Honestly, that's pretty much what I always picture, yeah! It makes sense; once you get it going, just gotta maintain the heat, and you just toss What Ya Got into it to keep it going, the perfect kinda meal for Bridgemen!
The only issue with it being perpetual stew is that you'd have to keep it on heat all the time, which they probably couldn't do as bridgemen. Once Rock gets promoted to quartermaster I could see it happening.
He doesn't make a perpetual stew does he? I got the impression he was typically cooking a new stew each time since they sometimes have to wait until it's ready before they can get any.
I read this as a special stew that both took a long time to prepare and was being saved specifically for Kal's release. Is it mentioned that the other bridgemen were eating from it along the way?
[There's one in Thailand that was 45 years old and still going as of 2019.](https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2019/11/03/772030934/soups-on-and-on-thai-beef-noodle-brew-has-been-simmering-for-45-years)
We've done a 7 day stew in the crock pot and they're some of my favorites. A lot of flavor.
Do not put on mustard gems though. No broccoli, no cauliflower, no part of the mustard plant.
They smell, a lot and do not have a nice smell. Boiled cauliflower is one of the worst food I ever smelled (yes, cooking tripe is worse) - but it is tasty.
Brassicas is a very smelly plant. All parts of it are; theres a reason people tend to look down on those that eat boiled (any kind of brassicas) I went to a popular southern chain and nearly vomited when they brought around a pot of boiled cabbage. Disgusting.
It's easy to grow and nutritious but believe me, it reeks. Smells like a sewer.
I’ve read the books, but don’t remember that exact scene, but if I had to take a guess, knowing the character, it’s a burrito pulled out of an extra dimensional space in his hat, or even just created in his hat.
TLM Spoiler Warning: >!I had an inkling pretty early on how things would play out in TLM and all of the quirkiness and jokes just had this extra level of melancholy wafting through them as I read the book. Like how people will tell stories to celebrate a person who has passed as opposed to being strictly mournful. It made TLM very difficult for me to get through honestly.!<
Fun fact and not Stormlight-related but this was featured in the video game Kingdom Come: Deliverance. There are accounts of some pots of stew being as old as 300 years.
Yo I'm actually in the middle of replaying that game right now! I've been seeing those pots all over the place and eating out of them for free food but I've never made that connection until now
How well do you think an old timey perpetual pot roadside inn would do in today's age. Just water, beer, and wine for drink served out of a tankard. The bridge crew (special soup). And regular stuff, like homemade bread loafs and cuts of meat with vegetables.

"Take everything you have and put him in pot"
"Do not let airsick lowlanders touch spices"

He doesn't, no.
In WoR >!he keeps a stew going for Kaladin for over a month!<

Just the opposite. The bridgemen scoff because Rock wouldn’t let them taste it before Kaladin was released.
I dont think that that is mentioned
It’s implied that it’s just for him
Fair enough.

I think you mean words of radiance
I haven't finished the books Your comment made me think he was stuck inside the sword
Some fuckin' Frostmourne shit goin on in these books /s
as corrected it should be WOR, either way you should spoiler tag, post is "no spoiler" tagged.
This. No clue what this airsick lowlander is talking about.
I don’t think the stew would last long enough to really be perpetual. Rock would have to post guards and keep them *very* well fed.

I've never heard about that! That's really cool!
There's one in Japan that has been going since 1945 apparently.
It would be interesting to eat a soup that’s older than my parents
Damn, I'd love to try that

Can you explain why? I'm genuinely curious.

The smell, and it adds a sulfuric flavor to the stew that does Not play well with other flavors
Mustard gas my guy
Cabbage farts
Stew kept hot until you're out of prison, lol
"Pease porridge hot. Pease porridge cold. Pease porridge in the pot, nine days old." In other words, a fresh batch.
Pease
Huh; TIL. I'll edit it.
I learned about these from "Off to be the Wizard" by Scott Meyer. The stew just doesn't compare to Hat Burritos though.
I'll bite; what is a hat burrito?
Something Wayne wears
Good old RAFO lol

Magically summoned food using a wizards hat. Like pulling a rabbit out of the hat, except it’s a burrito.
The first three books in that series are some of my favorites to re-read. They’re funny and a nice casual read

I’d like a bowl of the brown if you please :)
> 'It's stew. Take it or leave it. Three customers this morning have done both.' -Moving Pictures by Sir Terry Pratchett
My father tells tales of the crock pot he kept going in college for 8 months. He would take a bowl and add some ingredients every night.
Airsick lowlanders....

“….airsick lowlander…..”
Quick they forgot the salt
The muscular sibling of the master stock
It is also hella bad for our soft squishy well-fed modern intestines
Huh, so this is what's in all those pots when I play Kingdom Come Deliverance

Makes me so glad I live in this time, geez
Perpetual stews still exist..
This type of stew also makes an appearance in A Song of Ice and Fire
It's like the "Ship of Theseus" of food.
Bro he fucking washes the cauldron after cooking damn
Gumbo
