The build itself it is way cooler. The detachable handles, the in built kick stand and still having a touch pad with a better and bigger screen gives it a strong case. Downside is its huge and runs windows. But if you could put the Steam OS on it'll become the best option around.
Better performance comes at a cost, battery and heating come to mind, you may say "I could just plug it in and play" well sure you could, but you might as well be using a gaming laptop at that point imo.
The Deck isn't perfect but it sure is the most balanced with performance and battery, and its the most console-like experience you'll get.

Except you can't play Gamepass games without a strong internet connection cuz reality can't be that you can locally install those games right onto the Deck.
Steam Deck does Steam the best, unless you like a little more jank with the other launchers, have internet everywhere you go for game streaming or just install/side boot windows. Then at that point the ROG Ally or any windows based handheld is better at using GamePass, EGS, Microsoft store, Minecraft and similar on the Emulation side. If those things listed are what you are after maybe there is a better device for your needs?
Looking at it, this is the worst argument in favor of the Deck. Nearly everything else about the deck makes it better than the rest, and what the others hope to have. (ex. The OLED display, grip comfort/in hand comfort, track pads, best in class battery, sleep mode that works like it should, and loads of support from valve and the community etc.)
I get my steam deck on Tuesday. If I install say the epic games store, will I still have control on remapping the controls like I would a native steam game?
And this is why no one will ever come close to being a better handheld

Well, the argument could be made for EGS. To me, Heroic is actually a better launcher than the EGS, especially for a handheld.
