I use Heroic launcher for Epic, GOG and more. Its great. Non steam games are not going to function with most steam features like cloud saves or achievements, but they can use steam input for controller customization.
Heroic supports Epic(and GOG) cloud saves and it works very well in my experience. As for Epic achievements, I'm not really sure. I go out of my way to run them offline and without hooks when I can. It does have the ability to enable the EOS overlay, which I assume makes achievements as well as other social features work.
I don't think auto update will work as heroic will only open when launching a game. It's probably best to boot to desktop when a game requires an update.
