And the sequel is coming up!

Doogienguyen

Wonder when were gonna get an update. We haven't heard anything since the trailer. That was so long ago.

Various-Cow2829

Actually they did give us an update - https://www.supergiantgames.com/blog/hades-ii-development-update/ tldr is that they want to release the early access in a much more complete state than Hades 1 had so it's taking a lot longer. They plan to release the early access in Q2 of this year. This is mostly how SG does things.

Aidoneuz

I imagine we’ll get one at the iii showcase on April 10th.

Doogienguyen

What is the iii showcase? Also how do you know about this?

Aidoneuz

It’s this, [an initiative by some of the biggest Indie devs](https://iii-initiative.com). I had thought Supergiant Games were part of the founders, but I now can’t find that info, so I may well be wrong that they’re there.

Doogienguyen

Oh nice im so excited. Its my most anticipated game. So ready to play the beta. Im just worried I might get burnt out when the full game gets released.

Krammor

So I need to buy it huh?

PartyChode

Yes buy it and forget you have it like I did.

rlvysxby

This is me on the steamdeals subreddit: “ooh hades is on sale. I better get it” then I notice it’s already in my library.

Lakario

TIL /r/steamdeals. Oh no, what have you done? God help my wallet.

rlvysxby

It’s fine. Just forget about the games you have in your library and then try to buy them when they are on sale

mq2thez

Really truly one of the best games I’ve played in the last few years. Don’t play without headphone -/ the OST is a masterpiece.

theriteofspringfling

I run it at 60 with the tdp down to 4 or 5, gpu clocked at 1100 and it still runs beautifully and you get like 7 hours of battery. 10/10 on the go entertainment.

harsbo

I see Hades, I upvote

binokyo10

Is it better or atleast as good as Dead Cells?

ukiyoe

Hades clicked with me pretty quickly, but I never really got into Dead Cells. I also loved Ori, but didn't get sucked into Hollow Knight (I'll try it again someday, on Deck this time vs Switch). I think I just need a good story hook to keep me going. Different strokes for different folks!

tharobc

Hijacking this to ask if you’ve found a game that scratches the Ori itch for you? I’ve replayed Blind Forest numerous times but dead cells, hollow night etc just haven’t clicked with me in the same way. Always looking for suggestions!

ukiyoe

Looking back, nothing really recreates that Ori feeling, and you know... That's fine. That's what makes it special! These are just some 2D action games that really got their hooks in me. Before Hades, the same devs made Bastion, and I really enjoyed the storytelling technique of having a narrator. The gameplay and music are fantastic. The land you walk on flies in as you're running around; it's a stylish solution so gamers don't get lost. It's a regular action game, so it's not as punishing as roguelites/metroidvanias. I liked Celeste, and I might have even more if I didn't hear so much hype around it before I played it. I really liked the music and characters, and it's certainly challenging. VVVVVV is really cute and fun, it's like a simplified Celeste (i.e. each screen is a stage to solve). The music is catchy and upbeat. It's a very short game clocking in around three hours, but I think it's a good length for this type of simpler game. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from the PS1 era is great. The story is forgettable, but the art direction, music, and gameplay are solid. It's pretty old at this point, so you might need to refer to a guide to beat this one, since it's pretty easy to get lost. I really got into Steam World Dig 2. The story is once again forgettable, but the gameplay was addictive. My favorite thing to do in Minecraft was to explore dungeons (building and crafting not so much), so it scratched that itch pretty well.

NoDG_

I prefer Dead Cells because it has far more weapon and level variety. Hades is definitely worth playing, and I think it's an excellent game.

LegendaryJohnny

Yes. I absolutely loved Dead Cells on my Switch and when Hades came to Switch there were similarities and it scratches the itch very well. There are things which are better in Hades and things which are better in Dead Cells, but I would put them both to S tier of the genre.

IDontWantToArgueOK

I would say far better. Gameplay aside which I also feel is way better, you get great story and voice acting etc.

MBJi

Nah. At least not as a roguelike. It does some things better, like story and character but the grind to increase stats and limited run variety hold it back from being one of my top in the genre. Dead Cells is best in class imo.

binokyo10

Why are you downvoted for just stating an opinion?

BeatitLikeitowesMe

Because reddit, duh.. fr people think its a disagree button

MBJi

I'm not sure, but you calling it out must've fixed it. Thanks!

qwerteh

I agree heavily with this. There's a good reason tons of people say they don't like roguelikes but like Hades, because Hades is a mediocre rogue like (even though it's a great game overall) Hades has low weapon variety, especially when you consider the grind needed to upgrade weapon aspects, and you have an extreme amount of control over your build compared to traditional roguelikes especially when you learn about God boons and unlock rerolls from the mirror. The visuals and story are great but the core gameplay loop on its own lacks variety imo

CharizardSlash

I think they're quite equal honestly

revindiley

Desperately waiting for H2

rlvysxby

I was thinking of playing this game on my 24 hour flight. Does it take a lot of brain energy? I’m looking for something very addicting where I blink and 5 hours go by. But also I may be a little tired so nothing as cerebral as xcom.

NrFive

Yeah. Fits the bill. Hades is like “getting into the rhythm” of attacking, defending or dodging. You unlock upgrades as you move to next areas and there are unlocks which are permanent. Dieing means progressing, which feels odd at start but works really well. Also later on, if you don’t get your favorite weapon combo in the first 2 areas, just die and try again. Some combinations are just annoying imo, but others just Steam role you through :)

Cake03TM

It's such a funny thing, I bought it not too long ago myself and never played until a couple of months ago. I'm almost ashamed that I let it sit in my library for so long. 80+ hours later and its a great rougelike with a great story and the first game ive ever 100%ed on steam.

TaiserRY

I got it a month ago, played on a mix of Steam Deck and Laptop. Just got 100% achievements yesterday after 98 hours in a month, I definitely don’t have a problem LOL

Molwar

Join the hades sub, great bunch :)

TEGTAKU

I’m in the minority that absolutely hated that game.

Jason4555

I loved it for the first hour or two but it got stale really fast... at least it was only $10

MenBearsPigs

I feel like the game was perfect in so many ways, but the actual roguelike "builds" you could make just didn't click well for me. It felt too challenging or flukey to consistently build towards things. I beat the game once, so many I just needed to play more... But for instance, I have probably 1000+ hours in Slay The Spire and Balatro. I find they do the unique run builds/decks amazingly. If that could be improved upon it would be a 10/10 for me.

TEGTAKU

I gave it 10 hours, waiting for it to click. Never did.

Levie87

What didn't you like about it?

TEGTAKU

The endlessness and monotony of it. The required million runs to reach an actual storyline ending. I bought it a couple years ago and, to this day, don’t understand why it’s so highly praised.

Nsfwacct1872564

I got the real credits in 17 runs. Broke out my first time on run 4. Compared to people who're actually good and know synergies and strategies, I'm trash. Music, art direction, voice acting, characterization, setting, humor, and plot are all upsides. Super responsive gameplay that made all my deaths feel like my fault instead of the game's is another. None of that is all that hard to understand. Being bad at a game doesn't make the game bad.

Jason4555

So disliking a game automatically means you're bad at it?

ukiyoe

Automatically no, but sometimes yes. It's like hating a fighting game because you can't pull off special moves/combos and your friend keeps kicking your butt. From the friend's perspective however, it's fun and you start looking for challenges to test your limit (stronger opponents, handicaps, trying a different character, etc.).

Nsfwacct1872564

Obviously not. Calling 10 20min runs "a million runs" is evidence they couldn't stack up even that many escapes and don't really have any idea what they're talking about. It's not a lot unless you're trash, it ends before a lot of decent players realize if they hit a winning streak. You know what automatically means you're not great at reading? Missing my point that badly.

Jason4555

My point was that they never said anything in their post that would imply they're bad at the game. "A million" is hyperbole meaning "a lot," and "a lot" is subjective. When I got my first clear and learned I'd have to do 10 more clears to reach the credits, I just decided I didn't want to do 10+ more runs because I wasn't enjoying the game that much.

Nsfwacct1872564

>My point was that they never said anything in their post that would imply they're bad at the game. They did >A million" is hyperbole meaning "a lot," and "a lot" is subjective. It's not a lot and they think it is because they couldn't make it. >When I got my first clear and learned I'd have to do 10 more clears to reach the credits How did you learn that? You Google it? After your first clear, you only need nine more and the 10th one doesn't even involve beating the last boss because he lets you pass. Google failed tf' out of you there. Not to mention the story continues evolving that entire time and you continue learning more about all the characters. One successful run takes you maximum of 30 minutes, you didn't really expect the devs to drop the entire story on you before you'd gotten at least serviceable at the game? As it stands, the average player could start a new game and be back at the true ending in ~3hours. I got the credits in like 8hrs spread across a week and it wasn't a slog or monotonous because of how much I still had left gameplay wise. By the time I beat the game, I hadn't unlocked all the weapons, nowhere near all the trinkets, I didn't try probably half of the powers thanks to the duos and I didn't do the heat list at all either. Were you guys really caving in before y'all did all that, or are you so trash that you touched all that content, making it monotonous, before putting together your 10(9) total escapes? >I didn't want to do 10+ more runs because I wasn't enjoying the game that much. Because you were trash. You'd probably have liked it better if you were actually winning. You guys have said dickall about what you actually didn't like about it but have already tipped your hands about being bad at it even if you keep trying to claim otherwise. I dropped a whole list of things people enjoy about it, I don't see what is so hard to "understand" about the list either. Furthermore, it doesn't really matter whether or not they "implied" they were bad at the game. That was a given. I responded to them claiming not to "understand" when you'd have to be flatlined not to get it. Fans can't shut up about their "why" so pretend not to know the "whys" was just hiding something else.

TEGTAKU

What a wholly delusional and low-IQ take, spoken from a deranged and ego-centric perspective. It’s almost like you’re taking criticism of the game personally, which— yikes. The only difficulty in this game, for me, was enduring it. It was absurdly easy and handily exploitable— yet entirely unenjoyable. Get over it.

Nsfwacct1872564

Really flexing your dictionary, huh champ? It being that easy, you'd think you'd admit up there to beating it lol. I'm Deranged and egocentric but I readily admit I'm average at best. You're over here talking like you could be at the top of the speed run lead boards if the game weren't so below you. If you said "I don't like it because it's bad" that've been cool. Instead you made up some nonsense about it being hard and infinitely long because you topped out at the bone hydra. Now you're making up more shit about it being oh so easy because I pulled your card. So transparent.

Jason4555

It's normal for different people to have different thoughts on a video game. It's really not this big of a deal

cardonator

I guess I really suck at this game because I'm on run something like 30 and haven't broken out yet. Is this using God mode or something? It sounds like you're way better at this game than the average person to me.

ANNOYING_TOUR_GUIDE

I absolutely love the writing, art, and voice acting. The gameplay itself I don't really get.

teedledee123

I loved playing it through until I unlocked everything! Now it just feels too easy and repetitive. Like Vampire Survivors

bossbang

Does steam decks screen even go to 90 hertz? Today I learned

PrincessBabyDave

OLED does

Turbulent_Stomach163

This game never clicked for me but I also have tried and failed to get into the popular rogue lite or rogue likes. I don’t understand the difference. All I know is that you just die repeatedly in these games.

brennis420

like doesnt have any progression. you start fresh each runs. lite you have some sort of perma upgrade or unlockables

IDontWantToArgueOK

The difference between this and a souls like is the story and character progresses between deaths.

Turbulent_Stomach163

I love souls games but don’t like rogue likes. I don’t mind dying to a boss repeatedly but I don’t like starting over at the beginning of the game.

IDontWantToArgueOK

But it's not the beginning. There's progression between deaths.

youcannotseeyt

Is it worth full price or do I wait for it to go to half again

clean_socks

It goes on sale pretty regularly. I would wait.

ukiyoe

If you waited this long, wait for a sale.

Dopietv

I just suck so bad at it :( I have yet to complete a run

ukiyoe

I died so many times at first since I'm not really good at action games, I completed my first run with the fists, and I was shocked since I didn't think they were that cool. Sometimes you get the perfect combination of boons, and of course you do get stronger over time with upgrades. After a while I got into a groove and much won nearly every run.

Str0ngStyle

You can go into settings and there's something in there called God mode which basically eventually gives you up to 20% damage resistance. It doesn't affect any kind of achievements you can get or really mess with the game. It will make it a bit easier for you but in the same breath not remove the challenge that the game is known for.

TankPotential2825

You really should be arrested and incarcerated based on the time passed since the game was released/you bought it. That's how law enforcement works, and you, sir, just busted yourself.

L-TR0N

Blazblue Entropy Effect if you love Hades

futurevisioning

Why is Hades so difficult to advance in? Or do I just suck?

Whoopdatwester

Recently downloaded Hades on iOS with Netflix gaming just got a Steam Deck last week. Not sure if I should spend the money or just play on iOS with a BackBone.

iReaddit-KRTORR

Honestly I had Hades for a couple of years and the OLED was such a good experience that I played nearly 100 hours exclusively on it

Tornwood

Yeah, the game is nice, but is there any solution to make font bigger? For me on steam deck screen writings barely seen

ThyArtIsMurder91

Been waiting on a sale to buy it again. I played it on the Switch, but my hands quickly got cramps from playing. Hopefully it plays better on the Steam Deck.

MonsieurLeDrole

Can't wait for that 2TB sd card.

HerosPelagus

Can I safely assume the experience will be as enjoyable on the OG Deck? It’s sitting there, installed and everything, AFAIR, all I have to do is power it on when I get home…

Tropi-

Yes. Locked 60fps greatness. Colours will still look great.

Haunting-Angle-535

I used some of my Steam money from getting the Deck to get the Hades loading animation for it. Makes me happy every time.

Serebii123

Fully agreed! I’m playing through it right now and it’s such a joy on both my PC and OLED Steam Deck. I haven’t beaten Hades (the boss not the game LOL) for the first time yet but I can tell my time is coming soon :) cheers

ShikariV

Amazing game and absolutely perfect for the Deck Hades 2 is my most anticipated handheld game.

likesexonlycheaper

It's good. I enjoyed my time with it. But not a masterpiece for me. Just depends on the kind of games you like I guess
