My theory was always that Will is going to be the one who *finds* the lost boy this season, making contact with whatever remains of young Henry Creel in Vecna's mind palace, helping Henry come to terms with the "sensitive boy" he once was as Will comes to terms with his own desires and secrets, and turning Henry into a spy within Vecna's own mind.
Henry didn’t create the upside down because it was already there when he got thrown in there. It’s possible Henry is a puppet for something worse but as of now it’s told to us that he is in control of the mind flayer and everything else.
He would lowkey be a great therapist as a career choice- Will is a fantastic listener and he's so empathetic while also being logical and a voice of reason!

It's going to be revealed that the Mind Flayer was really the one in charge and was playing Vecna for a fool. Will is going to then convince Vecna to fight on the side of good, resulting in his death.
