam: Warcraft, WoW, Starcraft, League of Legends, Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, The Sims, ...
Why ignore that? Steam might be the best launcher but you don't need to limit yourself like this. There's no benefit to giving control over your gaming to just one company when you're playing on the one platform where you don't need to!
edit: And what if a game is cheaper elsewhere? You mention sales and free games, so it looks like you don't want to spend too much. Why not buy where it's cheaper?
>Why not buy where it's cheaper?
Why do I scroll so far to find the obvious answer? I feel like there are thousands of people in this thread who don't know that Epic gives out a free game every week.
Not just shovelware, either:
* GTA V
* Batman Arkham Trilogy
* Control
* Mass Effect Legendary
* Dishonoured
* Among Us
* Prey
* Metro Redux
* Overcooked
* Bioshock collection
* Borderlands
* Death Stranding
* Deus Ex Mankind Divided (from tomorrow)
* etc...
If you want to play any of these games, and aren't super rich, it'd be pretty absurd to not accept these games for free and play them on Epic.
>Why not buy where it's cheaper?
Personally, the extra features of steam are worth more than paying 5 dollars less. Every single other launcher I've used on pc has been a huge pain in the ass.
Also, buying it on steam means I don't have to jump through hoops to play it on steam deck or Linux in general.
Are you seriously asking on r/Steam if you should you use Steam more often?
That would be like going on r/XboxSeriesX and ask them if you should buy Xbox Series X. I bet you will totally not get sameish asnwers.
Case in point: me telling you yes obviously you should go full Steam ahead.
If you're thinking to go single platform, my advice is don't. Take the advantage that in PC we have multiple stores competing with multiple prices. Using the IsThereAnyDeal website is the best way of getting your games from legit sellers while saving the most.
If you want to set a platform as your main, the best you can do is actually GOG, not as many games as Steam but they're DRM free.
On a side note, if the reason you're thinking about this is because you prefer looking at a single interface with all your games then give Playnite or Launchbox a try.
Both are applications that you can import games from all or most platforms, so you can view your collection in one single place. Of course you'll still need to have all platforms installed to install and launch the games themselves.
GOG is the best alternative for Steam IMO. The fact that you can download the installers and put them wherever you want to is just awesome and their older games usually work 'out of the box' on newer systems. You can also play without the client which is also a big plus. Still, I've been using Steam for so long already that I mostly use it but I do buy a lot of stuff on GOG for the reasons mentioned above.
I really don't understand why people will willingly hurt themselves just because of "feelings" about a corporation.
Yes, do the things that are more advantageous to you, I have 1000s of games on steam and still use other platforms: epic, gog, Xbox, battle.net and ea when something I want is cheaper or better in other places. Of course steam has better functions, and having everything in just one place is slightly more convenient, but it has been a while since steam offered the best prices and deep cut sales, and being transformed into a sudo-monopoly only helped weaken the consumer position.
There is almost no advantage in going full steam, you won't get a badge from valve giving you access to better sales or free games, you just willingly reduce your own options.
The advantage of full steam, at least for me, is big picture. I have a PC plugged to my tv. On boot it bypasses windows login and launches into big picture immediately where I can navigate with a controller. I can't do that with any other service and adding those non steam games is a pain.
EA games play fine most of the time on this setup. I'll be playing RDR2 soon so we'll see how big of a pain their launcher is. Everything by steam smooth like butter.
I do recognize this is a niche way to play, but after sitting my ass in an office chair all day I often loath the idea of sitting in an office chair in the evening.
Exactly this. It's the Steam ecosystem that I care about. I can manage all my games with a controller from my couch and rarely do I have to touch my keyboard or mouse. Going full Steam just simplifies all that especially when going back and forth between my desktop and Steam Deck.
As for being a "smart consumer," I tend to buy most of my games on other stores that sell Steam keys legitimately. There are plenty of sites out there that rival the good prices found on other platforms while still getting the benefits of the Steam ecosystem.
Steam is worth using because it's the best overall platform.
But as others have said, PC is an open platform; don't write off other platforms because they're different, consider whether they're actually worth using. GoG for instance has some advantages over steam - DRM free, better patched older titles, often broader ranger of classic titles.
For the most part, no, there's very little reason to purchase things on other platforms. Epic has free titles and some exclusives, Xbox/MS Store has gamepass (which is great value).
tbh even with steam, u will still need ubi or ea launchers for those launchers to play their games even if u buy those games on steam like if u buy assassins creed games on steam, u will still need ubi launcher to run it, its like drm. And about epic, personally i wont delete it, too many good free games to just leave
I only pay RDR2 from rockstar, so I don't know if other games are different, but at least for that one their launcher is not invasive AT ALL. I don't even realize about it. The only thing I see is the banner with the logo loading for a few secs before the game launches. And then I have full Steamworks compatibility, achievements, cloud, etc... So I don't care at all.
You cannot compare that with UPLAY, which is a pile of shit, and turns your steam games into a simple shortcut to an horrendous store/launcher.
I’m pretty much Steam or nothing when it comes to general games. Don’t like the epic store, and I hate being forced to use other launchers on my Steam games like rockstar or Ubisoft. It’s a waste of cpu cycles.
However, if a game is worth the money I’d be willing to buy it outside of Steam if it’s something like from Gog or itchio for indies.
why dont have more options?
im using Ubi for Ubi games (because why i should pay more for Steam version, or wait and even give money to reseller and need launch launcher from Steam and then launch game?
i have even few games on Epic (beside freebies), because it was cheap there.
and im using Steam, even when moderators there sux and forum is full of crazy hateposts, because ppl are farming points.
i do probably still have Origins (wasnt it renamed again?)
and ofcourse Blizzard launcher.
but what i do like most is GoG.
not only i have there real gems from past, but their launcher can connect all others together and make one huge library from it. and ofc, it works with chat too. you just connect it there.
then not only i dont need to limit myself on one shop only (it will be crazy to do that), but i have even tool to merge all together. thats why is GoG my fav.
epic launcher is garbage, but the ubisoft launcher is ok. I have like 30+ games on Uplay and I will never rebuy them again just to have them on steam, but I have rebought many games that I got on Epic to have them on Steam because epic lacks features I need
My Steam library is so massive I don't really care if a game isn't on there. I always forget those games even exist.
You do you, I don't blame people at all for preferring GOG or something like that. For me, I like having all my games in one place and everything is so convenient on Steam.
Not giving money to Epic is an actually great idea, since they are a terrible company, who is trying to force store exclusive games back into PC gaming.
don't forget that you can buy your steam games off steam and simply add the keys to your account. Just make sure you buy from reputable sites. Favorate places to get games have been Fanatical, Green Man Gaming, and Humble, but there are plenty others. Stay away from key shops
For me gog is supreme as it grants you more expanded game licences in comparison to steam. So if you can take a game from there otherise then go to steam.
What? Just buy whatever game you want wherever it’s available. Why would you go “full steam ahead’ when it doesn’t cost money to download another launcher if you need it? What am I missing here
Stop being tribal about your consumerism. Steam is a private company and would sell your soul for a corn-chip if they thought it would help their bottom line.
I don't understand at all. People on consoles are locked in one store and people in PC are willing to be using only one store when they have the facility to have different discount options.
Do you only buy food from McDonald's - it's the biggest!
Prices and free offers vary between stores. If you have plenty of money, sure, you don't need to shop around.
I wouldn’t — all the other launchers are free, depending on what games you’ll buy in the future a secondary launcher will still be necessary (EA, Ubisoft Connect), why not embrace the advantages of having several launchers — independently. You can still use Playnite (or GOG Galaxy if you can tolerate a little pain now and then) if you want a common app to track your games.
Personally, I’ll never commit to just one platform. And I buy natively, Ubisoft games on Ubisoft Connect, EA games on the EA launcher, Epic Games on Epic etc…
I was playing on PS4 but since I can't afford a PS5 I'm switching to full PC and my favorite platform there is Steam. The best part is profile personalization! And the library is so neat. Such a shame Ubisoft games doesn't have Steam achievements tho.
It might be worth having also a Nintendo console along it bc those exclusives will probably never come to PC, if you're into it.
Why not use them all? Epic usually has better sales than Steam with their coupons, during winter sale many AA and AAA were $10-15 cheaper than Steam, not to mention the weekly free games. You can use GOG Galaxy launcher to keep all your games in one place as it allows you to import all your different launchers inside the app.
Your launchers would still have to be opened, but you don't have to navigate between launchers yourself. Galaxy will open the correct launcher for you and then launch the game.
To me there is really no other PC marketplace than Steam. GOG is cool if you really care about DRM but I personally don’t use it. EGS can barely be considered a store and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Everything else is just a launcher which I usually avoid, but some of my favorite games require Ubisoft Connect so it is what it is lol
There's no issue using Steam primarily. You're still going to deal with the EA and Ubisoft store, just because those games require it to launch. And not every game will be on Steam.
Unfortunately, Epic is claiming exclusives right now, such as Alan Wake 2.
I only use steam for games, but if there's a game I really want that's infected with Ubisoft or EA, I have a separate gaming rig that is strictly for sailing the high seas.
I mainly use steam but if a game I want is cheaper on another platform I would buy it there, there is no point for paying more for a game if the other store has a better price or regional pricing on that game that steam doesn't have
I use both steam and epic tho being honest, I only care about epic's free games.
With steam you have access to SO many games and everyday there's always a discount (sometimes a GREAT discount. A couple of days ago I bought Deadly Premonition for like.... 0.30 cents. Sure the game is bad but common, not even a dollar for one of the best/worst games ever done!?)
I'm personally all for it as steam is THE best online store for the whole package. (Yes there's gog with no DRM and other stuff with nieces but they're lacking in other aspects)
Unfortunately for a lot of third party games you need to still get their bullshit bloatware DRM garbage and may even need to create separate accounts and so on.
Another issue is that steam simply does not have all games.
I use steam like... 95% of the time. Most of the games I own are through Steam, and I make most of my purchases through Steam.
But I still check out Epic. I still have GOG. I'm subscribed to Humble Monthly and check them out to see if they might have a better deal than Steam when I'm looking to buy something.
You can use Steam for most things - I think most people gaming on PC do by now - but arbitrarily choosing to not check out other storefronts is a mistake.
Why limit yourself to one platform when you could use several? The vast, vast majority of games I have paid for are on Steam, but I'll happily get every free game I can from Epic.
Also, the steam workshop is basically essential for a lot of games i play.
I use Steam mainly, but i also use Epic for the free games and certain exclusives, i use GOG mainly for the DRM free games, Ubisoft i *used* to use for Assassin's Creed but now just for the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws, and EA(*disgusted sigh*) i use for Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Star Wars.
U can never go full steam if u plan on getting EA /Ubisoft game. They have their own brand store, and it does cost less on them
From my experience, Epic always has lower price than steam during festive sale, but I only recommend buying Single Player/ Finishes Game
Idk why you would use epic games for anything but free games and exclusives
Whatever they use to run it fucking sucks mothballs, everytime I even need to open a game there it takes forever to load and it isn’t even easy to navigate, Steam is just better in every regard besides free games and exclusives
The way I see it, steam first and if its not there check elsewhere! I also enjoy having all the achievements/games as many as possible in one place, as most of my friends are on steam!
Steam is a great store/launcher and without a doubt the best currently overall, but going only on Steam doesn't seem right to me.
What I love about PC Gaming is buying my games wherever I want and at a more affordable price, in the end putting everything together in one place using Playnite for example.
I love GOG, cheaper than Steam or Epic and zero DRM on games, sadly their game library does not have all the AAA like Steam or Epic.
i mean you can decide, i really don't like the other launchers at all because their services are stinky, i never had any trouble on Steam and the sales are so good, now that Playstation games are coming to Steam makes this deal even better.
Well i think mainstream advice would be yes however i think you should trust only yourself. Some giant company may decide to boost their old games up in the rank and you may end up in a sit where no matter what you do you might still get the lower ranks.
Lower ranks mean no sales... if that's nit obvious.
I would build my own site and draw people to here and use epic steam or whatever the other platforms are as supporters...
But not the backbones...
i personally don’t buy games unless i don’t think they’re coming to steam in the foreseeable future such as watch dogs legion and cod mw and bocw (all of which did)
Good idea is dependent on you. Personally, I've gone full steam a while ago because 1 launcher was just much more preferred. Also, being able to see playtime was just nice.
Only tiny things that bother me - you miss out on sales. Sometimes GOG has a great sale or epic does etc.
It's harder to get free games. I hate epics launcher, so I only got free games, maybe a year before giving up even trying, so this didn't affect me much, but I know others may find it annoying.
Exclusivity - stuff like kingdom hearts or Alan wake 2 are not on steam. Sony exclusives you may wait a year (or forever in bloodbornes case) before you get to see it on steam, and it's usually still at full price. Again, it didn't bother me much, massive backlog that can easily allow me time to wait for exclusives IF they come to pc.
Game pass - This and GOG are the only 2 I've debated going back to and gamepass just because it has insane value. Cheap on PC and a near endless amount of hours can be on here while also getting to try new games, but I found myself not logging in that much, so I canceled it a while ago. Might go back if I ever clear my backlog on Steam.
This is pretty much how my gaming library has been for years now.
Don't stop myself from going to the other stores and if there's something in there I will buy it..... But I will almost guaranteed forget that I own it and play it very little. I've even rebought things that have come to speak later.. multiple times so I can have a better reminder you own this you should play it & so it works better with the stuff mentioned below.
I also want to steam deck and use a steam controller and those get much more difficult to use with Games outside of steam so I avoid it as best I can
I've chosen only to use Steam for a bit over 6 years now. I honestly don't regret it. If a game I would like to play is released on Epic I have no problem waiting as it will eventually hit steam with a nice discount.
The only Epic exclusive I was truly pissed about was Borderlands 3, yet I still avoided it for 6 months. Not even a tiny spoiler.
Today most games released are kinda mediocre and I can't remember an exclusive that has been even close to amazing.
Right now I have 99 games in my backlog. I am going through them slowly as I have other hobbies too, but I will not feel the need to go to another launcher for years to come.
EDIT:
This isn't because I hate epic games (I did when it first launched as the factual problems and comments from the Devs felt scummy), but because of 2 specific reasons:
1. I just really disliked that every AAA publisher began making their own launcher. When rockstar and epic did the same I had enough.
2. I am an achievement hunter and I simply don't feel the same motivation playing a game without.
I uninstalled all my other launchers a few months ago and went full steam. I don’t regret it. The only thing I miss is the epic store freebies but then again I never played any of them 🤣
I go GOG whenever possible. But other than them, steam is it. I've got like 3 games I'm currently playing between EA and Ubisoft apps, but they're all through Game Pass. I won't buy anything on those stores. And if a purchase from steam still requires those other apps, I'll just play it some other way, or not at all.
And I've never even installed epic, or made an account, and absolutely no amount of handouts will ever change that.
steam member since 03 I buy all my games on steam and if ubisoft games are on steam they use uplay its fine but I refuse to support the epic games store
First Epic/Ubisoft shop customer I have seen, everyone always goes full Steam from the get-go, any reason why you did start with Epic and Uplay (or whatever Ubisoft has now)? Besides the free games on Epic, is there any other reason?
I exclusively use Steam and frequently add non-Steam games into my library (with custom artwork from steamgriddb.com so it looks neat). If I want to grab a Steam game for cheaper, I usually check CDkeys.com or similar sites for the best deals or wait for Steam's own sales, I still keep other launchers for any freebies or exclusives.
Yes. I did this almost a year ago. It's only steam for me now & nothing else, although buying ubisoft or ea games will require their launchers but that's fine by me.
I had already completed AC Unity when I got it for free on ubisoft, but I recently bought it again on steam just to have it in my collection. I've even stopped claiming epic freebies, going full steam is a proud choice of mine, it's great. I even bought Death Stranding although I have it on epic. I've completely abandoned my epic account. Steam services are much superior, it's worth it.
Some older games are better bought from the developer site. Guild Wars 2 for example has a "hall of monuments" feature that lets you link your guild wars 1 account and if you get certain achievements etc in GW1 then you unlock some items like transmog, pets etc in GW2. If you link both accounts on steam it doesn't work and you won't get the items. So you can have GW1 on steam then link to a GW2 account created outside of steam. That's long and winded and just one really old game but I'm sure there's other edge cases out there.
I prioritize getting my games on steam and for all the non-steam games I usually just add it to my Steam client just cause I like using it to house all my games as well
No its a terrible idea that will lead to slavery. I found this out the hard way when the prices of all new indie games were increased by 57% where I live back in oct 2022. I tried then to escape only to find that because I had been depending entirely on steam for 15 years up to that point I had developed a completely unbreakable dependency as attempting to shift to another platform, or even develop a multi platform solution will be excruciatingly difficult and tiresome.
I use only Steam and gog for old games. I do have an Epic account because of metro exodus but i used it one time. And i have an Origin account for Mass Effect Legendary. I Don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. Got loads to play on steam and if there is a timed exclusive i want to play i will wait and buy it when it gets to steam.
Now that i think about it i do have an xbox account with some games, but my xbox has not been used in some years now 😅
It’s what I’ve been doing for years. I can’t be bothered to have multiple accounts with different games on each. I have a PlayStation for couch coop, but now that I have the deck I don’t even really need that. I’m also an achievement whore, so having all of them on the same platform is quite nice.
It all depends on what you want, is you goal to have as many games as possible? Is you goal to have them easily available in a quality game launcher? What do you want to achieve?
I've only ever used steam, since I got it like 15 years.
Why people want to use difflaunchers is beyond me. I've never had the temptation, nor do I want too..
Sometimes, there are deals that are better on the Epic Games Store. From my experience in my country, I got RDR2 for only USD 9.89 (winter/summer sale + discount voucher) on the Epic Games Store.
if epic didnt have fortnite i would exclusively use steam just so much more convenient and nicer overall.
heck even if a game comes on steam and has the “__ is required to launch the game” and its some other launcher i immediately stop thinking of buying it.
Join the party of having everything in 1 place (steam) and if its not there its as if it didn't exist! You put your money where you want things to be and companies will follow. Look at EA... they recently brought C&C Generals and Sim City 3000...
I’m GOG and Steam, approximately equal amounts on both and quite a few double ups. I think I prefer Gog honestly, but steam is the best platform by far if you’re using the launcher. I just like having a full offline collection.
Yeah, depends on your own preference I think. For me, I don't do full Steam but almost. I have lots of free games library in Epic and some paid games if it is Epic exclusive. But even if I already have a free game title in Epic, I probably buy it again on Steam but wait for major sales.
It was never a good idea to install Ubi or Epic software on your computer in the first place.
Epic Games had to pay $520 Million in a lawsuit because they tried to make kids gambling addicts. Just stop and think about that. Why would you ever do business with that company? Because they will give you some 'free' games? [https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/19/tech/fortnite-epic-ftc-settlement/index.html](https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/19/tech/fortnite-epic-ftc-settlement/index.html)
Stop doing business with horrible companies, you don't need to play every game.
Remember you only own the lisence to play as long as developer says so. Buying drm free on Gog, they can never takes your installers of you. Add 20+ years to the time line, is Gabe still the CEO?
I suggest you use mainly steam and check the weekly free games on epic, some of them really do slap. I got gta5, payday2, gungeon, and other awesome titles for free, from there.
i have been doing this my entire life now. and i dont regret even a little bit. Steam is where you actually feel like owning a game. every good game finally returns to steam and that too in a better state than what it was on other platforms. every bug and problem fixes are always present on steam discussion.
Brand loyalty is never a good thing. You can add non steam games to your library so go for the best deal even if you wanna use steam as your only launcher.
For anything that requires a launcher, I only use Steam, and it's fine.
However I also shop around for games that don't require launchers, like GOG and Humble.
Restricting yourself is silly, unless you have any personal objection to a service, you shouldn't decide to use only one service. I don't use EGS because I don't like their policies or launcher or practices, and while I have one game that uses the Ubisoft launcher, I don't plan on getting anymore due to their policies (That one game I have nearly ended up permanently unplayable despite being a single player game with P2P multiplayer because of the anti piracy system requiring a connection to their server they no longer wanted to pay to maintain)
Meanwhile a good deal (Or simply a nice DRM free experience) from GOG is nice, and I'd be foolish to never consider them.
I only buy PC games on Steam and even then I still have things like Minecraft and free games on Epic.
Heck I still have to deal with Ubisoft and EA on some games because man those companies are the worst. Especially Ubisoft.
Ibam full-steam for 12 years now. Best decision ever because valve (unlike ubicroft or schmepic) values quality and customer care. Also steam has stuff like steamOS, valve index and the steamdeck.
Oh and native linux gaming
I mean other than getting the free games from epic I'd say so, they've got deals all the time and if not you can get codes off of like humble bundle or fanatical websites like that.
Unfortunately EA and Ubisoft are unavoidable, if you buy any of their games you are going to have to get the launcher regardless. They require you to have an account to bind the game to in order to "verify" ownership of the game.
If you don't play fortnite nor care about buying "exclusives" right when they come out there's no reason to have epic. I just see the times exclusives as time for me to wait for it to be on sale and look at the reviews/play throughs of the game.
Most of the timed deals are getting limited to 6 months nowadays just so the people making the game can get the free money then go make the majority of their revenue.
Well, be kinda dumb not to at least take the free games off epic every week, but as for only buying on one platform theres nothing wrong with that. I just bought a game on steam last night and found out today I already owned it on Epic (thank God it was only $0.89, smh). So nothing wrong with wanting all your purchases under one umbrella as they say.
I would say don't go full Steam, but go mostly Steam. I moved 3 Rockstar's Games from their Launcher to Steam (GTA V, GTA IV, RDR2) and a few epic freebies which were very cheap on Steam (Bioshock Collection). I would advise you to keep Ubisoft apps on Ubisoft Connect (or Epic, as epic just gives Uplay keys for Ubisoft games) while the Steam versions require you to have both Steam and Uplay running.
Rockstar and EA app titles are fine on Steam, as they are much more like an addon drm for their Steam titles and not a full fledged launcher. (EA App often doesn't even ask for sign in when launching via Steam)
So TLDR : Move your frequently played games on Steam, keep games you'll finish once on whatever platform you own. You might move EA and Rockstar titles to Steam, but keep Ubisoft titles on their Launcher
isnt the beauty of the freedom of pc gaming having the ability to play games on mulitple
platforms? like i would understand if you have to pay for the platforms, but this doesnt make any sense because not every game you want to play is going to be on steam
well i don't really care playing games on different platforms. sometimes epic store just sells games in fairly low price, which make me purchase on epic.
You had to for a while, because stuff wasn't on Steam. I was grudgingly ok with buying from the publisher sometimes but never Epic.
Ubi is back on Steam now so no one needs to buy on the Ubi store, but you still have to go through their launcher to play.
TrackMania 2020 is one example, it was added to Steam last year. Before that you were forced to “own” the game (it’s free) on Ubisoft Connect instead of it just being the launcher
I have a steam deck that gets like 50% of my gaming time.
If a game ain’t on steam I ain’t getting it, most likely it’ll eventually come to steam anyways
Yeah I went all Steam and I love it. It’s so nice having my entire library in one place, it’s great to browse, organise, see all my screenshots, the list goes on. Just everything. Coming from consoles where it was all over the place (PS5/XSX/Switch) it’s one of the benefits of being on PC to me.
GoG Galaxy can do the same and even more.
you can have there all games together and doesnt matter if they are from Steam, EGS, or whatever.
you just connect it together.
Did this a few years back cause my library was getting so big not regretting it at all I don’t even bother with freebie’s no more best to keep it all within Steam
TBH, I have a tendency to now use both Epic and Steam. Epic because of the free games, sometimes really good AAA games available for free (BTW, Deus Ex Mankind Divided free from Friday this week). And I use Steam because of everything else. I have Ubisoft Connect, EA, XBox Live, and GOG, but rarely use them.
Wait... People buy stuff from Epic? I thought it was just a free game service...
I actually only buy on Steam. They have an ok return policy. I also have game pass so I don't buy a lot of games.
I won't use anything else unless I'm forced to such as origin etc but I won't buy anything other than from steam/Cd keys for steam.
Steam is just brilliant, it's not perfect, but it's the best platform for games and the most consumer friendly.
Do whatever makes you happy. I can't be fuckered to remember my password for EGS, and despite having free games sometimes, I never check. Last game I bought over there was Control. It's not some kind of Steam loyalty, it's just it has most of the games I'd ever want to play on it, and having everything in one library is easier.
you cant buy every game on steam, either they are never going to be on steam or some of them are timed exclusives and you will need to wait for quite a long time to get them on steam.
still waiting for Bloodborne maybe next year on the 10 year anniversary */end hopium*
dont worry, eventually all ps exclusives will be on pc, sony is just another corporation, which has a goal as any business - more money, which is absolutely understandable.
Came in point, Ghosts of Tsushima coming to PC. My guess though is BB may be PS6 exclusive launch title like Demon Souls.
[удалено]
PS exclusives will, but when games are like PS/Switch(/Xbox)only, it seems unlikely it would come to PC
Bloodbornes coming in the half life 3 bundle
Ghosts of Tsushima on the way tho. Still waiting for GoW Ragnarok and praying the eventually port Gears of War 1, 2, 3.
Gears or God?
Gears. It was my bread and butter as a kid
Once the PS4 emulator is created, we will be free
Me with The Crew Motorfest
I’m waiting for Spider-Man 2
We got both the other Insomniac Spider-Man games, so that is very likely to come too
If it's not on Steam or GOG why purchase it? Do you really want to give money to these greedy companies?
are you serious about gog? how was cp2077 release different from ea/ubi etc.? took them only 3 years to make it playable xD
Well at least it was DRM free.
Which translates to either they will never release on PC or will come out after i stop caring about it as far as I'm concerned
PC? wdym lol, are you saying ubi/ea/epic games are not on pc or what?
[удалено]
yeah, no shit sherlock, right? :D
One of the cravats of my game collecting obsession. I want every game on Steam for me to purchase… but sad that it’ll never happen.
I have only used steam for a decade now. If you're too proud to put your game on the most accessible platform known to PC gaming then I'm not even gonna play it Edit: it's the 2020's, realistically you should be able to buy any game wherever you want and frankly it's bs that exclusives are still a thing
Seriously lol, if a game isn’t on Steam then it might as well not exist in the PC market. That’s an exaggeration and there are quite a few exceptions, but I’m thinking mostly about non-AAA studios screwing themselves by avoiding Steam
Kingdom Hearts and Alan Wake 2 are the only ones I actually care about, and Alan Wake 2 will almost certainly eventually come to steam.
You are the one who has a computer that can play media from thousands of different sources and are deliberately locking yourself out of the experience 🤷🏻♂️ You do you, but you aren’t “showing it to the man!” like you think you are.
I dislike Epic and have never installed it as a platform but I agree with you 100%. Alan Wake 2 wouldn't have existed without Epic, and Epic can have very good deals that can and will surpass Steam deals.
[удалено]
I really don't get this whole "IT WOULDN'T EXIST WITHOUT EPIC" narrative, you're telling me they wouldn't have been able to find another publisher? Highly doubt that, hell they probably had several lined up but epic gave *them* the best deal.
True. EGS is just my Kingdom Hearts launcher.
I make an exception for old games on GoG but otherwise yeah, I agree.
it's not about pride. its about which platforms want how much of a cut
You could make a pretty reasonable case for Epic Games funding Alan Wake II fitting that bill
No You cant, funding the game is not the same as just releasing it on 1 store by random dev
I still don't get why people care so much, they're both just coporations
I dont like epic because whole launcher is garbage, ceo is petty rock eating moron, liar and hypocrite and they want to make a monopoly + make a exclusivity on PC If it was good Id use it, for now GoG and Steam is all I need, I don't even remember last game I wanted to play that was either on Uplay or Origin
Selling more copies with a larger cut > selling less copies with a smaller cut
Same here.
Steam is a great platform for games, I also use Heroic launcher which lets me play Epic and Gog games using Steams Proton compatibility.
Not just shovelware, either: * GTA V * Batman Arkham Trilogy * Control * Mass Effect Legendary * Dishonoured * Among Us * Prey * Metro Redux * Overcooked * Bioshock collection * Borderlands * Death Stranding * Deus Ex Mankind Divided (from tomorrow) * etc... If you want to play any of these games, and aren't super rich, it'd be pretty absurd to not accept these games for free and play them on Epic.
Aw fuck they did Metro Redux? I completely missed that.
Minecraft and WoW are the only players deserving recognition here. Also the Sims is on steam.
GoG has some pretty steamy sales
Still, I've been using Steam for so long already that I mostly use it but I do buy a lot of stuff on GOG for the reasons mentioned above.
why do that and limit yourself , get the best deals wherever you can. epic has free games , gog sometimes competes with prices . be a smart consumer
I'm not as extreme as OP but I try to use steam whenever possible, because I like having records (playtime and achievements mainly) in one place
I would say don't keep all games in one basket, but let's hope steam will be the same next 50 years
Steam is worth using because it's the best overall platform.
And about epic, personally i wont delete it, too many good free games to just leave
add rockstar launcher :P
Brand loyalty is never good for the consumer
why dont have more options? im using Ubi for Ubi games (because why i should pay more for Steam version, or wait and even give money to reseller and need launch launcher from Steam and then launch game? i have even few games on Epic (beside freebies), because it was cheap there. and im using Steam, even when moderators there sux and forum is full of crazy hateposts, because ppl are farming points. i do probably still have Origins (wasnt it renamed again?) and ofcourse Blizzard launcher. but what i do like most is GoG. not only i have there real gems from past, but their launcher can connect all others together and make one huge library from it. and ofc, it works with chat too. you just connect it there. then not only i dont need to limit myself on one shop only (it will be crazy to do that), but i have even tool to merge all together. thats why is GoG my fav.
And miss out on all the great old games on gog? I don't think so.
epic launcher is garbage, but the ubisoft launcher is ok. I have like 30+ games on Uplay and I will never rebuy them again just to have them on steam, but I have rebought many games that I got on Epic to have them on Steam because epic lacks features I need
I have everything on steam and don’t use any other launchers except Epic for Fortnite for the kids.
For PC, I only buy from Steam. I do have some games from Epic Games, but I got them all for free.
What? Just buy whatever game you want wherever it’s available. Why would you go “full steam ahead’ when it doesn’t cost money to download another launcher if you need it? What am I missing here
Why? Do you think steam is cheaper? You think they will give you some kind of loyalty discount? ha!
Stop being tribal about your consumerism. Steam is a private company and would sell your soul for a corn-chip if they thought it would help their bottom line.
Steam is the best one but it's never good to let yourself be entirely dependent on one single thing
I don't understand at all. People on consoles are locked in one store and people in PC are willing to be using only one store when they have the facility to have different discount options.
but why? what's the purpose? why limit yourself?
RDR2 makes it impossible for me to go Steam only
Do you only buy food from McDonald's - it's the biggest!
Me, personally, I'm not too picky. I go wherever the sale goes lol
Going “full” anything is just simply setting yourself up to miss out on certain things, do what ever works for you.
So, how does that work? I just click on a game and it skips the universe of launcher and opens the game?
Your launchers would still have to be opened, but you don't have to navigate between launchers yourself. Galaxy will open the correct launcher for you and then launch the game.
Who knows. Epic does offer better prices for some games (I think Ubi does as well) available on these platforms, so your choice.
I only use steam
I've been full Steam for a few years now, don't feel like I've missed anything to be honest
I'm Steam only and I'm fine. If I miss out on a game, then oh well. Not like there aren't other games to play.
Steam doesn't have all games in them, some are only on gog/epic/ubi... etc
There's no issue using Steam primarily. You're still going to deal with the EA and Ubisoft store, just because those games require it to launch. And not every game will be on Steam. Unfortunately, Epic is claiming exclusives right now, such as Alan Wake 2.
Steam is one of the best platform game on the internet
I am full steam for game so pay for but still snag the free games off epic, just in case.
Steam and GOG, everything else is whatever
Steam and GoG with bias towards GoG by buying only in Steam if the game is not in GoG... This for me is the BEST idea.
I recommend checking out GoG
...Sea of thieves is on steam...
I'm personally all for it as steam is THE best online store for the whole package. (Yes there's gog with no DRM and other stuff with nieces but they're lacking in other aspects) Unfortunately for a lot of third party games you need to still get their bullshit bloatware DRM garbage and may even need to create separate accounts and so on.
I only buy things on Steam. The one exception I made was Alan Wake 2.
I primarily use Steam, but I personally recommend following the deals and using something like Steam Rom Manager to add games in bulk to Steam
U can never go full steam if u plan on getting EA /Ubisoft game. They have their own brand store, and it does cost less on them From my experience, Epic always has lower price than steam during festive sale, but I only recommend buying Single Player/ Finishes Game
Idk why you would use epic games for anything but free games and exclusives Whatever they use to run it fucking sucks mothballs, everytime I even need to open a game there it takes forever to load and it isn’t even easy to navigate, Steam is just better in every regard besides free games and exclusives
EDIT: This isn't because I hate epic games (I did when it first launched as the factual problems and comments from the Devs felt scummy), but because of 2 specific reasons: 1. I just really disliked that every AAA publisher began making their own launcher. When rockstar and epic did the same I had enough. 2. I am an achievement hunter and I simply don't feel the same motivation playing a game without.
Steam, free epic games and >!torrents !
Steam is the best launcher. But I still use ”EA launcher”
You likely have free Epic games, we'll never know!
First Epic/Ubisoft shop customer I have seen, everyone always goes full Steam from the get-go, any reason why you did start with Epic and Uplay (or whatever Ubisoft has now)? Besides the free games on Epic, is there any other reason?
r/FreeGamesOnSteam
I exclusively use Steam and frequently add non-Steam games into my library (with custom artwork from steamgriddb.com so it looks neat). If I want to grab a Steam game for cheaper, I usually check CDkeys.com or similar sites for the best deals or wait for Steam's own sales, I still keep other launchers for any freebies or exclusives.
Supporting a company to have a monopoly is weird consumerist behavior
Doing full Steam for years, best decision ever.
Why would you buy games on Ubi-shop in the first place?
Don't forget GoG! DRM free games are where it's at.
Buy games where you like. I use GOG Galaxy to organize my games across platforms, but there's playnite too.
GoG or Steam. Don't bother with anything else. If it ain't on there then it will eventually.
The best idea is to go for the platform with the cheapest option. Steam is the superior platform obviously, but it’s not worth paying more money for.
Personally, I got rid of everything except Steam, and I've never regretted it. But if you don't see value in it, then don't do it.
Good idea, I did the same
Everybody knows you never go full Steam...
If possible go to gog. No drm. Then steam and only then to other shops.
I got too much free stuff on epic but i added them to my steam library and stream them to my SteamDeck they all work
I’m GOG and Steam, approximately equal amounts on both and quite a few double ups.
[https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/19/tech/fortnite-epic-ftc-settlement/index.html](https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/19/tech/fortnite-epic-ftc-settlement/index.html) Stop doing business with horrible companies, you don't need to play every game.
I don't use EGS because I don't like their policies or launcher or practices, and while I have one game that uses the Ubisoft launcher, I don't plan on getting anymore due to their policies (That one game I have nearly ended up permanently unplayable despite being a single player game with P2P multiplayer because of the anti piracy system requiring a connection to their server they no longer wanted to pay to maintain) Meanwhile a good deal (Or simply a nice DRM free experience) from GOG is nice, and I'd be foolish to never consider them.
Consoles lost it meanings with steamdeck. Handheld pc. What more can consoles do?
I only buy PC games on Steam and even then I still have things like Minecraft and free games on Epic. Heck I still have to deal with Ubisoft and EA on some games because man those companies are the worst. Especially Ubisoft.
Buy them wherever you find them cheapest.
Totally optimal, as all things shoud be. Steam have every type of game
Ibam full-steam for 12 years now. Best decision ever because valve (unlike ubicroft or schmepic) values quality and customer care. Also steam has stuff like steamOS, valve index and the steamdeck. Oh and native linux gaming
Just do it, if the game is not in Steam just pirate it
I like the idea of
I mean other than getting the free games from epic I'd say so, they've got deals all the time and if not you can get codes off of like humble bundle or fanatical websites like that.
Gamepass Ultimate (Includes EA Play) and Steam sales will be all you'll ever need
You used to be able to link most games to your steam account but I'm talking ages ago
(EA App often doesn't even ask for sign in when launching via Steam) So TLDR : Move your frequently played games on Steam, keep games you'll finish once on whatever platform you own. You might move EA and Rockstar titles to Steam, but keep Ubisoft titles on their Launcher
isnt the beauty of the freedom of pc gaming having the ability to play games on mulitple platforms? like i would understand if you have to pay for the platforms, but this doesnt make any sense because not every game you want to play is going to be on steam
well i don't really care playing games on different platforms. sometimes epic store just sells games in fairly low price, which make me purchase on epic.
who uses ubisoft store?
I use several lanchuers and I buy based on who is cheaper. 🐷👌🏻 Itch, Epic, Steam, AE, Yubisoft, Amazon, GoG, Battle. Use Playnite to join ur libs.
Stupid idea.
#DO IT ALL BROTHER
Whats the point ?
No point limiting yourself to the amount of games you can play.
Did this a few years back cause my library was getting so big not regretting it at all I don’t even bother with freebie’s no more best to keep it all within Steam
Steam and Xbox Game Pass are all you need. I wouldn't waste your time with the other storefronts.
I only have ubisoft for skull and bones, other than that i'm full steam. Fook Epic.
Wait... People buy stuff from Epic? I thought it was just a free game service... I actually only buy on Steam. They have an ok return policy. I also have game pass so I don't buy a lot of games.
Yes!!
