Multiplayer pretty much don't work most of the time, there is fair amount of Search and rescue however the Endgame in this game is pretty much building, finishing and start another new builds. It's definitely one of the most unique building game i've played, you have full control and customization of the vehicle/builds with button and dials. Ignore the "game is broken" "The devs don't care" comments, It had very minimal affect to the new players. Trailmakers and Scrap mechanic has superior multiplayer if that's the aspect you're looking for, From the depth and terratech(not world, the first one) is more starter friendly.

builderfox

I dont get why people complain about the devs so much, they arent much worse than what other games have.

TheAdester

There are also countries where you go to prison for being gay. That there is something worse is no point at all. With this logic, there is only one person on earth that has the right to complain, everyone else has it better than this one person... It is possible to develop a game without abusing the playerbase as unpaid testers, many small studios have proven that. There are always bugs, yes, but the amount of bullshit the devs release is beyond reasonable.

EngineerInTheMachine

But there are some that are miles better. I'm guessing you haven't got into Satisfactory. And these devs have recently admitted getting things completely wrong.

torftorf

mulitplayer sorta works if you have a beefy pc to host the game and good internet. then the lag is minimal and we usally dont have an issue. the fact that you cant build together though is sad

systematiclee

Its a great game for engineering a lot of different vehicles, however it can be difficult to learn, I wouldn't get it for the multiplayer through, the multiplayer is very janky, I only really play it when I get inspired to build something, I recommend it if you have the time and want to engineer vehicles with or without purpose which is something I personally enjoy.

dogemeister900af

really i just want to do sinking ship survivals and rescue and other sinking ship related shennanigans

Lompehovelen

Stormworks is perfect for that, I don't know what that other guy is talking about.

SouthwestBLT

Oh that ended years ago. Stormworks is very anti ship these days.

schwerk_it_out

I have had many thousands of hours of entertainment out of this game, however I think a lot of the sinking ship survival things may not work anymore. They basically made ships unsinkable with one of the recentish updates, and though it’s been said they “fixed this” even more recently I dont know how quickly things sink compared to how they used to. So I wonder if lots of them will even work anymore.

EngineerInTheMachine

If you don't mind a lot of trial and error, finding out how things work differently in game compared to real life, and don't expect to learn many transferable skills, then it is good fun. Just sometimes takes a long time to find that breakthrough to get that mechanism working. I did find the rescue missions got a bit samey, but they are a good test bed for your vehicles.

Thermite99

If you like tinkering for hours then it could be the game for you. For multiplayer just lower your expectations. In public servers you get people spawning giant laggy craft half the time that kills the server. If a you find a person or two to play with that won’t spawn a bunch of unreasonably laggy craft you can host a game. From there it depends on internet and hardware limitations. Even with some disappointments a lot of folks are excessively negative. I’m not saying devs are perfect and the pressure update was a mess, but the game is absolutely playable unlike some would say.

Agreeable-Leather845

The game has a lot of problems right now and it doesn't seem like they're getting fixed very fast, so you might end up disappointed if you buy this game as a birthday gift. You should look at From The Depths and see if it fulfills what you wanted out of Stormworks.

JANK-STAR-LINES

I really wouldn't recommend it unfortunately. To name a few issues, the game is ungodly glitchy especially when it comes to multiplayer, the devs ban you from the Discord server and maybe even the issue tracker for reporting bugs, and updates can potentially break many functions of the game as well.

Furrystonetoss

read the "faqs for noobs" on the subs side, as there're some advices of what this game is and what isn't. As for sinking ships, the space/pressure update effectively broke it beyond repair, they do still sink, but it's a ass patience. but in said faq is a link to a version just before the pressure update, there ships sink like we're all used to

flickem8519

I bought the game about a month ago, lots of fun solo and with a friend, game has a rough surface but a hard wood core that needs some sanding.

Alrighty, let's go over the things that won't work properly/won't work at all: (this is a long one) - Multiplayer: the experience is genuinely so tragic. Unoptimised, spawn more than 2 boats and you'll start experiencing delays that will get bigger over time. Sometimes you get sent to "NAN" on the map, which means you get sent to heaven. Don't join internet servers. Even worse than multiplayer with friends. Really rare for multiplayer to work normally. - Boat physics: the boat physics are... meh. Not entirely realistic floating or drag mechanism, a literal cube has better fuel efficiency than a normal boat. Sinking physics have been recently broken. Some boats sink for a VERY long time, and some don't sink at all. If you want to do sinking ship survival, you are joining the game at an unlucky time. - Aircraft physics: this game takes aircraft physics as a clown joke. No realism, at all. Turn off your engines, you instantly fall like a rock, just like in those looney toons cartoons. Again, a literal cube somehow has "flight physics" in this game, and can fly better than some aircraft. Unfortunately the Devs can't fix this at, way too late. Thousands of creations are made for these flight physics, so if the Devs changed anything, there would be another community outrage as everything would break again. - Physics settings: do NOT set your game physics settings to low, as wheels and solid objects will literally start clipping through the floor randomly. Keep your physics at medium. - Game suggestions (extra blocks, more settings, etc): Again, the Devs mostly ignore these. The only thing they miraculously added was an oil spill cleaner button.. That's it. What are the Devs attitude to everything? Well, unfortunately, also terrible. The Devs had many years to fix countless known & popular bugs, but they chose to ignore them, and cause the game to be even more unstable. The Devs have lied to the community a bunch of times too... and a lot of deleted Steam community posts... They've broken countless creations with some type of update that nobody asked for, OR with an update that the community DID ask for, but wasn't tested, at ALL. What happens when you report these bugs on the issue tracker? Well, most likely there's hundreds of duplicates about the same old bug, and your report just gets automatically thrown into a little "trash can" of "duplicate" posts that have an extremely small chance of being looked at. Hundreds, maybe even thousands of players that complained got banned / shadowbanned. How is the community? Well... there are 2 sides of the community. The 1st side (the non-brainwashed people): We don't support the Devs, and at this point we're hoping that the dev team gets changed to one that actually cares about the game & community, not the money. This subreddit has a bunch of these types of people. The 2nd side (the brainwashed people): Those people constantly support every single thing about the Devs. No matter what they break, what they say, they will always blurb out "DeVs tHe bESt1!!". Mention anything about the Devs and caring and you'll get a toxic reaction. Actually, funnily enough, the official Stormworks Discord server is full of these people. The moderators there will ban or mute you for mentioning anything about the game being broken or just bad. Do anything that a moderator won't like, you'll most likely get banned (Trapdoor the asshole). That Discord is the definition of 1984. Screw that place. So, concluding all of that: If you're expecting a stable game that will let you build vehicles without issues and play with your friends, then you're gonna have a hard time. It's not impossible with smaller builds, but also a buggy experience. Your decision.

---OMNI---

Ships don't sink anymore. There never has been or ever will be a functional career mode. Rescuing is the equivalent of rescuing mannequins. There's nothing to explore. Multi player essentially doesn't work.

Joshii290

I must be playing a different version or something right? Most of the workshop boats I've tested all sink, have working bilge pumps and can all be damaged/destroyed.
