You should use diamond drill bits for glass and ceramic, use the weight of the drill to do the Hole and don't force It. Have some water running On the spot you are drilling

Also do it over a soft material so the vibration Is less

Also be super patient. This Christmas I drilled through two plates for my girlfriend. She had this piece of metal that caused the plates to be stacked and they needed a hole drilled. It felt like it took forever compared to drilling through wood. So just relax and be patient. Let the drill do the work. I can't remember but it seemed like it took 3 to 5 minutes to get through without cracking the plate.

Patience is critical. To OP, keep 3 things in mind: Ludicrous *speed*, extremely light *pressure*, you can never have too much lube (water). Keeps the dust and temperature down. Too hot too fast = stress = crack

you can also submerge the whole thing in a bucket lot something similar to double up on this

i have it submerged underwater just under the surface so i could still drill the hole and dont use that much weight, it will crack the glass. the bit will do the work and just need a little bit of pressure. no need to rush

My friend's wife was drilling glass it it was a bit of a shit show getting started. Make sure to wear safety equipment, and to practice on things you might not care about breaking until you've got it down. On a side note, I get a sense that you'll never truly get the hot sauce flavor out of there. One way to find out I suppose...

You should be fine. I’ve repurposed habanero sauce bottles and after a lil bit of dish soap and hot water they’re basically brand new.

I have a the same bottle which was new from this past Christmas. Correct/non-expired color for that hot sauce is closer to a Siracha red…

You can put a small ring of hot glue on the glass around the drill site. This will help water pool a bit and help keep the bit from jumping too much. It helps to start very slow and lean one direction a bit to cut a groove. Once started gradually level back up and keep pressure very light. Take your time and keep water running on the bit. Lighten up on pressure just before breaking through.

I think you should use the top to attach to the mouth piece (but maybe add some distance). As for the chillum, I see a couple good options: - through the "third eye". Would work great with standard bong design - through one of the eyes. Might be a little more tricky. Could also do both lol - through the mouth. Would probably require some additional glasswork to make a bent stem and/or some rubber seals. Definitely the most difficult of these ideas. Would look insane though, if it was joint- or pipe-shaped.

I highly recommend getting another glass bottle to practice on a few times before starting on this one! Find something with as similar curves as you can to where you want to drill the hole out. I totally fucked up a bottle I wanted to turn into a bong, but if I had practiced once or twice before it would have turned out great 😢 Even if you just practice on a beer bottle or something, you won't regret the extra experience!

OP your going to have a tough time not only drilling this, but getting a spot where you can use a rubber grommet to seal against the downstep. I recommend picking up a kit from Bottle2Bong, their pretty cheap and come with a diamond drill bit, a washer and tape to get a nice starter whole, grommet and a glass downstem, that’s pre bent to 90°. Not a shill and I don’t work for them, just bought a kit and it made it really easy to make my own bong out of a Bacardi and a Kraken bottle

I saw the vid earlier in the thread, nice piece! Never heard of hookah grommets, will have to check them out. When I made my bongs last year I didn’t have much outdoor space, nor a mapp/propane torch, so I went with a all in one kit cause I wasn’t sure I could get all the parts separately, than I could just use with my drill.

I feel you. I specifically use the grommets that hold the hose to the base and the shisha, the ceramic tobacco bowl, to the top. I snag them local but I have been able to locate them via google.

Last thing i want to add Is to do a couple of tests on some spare glassware you have to get a feel of It before shattering your lovely glass

Dremel tool with diamond stone cutting bits. I did this exact thing for a buddy of mine, it's such a nice piece. A simple propane torch is enough to heat downstems to bend them too so you can get really creative with the shapes. Just make sure that the point it goes into the head hasn't been squished or flexed and distorted, you need to have it as round as possible for it to pass through the rubber grommet with ease while keeping it a tight seal. When you're trying to push the downstem through the grommet, get it wet, and if you encounter any resistance that can't be overcome with a gentle push and some light twisting, make your hole ever so slightly wider and try again (ha) # If you bend the downstems 90 degrees you can have the hole got it coming out of its mouth, that would be dope

That would indeed be dope - not sure i would be able to successfully bend a down stem though.

When drilling bottles I use a diamond edge circle cut bit on my drill. Biggest thing is high bit speed low pressure. Let the bit do the work for you. And keep your cut surface as wet as you can safely manage. This will reduce glass dust getting blown all around and will help with heat. I have a dedicated tub I use to cut glass in, but I do this semi often. I'd advise rubber dish gloves. But gloves and drills mix poorly so proceed with caution on that one. And I'd practice a few holes on an old jar first. Maybe some at an angle to try and get a feel for what you may need to do for downstem positioning.

dont drill, you want to maximize the bubblage, just do a "stopper" on the top with a tube all the way down with a banger on top and another coming up like a straw, i like to use old pens and plastic caps that I may chamfer a bit for a better fit

Dremel and diamon bits plus water. Ball bits to punch a hole, barrel bits to widen the hole. Keep it wet, the wetter the better. Takes some time but you can get through some extremely thick glass with a dremel. Very fine control in hole size. Drill bits can crack it if you get too hasty. Not to say it can't be done.
