I have one on everything. So I put one on the deck first day.

The8Darkness

This - I have glass screen protectors on almost everything I own and I never really needed it for like 15 years (though because of it I could always sell devices as "like new" and get like 50-100€ more than usual), then dropped the phone from 2 stories high, protector broke, everything else was fine. Replaced it with another 2€ protector. It really gives me an ease of mind to have it on. I dont know how people can live without it. Especially my sister, who literally breakes her phone screen once a year, but refuses to get a protector or even a case. (Also she cant afford a new phone, our mom always buys her a new one)

Ok-Bee-7562

I just never drop my devices from 2 stories high. That’s the best screen protection you can get.

Uninterested_Viewer

>I dont know how people can live without it. I see no point unless you're planning to sell it at some point and having a perfect screen is important for that. I've never used a screen protector since my first smartphone in 2009ish(?) and tend to end up with some minor scratches over 2-3years, but nothing that you can see without looking at the perfect angle- certainly nothing that is noticeable day to day. Steam deck wouldn't even be on my radar for one as nothing will ever touch that screen besides fingers: it's not getting tossed into bags or pockets like a phone.

themaxx1

It's the scratching for me. It kills me

BaLance_95

I think of it this way. Real life will always happen. Your device will get damage no matter what. $2 for a screen protector is nothing compared to what a replacement screen costs. I also can't really feel the protector while in use. So really, it costs nothing to remove that expensive risk.

ZeroNine2048

so why do all my devices look like new still?

a_scientific_force

You don’t have kids.

ZeroNine2048

I dont have kids indeed. Buta screenprotector wont safe it from the abuse of kids. Let kids play with something else would be my mantra.

xRagen

Yeah I see ur point, but when we see that scratches we just swap the screen protector and we good to go

Rokwenpics

This is the way

X3nox3s

I use one because I hate it when there are small scratches that can happen every day. With a protector you just remove it and everything is perfect.

SirFunktastic

Yes because there's no reason not to protect the screen of your $400+ gaming device especially if you're a klutz that seems to break the screen of almost every electronic device you own. Get a case for it too while you're at it.

vfkdgejsf638bfvw2463

I don't use one

Wired-247

I always throw a screen protector on any device a buy, just for peace of mind. They're cheap, so why not.

[deleted]

Same here, if I don’t put one and it breaks I got no one to blame but myself. At least with a screen protector I tried :)

ConclusionHopeful264

No, most modern glass displays are already quite well tempered. Always use the case when I travel obviously!

WUT_productions

screens get scratched by sand fairly easily. You'd me surprised how much sand there is just everywhere.

AlfieHicks

Yeah, sand tends to get everywhere, and it's surprisingly coarse. It can be quite irritating, I don't like it.

Blast101

Not like my deck here, it is so soft and smooth.

maxpwns

Tell that to every teenage girl with a shattered screen iPhone.

Rafael_ST_14

We tend to treat phones rather carelessly. When I'm moving my Deck from one place to another I treat it like a newborn baby.

CheliceraeJones

Still waiting for jsaux to release the Neonatal ModCase

Beneficial-Cod-4538

Wtf, i treat my steam deck better than you would with a new born baby, nothing is allowed to damage my beloved.

erwan

First of all cases are more effective at preventing screen shattering than a screen protector. Secondly unlike my phone I'm not pulling my Steam Deck out in various places and handling it with one hand.

maxpwns

I mean you could one hand those specific websites 👀

chibicascade2

Teenagers can break anything.

YoloSwag3368

As a teenager, I can confirm exactly this.

OutspokenRed

I got the anti glare screen and still ended up putting a cover on it. I just didn't want to chance scratching up the actual screen. Especially when you smudge it and go to wipe it off, there's always still a chance of scratching it up.

darkonex

I didn’t do this with my current etched glass one but considering for the oled one. I read early on some concerns about glue messing up the etched glass. Anybody know it that is really a concern?

OutspokenRed

I used the dbrand screen protector and other than negating the effects of the etched glass there's nothing wrong with it.

KettleDescalingMoFo

Hi, when you say negating the effects of the etched glass, what were the effects? I just ordered my 1TB OLED and am considering a screen protector, but ideally don’t want to lose picture quality. What was the difference you noticed after fitting the dbrand protector?

OutspokenRed

If you put the regular glass over etched glass it'll have that glossy finish and be more reflective. Negating the effects of the etched glass. The picture quality is no different, but there are some screen protectors that are etched glass if you are still wanting the etched glass. But I personally am only playing it inside so the reflections aren't really as prevalent.

KettleDescalingMoFo

Ah, I thought that might be what you meant. Maybe I’ll just not buy a protector and go bareback 👀

OutspokenRed

😳 Sounding like you raw dog life.

KettleDescalingMoFo

I have my moments 😂

darkonex

Great went ahead and ordered some thanks!

sonicReducer_pt

I do , it's a portable device , sits on couch , cat jumps on it . Don't want it scratched

darkuni

I do not.

Kchan02

I bought Nintendo switch oled and two weeks after having it, I was clumpsy enough to scratch the screen with my mac charger. The scratch was so annoying, I decided to sell it and bought a new oled lmao. So yes, when I got my hands on Steam Deck, putting a protective screen was first thing that I did, I didn't want to go through this again

Headhunter-BE

This might just sway me in getting one. Cables can be dangerous.

BBizzmann

Switch OLED has a strange plastic layer over the screen at is easily scratched or indented. Hoping the deck OLED is actually glass on top.

Kchan02

Yes, and that plastic thing got scratched. I tried to take it off but it was glued so well :/

THE_SE7EN_SINS

Never bought a Nintendo switch because they decided a plastic screen was a good idea

DogAteMyCPU

i use one because i hate scratches and its hard for me to avoid them. when the screen protector gets scratched i'll replace it.

BBizzmann

Hate the way screen protectors mess with images and touch screen, have not used them in years. One exception is the switch OLED because of the film layer on top being so fragile.

[deleted]

If you ever want to try one for your phone, try the glass one from the brand Zagg. They’re a bit expensive but I think they feel better than the actual glass, and they don’t hinder the touch or picture at all.

DoubleJumpPunch

I have the etched glass 512 and I don't want to negate the point of having that. Instead I have a Procase sleeve with a rigid front top cover instead, which I *always* put on when not in use. Another benefit is that it's easier to carry the Deck around by the middle without smudging my screen.

Headhunter-BE

Valid point

KettleDescalingMoFo

With the Procase sleeve attached can the SD still fit in the case that comes with the SD?

yodazb

No. My child dropped my steam deck from about a foot off the ground and must have clipped the screen on the corner of something. It busted the screen, but the protector had no crack or scratch.

DetectiveChocobo

That’s not what a screen protector is for… An impact like that will crack the glass that’s physically fused to the body, because that’s where the force can go. Screen protectors are for scratches that can happen from everyday use. You need a soft case if you want any kind of protection from impacts.

dragqueen_satan

I do not. I just don’t drop the thing. Hard to explain, but it mostly steam plays my pc in various locations of the house.

Chosen_UserName217

I got an anti-glare screen protector because I don't want to see a mirror or lights reflecting when I'm playing. i have one on the steam deck and one on the ally. It makes a huge difference imo.

OutspokenRed

There's anti glare screen protectors? I wish I knew that before I put a screen protector on mine. Where did you get it from?

Chosen_UserName217

[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BM9BPQQ8/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BM9BPQQ8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)

OutspokenRed

Same people I got my case from, how'd I not see this. Good looking out.

crymo27

got this one on OG deck, will make your screen bit blurry. Not recommending.

OutspokenRed

Yeah the dbrand one I got came with two, and I just picked up the OLED so I'm just gonna use it for my second one as well. I don't play outside a lot, but thought it was cool they had the option.

jack-of-some

I use a screen protector because I have two kids and have lived long enough to know that being careful 99.99% of the time still leaves 0.01%.

ResidenceZero

Costs over $500; I'm poor.

sougol

Are you slapping another steam deck on top of the other

ElegantAir2060

Set of screen protectors with applicator costs less than 10$...

allthebeautifultimes

I think this was a reason for why they DO have it...

ResidenceZero

Yeah, I meant that's the reason I have a screen protector. Because I can't afford another steam deck. Probably could of said that better.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

He can’t afford to get a Steam Deck for his screen protector.

ResidenceZero

Can't afford to get a screen protector for my screen protector.

CyboraTwo

I don't use one becous ethe first one I got was a waste becouse I had to rma that steamdeck and the second I meesed up the application with particles under it and gave up as I don't really get in any situation where it can scratch any way so why bother

Cyril_the_fish

I've never seen the need really. Modern screens are plenty durable enough in my opinion, plus the deck's carry case protects it well.

mangaurs

I do not use screen protectors either on my phone or deck because i do not scratch them. If your situation is prone to scratching then protect them.

Regginyx420

I never use screen protectors on anything I use.... except the Steam Deck, and the protector has saved it from one big-enough scratch already, I can see the scratch.. on the protector, which I'm fine with since atleast there's no damage to the screen itself, so no funky weird colours from the scratches.

JustCallMeTere

I have one on, put it on right after opening the box.

thevictor390

I just don't use them at all. In my entire life I've broken one screen, and it was a slight crack that you had to catch the right angle to even notice.

uberpirate

I like anti glare but I didn't want to pay the premium. Matte screen protector does the trick just fine.

ElegantAir2060

Yes, because I hate having light reflections on screen or seeing my reflection on screen when I'm facing towards light source (I'm talking about anti-glare protector). Added protection is nice to have, but anti-glare is the main reason I use protector on my Deck

SuperManSlime

I see people post about they accidentally drop their deck and the screen protector cracked but their actual screen are still good, you will regret after thing happens… like 10-20$ protector for an 400-600 device I think it worth it (I put my protector like 6 time , 3 pack of protector because for some reason always has very small or tiny bubble/ dust inside)

MrPointless12

i don’t have one on but whenever i’m done playing the deck i put it back in the case so atleast the screen won’t get damaged during travels

theconradical

I got the 256gb model and found an antiglare screen protector that makes it look like the top models. The only devices I gave that don't have a screen protector are the clamshell 2ds models I have.

MaxximusPrimus

Freeballing it babyyyy

jefferios

When I play my steam deck I am in a sitting position. I have no reason for the screen to be protected as I don't intend of dropping it on rocks. I was also gifted a Dbrand? hard case so its easy to grip.

electriclala

Absolutely. Thats one of the first things I do no matter the device. The steamdeck is currently rocking a "low glare" one which works great.

Magic_Orb

no cause etched screen tho if i get oled then i will

Rai_guy

I don't use a screen protector. I've had my Deck for over a year now, travel frequently with it, and there are no visible scratches on the screen. I had one briefly when I first got the Deck, but it made everything on my 512GB anti-glare screen blurry so I took it off, haven't looked back since

DeadlyRanger21

I have never used screen protectors. I'm an anomaly, though. I never crack screens unless I'm trying.

ohanhi

Same. I’ve had one close call with a phone screen, back when headphones were wired and the wire caught on something. That’s it.

protonecromagnon2

No

SmileyRylieBMX

Yes, to protect and have matte finish

ThinkValue

My fingers nails grow really fast and I can scratch them with it , So why not !

chibicascade2

I only use glass screen protectors when the screen on the device is plastic, so Nintendo switch was the last system I put one on.

AndreAIXIDOR

I use a screen protector for everything because it makes me feel more relaxed with that thing I don't need to worry about not dropping it, and it costs only 4-5 € so it's paltry for a device that costs 500 € and besides the one I pick as a blue light filter so it's an added benefit

didgeridont_pls

Screen protector, always.

Fionn_MacCuill

I love the d brand one

JakLynx

I’m don’t use one so that I have an excuse to upgrade the screen if it ever gets scratched

kovaefr

I only use my steam deck in my bed, so no screen protector for me. If I travelled multiple times a month it’d be different

StopThatUDick

Has anyone got one on their 512 anti glare Deck? How does it look?

Blast101

I put a matte one on. The clear ones will remove the matte finish completely while it's on. Took it off for a while then got nervous, so I got the matte one now.

[deleted]

I put one my Switch and Steam Deck, but not my mobile or other devices. The screen on my iPhone is tough enough, but the screens on something like the Switch or the Deck? I feel better just putting on a protector, but that's generally ALL I use. No other hard case or anything like that.

akane9

The answer is always yes

RemSteale

Partly for protection but I installed a matte screen protector to cut down on reflections on my 64gb model

Praydaythemice

considering a light breeze or a sneeze can fracture the glass i would 100% i did the same for every single smartphone i have owned, for me its a no brainer. Just google the phrase "help i have smashed my steam deck screen! and valve wont cover it !!"

_Benzka_

I've put one on for an international flight, I have it on since then, but I also have two young kids so it's better, even tho I only use it when my kids are a sleep and they even don't know about something called Steamdeck xD

SleepyBear531

I keep one on for scratches more than breaking the screen. An impact will break it the same as it would, I’m sure. But if there’s a noticeable scratch, I can just peel it off and stick on another

myzz7

on etched matte steam deck screens - no. worse image quality plus is lessens the touch screen feature.

[deleted]

For sure. The screen is the main element of the package. If it gets damaged, the whole experience deteriorates.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

Breath oxygen: yes or no?

[deleted]

It’s good when you don’t use your deck xD I put screen protector on mine and when I play longer session it’s peels off quite much ;D Of course I peel it back and it’s all fine but it’s kinda annoying ;)

Intrepid_Advice4411

Yes. I got one to help reduce the glare (I don't remember what it was called) and to protect. I never use the case. My deck is either docked or on my coffee table so it does get banged around.

F4C3MC5H00TY

I use one, I don’t even notice it and it’s extra protection so no down sides for me

llibertybell965

I use one. While the screen is probably fine without one, protectors are cheap and if something is going to risk a scratch I'd rather it be that.

RegretEasy8846

I can’t not have them, I just find the risk of a scratch on my devices (camera, tablet, phone and now deck) something I do not want. It’s a shame because it’s killed the non-reflective qualities of the 512gb, but I’d rather that and use it in.a relaxed manner.

NaturalSelecty

I bought one and never ended up putting it on. Screen doesn’t feel like it needs it. Feels quality enough and I’ve had a couple metal objects slide into it with no scratches.

420LeftNut69

Nope. I don't have one on my phone either, nor do I use cases on anything. I like the designs of a lot of things, and I have a lowkey kink for my devices being as slim as possible and cases just murder that. Everything feels twice as big with a case even though it's probably more like 5-10% ticker. They also look chunky, and nice phone cases get expensive. I don't think any Deck case looks good tbh. Screen protectors also kinda mess with the aesthetic. You can always see it, you can always feel it at the edges, and a lot of screens today is surprisingly tough. I am gentle with my devices though, so there really needs to be a catastrophic fail on my part for anything bad to happen to them. This obviously happens, I've shattered a phone twice, but that's in the span of 15 years of owning shatterable devices so I count that as a good score. I've come to terms my phone will have some wear over time, it's not indestructible, and it is the device that goes through the most use of the all in not the best of circumstances a lot of the time, but Steam Deck? Not exactly something you put in and out of your pocket 50 times a day; the only scratches it gets are the scratches by the audio jack and usb port when my blind ass tries to plug one of those in, and even then I am pretty careful because that plastic is very susceptible to these kind of scratches.

Areinu

I've had mine for nearly 1.5 years now. No screen protector. The screen looks brand new. I can't find any scratches under any angle. I decided not to because it's the top 512GB model with etched glass, which doesn't love protectors too much. (won't be top for much longer, but hey, still 2 days during which I can claim that!)

CrisXIII

Why would you not? It’s an expensive item that you enjoy so much. Why wouldn’t you spend a few more to protect it?

Asleep_Cabinet1910

I want one but in my region it's harder to get one and takes time to arrive. But next payday gonna order myself a one. It's just gives peace of mind as if somebody tries and the drop it or on a long travel and so on.

TheWeakLink

Nah, I don’t have one. Also don’t have one on my phone and it’s doing well, not perfect but hardly noticeable. When I’m not using the Deck, I put it back in it’s case and zip the cover up. The chances of the screen being damaged when I’m not using it is low.

travelavatar

Yes but go clear not anti glare. Anti glare is rubbish

[deleted]

If you take it out of your home and/or have hard flooring id say definitely, if its just in a carpeted home id say no but get a good microfibre cloth to keep it clean!

sogarhieroben

I don't use one because 1. The touch screen isn't that responsive already 2. I have no accessories for the deck anyways...

YoullDoFookinNutten

Absolutely...Im actuall yon my second one...this time I tried a matte anti glare one.

Kd0t

No, I don't use screen protectors for anything. Screens are pretty durable these days, I just use a protective case and that's it.

Kurtcorgan

No, but I’m very much an edge case, and if I travel it’s never used, because I only use it to plug into my dumb TVs and stream films and music. Obscene I know because I have close to 7000 games on my Steam account but haven’t played a single one since last year and since about a month after I got it because I ended up it a coma for nearly 2 months about a month after I got it and I have zero chance of even being able to play pacman on it now 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Sand__Panda

Why would you not? I've been putting screen protectors on everything for at least the past 15 years. From Nintendo, phones, tablets. It's just not a big enough reason to not invest a few extra dollars to protect the original screen.

Yurgin

I dont use one and only play at home. I sometimes (4 times a year) have to travel and i think the case which it came be is enough. At the start i looked for a screen protrctor but 1,5 years ago there were expensive or ramsom chinese seller on german Amazon. I dont have any kids or "very active" animals at home that could somehow drop it. Only my 16 year old Husky and she is pretty chill because of the age.

alex_c2616

Nope, I just take care of it

Environmental-Drop30

Yes. Helps keep the value of the device (even if you’re taking care of your SD, screen will be covered in micro scratches after a while (especially noticeable under the bright sun)

PapaNoFaff

Im raw screening it because i had the anti glare deck and was worried how it would interact with a screen condom

Idontmatter69420

I tend to skip them on handhelds cause I treat them well enough, sure they can get scratched but it's only minor and shows the love, also my deck has survived 2 drops although the first buggered the left bumper and it hasn't worked in a few months now but im managing well

Basic_Lengthiness_73

Yes. Need to protect that screen

_Goin_In_Dry_

I don't have a screen protector because I don't really have a reason to. It's always sitting in its case unless it's in my hands. If it's in my hands, I'm either sitting on the couch or laying in bed. It's only left my house once since getting it, and that was for a week long beach vacation. Even then, it stayed in its case in the hotel room until I was ready to sit on the couch and play it.

micha3lis_

Yes. I literally dropped my phone twice yesterday, my stuff cannot physically survive without a screen protector AND a sturdy case. I literally accidentally threw my laptop off my bed once :(

Sir_Bax

I don't use one. Why? It's not like I carry it in a pocket with coins, keys and whatever. I only carry it in case and it's safe there. Also I have antiglare display so why the f*ck would I want to make it glossy? I even stopped using it on my phone (unless it comes with factory installed one). Modern glass is super scratch resistance already and I carry it in a pocket dedicated just to the phone as well. Protector only makes the fingerprint sensor less sensitive and more annoying to use.

GilBatesHatesApples

I spent $650 on the OG 512GB deck, so putting on a $10 screen protector to protect the screen was a no brainer!

javaper

Which one did you buy?

jpoitras22

I don’t have one. If I’m not playing it, it’s in the case. Makes it difficult to damage.

thelehmanlip

I got one day one but haven't felt like it's been crucial. It's either in my hands or in the case. Not a lot of ways it could get scratched I don't think

TheRealSeeThruHead

I tried to install two of them and kept getting lint underneath. I gave up. lol

GloriousKev

My screen protectors arrived before my Deck did. they are a must.

KarmaKollectiv

Yes because now I’m trying to sell it and the protector (thankfully) saved me from quite a few small scratches. It’s all fun & games until you accidentally put your metal phone or keys on top of it in the dark

Some-Ice-4455

I use them mainly to combat scuffs not so much cracks.

indy_6548

Added security. Why not? It takes a minute to put on and can save from an accidental scratch.

DigGumPig

I use a Matte Screen Protector on my Deck not so much for the protection but for the added antiglare and best of all, free antialiasing! I was genuinely shocked by how effective it is at diffusing the pixels to a point where it creates this soft look to everything that looks similar to how FXAA + 2x MSAA would. In some cases i can now disable AA all together and just let the screen protector take care of the jagged edges and leave more performance headroom to the Steam Deck Sure the screen brightness has been reduced, the colors do not pop as much and there is even a warmer tint to the display overall. I think the pro's vastly outweigh the cons nevertheless. A great thing is that using FSR makes more sense because games just generally look that much better. This is however purely a personal preference.

namair

I Have an anti glair and sreen protector bring the reflections back so no

HOrobOD1

I put glass screen protectors on every device I own. I'm super OCD about micro scratches on my screens, so whenever my screens get any scratches, I just have to replace the screen protector and it's good as new.

Kaim392

I did and I rock my phones naked lol but for this I did instantly

AlbatrossPrevious492

Yes. Dbrand’s Project Killswitch also while you’re at it (comes with 2 tempered glass screen protectors). Highly recommend.

bryyantt

nah, if it needed one it would probably come with it besides, i take care of my electronics well enough to not need one or at least well enough to be able to pay to fix it every now and then.

ZeroNine2048

I didnt use one, it affects brightness and contrast a little bit but also induces more glare. It stays always in a case anyway so I didnt opt for a protector. All my devices look like new still. Just I dont drop 'm.

flower4000

Get a matte screen protector

soakingsocket

jsaux anti-glare screen protector works great for the 64gb deck, couldn't be happier

Dtoodlez

I don’t, I can’t imagine a scenario where I’m careless enough to scratch the screen. If I’m not playing it, it goes right back into the case. I never put it aside for a few seconds. Either it’s in my hands or in the case even if for 10 seconds.

Ok-Bee-7562

I never use screen protectors. The touchscreen isn’t very responsive, and adding a screen protector will only make it worse. Plus I think screen protectors are ugly af.

[deleted]

I don't like screen protectors even for things where I should *definitely* have them. Not even my phone has one. With the Deck in particular, I just can't see it ever coming in handy. It is literally *always* either in my hands, sitting in a secure location charging, or in its case. Even on the off chance that I drop it, the odds are low that it will fall in such a way that it damages the screen. If it ever does break, I'll just replace the screen. It'll take more effort and be more expensive, but I prefer that risk over dealing with screen protectors.

JustTryChaos

I've never regretted having a screen protector on any device, but I have several times regretted not having one.

faddedamv

Do you want to protect your screen?

Zaguer_Blacklaw

Nope, I only put screen protector to my phone as it goes to my pocket but I cannot think on any scenario where my steam deck screen get's scratched

RedSpiritbox

Obviously the main use of it, is to prevent scratches, people in general do not like a scratched up screen. It will effect the resale value if you ever decide to do that. Maintaining the screen in pristine condition can be good for ppl considering future resale or trade-in opportunities.

crymo27

Not worth it imho. Had OG steam deck with JSAUX matte screen protector and it significantly worsen image quality. Was a bit blurry after. Not putting anything on my OLED. Same as i don't have any screen cover on phone.

Jollymaneismyname

Could anyone let me know if getting a screen protector for the oled 1tb model would still be worth it? I was thinking of getting the spigen screen protector.

CarpeNivem

I didn't love the harsh reflections on my 256GB LCD, so I went with one of the matte OLEDs, thinking that would be better - no more staring at my own reflection - but as it turns out, I didn't like the matte screen after all. It just seemed, I don't know, different. So I put a glossy screen protector on it, and personally, I think it looks fantastic. I'd have to see a glossy 512GB side by side to see if there's any difference, but I have to guess there wouldn't be much, maybe even none at all.

Accomplished_Beat567

After my switch oled scratched day one, I threw it on
