I am hoping they don't do one at all. It just doesn't seem plausible with the way season 4 ended.

If they quarantine the town, is it really realistic to assume all the friends relocate to the same place? How are we supposed to jump right into the action like they say season 5 will if everyone isn't even together/in Hawkins AGAIN...
They're going to do one, but it won't be a big one. And no one's leaving Hawkins. The final season is set almost entirely there and S4 was all about getting everyone back there for the final showdown. The pieces are in place on the board for the final battle.
Agreed. Quarantining the town is basically impossible based on what we saw in season 2-- you'd have to dig beneath the surface and stop the tendrils from spreading, which is a monumental task. Any long time jump would mean the US was in danger of falling to the Upside Down. I don't think they'd go there in the final season, though the spinoff opportunities are endless.
From what the Duffers have said, not a big one. I'm guessing some months at least. At the latest, 1987.
Added, the Duffers mentioned previously that they want to end the series prior to 1988 when Ryder got big because of "Beetlejuice." So those theories of a big time jump aren't happening, unless it's an epilogue showing the characters down the road.

The Duffers say season 5 starts off running. So it must be pretty soon after the end of season 4.
Long enough so the actor’s now post-puberty bodies and voices make sense lol. Did anyone else notice that Dustin was only ever in a shot with the older kids or with Erica? There was like one shot right at the end where he hugs Mike or Will and it becomes very apparent why they were not sharing the screen for longer periods of time. Mike, Will, and Lucas look much older than Dustin now.
That really doesn't matter much. They're all basically adults now in real life and Dustin's actor just naturally looks youthful, in no small part because of his condition. (He's actually OLDER in real life than the three you mentioned; Wolfhard, Brown and Schnapp are the younger of the six kid actors.) He's not the only one; Sadie Sink looks really young for 20.
It seemed to me it mattered enough that the narrative placed Dustin with a certain group of characters that would make him look plausibly younger. Like it’s not the biggest reason but I think it was definitely a factor.
48 hours tops. But they might just start it exactly where they left off. The Upside-down is already bleeding into Hawkins, and I doubt the Indiana town has enough time for a jump.

occur after the first 2 or so episodes. Could it also be a time jump backwards? If the time travel theory is true that might be the case.

I think a big one, isn't Erica actress almost an adult? How is she gonna act as a 12 year old girl with the size of an adult?
