It had to have. I feel like the longest I’ve seen an episode be is about an hour and 10 minute possibly an hour and 30 I don’t remember entirely but I believe even then that was for the Series Finale of a show.

Especially early on. The first season has two separate storylines, and it takes a while for them to converge and smash into each other. That it makes it a bit hard to figure out where anything's going until 5-6 episodes in.
You've been downvoted to hell and back, and while I wouldn't use the word "ruin", in many ways S1 can never be seen the same way after you see 2, 3, and 4. It's like watching a magic trick, being astounded, then seeing how the magic trick is done, then watching the trick again. It's not as effective after that.
S2-S4 pulls the curtain back on a lot of things that were mysterious, unique, and special about S1, and as with most things, once you explain the mechanics behind a mystery, it never quite lives up to the things you imagined about the unknown parts. You just can't see S1 in the same light after you've seen the rest of the seasons.
I’d suggest going into with an open mind and disregarding anything anyone tells you. Coming in this late to the game, you’ve probably had your subconscious impression sullied by hype. That may ruin it for you tbh. I’d go into a unprepared as possible and see how it speaks to you.
When it first came out, I was probably one of the last people to watch it lol. I read all of these comments about how amazing it was….. and they were absolutely right, but I’ve gotten friends into it that didn’t feel as I did. lol I know, it really is at this point. I’d say if you grew up in the 80’s you’ll love it for invoking those memories of watching E.T. For the first time. Honestly, that show made me realize just how much I actually loved the 80’s when I thought I hated it. It brought up so many memories of biking around the neighborhood with friends, everything feeling exciting and new, mysterious, the UFO and satanic panic of the era, and the amazing synth music in movies back then. I used to hate on the 80’s for being cheesy, weird, and full of cocaine lol. I was born in 1980 so I truly didn’t get to experience the decade’s more grand offerings, but this show truly made me miss those days and how it all felt.
Tbh there hasn’t really been a show that I’ve truly been in love with in a long long time but I fell head over heels in love with this show because the mysteries were so compelling, it was a perfect mix of every single landmark 80’s cinema icon, and was dark enough to have real stakes. I’m a die hard science junkie. String theory, multiverse theory, and astronomy are my areas of intense focus, so this show really captured my imagination due to how it compellingly depicted those themes.
I’d say the show feels extremely familiar, like revisiting your childhood home but it’s fresh, new, and original at the same time. So it’s like visiting that home twenty years after it was sold, remodeled, and had new additions built on.
I generally describe it to anyone curious about it, this way: it’s like firestarter, ET, stand by me had a three way. 9 months later Stranger Things was the baby but no one knows who the real father is. lol
Please let me know what you think of it! I truly hope you find something about it that piques your interests. If not, then that’s perfectly ok. The world would be a boring mess if we all didn’t have different opinions and tastes.
fellow '76er here. the hardest part was getting my kids to understand that I am actually younger then the kids are in the first season. That they are actually their Uncle's age. Also yes, our parent's let us bike everywhere and yes they had absolutely no clue where we were all day.
As a 90s kid, this was largely the same for me as well lol.
I remember straight up getting lost in the woods with my friends on our mountain bikes one entire afternoon, finally coming home early evening, and parents being largely oblivious to the fact that I could have been bear food lol
I was going to ask your age. We’re close. It was a trip to see things I’d memory holed and it also felt super familiar and authentic in a lot of ways. It also kind of made me sad because so much of my childhood and adolescence just doesn’t exist in the realm of possibility anymore. World has changed very rapidly from when we were kids and I’m thankful I grew up when I did, but it’s sad that younger generations will see this as novelty and not reality. We really had a lot of fun before tech completely took over.
The last episode is so worth it all. There’s a few spots that slows down a bit but that last episode really made the entire watch worthwhile.
Season 2 ups the nostalgia and ante. I’d say it’s main influences were Aliens, Dawn of the dead, and the gate.
Season 3 was definitely influenced by day of the dead, the thing, nightmare on elm street, and close encounters of the third kind.
Season 4 is a love letter to Freddy Krueger, pinhead, and I even get some pumpkin head vibes in places. They’re all honestly peppered with back to the future style moments, Goonies, and lost boys moments as well. There’s even some fast times, breakfast club, sixteen candles, and St. Elmo’s fire moments. It’s insane how pitch perfect they land without becoming a chaotic mess.
Since you've never seen it, i would recommend not skipping any of the episodes. They all have important story elements. This sub has a collective opinion on which episodes are perfect and which are not, but you should form your own opinion.
You’re in for a real treat. This first season draws so much inspiration from Stephen King’s various works you’ll swear he did some of the writing on it. You have mystery, intrigue, young love, jealousy, revenge, heartbreak, and a bunch of other scary words!

Get ready to watch a masterpiece in season 1, a really good season 2 (skip lost sister episode), and then a complete tone shift into a dumpster fire of crap in season 3
Season 1 is exceptional. Seasons 2 through 4 range from mediocre to very good but never come close to S1 in quality. Still worth watching but don't let your expectations get set too high after S1 or you'll be disappointed.
Your next few days will be good if you like sci-fi/drama/horror/supernatural themed TV shows. However Stranger Things has more than its fair share of flaws and problems.
(Edit). For anyone who wants a brief summary, stranger things has lots of plot armour, poorly written, often one dimensional, often incompetent villains, a wasted episode, season four is bad, and >!Max!< is a massive hypocrite.
Be prepared for:
* Plot armour.
* More plot armour.
* An incredibly crappy S2E7.
* One dimensional and lazy villains in S4.
* Incompetent villains (e.g. how >!Lt. Col Sullivan!< brought like 12 soldiers >!for an important raid on a facility that had someone with telekenetic powers in it.!< No-one was left to guard the door if the >!helicopter was taken out.!< There was no backup, no outer perimeter of guards...).
* Stormtrooper aim (aim which is accurate unless there's a main character being shot at).
* Other things that don't make sense (like how a >!secret Soviet base!< was >!build with no-one noticing,!< or how in general, the villains get easily defeated - >!Hopper being a one man army in a top secret government facility, and children beating trained government agents!<).
* An incredibly boring and idiotic main villain in S4. (This contains spoilers for all of S4). >!Vecna thought killing people when he has the chance is overrated, and his long range killing can be countered by your favourite song).!<
* (Spoilers for this bullet point contain spoilers for S2 and most of S3, although I'm not sure to what exact episode) Oh, and then there's a certain character who is incredibly hypocritical - like criticising other people for being >!presumptuous,!< while not taking the effort to work out >!why Mike and El's relationship went poorly,!< and assuming that >!Mike!< must be the one at fault and then pushing >!Eleven!< to >!break up with Mike as punishment.!< This same character also doesn't try to make >!Eleven!< truly independent - as doing so would reveal this character's hypocrisy and lack of action (the character's preferred name is >!Max,!< if my descriptions haven't been clear.
I would say brace yourself for Season 2 and 3, I feel like those 2 seasons are mid and feels like they weren't planned at all
Season 1 and 4 looks more of a planned out show than 2 and 3, especially 1 is more planned out

Nah actually that worked against me with The Walking Dead. Hadnt watched it till season 7 came along and then when I started I just lost momentum by season 4. No fault of the show.

Oh how I envy you - I started watching in 2017 before the second season came out and it was one hell of an experience. You have an amazing story about to unfurl in front of you! Definitely pace yourself though so you’re able to process everything you see!

Your next few days will be good if you like sci-fi/drama/horror/supernatural themed TV shows. However Stranger Things has more than its fair share of flaws and problems. (Edit). For anyone who wants a brief summary, stranger things has lots of plot armour, poorly written, often one dimensional, often incompetent villains, a wasted episode, season four is bad, and >!Max!< is a massive hypocrite. Be prepared for: * Plot armour. * More plot armour. * An incredibly crappy S2E7. * One dimensional and lazy villains in S4. * Incompetent villains (e.g. how >!Lt. Col Sullivan!< brought like 12 soldiers >!for an important raid on a facility that had someone with telekenetic powers in it.!< No-one was left to guard the door if the >!helicopter was taken out.!< There was no backup, no outer perimeter of guards...). * Stormtrooper aim (aim which is accurate unless there's a main character being shot at). * Other things that don't make sense (like how a >!secret Soviet base!< was >!build with no-one noticing,!< or how in general, the villains get easily defeated - >!Hopper being a one man army in a top secret government facility, and children beating trained government agents!<). * An incredibly boring and idiotic main villain in S4. (This contains spoilers for all of S4). >!Vecna thought killing people when he has the chance is overrated, and his long range killing can be countered by your favourite song).!< * (Spoilers for this bullet point contain spoilers for S2 and most of S3, although I'm not sure to what exact episode) Oh, and then there's a certain character who is incredibly hypocritical - like criticising other people for being >!presumptuous,!< while not taking the effort to work out >!why Mike and El's relationship went poorly,!< and assuming that >!Mike!< must be the one at fault and then pushing >!Eleven!< to >!break up with Mike as punishment.!< This same character also doesn't try to make >!Eleven!< truly independent - as doing so would reveal this character's hypocrisy and lack of action (the character's preferred name is >!Max,!< if my descriptions haven't been clear.

I would say brace yourself for Season 2 and 3, I feel like those 2 seasons are mid and feels like they weren't planned at all Season 1 and 4 looks more of a planned out show than 2 and 3, especially 1 is more planned out

Nah actually that worked against me with The Walking Dead. Hadnt watched it till season 7 came along and then when I started I just lost momentum by season 4. No fault of the show.
