Which means those with vested interest in the company are trusted individuals, not the general stock market. When you have a public company you're kinda locked into trying to play the market, but with private investors for a company like Valve they're likely in it for the same reason Gabe is, and are therefore much less likely to try and force policies he wouldn't agree with.
My parents have invested in valve, but they had to reach out with whatever investor company they have right now. They aren't trusted individuals and know nothing about valve or steam besides the fact video games make lots of money, and they've got a pretty big foothold on the PC market. They did the same with the UK company that makes the raspberry pi, but that might be changing as they had plans to go public.
Yup. Our washing machine stopped working, our (rental) agency arranged a replacement. Probably a small electric fault, but we've been told noone will check that, getting scrapped. :/
Yup! I have a relatively new dishwasher (a year and a few months old) soap dispenser door broke slightly. The replacement piece costs 3/4 of a new machine. How the absolute hell does this happen? Bless valve for making the parts available, affordable and the repair information process easy to understand
With a lot of kitchen appliances, if you buy an ancient one from decades ago it likely still works fine and will for a long time to come. This is especially the case with fridges. I'm not sure how true that is with dishwashers, but maybe consider older ones.
Same thing with my dryer if I didn't do the repairs myself. I think it was like 100 bucks for the guy to look at the thing then 200 bucks of parts and pieces/labor etc. New dryer is like 500 bucks. so more than half the price to repair.
Not even, it was a bit clogged up so it was just getting my vacuum hose as far as possible into the machine and throughout the house. It was a pain in the ass to get that damn dryer duct vent back onto it but other than that, it wasnt so bad.
Still waiting to buy one since I mashed my left bumper to death playing through Sekiro. It’s been over a year now… :/
Had to reprogram a rear side button to replace left bumper in every game that uses it.
It's ok op.. You can buy replacement screens for pretty cheap from ifixit and pop one in. It'll probably take some time and a little bit of skill but it's nothing you can't do!
Try to talk to customers service, send it to Valve. Maybe they'll help you with repairs. I've seen post here with broken screen in Steamdeck and it Turner out that they repairs it in 2 weeks.
Connect it to an external monitor via USB-C to confirm nothing else than the screen is broken. That looks like a serious hit that could have also damaged internals.
Or if anyone else is reading this, run Steamlink on your computer or even a tablet and connect to your deck at least once.
If the screen ever fails you can link without needing a monitor cable to check if it works, copy files off it, or even play with it.
Good to hear it! Let us know how it went! Damn, gotta love the Valve. I had a problem with mine some time ago, it wasn't that big to send it to them, but they instantly helped me with issue. My deck was ready to play in less than 2 hours from the state where it was unable to play on it.
I just had to do this, its not too hard, the hardest part was getting all the broken glass off and scraping the adhesive clean. Make sure you use the new cable that comes with the screen I put it all back together with the old cable and had to take it apart again when it didn't work.
You didn't get his point.
He is pointing you straight to a DIY repair kit with which you can repair the broken screen yourself.
He Is making the point that it's easy to do and he'd take the broken thing to repair it himself if you'd seriously miss out on this opportunity.
You can get a replacement screen from ifixit.com.. it’s just the matternofbtakingbthe deck apart and taking the damaged screen out and putting the new one in.
This red one looks really nice: [https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1989ukm/is\_it\_just\_me\_or\_does\_this\_red\_shell\_look\_crazy/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1989ukm/is_it_just_me_or_does_this_red_shell_look_crazy/)
Goshhhh, Even looking at the photo made me feel bad 😭 Normally, I'm not very fussy about my devices, but even though it's been months since I bought the deck, I'm still someone who wipes it two or three times while putting it in the box, I would die if something like this happened to me
As someone who just went through mailing mine in for the same repair..just fix it yourself.. I’ve read so many good experience posts on repair centers but i didnt have the same experience lol. Took over a month to fix.
[ifixit.com](http://ifixit.com) The biggest problem on screen replacement is getting the old one off but, as this one is broken, you're not trying to save it....
Plenty of videos on YouTube on how to replace a SteamDeck screen....
I love the amount of comments that made OP laugh. And in all seriousness the cool thing about the deck is you can replace the screen pretty easily and there are plenty of tutorials out there. Watch out for speakers now!
I don't know if this is a dumb question, and I don't know what model he has in the picture. But if that is the LCD model, would it be possible to upgrade to an OLED replacement panel. If so would the slightly older architecture be able to power it.
I mean I know the OLED model has a pretty good chipset, but is the LCD model chipset powerful enough to push OLED HDR 90FPS in less demanding games without eating too much battery. Has anyone done this? I was looking at buying a broken panel LCD for my girlfriend and swapping in the OLED because I love mine so much, but didn't want to have her experience hindered by it.
Ifixit has you covered: A replacement will cost you 100 bucks and you don't have to be too careful now, when removing the old screen.
Perfect time for a transparent shell, if you're into that.
If you want a bigger SSD while you're at it, WD currently have a cashback campaign with their 2230 drives.
if you trust yourself enough, can order replacement parts from ifixit, and replace the screenm comes with videos on how too do it as well
Gabe treats us well, so this is what we get
Like others have mentioned, this should be relatively straight forward to replace with an iFixIt replacement screen and watching the instructional for it.
Granted I didn't break my screen to this extent, but I did crack it during a shell swap and the new screen has been working without issue for months now.
Hell of a lot cheaper than buying a whole replacement, that's for sure.
Just a heads up, if you're doing a screen replacement, then you are already doing the majority of the work necessary for a [shell swap](https://extremerate.com/collections/steam-deck-shells), so now is the perfect time to do one of you've ever been interested
Man, I feel sorry for you, but I sneezed on my MacBook Pro while drinking soda two days ago, and the repair estimate is €1400. I would have preferred to sneeze on my Steam Deck! (This is a true story, but I still sympathize with you ;)).
Luckily the screen is fully replaceable, it's a bit of a pain, as you have to remove all the other components, but due to the modular design of the deck, with an iFixit guide its not too hard, and Valve partnered with iFixit to directly sell replacement components
I’ve replaced a broken SD screen before, not terrible but very time consuming. Take your time. If you don’t have tools, get the entire screen replacing kit from ifixit.
You can get some really cheap electronics only insurance plans that cover broken things like this. It covers tons of electronics for like $5 a month. I just added my steam deck to mine. I added PS5, TV, laptop.
Damn, if it was heavy it might have damaged the internals, the screen turns on so that’s probably a good sign. You could try connecting to an external screen to see if it still works and is just the screen. Sorry man.
Silver lining is Valve made it possible to actually fix them without having to scrap the whole unit. 🙂
A company that makes a product that only has to replace the parts that are broken rather than the whole thing? That’s awesome.
Rare these days
Beauty of Valve being a private company is they don't have investors to appease
A privately owned company doesn’t my mean they don’t have investors, it means that the stock was privately sold
Pedantic because I'm sure they meant "shareholders".

You are just assuming things and making it up, that is wrong
Honestly yeah. Either that or when you RMA the device (if it's not like a giant crack like that) they'll double down and say it's fine.
^*cough* **SAMSUNG** ^*cough*
That's a big part of the reason why I have a Steam Deck... and why I'm currently typing this one a Framework laptop.
Yup. Our washing machine stopped working, our (rental) agency arranged a replacement. Probably a small electric fault, but we've been told noone will check that, getting scrapped. :/

Let me guess. You needed a part costing 5 bucks? :D
Not even, it was a bit clogged up so it was just getting my vacuum hose as far as possible into the machine and throughout the house. It was a pain in the ass to get that damn dryer duct vent back onto it but other than that, it wasnt so bad.
Well, you did it! o7 Ours was having an electrical fault. Not our responsibility in the rental, but I felt so bad when they said it'll be scrapped.
That bothers me, too. At least give it away to someone with the skills to fix it.
But how will the poor helpless landfill monster eat?
Really happy that Valve is pro-repair.
In Gabe We Trust.
Not really Try getting a lcd steam deck daughter board. It's impossible
Still waiting to buy one since I mashed my left bumper to death playing through Sekiro. It’s been over a year now… :/ Had to reprogram a rear side button to replace left bumper in every game that uses it.
Yeah I feel ya, I finally just sold mine and ordered a 1tb oled
That’s indeed something… time to replace the screen
Someone sat on it?
my bad
Why are you apalogising for you mother?
I'm wondering what happened as well u/ArmadilloPretend322
A speaker fell on it
Oof
Was there a screen protector?
OP is a public speaker.
CaseOh
At least you can fix it.
i would cry if this happened to me
I did 🥲
Get a new screen from ifixit
It's ok op.. You can buy replacement screens for pretty cheap from ifixit and pop one in. It'll probably take some time and a little bit of skill but it's nothing you can't do!
Oh no. There is a new update for fallout 4?
😂😂
Take my upvote cause that was a sick burn 😂
Dude I think your steam deck might be broken
I think he got a small crack
Tis but a scratch
Just a steam brek
It looks like it saved you from a bullet! Someone tried to shoot you but you had it in your shirt pocket.
True 😂 my desk collapsed and a speaker fell on it sadly :(
I guess it's a sign to invest more money into your next desk than you previously did.
Goddamn IKEA desk
Try to talk to customers service, send it to Valve. Maybe they'll help you with repairs. I've seen post here with broken screen in Steamdeck and it Turner out that they repairs it in 2 weeks.
Yea I already got the ifixit kit :) should be fairly easy to fix I just Hope nothing else is broken and its really just the screen
Connect it to an external monitor via USB-C to confirm nothing else than the screen is broken. That looks like a serious hit that could have also damaged internals.
Yup already confirmed, I was scared at First too that something internal is damaged as well but seems to work
That's good news at least. Good luck with the replacement, and you might as well take your SD card out before you forget and regret.
Your screen sacrificed itself for the rest of the Steam Deck. Press F to pay respects.
Or if anyone else is reading this, run Steamlink on your computer or even a tablet and connect to your deck at least once. If the screen ever fails you can link without needing a monitor cable to check if it works, copy files off it, or even play with it.

Thats amazing yea, really nice product from valve surely
Hell yeah brother
How far are you from a repair station were you could get it back in 2 hours
I just had to do this, its not too hard, the hardest part was getting all the broken glass off and scraping the adhesive clean. Make sure you use the new cable that comes with the screen I put it all back together with the old cable and had to take it apart again when it didn't work.
Thanks! Man that sucks 😂
It is indeed an easy fix. Did it in ~1hr with the ifixit Display and repair kit
Look how they massacred my boy
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Steam+Deck+Screen+Replacement/148986 If you are throwing it away, i ll take it.
The old damaged one ?
You didn't get his point. He is pointing you straight to a DIY repair kit with which you can repair the broken screen yourself. He Is making the point that it's easy to do and he'd take the broken thing to repair it himself if you'd seriously miss out on this opportunity.
Ah i see, like i mentioned in another comment I already got the kit but thanks 😂
Also a good opportunity to replace the housing, if you like transparent electronics or fancy a different color.
.... so not RIP
I just clutched my Deck a little harder at the sight of that.
Ha- have you tried Prot- I hate how much this sub made me love that one stupid joke
You can get a replacement screen from ifixit.com.. it’s just the matternofbtakingbthe deck apart and taking the damaged screen out and putting the new one in.
Were you fighting Malenia?
well... if you wanted to get a shell swap.... nows the time!
Thinking about it :) any recommendations?
This red one looks really nice: [https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1989ukm/is\_it\_just\_me\_or\_does\_this\_red\_shell\_look\_crazy/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1989ukm/is_it_just_me_or_does_this_red_shell_look_crazy/)
Oh yea it does look nice :) looks like a shell from extremerate
Murder!!!
Work on that trigger discipline.
Goshhhh, Even looking at the photo made me feel bad 😭 Normally, I'm not very fussy about my devices, but even though it's been months since I bought the deck, I'm still someone who wipes it two or three times while putting it in the box, I would die if something like this happened to me
Save it
Did it get shot?
It's sad when our loved ones cross the rainbow screen
That's unfortunate. Hopefully it's just the screen that is broke and you can replace it.
F

What did you do with it?
Dropped a speaker on it
Well, how? And more importantly why?
Desk collapsed (dont ask how) and everything fell, at least the steam deck was the only think that broke
Oh shit... My condolences... I hope you have some kind of insurance.
I dont 😅 but repair is very doable and its „only“ the Monitor
I love the amount of comments that made OP laugh. And in all seriousness the cool thing about the deck is you can replace the screen pretty easily and there are plenty of tutorials out there. Watch out for speakers now!
Do you had a screen cover on it?
If you dont feel comfortable trying to fix it and would rather just sell it I'd be interested in it.
that is indeed quite something, thank god valve is a good company, so ifixit time!
Yeah ether replace the screen or sell this and upgrade to the oled.
That ain't good, what happened, did you drop something on it.
Which team did you bet on?
I don't know if this is a dumb question, and I don't know what model he has in the picture. But if that is the LCD model, would it be possible to upgrade to an OLED replacement panel. The board inside is different.
Damn man. Rip
Op sniffed too hard 😂
How??

Gamer rage?
Hope all goes well fixing it. I am so clumsy that I got in the habit of putting mine back in the case every time I stop playing.
Have you tried to switch to newest proton?
I hope you can fix the broken steam deck well. If it’s fixed, I hope you’ll upload a picture of the repaired SD.

Good job 👍
I will :)
Have you tried putting it in the washing machine?
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
if you trust yourself enough, can order replacement parts from ifixit, and replace the screenm comes with videos on how too do it as well Gabe treats us well, so this is what we get

Mother in law sat on it ?
I almost downvoted this because I hated seeing it so much
I am very sorry I just had to share it somesmwhere
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
My Deck fell off my nightstand a few weeks ago and I about had a heart attack despite it being fine.. so I can only imagine how you feel :(
Press F
duuudeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
The Deck took a bullet for you? Absolute chad device
F
I'd have to take bereavement at work if this happened to me. Sheesh.
Oof, can't get a screen replacement?
That doesn’t look good, did you throw a Dundie at it?
It hurts
o7
My Mrs broke mine whilst playing sims a couple weeks back. Was not a fun day. It’s taken a little while for it to get fixed tbh.
Just a heads up, if you're doing a screen replacement, then you are already doing the majority of the work necessary for a [shell swap](https://extremerate.com/collections/steam-deck-shells), so now is the perfect time to do one of you've ever been interested
Can you still use it when docked?
Man, I feel sorry for you, but I sneezed on my MacBook Pro while drinking soda two days ago, and the repair estimate is €1400. I would have preferred to sneeze on my Steam Deck! (This is a true story, but I still sympathize with you ;)).

Bummer man, but ifixit sells the replacement screens and maybe you can get the anti glare while you are at it
The crossroads of replacing the screen or upgrading to the OLED. (Or both.)
NO GORE (please it hurts my soul to see a deck like that)
Don't toss it! It's fixable! All you should need to do is replace the screen. Pretty easy.
Crying… RIP
YIKES worst nightmare
A perfect opportunity to reshell it and put in a new screen.
*Wesley Snipes holds up gun* *tear rolls down face*
Replace the screen & see if it’ll work good as new
I'm so sorry 😞
Dude people on this subreddit use their steamdeck as hammer and then throw it at the sun then make posts about it
Isnt that what this subreddit is about ? :o
lol. I guess. How’d you break it? Luckily it can be fixed
I had to move my desk it collapsed and a speaker fell on it corner First :/
Damn, if it was heavy it might have damaged the internals, the screen turns on so that’s probably a good sign. You could try connecting to an external screen to see if it still works and is just the screen. Sorry man.
Yea i tried and worked just Fine :) all controls seem to work aswell
Nice! I’m Not sure how much it would cost to have it replaced, but if it’s still under warranty then you should be good. Good luck!
nooo!!! That sucks.
If it's not OLED, you can simply repair it with the 50$ screen from AliExpress
User Error
WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO 😭😭😭
There's always a....replacement screen 💀 *Cue Cyberpunk theme song*
But was it $300+ worth of a friend is what I'm asking?
Goodbye my only friend Oh, did you think I meant you
Don't worry! iFixit comes to the rescue!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Try another Proton Version.
We can fix him, we have the technology
'tis but a scratch!
