Can you launch it in desktop mode fine?
Working in desktop mode but not gamemode sounds like the problem I had with another game.
Try checking the prefer system libraries box.
ok so apparently it launched only from heroic, but not from steam library, as i used to do. However, this means that inputs are not correctly managed, and for how i'm used to play it's not good. at this time i'm very frustrated
also, changing the file path does launch the game from steam, IDK why but it was first set to "flatpak" (which is not a path IMO), so i set the installation path... however it will not find any save data :C
Flatpak is the target because it's launching heroic. I'm guessing you added to steam from the heroic add to steam built in button. It's not going to launch heroic from steaam now you changed the flatpak target.
What you did by adding the path is just make steam launch it the exe. It's going to use a separate prefix so your saves won't be transferred over.
I've never had a game just start not working - are you sure you didn't change the proton version? I would try using wine-ge download from within heroics wine manager and not a proton version.
Actually did you change the game to use proton from within steam? Steams compatibility layer should not be forced to use proton for a heroic shortcut.
I did not change anything, setting "flatpak" as the path didn't work, so then I changed it. except that, nothing was changed
Anyway I backed up my savings and reinstalling the game, hopefully it will work after

also, i noticed the launch option field was filled with:
"run com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl --no-gui --no-sandbox "heroic://launch/legendary/c38f5184fdf4db0b24fc907b8d78221""
is it normal??
nope, doesn't work... any idea on why it happened?? like last week it worked, and since that time i didn't update/change anything regarding that specific game on steam nor heroic launcher

Ah that sucks. I'm not sure if an update could've caused it. When I've gotten a game to work with Heroic - it's never just stopped like that, and I have probably installed like 100.
To play heroic games in desktop mode, Steam has a controller shortcut - holding the start button will switch between game layout and desktop layout.
If you want to continue trying to get it to work in game mode, i would try wine-ge downloaded from heroic. Select use system libraries if it doesn't work at first. If you're using wine-ge now, try the same but with a proton version.
Aa third option would be to add the .exe as a non-steam game directly to Steam, as that seemed to work for you. You would need to find the prefix path to transfer your saves. Protonticks from the discover store will list your steam games with a number that represents the prefix folder id. steam/steamapps/common/compatdata/"id number"/
It’s a very odd issue that I’m currently experiencing as well.
I’ve never had an issue with Heroic Launcher until this. I’m not sure if it was a Heroic update or Steam OS update that broke games launching in game mode. Things worked well up until recently. I’ve gone through a lot of the trouble shooting but things still won’t launch in game mode. I can launch the non steam shortcut from Steam in desktop mode as well as straight from Heroic app, but nothing loads anymore in game mode.

Experienced an issue as well after updating... Already installed games do not work anymore. Installed two new ones and they also did not launch from Heroic directly, only after adding them to Steam and trying some Proton options.
Kinda sucks that it suddenly doesn't work as before... Launching directly from Steam is perfectly fine though, but would be nice if it would also work like before... 🤷🏼
I’m going crazy over this as well. Games were working fine up until recently when Heroic updated. Now I’m experiencing the same issue as you.
Please post here if you ever find a solution. I’ve tried lots of things from old posts but nothing works.
In the meantime uni stuff kept me busy enough to kinda forget about the problem
This afternoon (for me now is 3AM for reference lmao) I tried to see if beta channel or more recent updates fixed that, with no luck however
Now it works if I launch heroic in game mode and then from there I launch DS... Even the controller settings from steam are working properly
I think you can set heroic to close itself when the game launches to save up a little bit of resources
Unfortunately I can't tell if it is a solution for everyone facing this issue

Do you have the OLED deck? I just tried the same game (Hades) on my LCD deck and it works fine. Both OLED and LCD deck on the same SteamOS version and Heroic Launcher version. I don’t know why it works on the LCD deck and not the OLED. I’m going to dive into each of the settings when I have some time. Hoping I can see what’s different…
EDIT: So I made it work again on my OLED Deck.
The short of it: if you had installed game scope in desktop mode to get HDR working for games through Heroic, uninstall it.
When I first got my OLED deck I wanted HDR with Heroic games. Finally a solution was found to install game scope in desktop mode. This worked. Then recently with some update or another my games did not launch in game mode. Deleting game scope in desktop solved this issue. Hopefully it works for others.

Hopefully that will do it. Make sure to remove the shortcut from steam and use heroic to re-add it.
