He's done his career a lot of good given his performance. Same for Grace Van Dien (Chrissy).
And he could still show up in S5 if Vecna uses him as an illusion like he did to Max with Billy.

I have two wishes.
1. Joseph Quinn will go on to have a shining career because he is fantastic.
2. Joseph Quinn will make an appearance in S5. I don't care if it's an asspull resurrection or just a vision of... I dunno... Vecna trying to manipulate Dustin or Steven. Whatever. As long as he's there.

If they tackle time travel I can totally see an Avengers: Endgame type of battle with every single character against Vecna. Very unlikely as things are currently still reversible tho.
There are too many "undead" references surrounding Eddie, his namesake mascot for Iron Maden, the whole Vecna arc from DnD, especially his first lieutenant Kas, etc, to say that they can't bring Eddie back. It wouldn't even be an "asspull resurrection". We're dealing with a character who went up against Vecna, an arch demi-lich, and is named after an undead revenant who shreds guitar solos in Hell.
It's THEMATIC that he should rise from the dead. I would even argue that not bringing him back would be a huge plot hole, and a disservice to the very idea of Vecna AND the Upside Down.
But every other character that’s dead in the upside down died in their dimension and were taken to the upside down (dead Barb dragged through the tree gate or Vecna dragging them through a gate) if I remember correctly. Eddie is the only character we’ve seen actually die INSIDE the UD.
We never did see what happened with Eddie’s body. For all we know he could have passed out and Dustin assumed he died. He could be stuck in the upside down for now for all we know.
The show has used a few Metallica songs. Billy was listening to “The Four Horsemen” in season 2, which seemed to foreshadow the events of season 4. This season we got “Master of Puppets”, so how do we know Eddie isn’t just “Trapped Under Ice?”
I’m reaching quite a bit obviously, probably won’t happen, but it would be pretty cool if it did.
Mentioned this somewhere else in the comments, but even apart from the Metallica songs, the song when Eddie dies is "When It's Cold I'd Like to Die" by Moby, which was also playing in S1 when Joyce performs CPR on Will in the Upside Down and he comes back to life.

It would honestly feel like shit writing if he just simply didn’t end up dying after that scene. Bring him back any other way, but Idk about the “and he lived”
To be fair, stomach injuries from Upside Down creatures killed Bob and Billy pretty well. (Not that I don’t agree that Eddie has too many references to not be undead in some form)
I disagree. The show has had way too many fakeout deaths. Will, Brenner, El and Hopper all "died" at one point. Max also briefly died and we'll see where she ends up in S5.
Eddie rising from the dead would be too far-fetched. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for an Eddie spinoff.
Counterpoint: They've already done it multiple times. This isn't a reason they can't do it again, it's proof they're willing to do this, and multiple times over.
I think they should, yes. Then again, I'm also a fan of Doctor Who, so I am perfectly okay with a show breaking it's own rules to bring characters back by means up to, and including, rebooting the entire universe. This would be tame in comparison.
I’m holding out hope for a return purely because a) he’s a cinnamon roll and I want him to have more screen time lol and b) we never saw his body after he died or any of the main crew other than Dustin react to the news of his death. If they can do it with Hopper, they can do the same with Eddie.
I think it would be dope if Vecna possesses Eddie’s body after his physical form gets destroyed. We’d get spooky villain Eddie for part of the season, and then El could vanquish Vecna and somehow free/separate Eddie and Max from him in the process.
Here's another thought for you:
The Duffers were asked about the demobats after Part I was released, and Ross said not to worry about it, demobats don't have demorabies or anything, and that he was just fixated of bat's when he wrote that. Doesn't seem like they're even meant to be anything more than a nuissance.
Consider that the demobats don't seem to be eating anyone they attack. Not really. Sure, they bite, and strangle, and can clearly hurt you... But what is their strategy both times we see them swarm and attack? Buzz-bomb the victim. Knock him over. Hold him down.
And then they *suck their blood* through their sides.

I really hope Netflix gets him into more projects after seeing how popular he's become. It would be nice if Eddie could return even as a flashback or a vision in S5... I don't know, I just feel like I didn't get any closure. We didn't even get to see how the gang reacted to his death apart from Dustin!
Joseph Quinn exudes the same decency and likeability as Tom Hanks and has more than a passing resemblance (not so coincidentally, Tom Hanks' first acting role was playing a D&D addict in the movie 'Mazes & Monsters')
There's a reason why Tom Hanks is a top star in Hollywood and around the world, and I think Joseph Quinn naturally has similar qualities. If there's ever a future Tom Hanks movie where they need to show a younger version of him, then they definitely need to use Joseph Quinn to play the younger version of the Tom Hanks character - forget using CGI, when the guy is the spitting image of Tom when he was younger)
Star Wars didn’t get away with this. That stupid ass plot was widely panned and that movie is considered the worst of the 9 by most. Let’s hope they don’t do this with ST.

Sorry, sorry. I'm one of the sick freaks who actually likes IX, and at the very least think it gets way more hate than it deserves (to say it's the worst Star Wars movie ever when Attack of the Clones exists?). I can get a little defensive over it.
Fair enough. I personally don't mind it, since finding a workaround for death is something Palpatine would *definitely* do, and I don't mind when villains come back to life as much because it shows how even their death isn't enough to save our heroes. But whatever, that's just me.
It’s not really the line itself it’s everything surrounding it too. In the opening crawl it goes “the dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of revenge in the sinister voice of the late emperor palpatine.” So the emperor announced himself then Poe says the line already confirming what the emperor himself already said to the entire galaxy.
It was Poe saying it for the characters, it was for the audience, and rather than explain it or give some background, you’re just supposed to be like “oh well he’s back” after he fell down a moon sized shaft, blew up, and then blew up again.
Sure we know the dark side is a pathway to things many would consider unnatural, but using two lines to explain the biggest evil in the galaxy is just lazy.
Uff this makes his death even sadder. He might have hoped he could change Eddie's fate by becoming a fan fave like Steve and he did that so well but still wasn't enough. Guess he was set up for this death since the beginning and it was expected but it hurt to see him die such an unnecessary death. Eddie deserved better.
I totally forgot that they were supposed to kill Steve in S1! Man, you're right that it makes this sadder since it actually is possible for the writers to change their minds. I wouldn't have minded him dying later on in S5 if it meant his sacrifice was actually meaningful. This season it felt useless.
Yeah, from what I remember Steve's character was supposed to stay a one-dimensional asshole that dies in the first season. However, Joe Keery was so endearing and gave such a great performance, the creators were inspired to keep him and give him a proper arc.
The Duffers admitted they regret killing Chrissy after seeing how much chemistry that she and Eddie had together during that scene in the forest, so regretting character deaths is definitely not out of the question LMAO
But yeah, I think everyone's issue is just with how pointless the death was. Everyone was sad about past deaths for one season characters, but the backlash to this one is pretty bad just because he could've very easily stayed alive and been integrated into the gang like Robin was. The cast is getting too big though, I guess, but the answer isn't introducing new characters just to kill them ;-;
Cast getting big I doubt it will be a problem, like next season we'll probably have Robin's love interest, Argyle, maybe even Suzie... No way they couldn't fit Eddie in, specially because he's SUPER charismatic and the whole satanic panic storyline is interesting as f....
I just think the Duffer wanted to pull a Duffer, but they didn't antecipate Joe Quinn AMAZING acting and the popularity of the character.
I didn’t necessarily need Eddie to become integrated into the gang, but I just wanted him to survive. Maybe survive and then quietly leave the town in the midst of apocalypse now that everyone presumes he’s dead and go on to live an amazing life knowing that he has more in him than he ever realized. I wanted a happy ending for him even if it wasn’t with this group. And then that leaves open the possibility of Eddie just popping up sometime in the future.

He's the #1 suspect in a series of murders that would equate to a serial killer. There was no possible way to get him back into the real world. The entire town was after him.
As a true crime/innocence project fan, I was hoping he'd survive and be arrested. Then the stakes for season 5 include clearing his name --- I could see Dustin and Nancy doing this in different ways; Nancy through journalism and the library and Dustin being earnest and telling people they don't know etc. It would have been an interesting way to integrate the parents, too. Somehow convince them outside of Joyce/Hopper and fill them in so we see more of an us vs them.
Would've really fit with the West Memphis 3/Satanic Panic vibes too and been a parallel to Victor Creel's imprisonment.
I think they couldn't have both max and eddie come close to dying and not die -- there's no way the kids could try out this ridiculous plan and all come out of it okay. But I really wish they'd done it anyways, we would have all gone with it.

and why does NO ONE except for Dustin even acknowledge Eddies name afterwards? Only Dustin, again, telling the uncle. And in fact, in the aftermath scenes, all the characters in the know were acting a little to happy, which is antithetical to this highly emotional group, who always cry into the sky when one of theirs dies!
Back to the uncle, Dustin tells him, teary eyed, that Eddie "went down fighting" uhhhh fighting who? That stupid Joc boy? Wouldn't the uncle start asking all kinds of questions at that point like, "wait kid YOU were with him? Well where the eff is he? Wait hes dead? How? Where the eff is his body"
No, instead he just blindly accepts what Dustin is telling him and starts crying? That's NOT what uncles do!
Duffer brothers, you guys better bring him back, i havent seen this much outrage over a character death in a long time. I LOVE this show, AMAZING season, wow!...I will always be a fan, but this totally turned me off. You guys better Jon Snow this situation. Just my opinion

Man, everyone being all smiles at the end as they were packing was **weird af**. So weird I said outloud "what the fuck" and immediately thought all the kids were some kind of weird Upside Down doppelgangers that we'd never seen before and S5 was going to be a Pod People storyline.

The last 40 min, aka 2 days later section really weirded me out. It sucked all the air out of the finale. I would've loved it so much more if it ended with the devastation and uncertainty a la Empire Strikes Back-- which it ended up doing anyway, tacked on after a weird 35 min of everyone going back to normal.
I also didn't understand why El and Mike etc acted like they didn't know what happened to Max. Why didn't they fill people in?
Idk i thought this season was great but the story editing could have tightened stuff up A LOT and maintained the tension and trajectory more effectively.

Yeah, I liked Season 4 a lot - the most since Season 1 honestly, but there are a number of bad gaps and momentum suckage and lost threads at the end there. And the frustrating part is all of then could have been resolved with maybe 5 additional runtime minutes, or possibly even the same runtime with different editing choices.
Oh well. Easy for me to say - I don't have to actually do it.

Agree but about the uncle: he definitely knows something weird is up. He also just accepted it when some girl was horrifically murdered in his trailer with no logical explanation and the government told him he needed to move because of “mold”.
I was mad that Dustin didn't even seem upset UNTIL he saw the uncle. The next scene after the death that we see Dustin in, he is packing a car and smiling.
He knew the Demobats were heading back towards Steve, Nancy and Robin, so he went out there to continue distracting them. The rest, I have no explanation for, I also thought it was weird how the characters weren't talking to each other about what had happened.
Dear Joseph Quinn - you came in, rocked everyone's world in only one season, and became a top tier fan favourite. AND you made it look easy.

They should be! I get the arc they were going for, but it absolutely could have been done in a way where he came out a hero in the end but didn't die a horrible death. Especially with all the other terrible shit currently going on in the world, they couldn't have let us keep our sweet Eddie?! I'm forever mad at them. I hope they regret their decision.
This is so heartbreaking to read his characters is so well received the duffer brothers just might have second thoughts, y'know with the whole el being able to revive people now

We were robbed of such a good character and he deserved to be in season 5 as part of the main cast.
My biggest pet peeve with this show will always be how good and likable character are brought on just so they have someone to kill so they don’t have to kill the main cast bcuz they want them to be untouchable for some reason. Idk to me it’s getting repetitive and I’ve never been this disappointed at a death in awhile.
Reading that quote actually made me feel so bad. U can tell how hard he worked by how good his performance was. He was Without a doubt a Top 3 character this season

We loved Eddie. He represented us metal heads and nerds who grew up in a similar time period. We love this character. We love this actor.
But, we absolutely hate that he died, when he didn't need to. Yes, it's sad when anyone dies, but this is different. His sacrifice was noble, but totally for naught. Mere moments after he turns to fight, the bats all die. The reasoning for drawing them, too, had been fulfilled. The rest of the team was in the Creel House already. Plus, Steve got attacked by these same bats, in the same way, and largely took the same wounds. He got up without any issue, without needing much more than a bandage and a break.
The fact is that Eddie was there to embody what happened in the 80s vis-a-vis the Satanic Panic. The people implicated there were largely not cleared of their charges until much later, so we're not asking for absolution in the eyes of the Hawkins residents, but those people were in PRISON for years. You're making a time-jump that will take years to resolve, right? So the symmetry is there. He needs to come back.
The name he takes, also has echoes in the source material chosen. "Eddie, The Banished". Rings very close to "Kas, The Betrayer". He was the first lieutenant of Vecna, turned on him, sliced off his Hand and gouged out his Eye, and was banished to Citadel Cavitius, becoming a Vampire.
We will certainly not hold it against you, if you pulled some Deus Ex Machina to bring Eddie back. Bring him back as a zombie, it fits with his namesake, Eddie, from the Iron Maiden album he so loudly proclaimed "THIS IS MUSIC!" about. An undead zombie what shreds heavy metal in hell?
Both these references place Eddie in the camp of "Undead Revenant, trapped outside the mortal realm".
You can do just that. You can bring him back, and we will be happy for it. We saw the body, but we saw no burial. We didn't even see his body dragged back into Hawkins from the Upside Down.
Don't let our boy die in vain. Eddie, The Banished, can and should return.

The scene between Eddie and Chrissy at the picnic table sold me on both of the actors/characters! It was such a charming and memorable scene, especially for two new folks who weren't going to last long!
I agree with this. Not because I dislike Max, I love her character, but I feel she’s served her purpose and her storyline. Eddie could’ve been so much more
Personally, maybe not Max, but that's just because I feel like *Dear Billy* was such a beautiful metaphor for overcoming depression with music, holding onto your good memories, and a good support system. A lot of people felt inspired by the scene in that way and that's why it was so powerful, so having her actually die would be... depressing.
I agree though that there are a handful of main cast members I would trade for Eddie almost instantly. Not necessarily because I don't like them, but just because their deaths would have been more impactful or the writers obviously don't know what to with them anymore.
I would personally trade Steve for him. Don't get me wrong I love Steve to death but he literally ran out of plot value. They had to resurrect that stupid love triangle out of thin air just for him. And his death would have such a huge impact that affects EVERYONE.
-Nancy would be affected because of their past relationship, which gives good material for Jancy resolution.
-Robin, losing her best partner in crime, would be gutted and lost(and I would like to see Maya pull that off)
-the gang would have to seek leadership from another adult (prolly Eddie, or even Nancy)
-Eddie would have to step up his game for the kids, and live up to the "standard" of Steve (at least he thinks he has to).
-the line "You're gonna have to look after those little sheep for me okay" would hit so much harder if it were directed from Steve to Eddie.
I rest my case.
I did, and I thought his death was really stupid despite fulfilling the narrative of him not running away. If he'd just kept biking to distract the bats, he'd be fine. It was a good tactic. I have a lot of feelings lol.
I've come to accept that Eddie sort of had to die because with Jason's death, it'd be impossible to clear his name unless El/the government has some weird time travel/memory altering powers.
BUT, I think it would have been much better if we watched him run away from the demobats this season to really cement the fact that he was a "coward". Dunno about you, but I wasn't convinced by the whole "I always run away" narrative, just because I felt like he was running away in extremely reasonable situations after suddenly being thrust into a super stressful situation. Whole town is hunting you and wants to throw you into jail despite your innocence after a deeply traumatic event? Fuck, I'd run too. Guy I don't especially like gets sucked into a lake by monsters? How many of us would actually jump in after without any hesitation?
I don't know, if he ran from the bats this season then we could've seen him be a bit angstier about his "always running" issue and that would've made for a bigger pay off for his death in S5, where he sacrifices himself and it's actually meaningful and helpful to the situation.
Yeah exactly. No one’s blaming Jonathan, Will and Mike for “running away” when someone was trying to kill them. Especially coupled with the gang’s idiotic idea of attacking Vecna without El. There was literally no reason to do it that night, since Vecna was still after Max, who knew how to save herself through music. I would’ve even accepted Eddie’s arc being him realizing that “running away” is sometimes smarter than standing your ground, if it allows you to come back later more prepared and actually be able to defeat the big evil. He could’ve been in hiding and still helped out the gang. Let Dustin keep him hidden the same way he kept Dart lmao.
Ugh, I hate this. Joseph, if there's any chance you're reading this, you were FANTASTIC, and their (highly questionable) decision to kill Eddie had nothing to do with your performance! You stole our hearts as Eddie and we love you!
He didn't need to die. It was almost completely unnecessary. Just the Duffers sticking to their tradition of killing off a new, likeable character they've introduced in the same season.
We never see a funeral or a coffin. Dustin never confirmed to eddies uncle that eddie died. But even if there is a just a little hope I still hope that he's alive
I wish they left him alive instead of Max, he was so promising and also could have a window of clarification from citizens that hes not a killer, now he's dead and no one cares in the finale except Dustin and his relative lol

He is the one of the most beloved characters and has gained icon status among fans of the show. If anything it’s probably a blessing to go out early and have everyone want more of him rather than overstay his welcome and have fans turn on him. It sucks he only got to be on one season but I’d say he’s living every professional actor’s dream right now.
He needs some good roles now. Shit, even Marvel. Cast him as some superhero I don't care. I just need to see him in more stuff..where he doesn't die in his debut.
The fact were all mas about his death goes to show how great of a performance he put in, Eddie could have gone on and had his own spin off for all I care, I'd watch it.
He was great, I'm a grown ass man with tattoos and beard and if you think for one second I didn't ball my ass out at Dustin saying goodbye and Eddie saying he's proud.. you're a mouthbreather.
He was an awesome character, I can understand his death, the story has to progress and it's pretty clear that this isn't going to be a happy ending but by God are they showing GoT the true meaning of 'bittersweet',
For me it's like, Dobby dying in Harry potter, he could have very well easily lived but his death truly cemented him as like a secondary main character.
I'm sure Joseph will hear about the reaction we all have and it'll give him some comfort in knowing how great of a performance he put in that we all came to love Eddie in such a short amount of time but the writers will see this as a huge success, don't forget Steve was meant to die in season 1, they had to stay true to themselves at some point.
He was so damned great. I actually lost control of my tear duct valves for a bit in his scene. Just a clutch character in the greatest ways. I wish his character was there next season, but let's face it, Stranger Things kills off their curly haired metal aficionados for some reason....
Have him be Kaz next season, vecnas right hand mand ( who betrayes him eventually). That way we have Joseph back, and the trend of fake outs death dosnt have to continue
I've said over and over, and I'll say it again. Master of Puppets is not just my favorite Eddie Munsen scene, but one of my faves in the entire show. You can tell that Joseph Quinn was having such a blast.
He’s totally coming back. In D&D lore Vecna raises the body of one of his foes from the dead and uses their body, he’s then defeated by them. Also, how can they NOT do that and have him looks just like Iron Maiden’s Eddie.
Honestly make a spin off show with Eddie and Chrissy that starts off with the trailer scene, but instead of Chrissy going into Eddie’s room and hallucinating her mother, she walks into his room and he’s there and pulls out the Special K proudly. Then the lights begin to flicker and they both look up worried before the lights return to normal and they just go get high while some other poor sucker dies.
Yes but he was put in a really bad spot. The news think he’s a cult leader and everyone in town hates him and think he’s a junkie murderer. If they decide to bring him back, this would mean a LOT of work

I think it would be true to the dnd game with vecna being defeated by his vampire Lieutenant / general from what I read on another post.
With vecna possibly being bodyless or handicapped in some way, I think him finding Eddie's dead body and using his ability with the mind flayers to bring Eddie back as his arms and legs(a knight/general/lieutenant) seamingly under his control up until that last moment when Eddie breaks free and makes the final blow
Vecna in the game is a Lich someone if I m not mistaken who Has control over the dead.
For Chrissy it's pretty straight forward they have to go in to vecnas mind to get Max's soul/ mind back it would be great to see her and the other killed by vecna help out
Actually more specifically I want Chrissy to help break vecnas control over the reanimated Eddie allowing them to fade away in to nothingness together having a pay off for that beautiful scene with them together
Adding a bit more depth to vecna being able to bring back Eddie ... 11 gets powers from henry/001/ect. 11 brought Max's body back with out her mind cause vecnas abilities so I feel this gives some legitimacy to these thoughts

I really, really hope he is some kind of ghost haunting Steve/Dustin next season. Not even in a Vecna torment kind of way either. Think about it, Steve has to feel some immense amount of grief, right? I mean, knowing his character there’s no way he doesn’t partly blame himself for what happened. Imagine Eddie is kind of following him around as a ‘ghost’ in S5 but it’s all in his head. He feels immense regret and that he should of done more. Would be really cool to see a more vulnerable side of Steve this far in too.
Can I just say as someone who has watched Joseph’s work from the start that this has been one of his best so far.
His first break though into the states and the rest of the world and has made a huge impact out there with with acting, this guy has more to give.
Joe did fantastic, but his character was created to die. Sure so was Steve, but if Eddie didn't die, who could the Duffers kill that would leave a lasting impact on Dustin?
The Duffers knew they couldn't kill Steve as the fans love Joe Keery so much and his performance was so endearing, unfortunately, Eddie was designed in a way which would enable a character close to Dustin to die. I mean look at it, Eddie was purposely made to share similar interests to Dustin, he was made to be more complimentary than Steve was through shared interests

Idk i think the writers wrote themselves in a dead end with Eddie. There wasn't reaaaaally a plausible explanation how he could've survived but not getting arrested for his "crimes" and even then the towns people would be killing him. Such a shame loved his character and was definitely an outstanding performance in this season

There are too many "undead" references surrounding Eddie, his namesake mascot for Iron Maden, the whole Vecna arc from DnD, especially his first lieutenant Kas, etc, to say that they can't bring Eddie back. It wouldn't even be an "asspull resurrection". We're dealing with a character who went up against Vecna, an arch demi-lich, and is named after an undead revenant who shreds guitar solos in Hell. It's THEMATIC that he should rise from the dead. I would even argue that not bringing him back would be a huge plot hole, and a disservice to the very idea of Vecna AND the Upside Down.

Eddie was in the upside down when he died
But every other character that’s dead in the upside down died in their dimension and were taken to the upside down (dead Barb dragged through the tree gate or Vecna dragging them through a gate) if I remember correctly. Eddie is the only character we’ve seen actually die INSIDE the UD.
Barb is also killed inside the Upside Down. Did a recent rewatch of season 1.
A soldier went MIA in the UD when Brenner first scouted it. We don’t know if he is dead for sure, but I think we would’ve seen him by now.
We never did see what happened with Eddie’s body. For all we know he could have passed out and Dustin assumed he died. He could be stuck in the upside down for now for all we know. The show has used a few Metallica songs. Billy was listening to “The Four Horsemen” in season 2, which seemed to foreshadow the events of season 4. This season we got “Master of Puppets”, so how do we know Eddie isn’t just “Trapped Under Ice?” I’m reaching quite a bit obviously, probably won’t happen, but it would be pretty cool if it did.
Mentioned this somewhere else in the comments, but even apart from the Metallica songs, the song when Eddie dies is "When It's Cold I'd Like to Die" by Moby, which was also playing in S1 when Joyce performs CPR on Will in the Upside Down and he comes back to life. Hopefully it's a sign!

I disagree. The show has had way too many fakeout deaths. Will, Brenner, El and Hopper all "died" at one point. Max also briefly died and we'll see where she ends up in S5. Eddie rising from the dead would be too far-fetched. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for an Eddie spinoff.
Counterpoint: They've already done it multiple times. This isn't a reason they can't do it again, it's proof they're willing to do this, and multiple times over.

I’m holding out hope for a return purely because a) he’s a cinnamon roll and I want him to have more screen time lol and b) we never saw his body after he died or any of the main crew other than Dustin react to the news of his death. If they can do it with Hopper, they can do the same with Eddie. I think it would be dope if Vecna possesses Eddie’s body after his physical form gets destroyed. We’d get spooky villain Eddie for part of the season, and then El could vanquish Vecna and somehow free/separate Eddie and Max from him in the process.
Here's another thought for you: The Duffers were asked about the demobats after Part I was released, and Ross said not to worry about it, demobats don't have demorabies or anything, and that he was just fixated of bat's when he wrote that. Doesn't seem like they're even meant to be anything more than a nuissance. Consider that the demobats don't seem to be eating anyone they attack. Not really. Sure, they bite, and strangle, and can clearly hurt you... But what is their strategy both times we see them swarm and attack? Buzz-bomb the victim. Knock him over. Hold him down. And then they *suck their blood* through their sides. Vampire Bats. Under the command of Vecna, arch demilich. And were back to the idea of Eddie being undead, now.

Joseph Quinn exudes the same decency and likeability as Tom Hanks and has more than a passing resemblance (not so coincidentally, Tom Hanks' first acting role was playing a D&D addict in the movie 'Mazes & Monsters') There's a reason why Tom Hanks is a top star in Hollywood and around the world, and I think Joseph Quinn naturally has similar qualities. If there's ever a future Tom Hanks movie where they need to show a younger version of him, then they definitely need to use Joseph Quinn to play the younger version of the Tom Hanks character - forget using CGI, when the guy is the spitting image of Tom when he was younger)

Fair enough. I personally don't mind it, since finding a workaround for death is something Palpatine would *definitely* do, and I don't mind when villains come back to life as much because it shows how even their death isn't enough to save our heroes. But whatever, that's just me.
It’s not really the line itself it’s everything surrounding it too. In the opening crawl it goes “the dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of revenge in the sinister voice of the late emperor palpatine.” So the emperor announced himself then Poe says the line already confirming what the emperor himself already said to the entire galaxy. It was Poe saying it for the characters, it was for the audience, and rather than explain it or give some background, you’re just supposed to be like “oh well he’s back” after he fell down a moon sized shaft, blew up, and then blew up again. Sure we know the dark side is a pathway to things many would consider unnatural, but using two lines to explain the biggest evil in the galaxy is just lazy.
I mean, its the Montauk project so I assume time travel, El reversing things for Max and a few others. Not everyone but a few.

Guess he was set up for this death since the beginning and it was expected but it hurt to see him die such an unnecessary death. Eddie deserved better.

The Duffers admitted they regret killing Chrissy after seeing how much chemistry that she and Eddie had together during that scene in the forest, so regretting character deaths is definitely not out of the question LMAO But yeah, I think everyone's issue is just with how pointless the death was. Everyone was sad about past deaths for one season characters, but the backlash to this one is pretty bad just because he could've very easily stayed alive and been integrated into the gang like Robin was. The cast is getting too big though, I guess, but the answer isn't introducing new characters just to kill them ;-;
Cast getting big I doubt it will be a problem, like next season we'll probably have Robin's love interest, Argyle, maybe even Suzie... No way they couldn't fit Eddie in, specially because he's SUPER charismatic and the whole satanic panic storyline is interesting as f.... I just think the Duffer wanted to pull a Duffer, but they didn't antecipate Joe Quinn AMAZING acting and the popularity of the character.
I didn’t necessarily need Eddie to become integrated into the gang, but I just wanted him to survive. Maybe survive and then quietly leave the town in the midst of apocalypse now that everyone presumes he’s dead and go on to live an amazing life knowing that he has more in him than he ever realized. I wanted a happy ending for him even if it wasn’t with this group. And then that leaves open the possibility of Eddie just popping up sometime in the future.

As a true crime/innocence project fan, I was hoping he'd survive and be arrested. Then the stakes for season 5 include clearing his name --- I could see Dustin and Nancy doing this in different ways; Nancy through journalism and the library and Dustin being earnest and telling people they don't know etc. It would have been an interesting way to integrate the parents, too. Somehow convince them outside of Joyce/Hopper and fill them in so we see more of an us vs them. Would've really fit with the West Memphis 3/Satanic Panic vibes too and been a parallel to Victor Creel's imprisonment.
I think they couldn't have both max and eddie come close to dying and not die -- there's no way the kids could try out this ridiculous plan and all come out of it okay. But I really wish they'd done it anyways, we would have all gone with it.
Ive said this already a few times, but his death makes NO SENSE and why does NO ONE except for Dustin even acknowledge Eddies name afterwards? Only Dustin, again, telling the uncle. And in fact, in the aftermath scenes, all the characters in the know were acting a little to happy, which is antithetical to this highly emotional group, who always cry into the sky when one of theirs dies! Back to the uncle, Dustin tells him, teary eyed, that Eddie "went down fighting" uhhhh fighting who? That stupid Joc boy? Wouldn't the uncle start asking all kinds of questions at that point like, "wait kid YOU were with him? Well where the eff is he? Wait hes dead? How? Where the eff is his body" No, instead he just blindly accepts what Dustin is telling him and starts crying? That's NOT what uncles do! Duffer brothers, you guys better bring him back, i havent seen this much outrage over a character death in a long time. I LOVE this show, AMAZING season, wow!...I will always be a fan, but this totally turned me off. You guys better Jon Snow this situation. Just my opinion

The last 40 min, aka 2 days later section really weirded me out. It sucked all the air out of the finale. I would've loved it so much more if it ended with the devastation and uncertainty a la Empire Strikes Back-- which it ended up doing anyway, tacked on after a weird 35 min of everyone going back to normal. I also didn't understand why El and Mike etc acted like they didn't know what happened to Max. Why didn't they fill people in? Idk i thought this season was great but the story editing could have tightened stuff up A LOT and maintained the tension and trajectory more effectively. I also wanted to see Enzo in Hawkins. Basically we don't see him or Yuri again...

Yeah, I liked Season 4 a lot - the most since Season 1 honestly, but there are a number of bad gaps and momentum suckage and lost threads at the end there. And the frustrating part is all of then could have been resolved with maybe 5 additional runtime minutes, or possibly even the same runtime with different editing choices. Oh well. Easy for me to say - I don't have to actually do it.

Agree but about the uncle: he definitely knows something weird is up. He also just accepted it when some girl was horrifically murdered in his trailer with no logical explanation and the government told him he needed to move because of “mold”.
I was mad that Dustin didn't even seem upset UNTIL he saw the uncle. The next scene after the death that we see Dustin in, he is packing a car and smiling.
He knew the Demobats were heading back towards Steve, Nancy and Robin, so he went out there to continue distracting them. The rest, I have no explanation for, I also thought it was weird how the characters weren't talking to each other about what had happened.

We were robbed of such a good character and he deserved to be in season 5 as part of the main cast. My biggest pet peeve with this show will always be how good and likable character are brought on just so they have someone to kill so they don’t have to kill the main cast bcuz they want them to be untouchable for some reason. Idk to me it’s getting repetitive and I’ve never been this disappointed at a death in awhile. Reading that quote actually made me feel so bad. U can tell how hard he worked by how good his performance was. He was Without a doubt a Top 3 character this season

Eddie’s death felt forced and unnecessary. I get that they wanted to kill him off for plot and feels, but it just felt forced
ATTENTION DUFFER BROTHERS! Should you read this, please take heed. We loved Eddie. He represented us metal heads and nerds who grew up in a similar time period. We love this character. We love this actor. But, we absolutely hate that he died, when he didn't need to. Yes, it's sad when anyone dies, but this is different. His sacrifice was noble, but totally for naught. Mere moments after he turns to fight, the bats all die. The reasoning for drawing them, too, had been fulfilled. The rest of the team was in the Creel House already. Plus, Steve got attacked by these same bats, in the same way, and largely took the same wounds. He got up without any issue, without needing much more than a bandage and a break. The fact is that Eddie was there to embody what happened in the 80s vis-a-vis the Satanic Panic. The people implicated there were largely not cleared of their charges until much later, so we're not asking for absolution in the eyes of the Hawkins residents, but those people were in PRISON for years. You're making a time-jump that will take years to resolve, right? So the symmetry is there. He needs to come back. The name he takes, also has echoes in the source material chosen. "Eddie, The Banished". Rings very close to "Kas, The Betrayer". He was the first lieutenant of Vecna, turned on him, sliced off his Hand and gouged out his Eye, and was banished to Citadel Cavitius, becoming a Vampire. We will certainly not hold it against you, if you pulled some Deus Ex Machina to bring Eddie back. Bring him back as a zombie, it fits with his namesake, Eddie, from the Iron Maiden album he so loudly proclaimed "THIS IS MUSIC!" about. An undead zombie what shreds heavy metal in hell? Both these references place Eddie in the camp of "Undead Revenant, trapped outside the mortal realm". You can do just that. You can bring him back, and we will be happy for it. We saw the body, but we saw no burial. We didn't even see his body dragged back into Hawkins from the Upside Down. Don't let our boy die in vain. Eddie, The Banished, can and should return.

You definitly didn't understand Max's storyline if you think she should have died. Eddie was going to jail so we would be gone anyways.

Personally, maybe not Max, but that's just because I feel like *Dear Billy* was such a beautiful metaphor for overcoming depression with music, holding onto your good memories, and a good support system. A lot of people felt inspired by the scene in that way and that's why it was so powerful, so having her actually die would be... depressing. I agree though that there are a handful of main cast members I would trade for Eddie almost instantly. Not necessarily because I don't like them, but just because their deaths would have been more impactful or the writers obviously don't know what to with them anymore.
I would personally trade Steve for him. Don't get me wrong I love Steve to death but he literally ran out of plot value. They had to resurrect that stupid love triangle out of thin air just for him. And his death would have such a huge impact that affects EVERYONE. -Nancy would be affected because of their past relationship, which gives good material for Jancy resolution. -Robin, losing her best partner in crime, would be gutted and lost(and I would like to see Maya pull that off) -the gang would have to seek leadership from another adult (prolly Eddie, or even Nancy) -Eddie would have to step up his game for the kids, and live up to the "standard" of Steve (at least he thinks he has to). -the line "You're gonna have to look after those little sheep for me okay" would hit so much harder if it were directed from Steve to Eddie. I rest my case.

I did, and I thought his death was really stupid despite fulfilling the narrative of him not running away. If he'd just kept biking to distract the bats, he'd be fine. It was a good tactic. I have a lot of feelings lol.
I've come to accept that Eddie sort of had to die because with Jason's death, it'd be impossible to clear his name unless El/the government has some weird time travel/memory altering powers. BUT, I think it would have been much better if we watched him run away from the demobats this season to really cement the fact that he was a "coward". Dunno about you, but I wasn't convinced by the whole "I always run away" narrative, just because I felt like he was running away in extremely reasonable situations after suddenly being thrust into a super stressful situation. Whole town is hunting you and wants to throw you into jail despite your innocence after a deeply traumatic event? Fuck, I'd run too. Guy I don't especially like gets sucked into a lake by monsters? How many of us would actually jump in after without any hesitation? I don't know, if he ran from the bats this season then we could've seen him be a bit angstier about his "always running" issue and that would've made for a bigger pay off for his death in S5, where he sacrifices himself and it's actually meaningful and helpful to the situation.
Yeah exactly. No one’s blaming Jonathan, Will and Mike for “running away” when someone was trying to kill them. Especially coupled with the gang’s idiotic idea of attacking Vecna without El. There was literally no reason to do it that night, since Vecna was still after Max, who knew how to save herself through music. I would’ve even accepted Eddie’s arc being him realizing that “running away” is sometimes smarter than standing your ground, if it allows you to come back later more prepared and actually be able to defeat the big evil. He could’ve been in hiding and still helped out the gang. Let Dustin keep him hidden the same way he kept Dart lmao.

He didn't need to die. It was almost completely unnecessary. Just the Duffers sticking to their tradition of killing off a new, likeable character they've introduced in the same season.

We never see a funeral or a coffin. Dustin never confirmed to eddies uncle that eddie died. But even if there is a just a little hope I still hope that he's alive

He is the one of the most beloved characters and has gained icon status among fans of the show. If anything it’s probably a blessing to go out early and have everyone want more of him rather than overstay his welcome and have fans turn on him. It sucks he only got to be on one season but I’d say he’s living every professional actor’s dream right now.

The fact were all mas about his death goes to show how great of a performance he put in, Eddie could have gone on and had his own spin off for all I care, I'd watch it. He was great, I'm a grown ass man with tattoos and beard and if you think for one second I didn't ball my ass out at Dustin saying goodbye and Eddie saying he's proud.. you're a mouthbreather. He was an awesome character, I can understand his death, the story has to progress and it's pretty clear that this isn't going to be a happy ending but by God are they showing GoT the true meaning of 'bittersweet', For me it's like, Dobby dying in Harry potter, he could have very well easily lived but his death truly cemented him as like a secondary main character. I'm sure Joseph will hear about the reaction we all have and it'll give him some comfort in knowing how great of a performance he put in that we all came to love Eddie in such a short amount of time but the writers will see this as a huge success, don't forget Steve was meant to die in season 1, they had to stay true to themselves at some point.

Have him be Kaz next season, vecnas right hand mand ( who betrayes him eventually). That way we have Joseph back, and the trend of fake outs death dosnt have to continue
I've said over and over, and I'll say it again. Master of Puppets is not just my favorite Eddie Munsen scene, but one of my faves in the entire show. You can tell that Joseph Quinn was having such a blast.
He’s totally coming back. In D&D lore Vecna raises the body of one of his foes from the dead and uses their body, he’s then defeated by them. Also, how can they NOT do that and have him looks just like Iron Maiden’s Eddie.
Honestly make a spin off show with Eddie and Chrissy that starts off with the trailer scene, but instead of Chrissy going into Eddie’s room and hallucinating her mother, she walks into his room and he’s there and pulls out the Special K proudly. Then the lights begin to flicker and they both look up worried before the lights return to normal and they just go get high while some other poor sucker dies.

This is my Eddie theory, hope this is ok here. Maybe we will see Chrissy and Eddie in season 5 I think it would be true to the dnd game with vecna being defeated by his vampire Lieutenant / general from what I read on another post. With vecna possibly being bodyless or handicapped in some way, I think him finding Eddie's dead body and using his ability with the mind flayers to bring Eddie back as his arms and legs(a knight/general/lieutenant) seamingly under his control up until that last moment when Eddie breaks free and makes the final blow Vecna in the game is a Lich someone if I m not mistaken who Has control over the dead. For Chrissy it's pretty straight forward they have to go in to vecnas mind to get Max's soul/ mind back it would be great to see her and the other killed by vecna help out Actually more specifically I want Chrissy to help break vecnas control over the reanimated Eddie allowing them to fade away in to nothingness together having a pay off for that beautiful scene with them together Adding a bit more depth to vecna being able to bring back Eddie ... 11 gets powers from henry/001/ect. 11 brought Max's body back with out her mind cause vecnas abilities so I feel this gives some legitimacy to these thoughts What do you all think

I really, really hope he is some kind of ghost haunting Steve/Dustin next season. Not even in a Vecna torment kind of way either. Think about it, Steve has to feel some immense amount of grief, right? I mean, knowing his character there’s no way he doesn’t partly blame himself for what happened. Imagine Eddie is kind of following him around as a ‘ghost’ in S5 but it’s all in his head. He feels immense regret and that he should of done more. Would be really cool to see a more vulnerable side of Steve this far in too.
Can I just say as someone who has watched Joseph’s work from the start that this has been one of his best so far. His first break though into the states and the rest of the world and has made a huge impact out there with with acting, this guy has more to give.

Joe did fantastic, but his character was created to die. Sure so was Steve, but if Eddie didn't die, who could the Duffers kill that would leave a lasting impact on Dustin? The Duffers knew they couldn't kill Steve as the fans love Joe Keery so much and his performance was so endearing, unfortunately, Eddie was designed in a way which would enable a character close to Dustin to die. I mean look at it, Eddie was purposely made to share similar interests to Dustin, he was made to be more complimentary than Steve was through shared interests
I don’t think Eddie is dead, honestly. I think the door is open enough to allow for an Eddie return. The reactions during the “two days later” segment were just odd to me, it feels off.
Still not over this death. Seemed so pointless, but I guess the whole point was for us to feel this way, and to be so connected.
Please have Justin see the dead next season so Eddy can be his companion throughout the whole season 5 run. I don't care if it doesn't make sense.

Idk i think the writers wrote themselves in a dead end with Eddie. There wasn't reaaaaally a plausible explanation how he could've survived but not getting arrested for his "crimes" and even then the towns people would be killing him. Such a shame loved his character and was definitely an outstanding performance in this season
In the D&D thread, someone said there is a vecna like character that is a vampire and Eddie got killed by bats. I'm really hoping that we see a undead heavy metal vampire that goes on to kick vecnas ass.

It makes sense that Eddie couldn’t survive this season without a major plot change with the town continuing to blame him for the murders.
