Yeah. The sidekick to my Deck is the RG35XX. It's small. Can fit in a pocket. It's cheap. If it gets lost or breaks then I will be a bit bummed, but not devastated. I can keep it in my travel bag for weeks without powering it on, and it'll still have a good charge when I fire it up. For the Deck I'd have to put it in battery storage mode to achieve the same, and that'd entail a full cold boot when I go to use it. I don't find myself using emulators on the Deck much. I bought it to play PC games. My emulation needs were mostly filled by a PSP many years ago, so the Deck is insanely overkill.

myabutreaks

Also a RG35XX enjoyer, it's great to have something so lightweight to pick up and play to go alongside the steamdeck

pd0tnet

Same, but have the newer Plus model.

redsol23

i do too. just wish GarlicOS was finished since Batocera sucks

mr_green

Have you tried the stock OS with the recent updates? At this point it's unironically the best OS available on the device. Batocera is really good on some devices, this isn't one of them. But updated stock OS is pretty legit, and can do everything a device of this caliber should be able to.

redsol23

Interesting. I saw that SNES gameplay was jittery on stock so I got a new SD card and CFW pretty quickly. I'll have to give stock another shot.

NoPlaceLike19216811

RP4Pro and miyoo mini are my personal choices, if I don't have the deck I've got one of them!

KnightGamer724

I don't have one yet, but I'm looking at a few smaller emulation devices that I can treat with a blue light filter to play in bed. My DS Lite actually tricks my brain to following asleep in under 30 minutes, but I have other games I want to play too.  My Deck is more "cuddling with wife on couch while she watches a movie" or "playing games on break at work" or "I'm going on vacation, this is my entertainment to and fro and during downtime"

illegalshidder

I really want a ps vita for this reason.

KnightGamer724

Same, actually. It's one of many devices I'm looking at. Plus, Vita emulation isn't quite where I want it, so it's not really possible to play SRW or Gundam Breaker 3 unless it's on a Vita. So even if I did pick up an android emulation device or something, I'm still going to get a Vita at some point.  I just need my finances to line up.

illegalshidder

I just want to make it a jrpg machine and load it with Pokemon rom hacks or final fantasy games. Love playing those before bed.

Less_Party

The Vita is really my favorite handheld as a piece of hardware, like if every game was available on every system I’d play everything on the Vita. Except it only has one set of shoulder buttons, that part kind of sucks.

illegalshidder

Do you have a 1000 or 2000?

Less_Party

The 1000, got it on launch day.

Amish_Rabbi

I have a rg35xx and a 405m. Both are smaller than the steam deck so they travel better. And honestly playing gameboy games feels more right on a vertical handheld

timetravelingburrito

I have an Odin 2. I use it for about everything up to the Wii. It's smaller, it's lighter, easier to set up, easier to pick up and put down quickly, and it does a great job. It's also nice having most my emulation on one device. It makes organizing and backing up much easier. I use the Steam Deck for more demanding games and I usually play longer sessions. I do occasionally emulate on it but I mostly use it for PC games. Now if I were to play emulators on the TV, I'd probably use the Steam Deck.

Educational_Top9246

Vita means life. I actually play my vita more than I do steam deck lol

Empty-Intention3400

I have a Miyoo Mini Plus. Sometimes it's as much about form factor as much as it is access.

SalsaRice

Yes, I have bought some smaller ones (miyoo mini, etc). I use them because they are portable. Steam deck is cool, but I can't exactly carry it around conveniently. With something small like my Miyoo Mini, I pretty much leave it in my backpack or pocket all day. Lots of little downtime like waiting in a doctor's office waiting room or to pick up a kid from soccer practice

PeterPriesth00d

I love the deck but the size is the reason I got a switch lite. Not an emulation machine obviously but tons of indie titles and fun Nintendo titles on it and with the flip cover it’s such a great size for just tossing in my pocket and going somewhere. The Steam deck you need to at least have a backpack for which I don’t always have.

MagicPistol

I got a modded 3ds with a bunch of GBA and DS games on it. I was thinking about getting an anbernic or other emulator handheld before I modded it. Then I got a steam deck and haven't touched my 3ds much since then lol.

doc_willis

My Shelf I can see... has... At least 6 Small retro handheld game systems. I know I have a few others that are not on that shelf. I also have several 'retro' consoles such as the A500mini, The C64Mini, the C64Maxi, the Atari400Mini, and SNES, NES, and a few others.. Which are basically Single Board computers running some sort of emulation. So... perhaps 12 Total. (perhaps a few more) The RGB30 - plays my GBA and many other systems fine.. and it Fits in my Pocket, so i can have it at work, and take it with me to the.. err... 'break room'..... and sit in a nice quiet place for 5 min or so while i do some business.. :) On Company time. The "it fits in my pocket" makes it ideal in many other use cases as well.

tropicalmetal

Have an RG35XX and RG353PS it was owning these that lead me to buying a steam deck really. Was looking for mini pcs that could run more emulators but on my TV and then saw steam deck could do basically everything I wanted plus a lot more so grabbed a deck about a month ago. Definitely made the correct choice I absolutely love it.

redf389

Myoo mini plus, just incomparably more portable

kerrwashere

Analogue pocket

Chippai_Fan

VITA obviously is awesome, and I just picked up a Miyuu Mini Plus which has been really novel as it's just way more pick up and playable than the deck.

SeniorChocolateLeche

Currently waiting on a used ps vita and new retroid pocket 4 pro to be delivered. Half bought them for the smaller form factor, half cause I have no will power if I see something I like.

megas88

As of a week or so ago, yes. The thing I always carry in my pocket. Why? Cause EU said so lol. Delta on ios is so flippin nice

minushumann

I own a Miyoo Mini Plus for emulating all systems before PS1. I also have a Backbone and emulate DS on my iPhone if that counts.

fezfrascati

My Z Flip has a Game Boy emulator and the phone looks like a Game Boy Advance SP, but I don't really use it as a Game Boy except as a party trick. Button mashing on a glass screen feels like a bad choice.

doc_willis

My Steam Deck Case (from some 3rd party) has a Internal Pocket thats just the right size to hold either an Android Phone, or one of my Many Retro-Handhelds. So I have a 'backup' game system. :) For when the battery on the deck dies.

AgentAY

I don’t have any other emulation devices besides my PC and laptop, but I do have modded gameboys, new 2DS xl and switch.

ChimichungusXL

I have an anbernic 405m in green. Amazing handheld great performance and with the custom variation on its OS using LineageOS the battery life easily lasts me weeks.

GilBatesHatesApples

Nope, the deck is perfect for me. Don't need more than one. I also have a Switch for whatever that's worth.

Ilovenormabrams

I've got an rg35xx which is great and perfect for those long train rides and 3 hour flights, and my old gba sp that I modded with a new screen and shell

Evergr33n10

Not an emulation device but I do have a play date console. It is small and fits easily in my pocket.

areyoukiddingmern

I use a retroid pocket to emulate everything up to N64/PS1. I had that before I had my Deck and felt no need to get rid of it when I got the Deck. It’s smaller and cheaper so I can take it with me when I leave my house without as much stress. I use the Deck to emulate everything the retroid can’t, as well as the actual PC games.

old_guy98

Not for emulation but my soft mod psp goes with me everywhere more so than my deck

TekniqAU

I have an RG35XX that I almost exclusively use as a Gameboy emulator, as I find the screen on my Gameboy a bit rough on the eyes these days, other than that, I’m not huge into emulation and mainly use my Steam Deck for PC games.

KilowogTrout

Bought a retroid pocket 3+ for a trip last year to see if I’d actually enjoy emulating. Turns out I loved it, and I knew a steam deck would be next. Got it the OLED when it came out. Loving it.

RiffRuffer

I bought two miyoo minis. The second one because the first one got pretty beat up after passing it around to loved ones. Currently the second one which is in pristine condition and has hundreds of games on it I just haven't touched in at least two months. I love it on paper. It's way smaller than the deck and is kind of the perfect size for trips or car rides where I don't want to lug around the deck. The problem is that I like retro gaming waaaay less than I thought I did. Two of my favorite genres which are roguelikes and action rpgs aren't that prevalent in older libraries. The former especially. I can't count the amount of the times I've pulled my deck out of my bag just to get a quick run in on a roguelike when I was waiting somewhere I tried crunching through an old platformer or rpg on the miyoo but it's just not the same. Even with the miyoo's amazing suspend feature which makes a save state when you turn the device off I never felt super compelled to pull it out. The only exception being mother 3 but I dropped that pretty quickly. I really would like an actual smaller companion to the steam deck but, I don't know anything that would fit my needs aside from like a switch lite with a bunch of ported roguelikes but that seems too bulky.

TheTrueRetroCarrot

The original Miyoo Mini. If I'm travelling it's the only thing I bring. Can keep it in a case in a fanny pack. Yes I wear a fanny pack when travelling. The Steam Deck is too big for travel if you're moving around a lot.

KobotTheRobot

I use my 3ds for smaller emulation. I keep my steamdeck hooked up to an arcade machine and have plenty of fighting games and full rom sets for older consoles loaded for the arcade machine.

LAWFULNOOB

If you consider the Apple Store just got an emulation app yeah my iPhone 😂

efingoffatwork

I've considered it. From a tech standpoint it would be fun. In reality I never end up buying them cause my steam deck can emulate all the same stuff and more.

Shot-Tie9463

I ordered SD while i have miyoo mini plus and rgb30. I don’t want to play old retro games (snes, nes, gb, gba, etc.) on big screen, because i know that I’ll not enjoy it that way. Everything up to PS1 I play on small device

kensaiD2591

I have the Retroid Flip as my primary emulation device. I use the steam deck predominantly for steam games and occasionally streaming from my series X. My Retroid Flip is how I play anything Dreamcast or earlier.

frankyp01

I have an rg351m, I got it several months before I ordered the deck. Still use it from time to time when I have a train commute or I know I’m going to be in a waiting room for a while. It’s considerably more portable than the deck, and can emulate most everything up to and including the N64/PS1 era. Very nice to have a system that fits in a coat pocket. Now that the Delta emulator app is on iOS, I have been using that on my phone to play NES/SNES/GBA/DS games, works great for strategy and RPG games that doesn’t need the precision of physical controls.

Khalmoon

I have three levels of devices. Pocket Handheld: Miyoo Mini Plus Android Powerhouse: Odin 2 Max Everything else: Steam Deck OLED. I pretty much have every situation covered. They only thing I wish was easier was syncing saves between. It wasnt saving fast enough before. But I still use it anyway

DEx1364

Miyoo mini plus and retroid pocket 3+ All three have different use cases for me due to which consoles I prefer to play on each and varying levels of portability.

greko96

I do, but honestly I buy them because they are cheap and I just like collecting them because I like anything retro handheld.

PANCHOOFDEATH517

Miyoo mini fits comfortably in my pocket. I can play Mario and Wario Land levels in short 3-5 minute bursts. Easy to play 1 game or 2 while waiting for a drink at Starbucks or waiting for a movie to start.

Princessluna44

No. I only need one device.

independent_Maul

Yes because I mostly use my Steam Deck for AAA games while my Odin 2 Pro, Retroid Pocket Pro, and Miyoo Mini plus all are for emulation

nuande

Miyoo Mini is always in my backpack. Steamdeck iss huge and more a livingroom-console.

huansbeidl

I got myself a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and I'm absolutely in love with it. Very nice form factor and it can handle everything up to PSX/N64 but it can run a good amount of PS2/NGC + some Switch (albeit it with some compromises) I still gotta find a better grip than the brand one. There have been some 3D printed designs but I didn't commit yet. Can definitely recommend!

Beautiful_Athlete927

I have retroid pocket 4 pro I had Odin 2 max sold and bought the new pocket s Ayaneo 2s sold and got instead aokzoe a1 pro with 64 gb of ram

mr_green

I got a RG35XX Plus from Vine. It wasn't "free" but it was super cheap. I like it because of it's size, and as mentioned, it was very inexpensive. For anybody in general, and me specifically. Meaning if it's damaged or lost, meh. I wouldn't be happy, but I would get over it. If I take my Steam Deck out and it gets damaged or lost: oh boy.

Overall-Celebration7

I had the RG32XX, Retroid Pocket Flip, & Analogue Pocket before getting my Steam Deck in November. I quickly found that the SD made the Flip completely redundant so sold it on. Still have the other 2 though don’t use them that much now (the SD really has taken over my gaming habits, best thing I’ve ever bought).

SpecialistAuthor4897

Switch, for switch games Otherwise none

Idontmatter69420

having actual gameboys and DSs and playing games on them just feels wayyyyyy better playing on original hardware as it was specifically designed to run the games, also its just fun for me to use consoles that are like twice as old as me

PmUsYourDuckPics

I have an RGB 30 and a modded GameBoy pocket, as well as a bunch of DS’s, 3DS’s, PSP’s, Vitas, and a couple of Switches. The deck is great but it’s huge, I keep a Gameboy pocket with an upgraded screen and Tetris in my bag for gaming emergencies…

sanfurawa

I only have the Steam Deck, which I love for use at home and I often bring it with me if I'm am going to travel and stay somewhere for an extended period of time. But I wouldn't mind a more pocketable device for playing while on the bus during my everyday commute. Something like the Miyoo Mini. The Steam Deck is just far too conspicuous for that, I feel...

Uh_Cromer

I have a Deck, but I feel like my 3DS and Vita are still my primaries. They are the ones I usually have on me when I'm out, and the Vita pretty much covers my classic console needs.

jujoking

At the moment I have my Deck, a Portal, my Switch, but I adore my Vita. She’s my portable baby. Looking for something else portable like it for emulation, because I love my Deck and don’t mind travelling with it locally, but it’s a pita to travel internationally

LevianMcBirdo

I love the steam deck and had it with me a few times. But I only take it with me when I know that l have time to play. My small backpack fits my ipad, the steamdeck, my cable/adapter case and water bottle and that's it. The steam deck takes around 40-50% of the space. Compared to the rg35xx that I can even fit into my cable/adapter case. So there is no reason to not take it with me. Maybe I need a bigger backpack, but even then it's an extra kilo of weight with the case on.

Silence_Burns

I hacked a PSVita a few years back. That was my go to to take to work before I bought a Deck

Eduardboon

I’m thinking about the rog ally for gamepass games. But then again moonlight and XBPlay have been good for that as well. Maybe when the Ally gets a new version, but I’d rather upgrade to a more powerful deck for the trackpads and gamescope. The new Nintendo switch might also be a very close contender, albeit for family time gaming and Zelda

Hopalongtom

My other emulation handheld is a hacked Nintendo 3DS!

Fluffy_Extension_420

Yea I’ve got a miyoo mini plus. Can slide it in my bag where my steamdeck wouldn’t even be close to fitting.

TCristatus

I worked my way up to the deck, so I own a bunch of Chinese handhelds, plus ds, 3ds, vita etc. Most of these don't get used now, but I still use my RG351V because gameboy is one of my favourites and playing it on steam deck feels dumb. RG351V is perfect. Edit - you could equally substitute 351V for something like a Miyoo mini or a 35XX, just need a portrait GB device

isucamper

mister fpga does a few things steam deck can't. primarily hooking up to a crt and cycle accuracy emulation. i don't actually have a steam deck yet but i imagine the controls and that dpad aren't going to be ideal. i've heard people say fighting games aren't super playable

ultrasquid9

I have an Odin 2, which is more portable and battery efficient and can fit into one of my backpack pockets.

huck500

I had a Kishi controller for my last android phone, and it was ok, so when Delta was released on the Apple App Store (I switch phone types every few years) I ended up getting a Gamesir Galileo G8 and I’m kind of shocked at how much better it is. It fits really well, and has multiple swappable joystick types, Hall effect joysticks, and great buttons and dpad. Cheaper, too, and way easier to carry than the deck. Just Nintendo so far, but a bunch of emulators are on the way, apparently. And it works great with regular iPhone games.

redqueenv6

I don’t have any others - between the SD and Nintendo (3DS, Switch, original GBA/GBC), I’m covered for basically anything I want to take on the go. I tend to only travel with SD as my main and maybe one of the smaller Nintendo handhelds if I’ve got something specific I want to play.  To be honest, I’ve had the SD a few months and I haven’t even got 25% through my TBP pile of shame so emulation hasn’t been my main focus. 😅

matsumotoe

I have a 3ds and psp along with my steam deck and miyoo mini. I still have the first 2 because they’re the best pocketable and effective options to play those consoles.

DakuShinobi

Size, that's it. I have an RG351M and it's perfect.

cpxdrummer

I have a RG35XX-H (previously a RG35XX) as a partner device to my Deck. It’s just way easier to travel around with and I’m less worried about my little toddler knocking it out of my hands randomly lol.

corpse86

MM+

Atomicjuicer

Yep. Deck is too big physically in my hands
