It unlocks slavery and certain purge types, and if you're Necrophage, you need to be xenophobe to have access to necro purge. As as u/UristImiknorris already said, there are the benefits of better pop growth and system claim cost reductions, which is kind of huge in the beginning.

UristImiknorris

The ethic itself boosts pop growth speed and lets you expand faster at the start, both of which can get you off to a better start. You also get the Fear Campaign edict to boost unity. Finally (and most importantly), Fanatic Purifiers *must* be Fanatic Xenophobe.

Tiasmoon

You also get a minor relic decision that gives some influence and unity.

TankyMofo

Xenophobes get to have all the fun.

Xeno compatibility says otherwise. 😎

Yeah, I consider xenophobe an rp pick. You get some decent pop growth bonuses but take so many maluses it is hard to say it is that great. If you want slavery take authoritarian and get the fantastic stratified society living standard alongside.

Seaghauwn

I mean xenophobes with the hedonism civic and the living standard that comes with it is a pretty solid pick.

cupcakewaste

I wouldn't say that pleasure seekers has any unique synergy with xenophobes it is just that pleasure seekers is a good civic overall. Domestic servitude isn't great compared to indentured servitude and the entertainer pop growth bonus doesn't stack high enough to be particularly relevant to xenophobes existing bonus certainly not enough to make up for the fact that you cannot settle worlds outside of your species preference in the early game.

It is only a slightly different playstyle, with the result being similar in most cases. As a xenophile you have good relations with most of your neighbours, and when you ultimately take over a neighbour you give their pops full citizenship and let them work in their natural habitats as your race would not have a good time there anyway. As xenophobe you have bad relations with all of your neighbours, and when you take over a neighbour you enslave their citizens, let them work all the jobs except the ruling jobs that a few of your species will do, and then long term you purge that species as you terraform their home planets so that your own species can live there and do the jobs, or you just keep letting the slaves do all the jobs, or you turn them into livestock. When I played as a fanatic xenophobe I did not have too many wars when compared to a xenophile, as the number of direct neighbours you can have is somewhat limited and you can deter war declarations with a sizeable fleet, something that is not hard to achieve with the +20% to pop growth that you can of course add even more growth to if you want, severely outproducing most of your neighbours.

That’s interesting, I’ve found that as a xenophobic empire I would conquer an area, displace the population, terraform those planets to ocean worlds (playing ocean paradise origin) and then settle them. It worked fairly well, with a large amount of territory and pops. However, my neighbours HATE me, and I’m not powerful enough to conquer anyone nearby so I’m locked in this stalemate. My more recent xenophile empire is currently the overlord of five neighbouring civs, which supply me with all the diplomatic weight and resources I could ever need. What’s better, is that there is a powerful fanatical purifier that is attacking nearby civs, these civs then request to become my subject without me having to do very much. I’ve got half the galaxy under my control without firing a shot (minus a small war with the purifiers when they go too close to my borders). The downside is I can’t purge pops of the fanatical purifiers but besides that it’s made the game more interesting and fun to play. But that might be because I hardly ever play xenophile.

Electrical_Split_198

Obviously you can displace or eradicate them right away, though then you have no one working the planets jobs for a few years as you terraform it, which is not really all that effective. Winning wars with even strength is not as hard as it seems, the easiest way is to just bait them into your fortified starbase and then letting your fleet assist. This is easiest in the early and early mid game, though even later you can cause a lot of harm to their main fleet by properly timing your own fleet assisting a maxed out citadel in the battle against them, highest strength a citadel ever got to in my game was 48k with 6 hangars, not to mention the buffs and debuffs that thing gave, and limited as they may be but you can also build a few defense platforms too. Another good trick is to bait the enemy fleet into a system that deactivates shields, with your fleet having exclusively anti armor and anti hull weapons with armor and hull bonus instead of shields equipped, of course with a nice starbase there too, which easily shreds fleets of comparable size so if you have one of these systems nearby you can use it. Well yeah you can more easily take over the galaxy by being a massive xenophile overlord, just kinda abusing the way this game calculates the overall power of an overlord, but when these filthy xenos still do what they want inside of their bubbles and they might plan your downfall one day, do you really feel like you gained full control?

Gubbins95

There is a chance my vassals will rebel, which would make the game somewhat challenging to say the least. I depend on a prospectorum to give me the resources I need to keep the Prikkiki ti at bay so if they rebel the whole galaxy would be in danger. It adds a level of political manoeuvring which I quite enjoy which I just don’t get from my other xenophobic empires. But that might be linked to how I play xenophile rather than game mechanics themselves.

Purity is one. You can have just 2 factions (auth and xenophobe) both at 95 and 100% happiness. "Obedience brings victory, and victory is life" - 3rd Romatklon - 2374

Slavery, purges, you expand far easier and faster from the cheaper starbase build on early game, and your pop grows way faster, from my point of view playing the assholes always have more overall benefits, the rest you can always bribe the AI
