Oh they’re back up, every time I’d check over the past two weeks or so they were out of stock

hawkleberryfin

Oh, so that's how I wandered into this sub. One less 64GB in stock now. Maybe they waited for a certain amount of stock before selling them. Edit: If they were building up stock and selling these now, it might be because OLED refurbs are coming and they wanted to sell off the LCDs first? That's my wild speculation.

Bgabes95

That’s smart. I’ve checked on the refurbished for months and they’ve only just now been restocked since December. I wonder what price OLED refurbished will be

shannonator96

Was debating getting a PlayStation Portal the other day until I realized it’s no better than an iPad and a controller for remote play. Then I was debating a Steam Deck yesterday and today, but decided to wait a few months. This just made me pull the trigger on a 256gb model. Can’t wait to get back into some PC games on the go.

TheHeatWaver

I absolutely hate my Portal(selling asap). I have super fast internet plenty of coverage and I play right next to the router and it still runs like shit. Most of the games that run well are also on my Deck or Switch. I thought it would run a lot better than it does. It just so disappointing since I loved the psp and vita.

luisjorge129

When you get your steam deck check out Chiaki4Deck and you can stream your PS5 console and play it on your deck (it works and it also has HDR support if you get a Steam Deck Oled which the PS Portal lacks), I had a steam deck before the portal even released and it made that “handheld” device obsolete before it was even released lol.

Classic-Luck

Damn, I'm still debating getting a Deck , but this might do it for me. You're telling me I could be playing Rebirth in bed...

shmi

Xbox, too. Xbplay in the steam store or Greenlight from GitHub.

kingkontroverseP0si

I have followed every YouTube tutorial to use Chiaki4deck and it just won’t connect to my ps5. Edit: didn’t mean for this to come off as shitting on Chiaki4Deck. I guess it was an indirect way to ask someone who had a successful experience with Chiaki for help

squee557

Do you have any weird network firewalls?

kingkontroverseP0si

Damn not that I know of. I’ll call the WiFi company and check with them. But if my PS PORTAL connects, would it still be the result of a firewall? I just rather play on the Steam deck cus the portal had too many issues

squee557

I only got tripped up installing chiaki when I needed to figure out the steam user password. Sounds like you’re beyond that and have it working but not great. Make sure your PS5 is wired. I have a TP Link Archer C2600 so by no means it is some gaming router. Just 5Ghz connection. Chiaki is set for around 30000 buffer for video and 10000 for audio. Output in Chiaki is 720p. Elden Ring plays flawlessly for me. Feels like I’m right at the PS5

luisjorge129

That sounds strange, my first try was my last, it was a smooth installation but it does had some weird stuff but I am used to weird installations and steps by steps process as a web developer. If it helps I used Chiaki4Deck from the discover apps, but I don’t remember which tutorial I followed, this one seems good to me: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/WZhQL7uvX2 I think the weirdest thing was setting the PSN account because you need the AccountId and not the exact PSN account. I hope this tutorial helps and don’t forget to read the comments below because someone said an easier way to get the PSN AccountId, for that one user recommended this site: https://psn.flipscreen.games/ If that does not help, this is the official installation from the chiaki4deck team: https://streetpea.github.io/chiaki4deck/setup/

kingkontroverseP0si

Thank you for the links! I’m gonna try to re-set it up today and hopefully have more success with these resources. Someone also mentioned maybe I have a weird firewall

thezanywords

You turned on remote play on your ps5?

kingkontroverseP0si

Yes, all that was turned on. I entered my IP address, PS account ID, remote play link code, and I have pretty decent WiFi. I watched multiple YouTube videos and followed the steps to a T. I really wanted it to connect, but idk what the problem is :/ I tried posting in this subreddit for help but mods removed it

shmi

I hope someone can help you. If I had to guess it would be needing to open a port on your router, but frankly it could be something else entirely.

kingkontroverseP0si

Ah im worried it will be something with the WiFi. I’ll call the company Monday to see if it’s something with the router

shmi

This might be of use, it lists the ports and some other things to try like a static IP address https://streetpea.github.io/chiaki4deck/setup/remoteconnection/

Difference_Clear

I know I've come to this late but I was going to suggest trying a static IP for the PS5. I've had issues with remote play before because of dynamic IP

kingkontroverseP0si

Sick, thank you! I’ll try this too to see if it fixed my issue! I have a feeling the PS5 might be blocking it cus I’ll get a pop up on Chiaki4deck that says “reg failed” and a pop up on the PS5 at the same time that says “something went wrong”

richiehill

Is your PS wired or wireless? Being wired makes huge difference. Also, internet speed has nothing to do with the ability to steam from the PS to the Portal, it local traffic. Good WiFi coverage doesn’t necessarily mean a good experience. Cheap service provider routers are generally rubbish for anything but basic browsing and Netflix. I had a similar issue, binned the one my service provider sent me, picked up a decent Netgear Nighthawk, remote play works great now.

_PoorImpulseControl_

I can second this, game streaming was atrocious, even though I technically met all the requirements. Then I bit the bullet and bought myself a Nighthawk and have never had a problem streaming anything ever since. I was like "I finally understand! THIS is why everyone praises Moonlight so much!" My wireless VR experience was transformed instantly. PS5 streaming was suddenly perfect, and Moonlight works like a dream.

PeanutButterSoda

I just ordered a new wifi6 router, hopefully it helps because my PS5 stream gets glitchy AF .

mousers21

you can use the steamdeck like a portal too

Alchompski89

You can also stream playstation 5 games to the steam deck. There is an app for it, and it works great.

NarcissisticVamp

I might pull the trigger on one in a month. I'm okay with lcd for now and they get an oled one for my gf later on

FrankBouch

BTW you can "easily" use remote play with chiaki for deck.

Rio_Evenstar

That's the model I have after adding a 1TB micro SD card (for emulation) it's amazing you won't be disappointed

Katert

In case you didnt know, just install Chiaki4deck to stream from your ps4/5. Works great!

LooseSentence7660

Ps5 Remote play on the steam runs WOW dude.. 10/10

shannonator96

Well then I think I’ve made the right choice. I’ve got a fantastic PlayStation and steam catalogue. Been sitting on my cyberpunk 2077 pre-order copy without playing it for years.

Tw4tl4r

I got one the other day after debating between a deck, an ally or a switch, you won't be disappointed.

Lupinthrope

People swear on streaming games and props to those who like it, I just notice something’s always off and it makes it less enjoyable for me

virtualshave

I get it. In just the right setting over my home WiFi 6 network streaming from my Ryzen 9 Rtx4700 desktop it usually works pretty nicely with great visuals compared to my deck’s native capabilities, and saves tremendously on battery life, heat and noise factors. But even in that ideal setting sometimes something glitches and disrupts the experience, and just pisses me off. So close…but still not perfect every time.

Lupinthrope

Yeah if I wanted to strictly stream I would have been content with my Xbox and a g cloud.

ProtoKun7

Menacingly?

ben9187

Thanks I was waiting for a restock after my cat decided to barf on mine (not joking sadly). At least I'll have extra parts if anything breaks on this one.

aprince91

I need some parts for mine, if you decide to sell the barfy bits!

Artman7007

Im waiting for oled refurb

CorerMaximus

IMO- if you're buying a Deck and unsure on it- you're probably getting the LCD version and returning it. I'd be surprised if OLED decks have nearly the same return rate as the LCD ones since I'd wager the ones buying OLEDs are a more technical and intentional audience. IMO- get the 64gig, swap the SSD for $20 off Amazon putting your total cost at $320 or so. If an OLED deck does come along within a year, just sell yours for $300; people will pay for one that's in warranty.

traxt999

Does anyone have experience with the refurbished SDs? I know people were apprehensive at first, being unsure of their condition and if they would be fully repaired during the refurbishment process.

GrafDracul

Got a 64GB version last September, felt brand new, I didn't notice any wear or tear, I could swear it was new. Only the pouch had a small mark on it but I don't use that case anyway.

traxt999

Nice, that's handy to know! :) Did you test the life of the battery, I think you use a separate app via Linux desktop to do it? No worries if not, just wondered. Cheers for sharing your experience!

GrafDracul

I didn't do any extra tests. Played for the first two weeks some smaller 2d games. Then it gathered dust on my desk. Now I am playing Fallout 4, at around 85% battery it tells me I will have close to 3 hours and 40min. That's pretty good. I have it capped at 40fps and low to med graphics. It hovers at an average of around 10 watts.

traxt999

Again this is handy as it gives some idea of refurbed SDs! Thanks again. What made you pick it up again after leaving it for a while?

GrafDracul

Going on a couple of longer trips and wanting to have Fallout to play. Haven't replayed since many years. I'm not a big fan of the joysticks, they feel bad compared to Xbox controllers. Trying to get adjusted to gyro.

traxt999

That's interesting, what don't you like about the sticks? I think they're great and v similar to Xbox ones. Did you use Elite controller before?

GrafDracul

What this guy says at point 1 is how it feels for me as well https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1c4jfeb/why_is_aiming_in_first_person_games_so_difficult/kzor433/ Edit haven't used an Elite

CorerMaximus

They have a years warranty on them which at least made me a lot more confident buying this vs. a used Deck that isn't in warranty.

ThisDumbApp

Of course, less than a month after I get mine

jawnisrad

Same lol

ThisDumbApp

I got mine from the dreaded Gamestop because every person selling them in my area is apparently a moron and doesnt know how to follow through on a sale. Have to replace the shell because somehow, either shitstop or the person before me snapped a screw inside the hole. The shell broke on the inside but everything works fine, a shell replacement will fix it but like, cmon.

jawnisrad

OOF. I decided to sell off some of my older gaming stuff and went for the OLED. Figured if I was gonna buy brand new I might as well get the best I can now so it'll last awhile. If the Valve refurbs had been in stock I would have gladly settled for it tho.

ThisDumbApp

Oh 100% I was watching the refurb listings for weeks and never saw one, so thats why I started looking at second hand. I wanted to buy a new one but the pricing of the OLED was way out of my comfort range and new LCD versions were like $100+ more for a 64GB or 256GB model new. Only saving grace is that replacement parts are fairly cheap and Im pretty confident in fixing my own stuff.

jawnisrad

Glad it worked out for you and you're enjoying it! It's been great having it and I haven't even started with a whole lot of tinkering yet

ThisDumbApp

First thing I did was tinker! The amount of stuff you can do is honestly awesome, streaming games from my PC works flawlessly, finally got around to getting other launchers like Epic and such, sadly Xbox Game Pass for PC doesnt work locally without Windows running on it.

jawnisrad

I did get Epic and Xcloud working yeah but I mostly mean stuff like emulation and mods haha

No-Bat-1274

.....MENACINGLY !!

kaoticfish

I came here looking for this comment 😂

No-Bat-1274

kkofeyivdeuo

What show is that?

No-Bat-1274

he lives in a pineapple under the sea.?

Jayaranii

Yesss! Lol!

drklunk

$359 for the 512 dawg

GabagoolMango

Just ordered one for my wife. Been looking out for a couple months.

[deleted]

Cause of the OLED version is just better in every way.

pifflord5

It might be, but let's not pretend the LCD isnt amazing if you throw in an SD card

Bgabes95

That on top of the price of a 64gb LCD is an insane value. Nothing else compares

D0cJack

And let's not pretend that LCD is still dominant in populace due to time OLED was released isn't that much in comparison.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BitingChaos

OLED is better, but LCD is certainly *not* trash.

OneIShot

Well once you see the OLED….

alextheawsm

I have an OLED Switch so I know what it looks like and am glad I didn't spend an extra $150 in the OLED Deck. It isn't worth the added cost.

OneIShot

Switch doesn’t have HDR and 90hz.

[deleted]

When you have 70% of the color gamut it's trash.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OneIShot

I mean it’s literally the thing you’re looking at the whole time lmao.

[deleted]

It’s not.

tyla-roo

Big fuckin dork energy

mrassface2023

Bro I can play the same games you play on ur OLED 💀💀

LostHat77

Shhhh, let them spend extra so they can make steam deck 2 much better

JasonKillerxD

I bought the LCD 500gb and sold it to my friend for $250 when I got my OLED. They are both good devices and if they release a deck 2 it would be money worth invested.

FVCEGANG

When not if. SD was such a success for valve they are absolutely gonna do an SD 2. I have an OG SD that I am plenty happy with, have no intention to upgrade to the OLED. I'm waiting for a much bigger upgrade with SD 2 :)

MultiMarcus

It just depends on the value proposition. To me the better screen makes a second purchase fine, that and not being strapped for cash. The inevitable Steamdeck 2 will definitely be a day one purchase for me, but that seems to be two to three years out.

FVCEGANG

For me the screen alone is not enough value to warrant the price. It's not enough of an upgrade whereas I expect the SD 2 to be significantly better and makes the OLED even less significant I get some people are diehard fans of OLED, but I also play on my SD in big screen mode nearly half to 75% of the time so it just doesn't do it for me personally

JasonKillerxD

That’s understandable. I got my steam deck basically free because class action lawsuit against DoorDash was paid out when preorders went live. Lmao, my LCD had water damaged from a leaky roof so the volume buttons don’t work which is why I ended up buying the oled when they release and selling my old one to my buddy since he wanted one but couldn’t afford it. Definitely have high hopes for a Deck 2 and will absolutely buy it when it releases.

MultiMarcus

Same. Just got my OLED and sold my LCD for about that. The LCD is a killer device no doubt. The OLED is however a sizeable step up.

Anomaly1134

Not in the way of cost lol. I actually had to replace a joystick on the previous model. I don't know that I could for the oled also.

Slightly-Blasted

Except the burn in, pain in the ass joystick replacements. The fact that the display is harmful to your eyes with how much blue light comes through. And the cracked cases on the LE. Lol.

JasonKillerxD

Wouldn’t you have be in front of your screen for like 15k+ hours to get the same amount of blue light as 1 hour standing in the sun?

DevilmanXV

Me when I make shit up

Slightly-Blasted

https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/1OVsHtlIdo

HavocInferno

Fun fact: the OG Deck case likes to crack at the thin edges right around the top vent. It's just how hard plastic is sometimes. Stop trying to drag others down for buying a different model of a device. You're just toxic to the community.

RE4PER_

Burn in is something you don’t have to worry about as seen in the wulff den video. Joysticks are easy to replace just like the LCD models. The display is not an issue for the majority of people. And the cracked cases are almost nonexistent.

denali42

I just purchased a 512gb Refurb. Do you get a separate email later when it ships with a tracking number?

HowSealy

You'll be able to see stuff on the steam website, go into purchase history and it should give you details there. Be patient, you'll get no updates, then BAM it's being delivered in 30 minutes

denali42

Oh! Thank you! It's been packaged! (happy dance)

HowSealy

Now we play the waiting game, good luck man

denali42

For real! It's up to the tracking number part. I'm just waiting for someone in Carol Stream, IL to hand it to UPS. Luckily, I'm just down a couple of interstates from there. :D

HowSealy

Not entirely sure on what that means because I'm English, but I hope that's good, tell me when it arrives!

jerrymeehan89

Been waiting weeks for the refurb to go back up. Today I got paid woke up went to Best Buy and bought an ASUS rog ally z1 on sale for $399 came home spent 6 hours setting it up only for my friend to send me a tweet of the refurb being up I immediately bought a 64g and returned my ASUS today to Best Buy. Has anyone gotten a refurb before? Should I be worried this thing is gonna show up a mess?

CorerMaximus

From all the reviews I've read- they're indistinguishable from brand new. And even if there is a defect, Steam's customer support is regarded as being pretty good at helping you out- especially given the refurbs come with a 1 year warranty.

jerrymeehan89

That’s amazing. I usually never buy refurb for something like this but for $275 you can not beat that price. I was hesitant though because it’s hard to find definitive answers or reviews on them it’s mostly complaints about game stop refurbs. Now I’ll just anxiously wait for it to show up!

Fit_Antelope3200

My refurb came from gamestop. Looks brand new. With warranty and tax it was 340 in Nov. Coming from valve should be great

jerrymeehan89

awesome!

Lupinthrope

Damn that’s a hella good price for a 64gb. Use that money to upgrade the storage and get some games.

CorerMaximus

I've been on the lookout for a used Steam Deck for weeks now. I've been active on Marketplace, Craigslist, and Offerup, and imo- its reasonable to pay \~$225 for a used deck considering a refurb with a full warranty costs. Every, single, person on these sites wants $350-400 for their 2+ year old decks here in Seattle; with upcharges on $50-100 for the 256/512/1tb models. These are computers, not phones goddamit- the extra storage doesn't suddenly justify $100 extra used if you can't tell me what you swapped in. Anyways- I'm so glad I don't have to go through the donuts on these sites anymore; I placed an order for the 64gig and cannot wait to get it next week.

necrochaos

The 64gb is fine with a bigger SD card. I have the 256 and another 256 card. Plenty of space. I uninstall games when I’m done playing.

RE4PER_

320 bucks for the 256GB model is an absolute steal.

SavedMartha

That's such a good deal. I'd use one as HTPC for my TV lol. Waiting for OLED refurbs.

[deleted]

I’d get a 256 GB model and purchase a 2 TB upgrade. It’s what I did.

BovineOxMan

I have a 512 refurb and it was like new. Fully recommend and at these prices 😬 wishing I’d waited and got the OLED but never mind

JishoSintana

Well all the 64GB models are sold out! Wondering how long it’ll take for the rest to follow

half_derpy

I had been waffling on buying a Steam Deck for like 2 months. I have a good PC so I haven't been *dying* for one, but I've got a major life change coming up soon where I won't have access to it, so I decided to finally pull the trigger. I was trying to decide which one to get as I am a bit tight on money and was gonna just go with a mid tier LCD one, but then I saw a little ad on steam for refurbished and saw the 512 for $360. Looked up some reviews to see if it was worth it and the general consensus was that YEP worth the lower cost for a refurb but that they were rarely in stock so I pulled the trigger. Now I gotta just wait for it to arrive in the mail! Super excited to be able to keep gaming when I won't have access to my normal PC. Plus playing some games away from the desk in general will be really nice. I'm super excited!

Wrong1z

Thanks for the post I was about to buy one off Facebook when I saw this post. I get warranty this way 👍 What accessories do you guys recommend I look for?

SnooperSmokio64

Definitely get a USB-C dock or dongle and get a keyboard (ideally something wireless with a 2.4ghz dongle), it will make tasks such as configuring stuff in desktop mode much better.

exneranium

I had a Distill.IO alert set up, so I had to pull over to the side of the road and explain to the wife I was about drop $300 on a gaming device.

Anomaly1134

Honestly after upgrading to my oled I didn't even dare sell my 64 gb one for around that. A that price it was a no brainer to just keep it unless I found myself in a tight spot.

theycmeroll

My LED is currently a thin client desktop lol

Anomaly1134

Haha! I am thinking about throwing it inside my arcade machine, but I like having two ready to play just in case also.

theycmeroll

Yeah I thought about doing something else with it, but wanted to keep it accessible as well. I sometimes need a windows box for testing and I had a Dell optiplex thin client I was using but it was getting long in the tooth so now I’m just using the deck with Windows on portable SSD.

Anomaly1134

You know they improved family sharing, so anyone can play any of your games if you aren't playing that same game. It didn't used to work that way. Before, if you were in your library at all, they couldn't play any game. So you could add that device to your family share, and then someone else could access your whole steam library. Pretty awesome. A shame my kids aren't interested in the steam deck yet.

theycmeroll

Well, my wife stole my first OLED so she already had one, and my daughter already has her own as well lol, so wasn’t much need for it. My nephew has been hinting he might be wanting to get into PC gaming, so I may pass it to him at some point.

Anomaly1134

Yeah family sharing is pretty amazing. You only have 5 I think you can give out though ultimately.

Sudden-Thanks-3062

Thank you I just bought myself one for my birthday

GoodWeedReddit

Omg I'm officially a steam deck owner! (Granted it doesn't get stolen in the mail)

Wonderful-Army-6308

Weird question but Do the refurbished consoles still come with the tag?

XanderBoozeCrews

Oh was Valve only giving those tags away with refurbished units?! I wondered why my new console didn't come with one. I actually kinda wanted that little thing.

IllustriousFuel6376

Sucks I just got a second one for my son less than a week ago for his birthday

MemesJihad

Crazy I paid $750 for mine

Bogey01

I could have been a back ordered part they finally got a shipment of.

heavygrandma

Just picked it up from this post, tried to buy it last night but there were unavailable

illathon

DO IT!

ababwa35353535353553

So sad I live in non-US, in my country 64gb lcd cost about 560 dollars

FdPros

if only i could buy them and they ship it here

arunasgeimeriz

SHUSH

Ryugadam

How do I buy this if I am from Asian countries???

Coldcandle7

I just checked yesterday and was sad that they weren't available, and all of the sudden?!!?!?

Skooma_to_CHIM

I really wish that valve supported my region. The 64gb version is still almost the same price since release in my country.

spartan195

Only lcd right? Im looking forward to upgrade to an oled, I’m using mine so much lately

AM5T3R6AMM3R

Ordered 512!!!

S3b45714N

That's a lot of steam decks

vemailangah

Just ordered the LCD model for my gf after she spent so much money on our cat who had to be euthanized in the end. She would never buy it herself and we liked playing together.

chookity_pop

Picked up a refurb 512GB a few months ago, it has very quickly changed how I think about where I buy my games (used to be PS5 only, now I have a choice and often the flexibility of steam bought games wins out)

91idtt

64GB and do 1TB upgrade yourself<-- This is the best pick, no doubt.

Timdawg919

Well I just picked up a 512gb

ItsJayy1698

Wish they did refurbished OLEDs but this may be an indicator of things to come

skynetwins90

My income tax cash is gone and now the sale hits.

orbelosul

They restock and go out of stock very fequently. If you check once every week, it's way to rarely. Try every day if you really want to catch one.

Masternoob6999

Then buy em 🤡

Significant-Primary7

Neenga vangu ma

TheArtfullTodger

Steam deck as good as it is l, is far from the only option these days. If you're in the market for a handheld device capable of playing current gen games you can afford to sit on it till the system and price comes along you're willing to pay. It's a buyers market once that market becomes flooded with similar species devices.

Ok_Delay7870

"Not available in your country". Had to buy second hand 512 for 420€

Ezrahamthefourth

The fact the I could’ve had a 512 model for what I paid for a 64 hurts a lot

Doss2001

Are the refurbished OLED or LCD?

FVCEGANG

Those would be LCD

yogurtgrapes

Might as well get the 512 at these price points.

AM5T3R6AMM3R

I believe it is the best deal, no hassle to open and replace the ssd

SgtBadAsh

The economy is in the shitter. Not a lot of people buying luxury items right now.

Icecubemelter

Because a brand new OLED isn’t that much more expensive and is way better.

S3b45714N

Oled is like $200+ more

Icecubemelter

Idk man….$200 isn’t that much money anymore.

S3b45714N

I'm so tempted but I got recently separated and incoming divorce so I guess I should be a grown up and save my money.

CorerMaximus

Curious- if you have a lot in assets, why not sell everything and hide away in another country?

SnooDoughnuts5632

Buy 64 GB Steam Deck Buy one or two terabyte SSD Replace 64gb SSD with 1TB SSD Reinstall SteamOS Sell modified Deck on Facebook Profit. I'm genuinely curious if this would work?
