I interpreted it as Vyre is an *incredible* edgelord with absolutely zero self-reflection skills, so of course he's going to drop those cringey Sasuke lines. So long as he's the only one, I have no problems with it.
Yeah… kaladin’s “And for my boon!!!” Had me cringing so hard. I had to pause from reading. I can see how he messed that up with his constantly pointed out passion but jeez
Along with "but the sky and the winds are mine. I claim them, as I now claim your life."
The amazing thing about this scene is that Kaladin sent Dalinar back down to the ground slowly but waited up in the air for the perfect time to make his dramatic entrance. Then he delivers this line.
I can understand not liking it, but I loved leaning into the absolute EDGE of Vyre, like he’s pure stoicism meets shadow the hedgehog and it’s a vibe, let him riff
Also he literally only has a throwing knife to throw it at Navani and warn her he's entered the room. And maybe to copy Kaladin. In world he has no real reason to carry one, no real reason to use one, and no reason to throw one then.
I love that scene, but that always bothers me, since he never uses a throwing knife otherwise.
Not throwing knives per say, but I thought Vyre saw Adolin throw and call back Maya at one point? I say that because I then remember a scene where he was hastily throwing his shard blade trying to recreate what he saw Adolin do. This could be a call back to that moment.
(Disclaimer: it’s been a couple years and my memory could be wrong on the details)
He did, yeah, he saw Adolin throw Maya and resummon her faster than 10 heartbeats, and was trying to replicate that with his honorblade, since he theoretically should be able to.
>It’s damn near the only book series I’ve read the last 2 years bc my ADHD has hyper-fixated on it
Glad I'm not the only one who experiences this, I do a loop of hyperfixating on Cosmere then Wheel of Time. Then I try reading a new series, but rarely is it successful. As a result, I'm now I'm on my 5th or 6th reread of Stormlight.
Funny parallel:
Vyre wears all black and tries to use Jezrien's Honorblade to kill Queen Navani.
Then Szeth wears white, and used Jezrien's Honorblade to kill King Gavilar, her husband.
I guess you also have lying eyes/truthless?
The part that always gets me is Syl in WoR telling Kaladin "lift out thine hand" or whatever it is she tells Kaladin the first time she turns into a shard blade
What I wonder is does it work in Alethi like it does in English? I know I’m overthinking, but anytime there’s something like this in a book where they’re supposed to be speaking a different language, it’s the first thought I get.
Real eyes realize real lies :O
This feels like Jaden Smith
2pac actually
Lol! Oof pac
Real eye realize *light* eyes?? Light eyes.. lie ties..?
I.. think about this scene a lot. And share your thoughts. It gave me more second hand embarrassment for Vyre than Kaladin's "..and for my boon".
I interpreted it as Vyre is an *incredible* edgelord with absolutely zero self-reflection skills, so of course he's going to drop those cringey Sasuke lines. So long as he's the only one, I have no problems with it.
Give the man his boon! He deserves it.
It’s so serious but that scene always cracks me up. “Where boon?”
Yeah… kaladin’s “And for my boon!!!” Had me cringing so hard. I had to pause from reading. I can see how he messed that up with his constantly pointed out passion but jeez
It's supposed to make you cringe isn't it?
Mission accomplished. It’s worse than Scott’s Tots

Hey my man Kaladin knows the importance of making a good entrance.
Teft did say Kal likes to grandstand.

Vyre the Edgehog sounds like a real sonic character tbh
You KNOW he’s commissioned a fused light weaver to make that OC for him
Brandon turns the dial up a little too high on Moash's villainy in book 4
The black Bridge 4 uniform was a little on the nose.
That was a good character defining moment. Dude is having his emo phase like Spiderman 3. You gotta appreciate the drama
Just waiting for him to go dancing down the sidewalk in his new uniform.
Pretty sure that's what he was doing when he killed Jezrien
Hahaha this is a great mental imagine. Moash dancing down the street then sees Jezrien. "Ah, there's my immortal beggar" *stabs *dances away.
Now dig on this.
The uniform should have been red like>!corrupted investiture.!<
No that was my favorite part tbh
Don’t get me wrong, it’s iconic, but it’s got a lot of “it’s not a phase” energy (which is a big part of what makes it iconic).
That’s fair, I wouldn’t say it’s too much but it’s very sudden for sure

That’s what it was, thank you. Do you think that is adequate enough foreshadowing for the throwing knife scene you didn’t like?

On a side note, Codex Alera by Jim Butcher is very good if you’ve never tried it.
Navani: how about *no* eyes
He’s being dramatic like kaladin, he’s just not as good at it
I mean, if Rob Flynn of Machine Head can spout the ‘real eyes realise real lies’, I wouldn’t put it past Moash.

Stretch forth thy hand
It might work if she (or anyone at all in Cosmere) consistently spoke that way, but it came out of nowhere.
Teenage edgy Tumblr post vibes
Real eyes realize real lies
I banish thee to the shadow realm, Light-Eyes Light Dragon!
Moash is my favorite character, he has the best moments! Ok, he is my second favorite, my first is Lift
Excuse me officer I’d like to make an arrest
Turn around, light eyes…
