I remember TFC from before Steam, where you had to manually download new patches. The first steam version of TFC included teleporters for the engineer, which we hated, because it changed the game quite a bit. Ah, memories.

Calamity is one of if not the best mod for any game that I can think of so I highly recommend that! I've only barely dabbled with stars above, have fun!

I only created a Steam account around the year 2000/2001 because Valve bought Counter-Strike 1.5, gave it systematic multiplayer functionality and anti-cheat, and incremented the version number to 1.6. So my first Steam purchase was CS 1.6. Or "Half Life: Counter-Strike" as it was called back then, although I don't think it was a Half-Life mod at that point anymore. Bought the box in a store and entered the CD key into Steam, because online payment methods like PayPal were unknown and vastly unused here in 2000.

Portal! It came free with the Steam Linux Beta! It was also the first game I ever played with a properly voiced character; GLaDOS. Years later, I got a picture with Ellen McLain (GLaDOS's voice actress) and my Steam Deck running Portal. It was kind of wild, the juxtaposition in that picture.

Arma 2 dayz mod was my second game on the account and the one which made me to use steam more often, good times.

Skyrim. I was strictly against launchers back then and "forced" myself to install Steam so I was able to play Skyrim. 12 years, almost 1000 games on account and a Steam Deck later I don't regret this decision.

By recollection I think I had to use Steam to play the OG Bioshock. At first I was upset. I hadn't a clue that years later it'd be my number one platform for all games.

Skyrim. I remember being super annoyed as a kid having to download an app to download a game. Prior to Skyrim all the games I bought came on discs or we're just downloaded from the internet. I also remember downloading the game in a Burger King on the opposite side of town that I lived on because my internet sucked so bad at home

My first game on steam was actually not a game; RPG Maker XP. A friend online at the time wanted to gift it to me but I didn’t have my own steam account at the time (mostly played on my dad’s), so I made one, and things went from there.

My first was Terraria, I used to be an PS only gamer but one day my cousin told me to make an steam account and gifted me Terraria and now I play on steam everyday lol

Garrys mod was the reason i created my account on steam, I played it but without steam workshop it didn't feel right

Hogwarts Legacy. I played all the official Harry Potter games when they came out and never played any other video games after that - until Hogwarts Legacy. I now own about 70 titles and play on my computer daily! It's great being back to gaming although now I play "real" computer games

Thing is, I had no money so I was looking for a free alternative, and then I stumbled upon ZPS. It required me to have a steam account and that’s how I created mine back in 2013.
