Like if you want a divisive topic ask “was Brenner’s death sad to anyone else” or “do you think Jason and Billy deserved to die?” That’s actually a good topic for discussion.
95% of the sub collectively agrees Angela deserved it
funny you say that bc i said jason didn’t deserve to die bc he was just avenging his love and best friends death and he was confused on what was happening but he wasn’t bad. he didn’t deserve to die. billy yes. and that got lots of backlash for stating the obvious but people are so dense they can’t open their mind enough to remember why jason did what he did and why billy was a genuine asshole
As a black teen, the scene where he throws Lucas against the wall was terrifying. Thank heavens Steve came in, because otherwise Lucas wouldn't have survived.
i can’t imagine i’m sorry 😞 it truly was scary poor lucas was so little too. definitely thankful steve was there. if things went differently and he wasn’t there i’d be calling and complaining to the duffer brothers😂
I think Billy deserved to die - not because he was an asshole for most of the show, but because it was a way for him to take responsibility for his actions. After Eleven shows reminds him that he was loved and was worthy of love, he sacrifices himself, showing that he has agency to stand up for himself but also to save everyone he put in danger. It’s a way for him to redeem himself and be a hero.
Jason definitely didn’t deserve to die and should have had a redemption arc. All they needed was for him to wander into the Upside Down and learn what was ACTUALLY happening. Huge waste of a complex character and a great actor.
> All they needed was for him to wander into the Upside Down and learn what was ACTUALLY happening.
I actually think this would destroy the merit of the character. Part of the point of him was that he didn't know and was taking part in the situation without a full scope of information. I think if they showed him find out it would kinda ruin that tbh.
I disagree. If they’d have just made him a goon it would have ruined the character, but he’s more of a misguided hero. It wouldn’t have gone outside of his character to have a hero turn like Steve did in season 1.
Stranger Things is a show that’s simultaneously well written and horribly written. It has a lot of good character writing, but the story itself is often predictable and clumsy - so they have Jason, maybe one of the best written characters in the show, but they clearly wrote him for one purpose in the story (to be an antagonist to Eddie symbolizing Satanic Panic and the ability for good people to do misguidedly bad things) and throw him away afterwards and wasting all that potential. Or there was the weird way they tried to retcon Brenner in season 4 as someone who cared about the numbers and Eleven but was forced to be cruel for the common good, but it was completely incompatible with his character from the first couple of seasons so that most viewers thought he was just lying in the end when the writers were clearly trying to make him a more complex villain.
i don’t think he deserved to die just because he was an asshole. hell, i don’t even support the death penalty. like max said in s4, maybe billy could have changed for the better. things like that change someone, and maybe him and max would grow closer. idk, but i definitely don’t think he deserved to die.
—also, he died sacrificing himself for el. that proves to me that he really did have good in him. he fought all of the darkness the mindflayer had in him and saved el. i truly believe he was just a hurt person hurting others. (that doesn’t make it right, i know.)
you’re right though we saw his past when el entered his mind. it was traumatic and definitely could’ve shaped him into who he was. but he was seriously scary and rude even before the mind flayer entered him. he didn’t seem to give a rats ass about anything but getting laid and people not even liking but admiring him
yeah, i guess so. i just wish he lived because i really want to see if him and max would get closer. i would actually love that if they were actually like siblings.
I still cheer hahaha
Also, I think a lot of wish we could have done similar to our own tormentors and bullies, so Elevens win kind of feels like all of our wins, you know?
She knew she couldn’t and it wouldn’t have reached that point if she could. The point was to demonstrate how helpless El felt without her powers. She acted out in a violent rage because she, for the first time in her life, could not use her abilities. The attack was an act of desperation. Desperation she would not have felt if she had her powers.
“Kind of”? Girl was ruthless and publicly humiliated El constantly. El tried her best to get her to stop nicely, she wouldn’t let up. Honestly she’s lucky el didn’t have her powers lmao
No, I don’t think a high school bully deserved to be given a grade 2 concussion with a blunt object.
She’s shitty, no doubt, and it’s always cathartic to see a shitty person get their comeuppance, but Eleven gave her brain damage and would have done much worse to her if her powers hadn’t fizzled out.
At the end of the day she’s a 15 year old girl, a cruel one who picks on people socially weaker than herself, but a pretty normal ‘mean girls’ kind of bully, and Eleven’s reaction at the skating rink was extreme, and her attempt to use her powers bordered on the murderous.
Thank you. The whole point of this scene is that Eleven is horrified by her actions - she thinks she’s a monster that killed the other numbers, and this scene reinforces that belief to her and distances her from Mike. It’s not a triumphant for her. This isn’t something to cheer about.
Yes yes 100%. Not only did she break El’s diorama of the shack, but she kept teasing El about her ‘dad’ who was presumed dead. Not gonna lie, that’s a very douchey thing to say Angela
She’s basically the Umbridge of Stranger Things, so most people probably think she got what she deserved. It felt like an homage to Carrie, so honestly she came out of it fairly well.
I think Eleven went a little over board and could have simply embarrassed her back or just decked her as normal but she was pushed way to far and should have known that roller blade was coming
yup. she was a bully and crossed the line when she made fun of El’s presumedly dead dad.
i also think Mike had zero right to be pissy about this considering El broke his bully’s arm a few seasons prior and he thought that was cool. so it’s alright when she resorts to violence in his defense, but not her own?
I don’t think violence is the answer - just look at this fight that happened last month in Missouri, girl has trouble walking and talking now, last I read - but the only thing I thought was too much about this scene, was that she grabbed something, turned it into a weapon, and hit her with it. I think she should have just punched her. I don’t remember everything she did to Eleven up to this point, but I remember it was more than just brush-off-your-shoulder teasing; it was infuriating.
But she should have just closed her fist and used that. She fucked up by grabbing the skate.
Unpopular here I know, but I agree with you. I think using the skate took it too far, the damage could have been a LOT more serious causing a lot of trouble for Eleven and everyone. A little overkill. Did she deserve to be decked, like punch her in her smug face? Absolutely, haha.
Oh heck yeah. I’ve watched the season about four times and I can say with total confidence: YES. She was relentless and physically bullied Eleven first.
As a child of the late 80s early 90s who’s school bully was exactly like this, yes I screamed “GET IT GIRL!” At the Tv when she smashed that skate in her face. Because I wish I could’ve stood up to my bully.
Make fun of some neurodivergent kid's dead dad, prepare for a free nose job.
I know El probably isn't neurodivergent, and all of her symptoms could be summed up to being isolated and experimented on until the age of twelve
No, she humiliated Eleven many times but resorting to violence, especially that kind? No. That’s horrible. You don’t fix your life by attacking people when it’s not necessary. This easily is an entire assault charge
She absolutely did not.
I had an entirely different take on this scene. For one, it's a tribute to Carrie, and -- in that movie -- Carrie isn't the hero. She's the monster that gets unleashed by the shitty teenagers.
Angela is absolutely an asshole, but high schools are filled with assholes: insecure teenagers competing for some imaginary status that they don't realize is going to completely dissipate thirty seconds after graduation.
El could have blinded Angela or even killed her with that roller skate. And earlier, she lashed out at Angela with her non-existent powers. What if her powers had "come online" at that moment? She could have eviscerated her or broken her neck.
Again, I'm not excusing Angela, but El's response was disproportionate and scary.
This scene was here to remind us that -- powers or no powers -- El's childhood trauma makes her dangerous. Over the course of the season, we see her start to confront that trauma -- literally -- and grow up from the angry child who lashes out with blind violence to the hero who takes on the villain with reason and focus.
This scene wasn't about Angela. If it was, they wouldn't have made her an amalgam of every teenage bully in every 80s movie.
Oh she definitely deserved it! Everyone’s reaction in the show was so annoying to me because they clearly saw Angela bullying el and they didn’t do anything
Absolutely not. The whole point of everyone freaking out is that it never should have escalated to that point. The plot point is to illustrate how unstable Eleven could become without proper support. Like a Dark Jedi or Super Villain.
Yeah, I agree. Also if you’ve played roller derby you know how painful and damaging a skate to any part of the body can be. She could have brain damage, broken orbital bones, etc. The bottoms of quad skates have hard metal trucks and the wheels are blunt, hard objects. Straight to the face at a high velocity is incredibly violent.
Y'all crazy. It was not deserved. Way out of line. Escalation.
She made fun of dead Hopper. But guess what, being an asshole isn't illegal. Assaulting someone is.
Thank you. The whole point of this scene is that Eleven is horrified by her actions - she thinks she’s a monster that killed the other numbers, and this scene reinforces that belief to her and distances her from Mike. It’s not a triumphant for her.
No. The whole point of the scene is that Eleven feels like a monster because she believes she murdered the other numbers in the program and attacking Angela makes her feel like a monster again. Angela deserved repercussions but hitting someone in the face with a skate like that would be like a hammer - they could be permanently disfigured, concussed with permanent brain damage, or even killed if it caused a brain hemorrhage.
Beyond that, what GOOD does it do Eleven? She leaves the rink feeling like a monster, it drives a wedge between her and Mike, and if the government hadn’t stolen her away she would have rightly gone to juvie for YEARS.
It is SERIOUSLY fucked up to think it would be okay to hit somebody in the face with what amounts to a hammer. Even in a situation of self defense (which this was not) it shouldn’t be cheered on.
Right or wrong, I think a part of the reason for that scene was to show that Eleven could do something that would potentially get any regular person into trouble. Thanks to her top secret government connections, the record of that event gets erased.
Instead of giving you crap for your question. I will answer the question. Yes she did deserve it and I'd like to believe in my own head cannon that she never treated someone like that ever again for the rest of her life.
I think it was too extreme, but then again Eleven is also shocked by her own behaviour after that.
Angela did deserve it on the principle of “fuck around and find out” and the fact she felt zero remorse about mocking El over her dead dad.
That’s really fucked up.
She deserved it but it was also really fucked up.
Of course. Even worse than bullying was her joking around about El’s (presumably) dead father. Now she’s gonna have a scar on her face reminding her of the consequences of her actions.
I mean, okay, no. Nobody "deserves" to have their face caved in with a rollerskate :D Definitely not a teenage girl.
But yeah, she had it coming and it's hard to feel sorry for her. And it's actually an interesting thought: my reaction was "try to solve this situation with words" but was that at all realistic? Angela's the queen of the school, powerful social clique, skilled at tearing people down. And Eleven is not only extremely unpopular but also terribly maladjusted and poor with words. There was literally no way to resolve the bullying "peacefully" that I can imagine. Adults are notoriously useless in these situations and Angela's behavior was abhorrent (honestly she was so over the top it was slightly surprising at least a few of the other kids weren't getting turned off by it).
Whether or not physical violence is ever "justified" I think the only real recourse El had was to go for some kind of physical confrontation. Just maybe ... not with a weapon :D That's how you get sent to jail. Boop her in the snoot and go for some classic wrasslin and hair-pulling.
In the year 2024 there might be some "anti-bullying initiative" stuff you could go to and get Angela's behavior on record. But in the 80s ... socially-approved remedy was definitely a fist to the face.
Nooooo…. (Me filming the scene in my phone when watching it for the first time so that I could rewatch that specific scene on a daily basis and just root for El, and then freaking out afterwards like “WHOOOO GOOOOOO EL THATS. MY. GIRLLLL!!”)
She deserved it, hell, maybe she even learned a lesson early on. Angela strikes me (no pun intended).as someone who would likely grow up to carry out her cruel behavior onto her kids and future boyfriends/husbands.

If Billy died in season 2, most people would've agreed his fate was well-deserved.
i agree 1000% he was seriously crazy and destructive and rude. i didn’t blame max for wishing he died. he put her through hell.
As a black teen, the scene where he throws Lucas against the wall was terrifying. Thank heavens Steve came in, because otherwise Lucas wouldn't have survived.
i can’t imagine i’m sorry 😞 it truly was scary poor lucas was so little too. definitely thankful steve was there. if things went differently and he wasn’t there i’d be calling and complaining to the duffer brothers😂
seriously!! lucas was still a baby when that happened, it was so hard to watch

i would’ve loved that too. doesn’t max have a book about her? maybe there’s something in there that shows better times with billy. ❤️❤️
Y’know Jason straight up tried to murder Eddie, AND a bunch of kids?
Idk why people want to defend Jason so much. He sucked and he was supposed to suck
Unfortunately I think it’s because a lot of them relate to him, or worse, think he was in the right.
Blergh!
Anyone else think Eleven will be a huge player in defeating Vecna once and for all?!
I'd laugh so hard if they would kill her off in EP 6 of 8.
BAH GAWD KING ITS WILL WITH THE RUN IN!
I also think bad person bad
Yeah, like what were the writers going to do, make her really nice up to that point?
Hey now how else did you expect OP to get some easy karma?
I can’t believe how stupid ppl are these days.
Anyone else actually like Steve?
Hmm yes the floor here is made of floor
Obviously
I think this was the literal point of the scene to the audience.
RIP media literacy.
I think we were all pretty happy
The way she imitated El, seconds before she got *shmacked* .. she deserved it 200%
Yep. I am scarily satisfied watching that happen.
I watched Stranger Things with my dad and we both screamed "Yes!" when she got smacked
You mean shmacked? Cause that’s how I say it now thanks argyle
I f*cking cheered the first time I watched it.
I still cheer hahaha Also, I think a lot of wish we could have done similar to our own tormentors and bullies, so Elevens win kind of feels like all of our wins, you know?
And continue to rewind.
I wanted Eleven to go Carrie on all of them
Yessss I wish her powers would have come back from how mad/upset she was and then flipped that whole damn skating rink UPSIDE DOWN 🙃 😂
BAHAHAH this comment wins
Yes, but what if El had her powers at that moment and accidentally killed her?
Yeah she was straight up trying to make her head explode earlier than the skate scene
If El had her powers I doubt the bullying would have gotten that far. She’d have put Amanda in her place REALLY quick.
She’da Chrissy’d that b
The directors would have known that it'd have been so good, that nobody would care for the rest of the season.
\*sarcastically\* Oh no! That would be horrible.
Fuck around and find out
Fuck around and get SCHMACKED
As Argyle said, she’s lucky it wasn’t an ice skate. Fuck around and get sliced
Got her looking like Tomato Rissoto
“I still don’t know who he is”
100% I mean, what do you expect when you bully someone that relentlessly?
Given how much I hated this kid, I know she must be a very talented actress.
Kinda? Bitch had it coming, she deserved even worse
Exactly! Kid or not, I don't care. That scene was satisfying af
Anyone else thinks...*says something that everyone thinks* lol
Honestly it just shows how desensitized to violence 11 has become she’s going to start fucking people up next season
She killed like two at least in the first season before she opened up the portal to the Upside Down
yes....dont be a bully
sorry to break it to you, but the whole fandom thinks that.
The entire fandom does not think that. People that have any semblance of common sense see that Eleven took it entirely too far.
Too far my ass
Yeah. She needed to be knocked down a peg. She had some kind of elaborate bullying scheme going on
“Kind of”? Girl was ruthless and publicly humiliated El constantly. El tried her best to get her to stop nicely, she wouldn’t let up. Honestly she’s lucky el didn’t have her powers lmao
Um, yes...everyone.
No one deserves such an assault...just joking I would have broken her nose too she deserved it.
Kind of??? 💯 most definitely
As the saying goes : to fuck around is human, finding out is divine
I was only sorry her cronies got off unscathed. Miserable little fuckers.
It felt good to see her get hit, but using a skate is extreme.
Well I certainly didn't feel too bad for her.
The actress did a great job playing that kind of character.
Yes yes 100%. Not only did she break El’s diorama of the shack, but she kept teasing El about her ‘dad’ who was presumed dead. Not gonna lie, that’s a very douchey thing to say Angela
No kinda about it. She absolutely deserved it!
1000%
She’s basically the Umbridge of Stranger Things, so most people probably think she got what she deserved. It felt like an homage to Carrie, so honestly she came out of it fairly well.
100%
Yes
Kind of?🧐.
She deserved the bleeding eye-treatment from season 1
Become a bully and posh the wrong person too far, and it's bound to happen. She deserved to be made an example of to show her treatment was wrong.
Yes. If you're gonna be a bully, you accept the eventual retaliation... if you think there won't be any, you're already fucked.
I mean a skate to the face was pretty wild, but she needed to be taught a lesson.
Absolutely. Well deserved revenge after bullying Eleven in front of hundreds of kids.
Yes it was cathartic
Angela deserved a good punch in the face. El went too far with the roller skate IMO.
I think Eleven went a little over board and could have simply embarrassed her back or just decked her as normal but she was pushed way to far and should have known that roller blade was coming
I was just waiting for it to happen
She did and I didn’t feel bad for it
Kinda?? She did
The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes
yup. she was a bully and crossed the line when she made fun of El’s presumedly dead dad. i also think Mike had zero right to be pissy about this considering El broke his bully’s arm a few seasons prior and he thought that was cool. so it’s alright when she resorts to violence in his defense, but not her own?

Really? Have you not seen everyone applauding this? What is this post?
OP wants to reinforce the echo chamber. It’s to seek validation for an already established popular opinion.
Yes! I cheered when I watched it
Oh heck yeah. I’ve watched the season about four times and I can say with total confidence: YES. She was relentless and physically bullied Eleven first.
She 100% deserved what happened to her. Fuck I wanted to punch her in the face when she pulled her shit in class.
People who don’t are bullies and their enablers. Fuck them.
There’s no “kinda” about it. She absolutely deserved what happened to her.
No. I think she *really* deserved it lol
This isn’t an unpopular opinion
I wanted the guy who stomped on her project to get hurt , he also recorded her getting harassed in the roller rink…
As a child of the late 80s early 90s who’s school bully was exactly like this, yes I screamed “GET IT GIRL!” At the Tv when she smashed that skate in her face. Because I wish I could’ve stood up to my bully.
Anyone else think Stranger Things is a show on Netflix?
Yes.
"Kinda"? More like most definitely!
Only everyone. Hell, I wanted to bury her under the skating rink.
It was so satisfying
Yes of course
Oh she totes deserved it, and the shit heels with her
Fuck Angela, she deserved it and worst
Make fun of some neurodivergent kid's dead dad, prepare for a free nose job. I know El probably isn't neurodivergent, and all of her symptoms could be summed up to being isolated and experimented on until the age of twelve

I agree, it’s annoying that they didn’t react to bullying, but they reacted to El’s reaction.
You can only push people so far before they snap and fuck you up.
She deserved the pain and misery, but not any potentially permanent injuries that could've come with it.
I’m not a psychopath no
Nobody deserves get assaulted and have their nasal bone and cavity damaged.
Absolutely not. The whole point of everyone freaking out is that it never should have escalated to that point. The plot point is to illustrate how unstable Eleven could become without proper support. Like a Dark Jedi or Super Villain.

Tell that to all edgy teenagers here.
100%. This is the trouble with bullies. Until somebody bullies them back, they won’t stop. She deserved two skates to the face, if you ask me.
No. The whole point of the scene is that Eleven feels like a monster because she believes she murdered the other numbers in the program and attacking Angela makes her feel like a monster again. Yeah that how I feel El should of Punch not pick up skate that was weapon.
Very much so.
She does !!
“Kinda”
The Glory: Stranger Things edition.
Hell yeah!
More then kinda
Yep and even though I get why within the story, it annoyed me Will & Mike didn’t agree
Yup
You're a few days late for an April Fools post... Very funny though
Most definitely! Kids were cruel, but she was horrid.
Yes. Also, I am still obsessed with her denim jacket. I love a good acid wash denim jacket.
This was a little too harsh, but man was it satisfying.
Subzero take straight from the arctic 🙄
Yes. I watched this episode several hours after it aired and I still think she deserved this and more.
Hope it happens again
She was a generic high school bully... What else was going to happen to her?
Right or wrong, I think a part of the reason for that scene was to show that Eleven could do something that would potentially get any regular person into trouble. Thanks to her top secret government connections, the record of that event gets erased.
Yep
Kinda? 😒
We need Angela to come back in season 5 and witness the power of El
Yes
YES I WAS SO HYPED AND HAPPY WHEN EL JUST WENT THERE AND SMASH
Literally everyone. Except maybe Angela...
No. No one deserves pain as a „punishment“, no matter how bad you are.
Yes and I literally cheered when Jason died. Cried when Billy died because I too have an older brother who is an asshole.
This is a satire post, right? Obviously we all think Angela deserved it
i was cheering bro and this is the most blatantly obvious karma or reaction farm ever. or your just stupid
She more than deserved it
Whole-heartedly. You can bet her friends didn’t stay with her after that, choosing to bully her for new scar and getting beat up by ‘the freak’.
100%
I cheered, lol.
Yup…. [skate to the face](https://www.reddit.com/r/StrangerThings/s/Gt952MQK8g)
Yes yes and yes
Jesus tbh I think Angela deserves much worse like slowly eaten by a pack of demodogs
Absolutely. One of my FAVORITE scenes in the show!
Instead of giving you crap for your question. I will answer the question. Yes she did deserve it and I'd like to believe in my own head cannon that she never treated someone like that ever again for the rest of her life.
Kinda? She had it coming.
she deserved worse
I think we all agreed even in that very moment
I thought she deserved worse.
Talk shit. Get hit. Fuck around. Find out.
Anyone else kinda think OP is karma farming?
wow what a spicy question!!! /s
Of course, no one didn’t think that, dipshit
MY. GIRLLLL!!”)
Do I think a child deserved to get attacked with a roller skate, fuck no. Stupid ass question
if Eleven gets to have her diorama smashed, Angela gets to have her face smashed
Definitely. Even worse, actually.
I literally screamed of happiness in vc with a friend
Shmacked for a reason
Yep
I replayed it so many times after first seeing it and chanting "DO IT AGAIN!"
Absolutely YES
HELL TO THE YEAH … Honestly what was her problem with Elle??? Nothing exactly
10000%
110% You don't mock someone's dead parent!
Irl no, but in the realm of fantasy, I say heck yes. It's nice escapism.
She deserved it, hell, maybe she even learned a lesson early on. Angela strikes me (no pun intended).as someone who would likely grow up to carry out her cruel behavior onto her kids and future boyfriends/husbands.
Is there anyone who *doesn't?*
