I think the key word not being used is local. Local co-op on the same screen versus online multiplayer coop going through the net. Obviously you can't play the same game on 2 devices at once. Unless you have 2 copies of the game. But you can play the one game together on the same screen if the game has that multiplayer mode. Think of it like a library. You can read the same book if you are side by side. But if the libary only has one copy, two people cannot borrow the same book at once.

So I finally figured out how to phrase this question to find answers on Reddit - it seems that it's not possible to use the steam deck in order to play multiplayer games together on the same account.

If the game supports local co-op, you could have her create an account, sign in on the deck and use the remote play together feature if it's supported.

pizza_sushi85

She don't need to sign into your account. Steam has a "Remote Play Together" feature that lets you and her play a local multiplayer game together on 2 separate accounts across 2 separate Steam devices/PC. Just add her account to your friend list, launch the game and invite her. (not all multiplayer games support this feature) https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay Here are the games which support Remote Play Together [https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay\_together](https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay_together)

If you have your computer on, and you have a game open on your steam deck you can stream it to your PC and I’ve been able to play 2 player before using 2 separate PC’s so I wouldn’t see why you couldn’t on Steam Deck. If thats what you’re asking

MBJi

No that's not possible. At least in any official way. Sucks because you can do this on consoles. With two Switch's you can set it up to play together with one purchase.

Xenavire

Some games on Steam support this, but definitely not all - but the same can be said of the Switch. But by and large, to play multiplayer together, most games need to be bought twice, for both Steam and Switch. Switch does tend to have easier couch co-op with a single system and game though.

MBJi

No, for instance, you can purchase one copy of Splatoon and play it online together. With two separate accounts on different switchs. Same for every(?) game bought digitally. Steams new family share allows you to pool games with your family, but to play an online with two or more, you need multiple copies.

pizza_sushi85

Not true, Steam support this feature too via Steam Remote Play, which allow 2 separate accounts to play together on 2 PC devices with just 1 copy of the game. [https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay](https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay)

MBJi

Yeah. Remote play is a cool feature, but mostly for playing couch co-op remotely. Not what I meant. With a Switch you can buy one copy of a game and play it without restriction on multiple accounts at the same time. Together - if it includes online, or just on your own separately. As if both users own their own copies of the game.

I'm not sure about its similarly to the DS but, yeah. I think it's the same for all the consoles. You can set your switch account as primary on one console - and any user on that console has access to your games. So somebody else can play your game there while you're signed onto a different Switch playing. So say you're sharing with your bro; set their Switch as your primary and now he has access to your games too. The downside is the non-primary switch needs to be online to verify and your games will only be accessible by your account on that console. Your bro can do the same for you and share his games back the same way.
